Came in here to grab leather jackets and look at helmets. They have a big selection on jackets and have all types of gear from helmets to padded jeans and gloves BUT their female selection is a little deficient. Their helmets are over priced compared to other locations. Their jackets are also in the higher arena in pricing. I think I walked in during a closeout and Labor Day sales so the pricing was a bit better for me but still higher than most. The staff here is hit and miss some staff are nicer than others. By far Randy stood out the most. He answered a lot of questions and was very knowledgeable. He was very helpful in showing different options and explaining pros and cons of each. I'm new to riding and I've now visited Cycle Gear on four different occasions to pick up new gear. Ever single time I've been blown away by the level of service and quality throughout the store. Every sales person I've encountered is extremely knowledgeable and helpful in answering all of my questions. So I was pretty intimated and overwhelmed when I first entered, and had no idea what I was looking for , other than something to protect my head when riding my scooter. I REALLY like the fact that I was not immediately attacked with "hi, how can I help you!?" I wanted to get a lay of the land first. As I browsed I was thinking "$200? $300!? Gosh" but then I saw a few that was $60-$80, much better! I didn't see the size I needed so o finally approached an associate and he was SO HELPFUL! he looked up the item for me then paused and said before we do that, we have the same helmet in a newer version that is on sale for the same price, whhattt. I've become a regular customer over the years and Cycle Gear has become my go-to destination for motorcycle accessories. I'd like to add that the Scorpion Evo Plus riding jeans are the most comfortable riding pants I've ever owned. They fit right, the lining is softer and less grabby than denim, they don't look like pajamas, and full 3 layer kevlar from the waist to below the knees is far superior to sewn-in patches as denim that tears in the event of a spill won't keep the patches in their protective locations. Some people have said they are warm, but I've found them barely warmer than jeans, even in 100 plus temps. read more

I never write reviews but I felt compelled to after visiting Cycle Gear on Kearny Mesa Road today. This was my first time in a Cycle Gear, despite riding for more than a decade and buying a few thousand dollars worth of gear over that time. I've always stuck to online shops for motorcycle gear and had heard a few negative things about Cycle Gear with regards to price and service. This Cycle Gear proved any negative things I'd heard completely wrong. I walked in and the staff immediately greeted me in a genuinely friendly way and asked if I needed help. I knew what I was looking for so I declined their help and went to try on the gloves I wanted. The store was well-organized and it was easy to find what I wanted. So I tried some gloves on, found the pair I thought I wanted, and walked around the store with them on for a while to give them a thorough try. One of the staff members asked again if I needed any help and we struck up a brief and pleasant conversation where he mentioned the benefits of the particular glove I had. He was clearly knowledgable about the product but made no attempt to push me in one direction or the other as far as purchasing. It was a pleasant change from the average store where I find the staff usually is somewhat clueless about their products. I meandered around looking at things I don't need and tried to convince myself not to buy anything else. After a while, I decided I liked the gloves and went up to the register. The cashier was very friendly and took my information since I was a first time customer. Then she asked if I was eligible for any discounts such as being in the military. I told her yes and showed her my ID and she ran the discount. This was such a pleasant experience compared to many cashiers I've run into who act like you've just asked them to do the impossible when you show them you're eligible for a discount. Another cashier who wasn't currently with a customer quickly removed the security devices from the gloves without me even noticing until she placed them back in front of me. I had a short conversation with the cashiers and then left with my new gloves. Like I said, it takes a lot to impress me and much, much more to make me want to write a review. This Cycle Gear made this such a pleasant experience that I don't think I'll ever order gear online anymore unless I really have to. Bottom line: I highly, highly recommend this place and appreciate the effort that the staff at Cycle Gear puts in to making shopping there a pleasant experience. read more

This store is AWESOME! These guys are all great in every area. My wife bought me a dual intercom system for our helmets and I went in with questions on the install. Instead of helping me he took the helmets and installed them for me while I grabbed a sandwich next door. No charge. Every time I need something these guys go out of their way to always help, always in a courteous and professional manner. Besides the prices being great, the product selection huge and the service beyond expectation I can't think of how they could be any better. I bought a leather riding jacket made by Bilt, two years ago. Recently, the pocket zipper on the right got stuck and wouldn't allow me to access my keys at the end of my work day. I sliced the interior of the pocket open and got my keys, although the pocket was still no bueno. I later found the tag in my jacket saying that Bilt guaranteed the jacket for 5 years. I took jacket to Cycle Gear, San Diego and spoke to Randy. He looked my original purchase up and said I had a store credit for what I had originally bought my jacket for (they no longer make it). Today however I needed to get pricing for brake pads for my gixxer and thought I'd call ahead to make sure they had the parts... 8 minutes on hold may not seem like a long time but when you're waiting on the phone... it's an eternity, and twice I called and twice i was put on hold for parts.. i called fun bike center even though I don't like that store but I was given a quote and told the parts are in stock.. so I'll be buying my brakes at fun bike center instead. read more

I bought a lot of my first pieces of gear here and the staff was right there to help me decide/educate me on proper fitting, etc. I checked prices at the store vs online and you really can't beat a lot of what they have to offer. The discount rack, though a few seasons old, offer great prices for quality gear. I got a great Dainese jacket (Model: 1533659 G. Frazer Pelle size 52 black/black) for nearly $125 lower than MSRP! I will be back for sure. The return policy makes any purchase you are unsure about easy to pull the trigger on, given the grace period they give you to try the gear out. ---------------------------------- I've been back several times and am always pleased with what I purchase. Finally upgraded to a Shoei RF-1200 helmet, and the guys over there helped me a lot with advise, fitting, and overall knowledge transfer. Helmet return policy is nice too, 7 days to trade in if you don't like. Really nice in helping with a $550+ purchase. Visor was trade-in-able for a month after purchase... I don't like their prices. Let's get that outta've the way. However, every time I have been there, their staff have been knowledgeable and eager to help. That goes a long way in my book, especially when you are talking about riding. In terms of riding, comfort and protection come hand in hand, and having a helpful and knowledgeable staff keeps you that much further from death on a motorcycle. Customer service seems small in terms of dresses or coats, but when you are talking about your riding armor or bike maintenance, its a whole new story. I called and asked if I could get a tire mounted and balanced. The person on the phone said yes of course and that it would cost $15. I showed up and walked in without the tire in order to ask if I should bring it in or pull around the back. They said bring it in and walk it to the back. The place is the size of Target. So I went back to the car and got the new tire and my old rim and tire and walked it all the back of the store. Once there the guy looks at me and says "oh, we can't do tires, the machine is down, check back in a couple days.." Yep, one star. read more

My wife and I went to buy the Scalarider G9x today and after walking through the whole store, we found them in a locked glass case. We stood there waiting for someone to help us. No one acknowledged us, but kept working on fixing someone's helmet. I walked to the checkout counter and said that I would like to buy the Scalarider G9x and the guy looked at me like I had spoken in tongues. My wife repeated (slower) what I had said, and then he redirected us back to the place we had been standing at. Super friendly staff even when I arrive within 30 minutes of closing (I get off work at 7pm), great return policy and they will price match their own website, that is at times cheaper for certain things. They are military friendly as well. Considering that probably 30-40% of their customers ride in, they need cubbies to store helmets like other stores have. That would be my only suggestion. Oh that and I cringe every time I hear someone say you NEED a SNELL helmet to run track-days. It's simply not true. Yes SNELL helmet are typically safer, but just point out that fact and let the customer decide. Other than that great job! read more

The west marine of motorcycles... Big store, Good selection, high prices. Most items are msrp and not a penny less. For gear it's good to shop here and buy online you can literally save probably 20% that way unless you're in a rush. I also can't justify ordering parts from here it takes way longer and costs more than just ordering the parts yourself. So if it's not worth ordering parts or gear from here what's the point of coming? I guess if your in a rush or money is no object to you stop on in. Parking is also a nightmare, easily one of the worst parking lots in all of san diego. read more

I bought leather pants, traded them in two weeks later on a full leather suit and then traded that in a few weeks later on a better-fitting suit. No questions asked. After being helped I stepped away and came back and heard her bad mouthing me from the corner. Then she knew I heard and came the register to see if I would complain to the manager. Bought a XL helmet and notice after a few days that it was a size too big, went back, even though their policy on helmet exchanges is 7 days, and got a L size hemet, no problem. Then purchased a black/white Sedici leather jacket which I liked but then saw a all black one that I liked even better and got that exchanged too!!!
