Five stars all around! We celebrated Mother's Day at Culinary Dropout. It was a perfect choice! The restaurant is spacious and decorated beautifully. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly. Most importantly - the food was excellent. We ordered the pretzels and provolone fondue for an appetizer. The cheese was hot, the pretzels were warm and we all loved it. Our entrees (fish and chips, mushroom pizza, and ribs with smashed potatoes/gray instead of fries) were all delicious. I was so happy to get the invite to try out this restaurant prior to its official opening. I had seen it coming for a while and I was not disappointed! The food was so good, from the appetizer to the dessert. I've had my share of nachos and these were some of the best I've ever tasted. Everything tasted so fresh and was made very well. The drinks were well balanced and yummy. The service was great. I know this day was somewhat of a test for them, but I think they had it all under control despite that fact. We were in town for one night and had heard about Culinary Dropout. I tried to call to see about reserving a table - the person answering didn't say anything but just picked up and immediately put me on hold, then hung up on me after a few minutes. I called back and was sent to voicemail. We walked in around 5. The restaurant is beautiful and I commented on that to the hostess. We were then seated in an awkward back room. The server in the room was changing/playing music on the TV from You Tube at a high volume. None of the staff are in any kind of uniform indicating they worked there - it's strange and unprofessional. Quite a few employees walked in to the back room not knowing which table got food. It The house salad is good but small (served like a side salad, not like an appetizer) but in a hot bowl. The cacio e pepe was served luke warm and was mediocre. Definitely was expecting a nicer experience and would not recommend. read more

I had an amazing experience for my first time at Culinary Dropout, and considering how this restaurant has only been open for a week they definitely made a lasting impression on me. I came in without a reservation and was told that it would be approximately up to a 40 minute wait and I only had to wait for about 18 minutes, and then, when I was seated my server TJ was very helpful with recommendations when I asked him which he preferred between different menu items that I brought to his attention, which made the experience much more enjoyable. My food came out nice and hot and the atmosphere was definitely a vibe I highly recommend anybody that is looking for great service, great food, and an amazing ambience to check out Culinary Dropout. I'm going to account it to it being a new restaurant and having growing pains. The hosts were very nice however took us to a table that was in the action of being cleaned off so we had to wait for a minute. After we sat, our server passed the table about 3 times as if she was deciding whether or not she wanted to serve us. The run through of the menu was good and it seemed detailed. When the food came out it was lukewarm. The food was good but a bit expensive for the size. Our waitress only came by once to check on us whole we were eating. Another lady came by to check on us and ended up getting us the check and checking us out. The place had good energy with live music and dim lighting. It was a little loud and crowded at the time we went (9:30 pm) but was still nice. Overall it's not bad but I look forward to trying it after a couple of months to see if it's improved. read more

I'm new to charlotte from NY but so far this is one of my fav restaurants the Food, ambiance and service is amazing, I love this place!

We started off with the pretzel bites and cheese fondue dip which was great. My partner got the burger which he said was flavorful. I got the shrimp salad which was also good but the portion was on the small side for the price. Overall it's a great place to get a beer and some upscale bar food. Our waitress was super nice and knowledgeable about the restaurant. I'd recommend going if you're okay with pricier bar food. read more

My daughter and I stopped by after a walk. I have been here before and always loved the food and atmosphere! It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside. I had a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc and my daughter had two delicious mocktails - the Sicilian lemonade and the Juicy Watermelon Spritz. They were both so fresh and tasty! They would have been great with a shot of vodka or tequila too! We noshed on a nice Chef's selection of thinly sliced meats, cheese and snacks! We also had the Wagyu Pigs in a Blanket served with a honey mustard crème fraiche. Everything was so good! Did I mention the delicious crusty grilled bread with olive oil & a balsalmic glaze...it's the best! They had great live music. The service was outstanding! Culinary dropout was a let down for my group. We were promptly sat at our table and our waitress came soon after. She immediately went into great detail - almost too much - about every single appetizer they have and almost forgot to even get our drink order. Wasn't a big deal, we are rather easy to please. We ordered drinks and the pretzels and fondue which are made in house. Pretzels were very unexciting. No flavor in the pretzel and the cheese was not good. It tasted like scrambled eggs with cheese???? I don't know what that was about but not good. We were starving so ate all of the pretzels but left the cheese to the side. After being halfway through the appetizers our drinks finally arrive. Good drinks, nothing negative here besides the amount of time it took for them to come. We also had to ask for waters 2 separate times before we finally got some. On to the mains - our table got the duck and shrimp fried rice, the ribs, and the cacio e Pepe with chicken. My friend loved his fried rice and said it was very flavorful. My boyfriend said the ribs had very little meat, and no flavor. The house made barbecue sauce was just not great. Then onto the cacio e Pepe... I have had cacio e Pepe at many establishments. I have never been this disappointed in a pasta. The noodles were almost in a liquid which was weird but would have been able to look past that if the flavor was good. But there was no flavor. The chicken. This was the worst part. The chicken was the equivalent of throwing chicken in a pot of boiling water, shredding it, and throwing it in the pasta. There was not one seasoning on it. I ate a very minimal amount and was just over the experience. Overall, I was really excited to go to Culinary Dropout after reading the menu but I was just disappointed. read more

Our server was great, I don't recall his name, young guy very attentive and ready to help out. The front of the house was a bit jammed with 4 to 5 hostesses not really doing much, they could have helped run food I thought. We ordered the popcorn shrimp as an app, my dining partner thought it was pretty good but for me, it was fairly greasy and didn't have any unique flavor but not bad--give it a 6 out of 10. I had the meatloaf, green beans, and mash potatoes; potatoes were really good, green beans fresh, and the meatloaf was smothered in a ketchup type sauce- give it a 7 out 10. It was an amazing experience! From the delectable steak frites (I'd recommend a sprinkle of parmesan on the fries), to the flavorful wings and strong, tasty drinks, every bite and sip was a delight. We had the pepperoni and sausage detroit style pizza and it was definitely my favorite out of our whole order. It has a crunchy parmesan crust which we loved. Culinary Dropout is a must try! We were able to score an 8 person reservation on opening weekend. We were anticipating slower service or food since it just opened, but our experience was phenomenal! We asked if they could accommodate an extra couple at our table and they were quick to make it work! Our server was Khad, who was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and overall wonderful. The atmosphere was beautiful, live music was great, and the food and cocktails were delicious. All of the men in our group were excited to see what beer they got from the "paper bag special."
