We had our home fumigated on Monday. (This was not part of a real estate transaction.) The inspector Randy was personable and straightforward. The office staff answered my many questions honestly and patiently. I was very impressed with the crew. They arrived on time, worked efficiently and pleasantly. They were careful not to damage our copper gutters or roof tiles, and took the time to put back the landscaping as was practicable. Also their tents are black, which we liked since they were less noticeable. I appreciated that this company is small. The pricing was fair and less than we expected! I highly recommend D & S Termite. Good work, not the best customer service. It was very easy to set up my appointment, but once the work was performed I felt the service quality dropped significantly. I worked with Kimber initially to set up my appointment and she was kind and answered all my questions. The work the company performed seemed to be good. The gentleman who performed the termite treatment was very nice and explained everything to me, however the workers that were brought on to our property for woodwork construction left debris and food wrappers stuffed into our plants and around the property. Leaving such a mess is very unprofessional and disrespectful in my opinion. After paying for a service I was unhappy having to clean up unessary mess. I had some issues with the invoicing/payment process and though some of the office personnel were nice, others were short and rude with me on the phone. Huge turnoff! Plus, I would speak to one representative and our verbal agreement on the billing wasn't recorded, so when I called a second time they didn't know what I was talking about. Recently bought a house and sellers used D&S termite. The fumigation was done and signed off before I moved in. 2 months in, I found winged termites emerging somewhere from ONE of my windows! Called D&S only to find they're closed weekends! Waited until Monday to call while swatting off termites from gaining ground further into my house. When I called and informed the lady about my issue, I asked her if they cover the cost of a second fumigation since their first one failed to do its job. She said "well since you said the termites are coming from your window that sounds like they're coming in from outside so you would have to pay for that." Boy, was I annoyed to hear that! It was barely 2 months since fumigation! They sent out an inspector (which I had to bend my schedule to meet with ASAP otherwise it was a week out for inspection). He came, looked around and said "yep. You have termites. I guess you were the 1% that fumigation failed." Fumigation was scheduled 2 weeks out because of SDGE's schedule apparently. Company didn't offer any assistance for my re-location during the few days I had to vacate my house. After fumigation and upon re-entry, I noticed only ONE window was open but the shutters were completely closed. I went in and started opening all my windows. After about 5 minutes I started to get major headaches probably because the ONE window they opened but was blocked by closed shutters didn't ventilate much at all (I mean cmon! Grow a brain people!) I also noticed my orchid pot (although the plant was dying) where I hid my key under was completely flipped upside down, dirt spread out flat and plant no where to be found (they probably threw it away?). I also find my hose from front yard moved to back yard completely tangled up. My small window screen from my kitchen bay window knocked down to the floor. Large tree roots that I dug up last week was moved/tossed (literally on top of my rose bush!) I called the company to complain about the lack of professionalism about not "putting things back where they were found" and they had the nerve to try to convince me to be understanding! That these were "just contract workers. Men that just get in and get out and they probably don't pay too much attention to small stuff." Really?!?! They did apologize but it didn't feel sincere, that's all. If I had a choice I would NOT go with this company again! 2 stars only because they covered the cost of my second fumigation (as they should anyway!!!) so 2 stars for not being complete scum bags. But I do question the professionalism and customer service. read more

D and S was chosen to inspect my new home by the seller's agent. Randy, the salesperson who came out to inspect my home was a very nice guy. The problem is, none of the people that work for D and S deliver on Randy's promises. I was a fool to allow escrow to close before you they fixed their shoddy work. Here is a summary of my experience: * I met Randy to discuss his inspection report. Randy was very nice did a good job explaining the termite problem and told me the following would be done: o all wood debris would be cleared from underneath the house to prevent future subterranean termite infestations o the eves would be repaired and painted o the subfloor under the bathroom would be repaired o water heater closet door would be replaced o the T and G in the closet would be repaired o the front windowsill would be repaired o the house would be tented o the house would be treated for subterranean termites * After the work was supposedly completed I came to find only superficial repairs to the exterior. I called Randy to complain that the following had not been completed: o window sill was not touched o closet was not touched o subfloor was not touched o water heater door was superficially repaired instead of replaced o a large area of termite damage on the front of the house was missed entirely * I waited two weeks for his crew to come out and complete the project. They were supposed to arrive at noon on 6/3 so I came home on my lunch break to meet them. I left at 1:30 unsure why they had not arrived or called. When I came home the same evening I found the termite damage on the front of the house partially repaired and that workers had been in the house but not repaired: o the windowsill o the closet o the subfloor * I called Randy yet again to ask that D and S fulfill the terms of their contract. Since I was clearly angry by this point, and justifiably so, Randy said he would have a crew at my house between 730 and 8 AM the following day (6/4/09). I called Randy to ask where they were at 8:10AM. They arrived at 8:25AM. I had to leave to go to work but I explained what the problems were and the crew promised to fix them. * I arrived home after work to find that the windowsill had been repaired and the closet had also been repaired but they were both painted a brownish tan color (the walls are white). Additionally, the workers left marks the walls in the closet while working and left fingerprints on other areas of the wall. * I contacted the owner who came out to inspect their shoddy work. She promised it would be completed/fixed. * I came home to find the worst paint job I have ever seen over their previous paint errors. Instead of wiping off the smudges they left on the wall they painted over them in a color that didn't match (it was closer than the brown they used previously though). Long story short... don't use this company. They don't care at all about the quality of their work. read more

I would give them NO stars if I could! EEK! Methinks Not is a huge understatement!!! I was very happy for the first few months with Justin. He came monthly and all was fine. He even cleared cobwebs. Justin does a great job and is a hard worker. He treated for spiders, ants, fleas, and all sorts of other bitey things. HOWEVER this is where it went south. I found our beautiful new house had termites in the fence, and I saw some winged ones in my office. So I called for a termite inspection to see the extent of the problem. Along came Randy ... smooth talker. Unfortunately, he lies! He submitted a report on me that said I requested him not to inspect the whole house. HOLY $#!! are you kidding me??? Why on earth would anyone call for a "free" termite inspection to get an idea of the cost and not have them inspect the whole house??? (I knew I had termites ... I have seen them ... I was a great customer, willing to pay them to eradicate my termites ... all of them, not just in one room, but the whole house!!!) This guy was greasy ... slick talker and fast talker, but puffery. If I were not already in a one-year contract with these pests of a pest-control place, I would absolutely avoid D&S Termites like the plague! read more

My house had to be tented and need termite repair. D&S came to the house the first time and did an inspection and left my side gate unlocked despite specific instructions to secure it as I have two Labradors that will get out. The second time they came they did repairs and left the gate OPEN and UNLOCKED! Thank God my dogs did not leave. Then prior to tenting, D&S gave me a checklist of things to do which included calling SDG&E to shut off gas and schedule to have it turned back on. When I called SDG&E, they said D&S already called to have it shut off. To make matters worse D&S failed to have knowledge of our share information that SDG&E requires a two week notice for an appointment to have the gas turned back on. With only a 3 day window I called SDG&E to schedule the turn on. They came on the requested date and same day as the tent remoal at 8am rather than the 12p time I had requested. SDG&E refused to return and we ended up without hot water or a stove for 2.5 days on top of having to stay in a motel for 2 days during the tent process. My chief complaint here is the breakdown of communication and accurate information. In addition, these people had absolutely NO RESPECT for our personal property. They entered my attic through the wrong access door in a closet despite specific instructions to enter through the hall access door. When they went in through the closet they dropped a considerable amount of nsulatiom all over blankets, my children's coats, and comforters. Most items need costly dry cleaning to remove the insulation. To top it off they left the attic access door partially ajar and a draft blowing more insulation into the attic was still occurring when I discovered the mess. They want you to sign all types of waivers regarding theft however, they want you to surrender your house keys because they said they have to enter your house after the fumigation to aerate the house of the toxic gases. Well, my hidden security camera caught the guy entering the house without any protective respirator after the tenting. Makes you wonder about the validity of this request and if they take any of your property you already signed a waiver not holding them responsible. I wouldn't trust these people further than I can throw them. They trashed my closet, left my gate unlocked potentially putting my dogs at risk of running away twice and entered my house without giving me the advance notice that I specifically requested so that I could be there. Less than a one star rating on this place! Avoid this place. I wish I could post pictures with this rating. The proof is in the pictures. read more

D&S Termite was recommended to me by a real estate broker. we live by the beach in La Jolla and as with any beach house termites are a issue. everything seem to go well until we returned to our home 6 hours after the time stated by D&S that the home would be safe for entry. Right away our eyes and throat started burning. We opened all the windows. This seemed to help. The next day when we came home from work after the house was closed up all day the same thing happened. We had called D&S during the day to complain and where told that the house had been filled with tear gas and it must still be in the house. I'm mildly asthmatic and exposure to this gas made my lungs go crazy! first I couldn't breath then I got very sick. It's taken 4 months to recover and has been a living hell. The company sent a bill a couple time but I waited to pay until I knew what my total for medical bills was. Once I was better and knew my out of pocket cost. I called the owner of the company. Her name is Dawn. I explained what happened and that I was unhappy with her service. I calmly told her what had happened and said that I was willing to pay my bill but wanted a discount because of her companies screw up. She was cold,rude and just down right mean. IF YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF LUNG OR SINES ISSUES DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! WORK AND SERVICE ARE HORRIBLE AT BEST AND CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS A JOKE. P.S. I was referred to D & S by a neighbor who is a home builder. After interviewing a few of the name brands (Terminix, Lloyd's, etc.) I selected D&S and have no regrets. The treatment method I decided on was tenting/fumigation. Although I was not aware of it previously, this process is not a simple one. It is very intrusive and disruptive to the homeowners. The further the work progressed the more thankful I was that I chose D&S. There is one reason I feel that way which is because from my initial contact with D&S until the work was completed there was one person involved on a daily basis. His name is Chris Parish. He was the one who made the original estimate. He is the one who worked with me in preparing for the fumigation (remove all food and plants. He is the one who met with our landscaper to be sure the exterior plants were protected. Chris was the one who climbed up on the roof to inspect the roof tiles after the tent was removed. Inadequate warning is provided to the customers as to how secure(INSECURE) your property will be. Windows are left open to aid in ventilation(completely open). Someone knew this, either from prior experience or from within the company and proceeded to steal my posessions. They came in during the night that the tent was still on, but the ventilation had been completed. Cut a screen and made off with $2400 of my property. I had chosen a high deductible insurance policy and was therefore completely out of luck. My attempts to seek any consolation or assistance from the company went nowhere. Probably due to lawyers telling them to never admit any responsibility during conversation or correspondence. Their contract states that they employ secondary locks, but ultimately the consumer is responsible for security. NO mention is made that the windows are left open. I was lucky that I hadn't moved in, and only a small portion of my tools were present to steal. Be advised, I don't recomend using D&S Termite, and hire a security guard whomever you choose. read more

I recently used D & S Termite control as part of a refinance. Within a couple of weeks, they were able to do the initial inspection; schedule minor repairs; tent and fumigate the home; and provide all documentation necessary for the financing institution. All communications were professional. Every e-mail was answered within hours, and usually within minutes; all my questions and concerns were addressed and resolved; bags were delivered in plenty of time; all schedules were met; and as far as I can tell no damage was done to my home. I didn't take competitive quotes, so I can't speak to the price; but the cost of around $2,000 for all these services, including repair of minor termite damage, certainly seemed reasonable to me. D&S was recommended by my realtor so I used home when one of our rental homes became vacant. You never know if a tenting is required, although they did show us the termites. They called several times in advance to make sure we had all of the paperwork and reminded me to turn the electricity off with SDG&E. Mike from D&S did my pre-purchase inspection and, though he did recommend tenting, he also reported "no structural damage." What he missed (visible under the house to even the general laborers) cost me around 10k and an additional month having to be out of my new house. Termite damage would have been a deal breaker for me in my home purchase! I called their office and requested a discount on tenting services (which is the least they could have done) and was told "no" and that they are unwilling to even give me a bit of a break! Come on, D&S! If your inspectors miss extensive damage visible to the naked eye of general laborers (who told me about it), the least you could do to make it right is a discount! I'm not talking about the damage that is seen when you take up floors. That is understandable. But if people who aren't inspectors pick it up and you don't, make it right! read more

How strange to read the bad reviews. I've worked with D&S on two different houses. Their inspectors are really good at finding termites in odd places. On my first house, the seller used one termite inspector. My realtor recommended I pay for a second inspection with D&S and they came through and found damage the seller's company missed that would not have been repaired. After that, I hired them for my yearly inspections and maintenance and they spot-treated and maintained the house well. This time around, both D&S and the seller's company agreed on the extent of the termite damage. The house was tented and once the tent was off D&S did the contracted repairs correctly. They replaced boards on my redwood porch with good, high-quality redwood, as you would expect. The subterranean guy had to drill into my concrete patio to put Termidor underneath, and patched the holes so well you would have to know to look to ever notice them. read more

This is comment for those that their house were broken into while the house was tented. Those fumes in the tent are deadly, no one entering can scape unharmed. No one want to enter inside the tent. At minimum those entering, day after the tenting, would become sick and have to go to hospital. My concern would be if those doing the fumigation (this company or any other) they take what they want before putting the deadly gas in. When I was purchasing my home this company was hired to do an inspection. In their report they said that the only thing wrong with my house was that some of the wood on my deck needed replacing and that the cost of that would be $6,000 dollars. After escrow closed I hired a different company to do the work on the deck and we found out that the damage of the deck was way worse than D&S had estimated. I tried calling them and they not only treated like an idiot and practically insulted me but they refused sending a different inspector to my house to look at the problems with the deck. After multiple calls that they didn't reply and a every time I call they kept lying saying they would call me back to program the inspector visit I got tired and I had my realtor help me contact the director of the company. After this they finally called me back and programed the new inspection. I didn't trust them at this point so I hired Top Notch Termite to check their work. The inspector from D&S termite was 2 hours late to the appointment and was telling me how the problem was that some of the damage wasn't visible. After showing him the visible areas were termites were, he finally said oh yes the other inspector should have seen this. Because I wanted them to admit their mistakes I told the new inspector that I had hired a different termite company to ensure that his work was right this time. After that suddenly there were some problems and there were termites in the attic. This inspector actually told me that they did a shitty job the first time and I thought finally we were getting somewhere.... Oh I was wrong!!! Every time I tried contacting them afterwards they ignored my phone calls and never replied to my emails. This company is the WORST, having my inspection with them was a 20 THOUSAND DOLLAR MISTAKE!!! So if you are buying a house PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM, I WOULD HATE SOMEONE ELSE EXPERIENCE WHAT I HAD TO GO THROUGH WITH THEM!!! read more

this company did the pre-purchase tenting as well as multiple follow up calls for dry rot repair and subterranean termites. Every single person I dealt with at the company was spectacular (well, except for the receptionist who wasnt very friendly at times). They responded to every concern I had after the close of escrow with my home and treated multiple areas that had dry rot or continued termite activity for months after I bought the house. They were all great, but Jeremy was especially great with customer service! They are punctual and professional and do great work. I will use them in the future for all my termite control needs. read more

I had some definite termites in my home (they started coming out every night into my bedroom!) so I called La Jolla Pest Ctrl and they came to inspect. Basically I knew I'd have to tent, but our main concerns were potential damages to the tile roof. Like everyone, LJPC offers a "tile guarantee" for an extra fee but notably, they subcontract the tenting process out to a company who doesn't deal with the public directly. The inadequate answers to our further questioning about the process and the tile guarantee ultimately led to our looking elsewhere. On Kudzu, I found D & S, to good reviews (strangely, unlike on Yelp), and had them inspect. I felt better that they do their own tenting and therefore should have more responsibility in that department. They also proclaim to be the Roof Specialists. Their pricing was hundreds less than LJPC. Still a bit apprehensive, I hired them and was there for the initial setting up. The guy who came in to make sure all the food was bagged up and everything was out of the house was professional and courteous. The guys who set up the tent were amazing, climbing up those ladders to the 2nd story, with the huge tents! They were nice as well. They did an initial tile count and actually found a number which were already broken. I was surprised, but they were able to actually show me what they were talking about, and sure enough we had cracked tiles already. In the end, the tenting went smoothly, was secure, and was an efficient process. The final tile count (after tenting) said that they had not broken any tiles in the procedure, but they went ahead as a courtesy and replaced a few of them while they were up there. We were impressed with their service and confident with their roofing abilities so we actually hired them to come back and fix all of the existing damaged tiles on the roof. I would recommend them to others. read more

this company is cheap for a reason! why do people assume to use the cheapest company for there residents? My own experience with D&S was very unpleasant. I did not hire them, my ex-landlord did, who is very cheap. My home was robbed while the place was under fumigation. I must agree with Chuckie on the reviews. They seem to go through all your personal items, for what reason I do not have a clue??. The big wig in the company told me that I should have hired a private security guard because this happens a lot. All I have to say to the consumers out there and home owners that the economy is bad and money is not flowing but in the end after hiring a company like this it ends up being more expensive!!! read more

Recently I found some termite drops at our yard. So I called three companies to come to inspect the problems. Three of them seem all very professional but the quote from D & S is very affordable. So I decided to use them for the local treatment. Jason is the guy to do the job and he is very careful and professional. It took more than an hour to treat about 10 local termite damages. I have documentation from Geico insurance that they were contacted twice with demands for payment. I had D & S tent my house for termites back in 2010. Still termite-free in 2014. Everything went smoothly except there was still a slight smell in the house when I got in. Not even bad enough to trigger my asthma, but noticeable. Having all the doors and windows open and every fan I could find going for most of the day to get rid of the last of it. Tenting should probably only be done in good warm weather, if possible. read more
