I give Cucina 355 5 stars!!! What a great place. Atmosphere is on point as well as the server we had. My first time being there and he was very accommodating. Not to mention that I found a place with GLUTEN FREE ravioli that was absolutely delicious. They had a whole gluten free menu. This BYOB is a perfect spot for any time and and any occasion! I've only ever gotten takeout from here but I was impressed with the food. Delicious penne vodka, vodka chicken parm, chicken Marsala, and rice balls! Great food and would prob be even better if I sat down to eat there but the staff not so much! my one complaint would be about the staff. I felt as if this place was run by highscool age kids who didn't want to work. When I called to place and order an hour before closing I was told that they closed at 10. When I replied with well it's 9 they said ok but you HAVE to be here at 9:30. When I got there then the place looked completely dark and closed down. As if they didn't even want anyone coming inside. I feel as if this place would benefit from a more mature staff who wants to work. Don't say you close at 10 if you stop taking orders before 9.... this place has the potential to be even better but with the attitude of the employees it sadly will not be a 5 star in my book. My mom and I had a birthday dinner here with our family and friends back in September. I called ahead to make a reservation since we had planned to have quite a few people. They gave me a choice of the time and asked how many people were coming. I asked them if I could bring a cake and they agreed. They had a long table set up for us right in front of the window of the dining room. There were plenty of chairs and lots of room. Our server was a woman, I didn't get her name. She was very friendly and enthusiastic and made us feel welcome. A few male servers were helping her out as well. This restaurant is BYOB, which was great for us because we brought our own alcohol and that really saved on the cost of the meal. My guests really enjoyed the food and the staff cut and served the cake we brought. My boyfriend's mom is thinking about having a bridal shower here in the future because the dining room is nice, the staff is great and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. I also have to mention that I ordered a take-out Grandma Pie from here and it was out of this world! So fresh and delicious. A little pricey, but well worth it. read more

Nice decor, friendly staff. HUGE menu...took me a few minutes to narrow down my entree! I ordered the Chicken Parm in Vodka Sauce, choice of salad or pasta. I went with the salad (who can't use a little extra fiber?) which came out in a giant bowl and was probably enough for 3 people. The entree was absolutely delicious--3 large chicken breasts, perfectly fried and crispy sitting underneath one of the best vodka sauces I've ever tried. I was only able to eat 1.5 of the chicken breasts...oh well, LEFTOVERS! Only thing holding me back from that 5th star is that this was my first time here. I think consistency is a big thing. I took my mother here on mothers day. The service was very slow, but they were pretty busy on this holiday so that is understandable... however, the food portions were extremely small.. we ordered salmon entree and cod with one appetizer and paid over $80 (overpriced)..... my mother said the cod was not seasoned at all, it tasted horrible and the broccoli rabe was stale and not cooked properly, she couldn't chew it at all.. my salmon was good but was literally half the size of my palm.... would never waste my money here again. for $4 more you can go to a five star restaurant in hoboken or newark and get amazing service, food, and experience. this was a rip off. don't bother! read more

Excellent food, great atmosphere, excellent music. Friendly and attentive service. We had the buffalo calamari which was outstanding, the veal Marsala which was tender and delicious, mozzarella sticks and a pizza. My son even liked the sauce on his pasta which is unheard of for him as he's used to only mine. All dishes were delicious. My only complaint, if I had to give one, would be the seafood salad was light on the seafood and heavy on the salad. All in all, can't wait to go back. read more

Wow, this place was great! First of all, the decor inside was so lovely, very warm with modern rustic charm. BYO, can't go wrong with that! For appetizers we ordered the calamari and rice balls. The server recommend the buffalo calamari, and I'm so glad she did, it was incredible! The rice balls were so tasty and the vodka sauce was to die for, we cleaned the plate with our bread. For dinner, I had the tortellini de bari, it was so creamy and delicious. My husband had a short rib special and didn't even come up for air. Manager came out in the dinning room to see how everything was, really showed how much he cared. We really really enjoyed this place, we can not wait to go back to this Nutley gem again. I have never had a bad meal at Cucina 355 and, as I am reading the reviews, I wonder if these people are speaking of the same restaurant as there is ANOTHER Cucina in Nutley. Their rice balls are outstanding - their salads are wonderful. I love the honey mustard chicken salad. Every portion is extremely generous. My only suggestion: the pasta with shrimp & broccoli rabe would serve better with jumbo fresh shrimp rather than so many "baby" shrimp. Their "white pizza" is so good that I often order a slice and pick it up after work for dinner. It is really the size of 2 slices. read more

Have been here a few times, my daughter lives in Nutley so it is one of our favorite places. Big plus it is a byo for my homemade wine.

I went in to Cucina about a week ago. We had the rice balls for an appetizer. Best rice balls I've ever had. I'm craving them now just thinking about them. They come in a vodka sauce which is so good. I had the flounder franchise for my dinner. It comes with a huge side salad. Very good. The flounder was so fresh and cooked perfectly. Was excited to try a new spot and liked that it's BYOB. Their food was good. I wouldn't say it was outstanding... It was about average, which is disappointing because there are so many Italian places in Nutley that this one just comes across as "another Italian place in Nutley" and nothing more. The brushetta seemed like they opened a can from the restaurant depot and spooned it on top of bread. The pizza was good, again there are several other better pizza places. Honestly I will not be returning because it is so freaking loud inside! They have two dining rooms. The main room is a long narrow room that is closed off from the other room and something about the acoustics makes it seem like everyone is shouting. It was very closed in. I could barely hear the person sitting next to me. Also our waiter came by to wrap up our food and then we tried for another 15 minutes to flag him down to get the check. Hi - we were clearly done eating so what took so long? I understand they are new and only have 3-4 waiters so I'll give them a break on that this time. Would consider getting take-out from here instead and trying the pasta dishes. read more

The service wasn't so great. In the begining of our meal it was fine. Food was good, but towards the end of our meal at 930 they flickered the lights as a warning to wrap it up, they did it several times, this was very rude. When asked for coffee or dessert we asked for cappuccinos and they said shut the machine off for the night. This is ridiculous. They were cleaning the dining room while we were eating, sweeping specifically which is gross and swept my leg and foot in the process. The waitress didn't come back and say thank you. My family and I live about a minute walk from the restaurant, making Cucina a part of our weekly routine whether we order sandwiches or pizza (Which are amazing by the way) or we are eating a whole meal, I always look forward to a meal at Cucina. When it first opened, the service was slow and the food was not 100% worth it as we had waited a good hour and a half after ordering our food. But now whenever we come we have quick service with great food. Staff is also very friendly. Highly recommend. read more

Cucina has great lunch specials. My go-to is the chicken vodka sandwich, it's to die for. Workers are nice enough, sometimes unenthusiastic when calling in orders, though. Not the best pizza place in Nutley, but definitely a convient, satisfying restaurant. read more

My husband and I have been Nutley residents for a little over a year now. Driving down Franklin Ave we have often said to each other, "We need to try cucina355." Tonight, September 11, 2015, we decided to give the place a shot. Upon entering we stood at the hostess stand, or lack there of, and stared at each other for about 5 min or so. Restaurant staff stared at us as we stared at them as they stared at us. At this point someone should have greeted us.... Nope, let's stare a little bit longer. When the hostess finally realized we were there, she decided to greet us over the party of five that had clearly arrived before us. After finally being seated, we looked over the menu and everything looked pretty good. Very large selection of the usual run of the mill Italian food. Only problem is, you need a waiter to place an order. 10 min go by no waiter. 20 min go by, still no waiter. Finally, the waiter arrives and takes the order from the table sitting next to us who arrived 15 min after we were seated!! At that point we had had enough. We got up and walked out and no one said a word to us. Good luck!!! Will not be returning! And to think we never even had a chance to try the food. read more

I had my bridal Shower here yesterday. Not only was the place extremely nice/ updated/ clean and allowed us to have the private room to ourselves, the food was incredible. Every single person who attended my shower couldn't stop raving about the food. We had rice balls and fried raviolis for our appetizers. Antipasto as our salad. My mom and I had Eric as our waiter, he was great! He was very personable, funny, attentive, and helped me with my indecisiveness when I couldn't decide what to order. We ended up splitting the chicken Romano and the chicken Margherita - both were phenomenal! Would definitely recommend, and we will definitely be back. The food is absolutely amazing. The appetizers are to die for..the sausage, broccoli rabe, and hot pepper appetizer and the rice balls are both amazing! I wanted to like Cucina because I live in Nutley and the room looked attractive. My wife, teenage son, and I walked into the reception area and were stopped in our tracks by the hard stare of the hostess. If her body language, stern face, and demeanor said anything it was this, "what do you want here?". We are not unattractive people, well-groomed and so forth. We are always polite. It was difficult to understand where the negativity was coming from. We were told the main dining room was off limits but that we could eat in the other room instead. Why? In any event we sat down and were greeted by a well-meaning but clearly overwhelmed server. Already it was obvious this was going to be rough. By the way, our server was very polite and had a smile on his face so my remarks are not a reflection on him but rather this poorly run establishment. Couldn't get our beverages for a long time, couldn't get plates until well after the pizza had been delivered, in short it was a service disaster. The food was ok (rice ball app & Margharita pie), and, although the price was a little high we could still have recommended the place had the experience been less anxious and more gracious. read more

Seriously, read all of the 1 star reviews.. They are very accurate! Food was fine, service was a mess... A MESS! Poor lady was nice enough but just had no idea how to do her job. Our whole table was nice and polite despite the issues but as we were leaving she tried to blame our bad service on the fact that it was "restaurant week" (whatever that even means). So apparently during restaurant week, don't expect to receive menus, a plate, napkin, a bottle opener (byob but make sure it's a twist off..), or generally any attention whatsoever.
