This is one of the largest cycle gears I've been to with quite the selection. They also have used bikes for sale. We didn't buy anything......I could have.... But I shouldn't...

    Motorcycle

Scoured local resources for summer road riding pants and came up short. Even after asking a rep at Cycle Gear who said they don't really carry summer gear. I said OK and perused the merch and lo and behold found Bilt Blaze mesh pants. I asked another about hip armor and he was able to show me exactly where it was. Fast forward to checkout. I'm not a huge 'ask for mil discount' b/c so few places offer it anymore. I was more than shocked to find they offer a 20% discount for those of us who gave Uncle Sam a blank check payable with our life. AND the young man thanked me for my service, which I replied with an emphatic "You were worth it." Cycle Gear has a customer for life. Thank you for your generosity.

Every time I go in there, they don't have any of my tire sizes in stock, when I find a comparable brand with my size, I call in the store to ask them about ordering them, and either their catalogs don't have that same size, or they just can't be bothered to look in their books. The tires will be full price, and if I ever walk in there with my rims, or looking for tires, they tell me that I have to wait till the next day for service, and I have to leave my stuff with them, so I went ahead, and bought tires online, the correct size for my bike, and brought them to that store to install on expensive alloy rims that were in brand new condition. I stood there, and watched the guy who was acting like Mr. Motorcycle put my rim in the tire changing machine, I don't know how he did it, but all up and down the side of my rim was deeply scratched like he was holding sandpaper in his hand while there was supposed to be nothing at all touching those areas, then I watched him bring the head of the tire changing machine down to the tire, and rim, put it underneath the tire on the outside of the rim, then he manually put in the bead of the tire in on the other side of the rim, when he turned that, it gripped up on the bead, and instantly ripped the bead out instantly tore through the side wall, destroyed my brand new $200 tire, left deep gouges, and scratches all over my brand new $1000 wheel. His response was yeah, it'll happen, opps, I'm sorry. It took me days to reach the store manager, and Cycle Gear employees were fighting with me over the phone every time I called. Apparently nobody answers the corporate office phone number that's listed online, and if you look online, they only scratch people's rims. Buyer beware, tires sit on their shelves until they're old, handled, oxidized with age, and if I spent over $200 on a brand new tire, I would not want my tire to be handled, and oxidized with age

UPDATE. Love this store. Every visit in has been pleasant with very knowledgeable staff. Always so helpful! Love people who have the same passion for riding and informative about gear that suits your safety and your style. In continuation of my first review... have been back on two wheels but at very light riding. VERY VERY light. That freedom feel is so hard to take away even when it can take you away (permanently). I am 100% crazy to get back on and I clearly know that. This time I am rocking a full face (not half helmet), upgraded to top quality face visor (no more sun glasses), and wearing gloves at all times regardless how hot is is (no more bare hands). If you read my first review this is just a continuation! We can thank modern medicine and expensive medical procedures to look "normal" again. And we protect as best we can this second chance at life with GOOD SAFETY GEAR. My ARAI helmet had to be ordered and shipped to store. I tried on a similar style helmet to check the sizing before placing the order. Just a note, styles aren't always universal. I got the Defiant-X style which fits smaller and narrow face and heads and spent a pretty penny (~$900). I'm bummed that Arai would discontinue the Defiant-X style one. Now I have a classic style you can't get anymore. I upgraded my mirrored face shield to VAS-V Max Vision (blueish/green) for an additional (~$125). Looking outward it looks purplish and polarized. Looking in word you can't see anything. No need for sunglasses! I get a lot of looksy-lous. A lot of other riders give me kudos. Even random strangers. My helmet does pop - very me! My style is my style.

    My new helmet, thanks Ryan!!!!

Cycle Gear is THE BEST. I come here all the time. I have gotten all of my gear here. Except for my KTM gear because cycle gear doesn't have any KTM gear bc of contracting or something. I got My shoei helmet, sena, my lady adv tourer boots, my tcx shoes, both of my leggings, and now my revit pants! I love that I can buy online and try in store. They are super great about returns. Shout out Ben, the manager who ALWAYS helps me out and goes the extra mile for me because it is so difficult finding riding pants as a curvy woman. Ben is THE BEST. And jeff - who is no longer at that location will be missed. Also Ryan is freakin awesome and has helped me with my helmet and shoes and set up my sena for me perfectly. Miguel is freakin cool too- These people Rock and the products are amazing. Bike night was cool too! I'll be back to bug these guys some more soon!

Had the best experience here when getting gloves. I was looking for something sturdy to start my safety riding class last month. I tried a couple alpine stars for both men and women, and surprisingly I fit better in the men's gauntlet because the women's had longer fingers. Rico helped me find and order the perfect gauntlets. If you ever come here ask for Rico, he's real nice and good at explaining stuff. I was also looking for a helmet back then and Rico helped me learn I was a medium size. I was conflicted if I wanted the sedici strada navy blue or the arai corsair x in silver, but Kevin explained how beneficial arai helmets are in the long run due to hearing protection and how that helps riders focus more on the road. I was recommended ear plugs too. I feel lucky for the help I received and because I know I got great gear, I will be back for more soon!

    Rear view mirrors

I ordered some stainless rear view mirrors. Good price and quality. At first it said they would be delivered Tue and later changed to Fri. They wound up arriving Thur. Though ordered online from Cycle Gear they came from COMOTO, a huge after market retailer for Cycle Gear, J&P Cycles and RevZilla.

Randy is the worst mechanic I have dealt with in my life and extremely unprofessional (And I think…read morehe is the owner). I took my Big Dog motorcycle in last year to have carb work done and an oil leak fixed. He did the carburetor but when I went to pick up the bike I noticed an oil puddle under it. When I asked about the oil leak he said "its probably a primary cover bolt that went too far through and is leaking in the back, just put some thing in there to plug it up". I told him "no, i brought it in for you to fix the oil leak. can you please take it back and fix it?" After fixing the oil leak my bike had electrical issues and wouldnt start. Unfortunately I had to have him fix that too. 3 Jobs done, zero calls upon completion. I had to call him sporadically to get a condescending "were still workin on it" then when its ready and call I get a "its been ready for almost a week now" resulting in my bike being at the shop for over a month. When I finally got the bike back there were over 10 new scratches on my tailpipes, engine, and forks. Randy denied any involvement. After bringing the bike in and showing him the multitude of scratches I got him to agree to detail my bike so a potential buyer might not see the scratches as well. He said he was too busy to do it this week and would call me. To my surprise i never got a call

I had just moved to San Diego and read great reviews for a shop down the street but when I go there…read morethey were out of space so I drove home and saw Clairemont on the corner and stopped in. They aren't very friendly like people have said but I'm more concerned with getting my bike tire replaced than pleasantries. I have loved my past cycle shops even when the guys were gruff. It's about the work first and foremost. Cut to a year later and I have found a great shop recommended by co-worker and I ask them why my rear tire only lasted 800 miles of very light commuting? It had metal bands showing! Turns out It was the wrong tire for my bike and was designed for smaller lighter bikes not my bigger touring bike. The load index matters more than you think! I think they sold me what they had on their shelf. I suppose its on me to know my load index but I can now say my new shop would make sure I got the correct tire because they are purist they would even go so far to tell me no If I showed up with wrong tire because they care most about doing quality work. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure they covered their butt's when they sold it to me saying something like "This is a sport tire and wont last as long", NO this tire is not rated for my bike and is a very bad idea. Prices were fair and work was done in reasonable time. So not a bad shop, but I want something more. And to reviews that say they have a great inventory, very suspicious those are real. They have NO inventory at all I remember like 10 tires on the wall, that should have been a warning.

Above and beyond service from spark plugs to tires Jamie…read moredoes it right. I've always been pleased how hard he works to earn his customers business. Jon
