I was very disappointed with this bakery. I called ahead to ask if they can make a vegan cake and they said yes, no problem. When I went to pick it up the next day and I saw whipped cream frosting, I asked if this was vegan. They said yes, we didn't use eggs. I told them they couldn't use milk or cream for the frosting either. I had to explain that vegan is not using anything that was made from animal by products. And the Baker tried to explain to me that there is no other way to make frosting. So at that point I just took the cake and said it's too late to do anything. read more

I had ordered this cake in English over the phone, there were some minor communication difficulties but by the end of the phone call, I felt that we understood each other. I may have misunderstood but I thought I was told that the logo design I wanted on the cake would be printed and was quoted a fee $20 that was almost half the cost of the cake $50, I thought the print was going to be made of some sort of edible sugar. I called an hour (coming from Culver City, driving to San Gabriel valley just for thiprior to the agreed upon pick up time to let them know I would be there in an hour to pick up the cake and was told the cake would be ready. I get there and the cake is not ready. They show me a white piece of 8.5 x 11" inedible paper with a poor quality color print of the logo and roughly explained that the logo was too small for the top of the cake and that there would be a white border surrounding the top of the cake. I was not happy about this as the white border would starkly contrast the logo I had asked to be printed. I asked them if they could make the frosting border red so as to reduce the huge contrast between the top of the cake and the logo. They said ok. Then they put "happy bday joe" all across the top half of the cake, leaving the bottom blank. Again, I'm trying to not draw attention to all the empty space so I ask them to fix it so that it says "happy bday" on top and "Joe" on the bottom. I got the sense they were rushing all the fixes and wasn't sure they were understanding my request so rather than run into additional fixes down the road, I asked the cake decorator to put the cake down so we could slowly discuss what I want so as to reduce the likelihood of messing up the cake forever. I think whAt really pissed me off about the print was that if they were just going to print this out on a white piece of paper, why not make that clear to me at The beginning?!! I could've gone to FedEx and get it printed at a fraction of the price. Small Chinese bakery with several seats inside. They have different types of breads and pastries available, and they offer samples for some of them. I wasn't too crazy about the prize-to-quality ratio. They have Portuguese egg tarts that are smaller than what I'd like. I also tried their curry pie. If you choose to dine in, they will serve the pastry on a plate. I also asked if they could warm it up for me, which they graciously did. Actually, I was leaving the parking lot of another bakery a mile away that I had bookmarked, wasn't too impressed with that place, so broke out handy dandy Yelp and brought me to this place. This felt like a small-town, neighborhood type of a business of what seemed to be run by a family. I really don't know, but it just had that "homey" feeling. I had questions (son is allergic), and they were very friendly and patient. - Samples. Okay, you know how other places give you 1-inch sized samples? Not these guys. Their's are like 3-4 inches on average. Get 3 pieces and you'd almost feel like you don't even need to buy anymore. But you should... because: - Bread and cakes are D with a capital Delicious. I couldn't settle on 1 cake, so good thing counter lady mentioned they have individual sizes. I completely bypassed that display. What was I thinking?! Ended up with 8 individual slices of a variety. It's been 3 days and I've had 7 of them. Tiramisu - I pretty much can inhale a good tiramisu. Green tea - flavorful with red mung beans on the middle. Chestnut - wow, that thing was stuffed with 2 layers of chestnut pieces. Red Velvet - eh, typical... was the most dense of them all. Pistachio/Mocha - a very interesting combo. The pistachio seemed a bit off, but cake itself was good. Mocha was yummy. Taro - had taro beans. Probably the least flavorful of all. Mango mousse - a bit on the tart side, almost tasted like a lemon. Blueberry - haven't tried. Butter Danish bread - I think that's what it was... loaf of buttery goodness. Came in for their Dine-In only Happy Hour cake slice with coffee or tea deal. You can pick any cake slice and it's served with coffee (regular or latte) or tea (black or green). I got the Tiramisu slice with latte. Total cost was $5.45. The Tiramisu was moist and not overly sweet. The powder topping didn't drop all over when I bit into it. The slice was heavenly, and with each bite, melts in my mouth yummy, goodness! The latte was also good - wasn't too strong or bitter. I ended adding one packet of splenda to sweeten it. Afterwards, I took my latte to go. As long as you finish the cake, they will allow you to take the coffee to go. I bumped it up one star since they allowed me to take my latte to go, and that they now accept credit cards (but with $20.00 minimum purchase). I think I have found the bakery to produce my family's chestnut cake cravings from now until the rest of time. Seriously, I was on a hunt to find a bakery that sold chestnut cake (preferably fresh) for my dad on Father's Day. I called Diamond, Chiffon ... but most don't make them during June because chestnuts are not in season I suppose. And I had already tried the chestnut cakes from Sunny, Taipan, Cathy, Jim's (our family really likes chestnut and taro cakes!) but none of them were outstanding - in fact, most produced a pretty decent cake but failed on the chestnut filling. To my surprise and delight, D'ange does make chestnut cakes (thanks to the Yelper who wrote about it in her review!) and I also got a 10% off due to their cake promotion! Bakery is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Parking in the back, but the lot is shared by a few other restaurants, and certain spots are marked for certain places. The moment I walked in, I could smell the fresh aroma of bread. There are a few tables and chairs cramped in the side of the restaurant, then lots of packaged breads. But what really caught my attention were the European breads and big huge pastries the chefs were making behind the class counter. Brioche, baguettes, wow D'ange certainly knows their bread! I was really pleasantly surprised to see such a variety in a bakery I thought mainly specialized in Asian breads. They had bread constantly coming out of the oven, which really added to the overall pleasant aroma of the bakery. Lots of individual cake slices and even small macarons. The only problem is that there was no air conditioning on, so with the humidity coming from the ovens and the small cramped space of the bakery - it was pretty stifling. Apparently I ordered the wrong size cake - 6" is really tiny compared to the normal 8" (but now I know!) and the 10% off basically came out to the cake being the same price as it would have been before the promotion due to the tax. I suppose the cake could be cheaper, but the taste was so good ... The cake boxes are really cute and sturdy, with "shoelaces" coming out to secure the lid to the box. I was also given a plaque and a knife as well. Cake was really beautiful and artistically decorated. But what we loved most about the cake was the chestnut filling! It looked like it was made from real chestnuts (not chunky but in fig-like quality, if that makes sense) and there was real chestnut taste! The cake itself was soft and fluffy and not too sweet. With the adding of the cream, that was an awesome cake that my family had not had for awhile. I think D'ange perfects the Asian cake - not too sweet, yet perfectly flavorful with enough sugar to satisfy your sweet tooth. Needless to say, my dad devoured the cake within a few days and he even made the comment that if he had known I would have ordered the 6", he would have upgraded it to 8" and paid the difference. It was that good! I definitely will be coming back here for my cakes. I really want to try the lychee cake! tl;dr: AMAZING chestnut cake! Lots of bread selection. They take credit cards and they also have an afternoon special for $4 for a slice of cake and tea. The store is quite small, so I would recommend taking things to go if you can. read more

I've bought cakes from here 4 times and 2 times out of 4 the cake was super dry like saw dust. If you order in advance it might be ok but don't get the pre made ones. I called the store and spoke to the main chef. He just said the cake was refrigerated the night before and to wait a few hours before eating to let it get softer. This might be my new favorite bakery! Partially because they have taro bo luo bao (a taro flavored pineapple bun--I've never seen it anywhere else), po tat (HK style egg custard with milk), chestnut and lychee cake, all of which were scrumptious. The lychee cake really took me by surprise because it was so light and refreshing. It had a layer of lychee pudding on top and a bunch of real lychee in the middle! I also really enjoyed the purple yam danish--they're very generous with the creamy filling and the outer bun is perfectly crisp and sweet while the inside is soft and moist. I came here today at 8:30pm and unfortunately they were sold out of most of their baked goods, which in my opinion is a good thing because they don't serve anything leftover the next day. I can tell all their pastries are baked fresh and I'll definitely be back to try some more. They have a few parking spots reserved for their customers only which is awesome. I recently came here for breakfast with my family after hearing great things about their egg tarts. When we arrived, the lady working was helping out a regular customer and completely ignored us. After standing in line waiting for over 10 minutes (we were the only ones in the store at the time), she finally acknowledged us and told us she would be with us shortly while she happily chatted away. I'm not a huge fan of their customer service at this establishment. When they were finally done with their ridiculously long conversation, we were finally rung up for our purchases. We tried their egg tarts, mushroom danish, regular coffee, and hazelnut latte. Egg tart: I didn't really understand the hype with this item there. It was nice that it is not as sweet as your typically egg tart from other places but the filling and crust was nothing special in my opinion. Mushroom Danish: This item was pretty good but I wish there were more mushrooms on it. It was more like small mushroom shavings with cheese on top. It was a tad on the pricey side considering how few ingredients were sprinkled on top. Coffee Drinks: This was what irked me. They had NO PRICES for any of their drink items. Maybe all their drinks come in one size because both our coffee drinks came out in large cups without them asking. Oh and you wonder how much they are after you paid for them? Don't worry. They don't bother to give you a receipt as well (a little shady in my opinion). Overall, I wasn't really impressed with this bakery. Prices for some items are slightly higher than other asian bakeries in the SGV area. Oh, and if you're not a regular customer, they don't bother on giving any customer service. There are a lot of Chinese bakeries in my part of town, but a really good bakery is a lot like a Caucasian girl who is dating an Asian guy. It's something you hear about, but you never actually see it. Well, today that myth ends. D'ange Bakery is officially my favorite bakery in the area. (The myth about Caucasian girls & Asian guys is TOTALLY true, tho.) On to the food. D'ange bakery has a few goodies that are self-service, but the real action is the stuff behind the glass on the counter. I didn't want to offend the owner by taking pictures of all of her stuff, so I waited until I got home to take a picture of the pineapple danish. Still hungry from my misadventure next door at Emperor Noodle, I immediately ate one of the cheesy breads, but I was able to exercise some self control on the pineapple danish. When you hold the pineapple danish in your hand, what immediately strikes you is how dense the thing is. It could seriously be a paperweight on your desk. But when you open it up & start eating, you realize it's so dense because it's FULL of yummy pineapple jam on a fluffy, crisp pastry. Seriously, I could eat one of these every day for breakfast. But then I wouldn't fit in my pants anymore. I saw so many things that I would have loved to try. A loaf of pistachio cranberry bread. Strawberry danish. Napoleons. Cake wrapped inside a puff pastry. They also had pineapple cake that is made on-premises, and I'm dying to try that. After I paid for my 2 items the owner directed me to the samples under the glass cake plate. Came here for a few years and never had problems till March this year. My daughter found out there were black spots underneath the toast. I had no idea what was that, it looked like mold, I called the store right away and they asked me to come back for an exchange, since I lived far away I told them I would stop by next time, I threw away the rest because I was not sure if it is safe to eat. I went back once but the store closed due to COVID-19. I went today and showed them the photos I took last time with black spots. The lady seemed not happy about it and questioned why I waited so long to come and I should come back same day. The other lady came up to me even asked me which day I purchased the bread and checked the calendar. They told me it was not the mold and it was the rack using underneath giving the black spots. I'm amazed it's taken me this long to write a review seeing as how I exclusively eat egg tarts from D'ange and D'ange only. The egg tarts here are Portuguese style and have SO MUCH CUSTARD!! Honestly, the average dim sum egg tart should be ashamed because these tarts pretty much have about double the custard! Not only that but the custard here is super soft and not overly sweet which is great for me as I don't have the biggest sweet tooth. I also like the pastry exterior, it's flaky and buttery and just oh so good. I'm in love with these tarts!! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they've raised the price again to about $2 (my memory isn't the best so don't quote me on this) which is pretty expensive for an egg tart - but I'll probably still be back to get my fix the next time I'm craving!
