I was so excited to try CURE based on the many positive reviews I had read. And the menu looked delicious. PROs: Food If I were writing a review based on food taste alone, it would certainly receive 5 stars. The food is top notch. I ordered the pan roasted duck breast which came with a "black forbidden rice-mushroom risotto, wilted baby spinach, white wine and a balsamic beurre blanc". Out of this world. The duck was tender, and the creamy risotto was the perfect combination ---I happen to be obsessed with mushrooms. My husband ordered the Crispy Skinned Organic Salmon with a "coconut milk couscous, sautéed spiralized zucchini & summer squash with red onion, and a saffron beurre blanc". He's not a huge fan of couscous in general, but he adored the salmon, which he said was cooked sublimely. Atmosphere We sat al fresco on the back patio. Though a bit odd, we sat at a small two top right in the middle of an entire perimeter of tables. We seemed to be the center of attention (which normally I wouldn't mind and wished had been the case as you'll read below). There was a nice breeze from perfectly perched fans. The appropriately distanced tables allowed for a soft buzz in the dining atmosphere. CONS: Service We were seated at our table and our (a bit frazzled) host told us he'd be right back with water. He was not "back" with water until after the waitress had already served us our libations. Our waitress dropped our first (and only) drinks off to us, and then we unfortunately didn't see her again until she asked if we wanted dessert. I was grateful that the water boy returned to top off the water, but regrettably, no one else checked on us during that time while my wine glass sat empty for 30+ minutes. I know a lot of wait staff has been out of work for a while and perhaps it was CUREs idea to help staff earn money by giving them more tables. But that didn't work out to give us an optimal dining experience. It appeared as though our waitress had at least 8 tables that she was responsible for. It felt like since we were only a party of 2, we weren't going to get as much attention since our bill (thus tip) wouldn't be as high. Regardless of the amount of attention we weren't paid, we kept in mind a busy Saturday night and the pandemic and tipped 20%, deserved or not. We 4 had dinner there on October 12, 2022. Maybe it was the new menu, as the server explained, but we had a lot of disappointing dishes including the short ribs and the very weak and herbaceous French Onion soup. In contrast, my duck was cooked to perfection - succulent and tasty - and the lobster bisque and pumpkin soup were both good. The cocktails (Gin-cilla and something else) were mediocre. The whole experience was spoiled by the location of our table, in a corner of the main room where the bar is. Noisy, bustling, crowded and just not relaxing. We had requested an outside table, so maybe if they had complied, we would have been in their patio which certainly looked a lot nicer. The service was fine if you can deal with an overexcited drama queen. I don't know where Cure's reputation comes from but maybe the new menu is just more than they can handle. read more

Such a nice change from all the seafood/lobster we have been eating all week. We had the short ribs and duck breast entree and both were delicious!! Short ribs were super tender, flavorful and just cooked well. The potato and broccolini it came with was subpar. The duck breast was also delicious, cooked well, tender and tasty. The wild mushroom cheesy risotto it came on was also very good. The spinach was meh. Seems like they were subpar with the veggie sides that it came with. Also had "Cure" one of their cocktails which they noted as their version of the Manhattan which was nice and strong. All their cocktails seems like they would have all been yummy. Friendly staff. We are visiting Portsmouth and selected Cure because of its high ranking both on Yelp and Trip Advisor. Needless to say, the reviews were right on target. Located in the old section near the Portsmouth waterfront, Cure is located in a building with brick lined walls, it has a bar when you enter, and an area for outdoor seating. We received a warm greeting when we entered. Cure has a nice selection of craft cocktails and wine by the glass. I tried the New Fashioned, their take on an Old Fashioned, made with premium bourbon and muddled fruit. It was very tasty. For appetizers we had the Crab Salad served on fried sweet plantain. The salad has a mild kick and was offset perfectly by the plantain. There were 3 pieces which was ample. We also had the Chicken Liver Mouse. it was outstanding, creamy, and served with thin toast wafers. For entrees we chose the Rack of Lamb and the Duck Breast. The Rack of Lamb was delicious, served with smashed white beans, and green beans and asparagus with crumbled feta cheese. The Duck breast was served with a rissotto of wild rice and mushrooms, and spinach. The duck is probably the best duck we have ever tasted in 50 years of dining out. For dessert we shared the Hot Honey Creme Brulee. it was very good. We highly recommend Cure to anyone visiting Portsmouth. read more

I went in December and never got to writing a review but was thinking about the cure and going back so.. Got to Portsmouth to walk around and just called when they opened and they were able to save us a seat at the bar. It was a great atmosphere. I loved the options on the menu and everything was SO GOOD. I kind of loved the experience of sitting at the bar because of the dividers set up for covid and the drinks are great as well. I wish i got more pictures of my meals but we truly just ate it up immediately. We got sweet potato poutine, the cornbread (cooked perfect), squash carbonara with chicken, and short rib. I just loved the food and have been waiting to get a chance to go back since I live in Boston. So if you're indecisive like me just go here for a nice dinner experience. It's cute inside and will have the drinks and food you want. Make a day out of it walk around and just GO. read more

Our waitress Katie was super friendly and personable, and she let us take our time ordering without ever making us feel pressured. This was our fourth visit and maybe they had a bad day. We had poached pears and arugula with blue cheese for salad. I would have preferred the iceberg wedge with blue cheese but the pears were ok. It is a change they make in the Fall. My wife had crab cakes for an entree and she was pleased with them. I had sautéed salmon with butternut squash. Pretty good but it came with sautéed gnocchi which were brutal. Dry, overcooked, no real taste. Service was very good as usual. We had dinner here on a Saturday evening while visiting Portsmouth. The restaurant is quite small, but cozy. I heard from the locals that Chef Julie of this restaurant was on Chopped so we were eager to dine here. I also think she sat us but not sure if it was her or not. We were so hungry since we hadn't eaten anything that we couldn't wait to order. Service was phenomenal! For starters we ordered the Cornbread with butter and honey (Amazing), Wedge Salad (Good), and Onion Soup (Amazing). And, for dinner entrees I had their Pan Roasted Duck Breast. It was really tender, and flavorful and filling too. My husband had their Grilled Pork Chop also very good. We definitely took leftovers home since we were so full. We had such a great time that on my way out I told both the owner and kitchen staff how excellent everything was. I know we will definitley be back in the summer months since they have an awesome outdoor patio too. It was voted the best by New Hampshire Magazine! read more

Honey cornbread is heavenly (even could be substituted for dessert) and this compliment is coming from a non-cornbread diner. The bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, melted mozzarella, baguette and balsamic is large you could share with 2-4 people and is absolutely palate pleasing. Green salad was fresh. Not memorable but tasty. Stuffed zucchini with risotto was decadent, creamy and cooked well. Ee flavorful. Muscles again, large enough to share with 2-4 people, bread was delicious, north was a bit heavy on alcohol but overall cooked nicely. Chicken statler was tasty, well cooked. What a great meal! Wonderful place for a meal! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Cure. Our server, Kate Smith(yep, that's right) was super attentive to our needs and questions. We had cocktails of cranberry margaritas and "fly tais" that we delicious and very generous with the alcohol. Our wedge salads were delicious and our main courses - generous and delicious. Found this little gem today & are SO thankful we did! Walked in around 5:45 & were seated right away (although reservations are encouraged, which we hadn't known). Hostess was very pleasant & we were seated near the bustling kitchen. The restaurant is located in an older building that has really beautiful dark wood decor that lends to a cozy atmosphere. We proceeded to split three dishes that were exceptionally palate-pleasing. The bacon-wrapped brussel sprouts paired with seasoned polenta fries were amazing - the sprouts were firm, non-bitter & the mild flavor wasn't masked in bacon grease. Next up was a mouth-watering perfectly cooked cider-glazed pork chop with a cinnamon apple cornbread stuffing & broccolini. My only complaint? That we spilt the entree & I had to share! We topped our meal off with a smooth & creamy seasonal pumpkin spice creme brûlée. How about 3.5 So here's the deal, the apps didn't wow me but the flavor profile of my duck entree was absolutely divine. The problem? It was definitely closer to rare than a requested medium rare duck breast. I adored the mushroom risotto, the tastiest I've ever had, and I eat lots of it regularly. I wanted to inhale the whole plate, but I should have sent it back to have it cooked properly, but I'm not that kind. The French onion soup also so so delicious. I don't typically order soups cause I'm finicky, but this was one of those fall days that soup really was necessary. The duck drummettes I don't quite understand why buffalo sauce and blue cheese. I find duck to be a prized cut of meat... and it could have been better. And the crab cakes just didn't even have texture, and drowned in sauce. I love the atmosphere, I love how quaint it is. While my duck was a fantastic portion the lamb porterhouse was a single, maybe 2.5 ounce piece of lamb with a lot of farro and 2 small carrots. read more

We came here for dinner on my birthday on a Saturday night. The restaurant has a strict policy about only holding your reservation for 15 minutes before giving your table away. Our babysitter was a half hour late and we still had a 1 hour and 15 minute drive to Portsmouth. When I called the restaurant, they were not accommodating or understanding at all. I begged them to hold our table for a few more minutes, to which they said they hoped we would arrive within the 15 minute requirement. I understand they need to abide by policies, but apparently, they are beyond compassion. To add insult, after we barely made it there on time with 2 minutes to spare, there were at least 5 empty tables, with no one waiting for one. Dinner and service were both below average, which is where they earned 2 stars. Our orders were taken after 20 minutes, and it took over an hour to receive our meals. Naturally, the pittance of a "bread basket" that they give you, Pepperidge Farm crackers with soft cheese spread (like the Common Man but less tasty), which I couldn't eat anyway being pregnant (as well as starving), did very little to hold you over. For our first courses, we ordered lobster bisque and beet and grilled watermelon salad. These were the highlights of the meal. The lobster bisque was filled with fresh lobster meat, which you would expect for a $16 bowl of soup. The salad was decent, though not sure that the watermelon had any grilled flavor. For dinner, the real disappointment was the chicken stuffed with fontina cheese, spinach, and prosciutto. It sounds delicious, but was served so dry that the meat was difficult to swallow. The white bean puree underneath was uninspiring and lacked flavor. The few cherry tomatoes werent roasted, just raw, and didn't make sense with the dish. Then there was sauteed spinach, difficult to screw up, but I bit into a large peppercorn! At least use a decent peppermill. My husband's rack of lamb at least was cooked medium but was unevenly seasoned. One piece was delicious but the other two had no seasoning or flavor at all. Sad to say the polenta underneath was the star of his meal. We were there from 7:30 -9:30 just to get our appetizers and entrees. Our waitress at least removed the chicken that I'd left mostly uneaten off the bill but seemed rather rushed and unconcerned with our experience. Wow. Just wow. Such an amazing place for lunch or dinner. The ambiance is dark and stormy at night. The restaurant was closing at 9 pm but we sat around 8:35 and they were very acoomdating and nice. The host was absolutely adorable. He was super friendly and gave a warm welcome. The drink menu was extensive. I got a pineapple and coconut rum drink and it was delicious. I ordered the Scallops and Bacon with Sauerkraut on a bed of Arugula. The scallops were tender and so flavorful. The bacon was crispy. The Sauerkraut added a nice tangy flavor to offset the richness. I also tried the Mushroom Forestiere. Nice soft mushrooms and tomato over crostini. A little hard to eat but good taste. My friend had the Duck Breast with Mushroom Risotto, and the duck was sooooo tender. Beautifully charred along the edges. Then to end the night we shared the Chai Creme Brulee. Wonderful floral Chai flavors. Perfectly crispy on top and pudding on the inside. Worth coming here even if there's a wait!! read more

My first date was at this place a few years ago and I have such a fond memory of it, the service and the food was fabulous and the drinks *chef kiss* love! I remember I had the most delicious crab cake at the time, I don't remember what exactly was in the dish but it was fluffy and it melted into your mouth and it was cold out so inside the ambiance is very warm and welcoming! Definitely recommend if you like a bit bigger sized meals and a nice warm ambiance and the servers were excellent, they attended to our needs and gave us the most pleasant experience and even now I still find the cure such a great place to eat even though it's a bit pricy! read more

Went last night for my partners birthday dinner. Our server was fantastic- she was very polite, attentive and knowledgeable about menu items. She checked in very often. We started with the artichoke dip as an app, and it was delicious! So cheesy and loved the truffle flavor. My partner got the steak and I got the short rib. Extremely impressed with the food, his steak was probably a pound and cooked perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised when we got the bill, less than I was expecting for the portions and quality so I think the prices are very modest. The only downfall was the noise, it was so extremely loud we found ourselves in silence many times because it was too loud to hear each-other talk at all. Other tables were literally shouting over each other just to be able to have a conversation. I understand that it's a tiny place so maybe next time we will try sitting outside for a more relaxed setting without all the noise. Would definitely return. read more
