The "D" in D'Aviolio's stands for "Daaaaaaamn, this is awesome." Had a very nice dinner here on a Saturday night at around 6:30. Only two other tables were taken. It was a little confusing when we walked in because we didn't know if we could seat ourselves. Luckily, the waiter came in and told us we could sit wherever. He gave us laminated menus where we marked what we wanted in dry erase marker. Fun! I ordered a flatbread pizza and my friend had a salad. Both were delicious. His was fresh, crisp, and flavorful. He loved it. My pizza had arugula, onions, and tomatoes with the regular sauce, pepperoni, and cheese. It was very tasty, especially because I think they doctor it up with special oils. Yum. Good amount of toppings and I was happy they had cup-and-serve pepperoni. I can't wait to try everything on the menu. My pizza was 12 or 13 bucks, but it was big and I had a lot of leftovers. I gave this place four stars because our waiter was lovely. I forget his name, but he was tall, dark, and handsome. I knocked over part of my pizza in the beginning of the dinner and he was gracious and was not mad I made a complete mess on the floor. Oops. Only reasons I took off a star were for the parking, which is small and inconvenient, and the fact that it was freezing in the restaurant. Also, the cheese on my pizza seemed to fall off a lot. D'Avolio's has an incredible selection of flavored oils and vinegars. My first tasting came from a gift set my sister gave me for Christmas and now I'm hooked. Love my Basil, garlic and Tuscan Herb oils... & the 18 year balsamic is my go to vinegar! Last weekend I got to visit the store and sampled the black truffle oil- Boy oh boy do I love truffles! The antipasto is my all time favorite as you get to pick 2 meats, 2 cheeses and 2 vegetables from a huge list of options. Then grab a flavored oil and vinegar from tons of amazing flavors to try. The restaurant is beautiful and all of their oils and vinegars are for sale so make sure you take some home because nothing beats cooking with D'Avolio. If you are looking for a great salad go here. Not only can you customize it but you can create your dressing. Since the choices may be overwhelming they have suggested pairings. It's small, quaint and you can also purchase olive oil, seasonings, candles and balsamic vinegar to take home with you. I ordered the smoked salmon as a protein. It was fresh and perfectly sliced. I ordered takeout last night to bring over to a friend's house. When I pulled up, I was surprised that there weren't other cars in the parking lot On a Friday night. Once I went in, I was greeted by a very unhappy looking girl at the register who looked like I was bothering her even though I was the only customer in the place. There was also a man who I'm guessing was the manager based on his attire and he gave me a dirty look as well. I paid $67 for 2 small pizzas and a small salad (they forgot the bread that supposedly comes with it) so for that price, I would expect a little friendlier service. I've been on a seven day vacation from Toronto to Niagara falls and then to Buffalo, NY. We stumbed upon this restaurant by accident. It was the best experience our group of six had. The food was perfect. Pizzas were customizable with the best options you can think think of. For just under $12, you can make a great pizza that most people can't finish. The antipasto ingredients are fresh and large portioned​. They have 20+ Olive oils, and some great vinegars. Very glad we found this place. I will recommend this restaurant to everyone. I've been to D'avolio several times. Mostly to purchase the vinegars and oils. They have a great variety, you will find me doing test taster shots but there's bread for dipping too. I frequent this location since its close to me. I can't really review the food because honestly it's been a while since I've eaten there but I I hear they are opening a location on Transit Road that will have longer restaurant hours so maybe I will be able to try that out for dinner. My visit which prompts this review is for a healthy options cooking class held by The Independent Health Foundation. The class was $15 and was hosted by a local chef who made that healthy options menu for us all done in conjunction with the IH foundation. On the menu was a black bean sweet potato vegetarian chili and thyme chicken breast. I was pretty impressed although I'm no novice at cooking yet it was a great experience for a weeknight activity. read more

BEYOND DISAPPOINTED! I have been to D'Avolio multiple times and it is a place where me and my family frequent often and take people visiting from out of town. However, the past few times I have been there the quality of the food has not been the same. The quality of the food had depreciated, especially when it comes to their salads. The past few times have really let me down because the salad has been watery, the freshness of the produce is awful, and the salad is tasteless. I felt unsatisfied after this past dining experience and it will most definitely be a long time until I decide to go back. My last review was so old that apparently they weren't even serving food yet! There's loads of other reviews so I'll give you a quick rundown: -Food is great. Very fresh, diverse ingredients. Menu is simple and easy, and even though it seems like there's only 4 things on the menu, you can get so much diversity from it that you could eat there every day for a month and find something new. - Service is... improving. They got way too popular way too fast and they're still catching up. They'll figure it out, but for now I won't even bother going if I can't get there before 11:55am or after 1:30pm. You can always do takeout if you don't have the patience or fortitude to stand around waiting for a table, though. I get it... you're so busy and so popular, why bother with reservations, opentable or nowait, a comfortable waiting area, legitimate ways to check people in, etc? (Hint: because someone will copycat you soon and start making their own loads of money, and you want to hold on to your customers.) Really though, the food is great! Gluten free crust available for the pizzas, or if you order an antipasta, just write "GF" and tell the waitress to leave off the bread. My advice: don't bother with the salads. The antipasta gives you more delicious food for the same price and comes on top of salad greens anyway! It's by far my go-to. read more

How I hate to take away a star, but it's been too long and D'Avolio's Kitchen has done absolutely nothing to improve the restaurant service. I was terribly embarrassed to have an out-of-town guest experience such poor service. The food is excellent! Well prepared and well presented. The food is not the issue. I surmise the poor service problem lies in management/leadership. Apparently, no one is training these servers in the most basic restaurant customer service skills: * be welcoming and attend to your customers (they PAY you). * Escort guests to a table (even if they choose). * For heaven's sake, NOTICE the table needs cleaning and SAY SO. Do NOT, repeat, DO NOT ignore the last patron's lunch mess and begin to place menus for the new customers over it. * Do not cause your patrons to say, "the table needs to be cleaned." * WATCH for body language and cues. They have set down the menu. The pen. They might be glancing your way. You know it. You ignore it in favor of clearing another table. * NOTE: Most of us are on lunch break and not intent on sitting there waiting for you to organize your cupboard. * Absolutely do not clear another table whilst people are waiting to place their order. * And when folks are done, for crying out loud, remove the plates and pizza serving racks! We could hardly see each other over the litter on the table. A good server would have removed used plates promptly. * If someone requests water, don't bring it warm with two quasi-melted ice cubes and no lemon. * Lastly, never swoop away from the table with the closed black book containing the bill and ask if "we're all set". Just don't. Say you'll be right back. And then do so. The service is horrendous. And I'm not sure it's the fault of the servers. I've worked in food service and I know I had to learn and was fortunate to have a great leader who demanded his staff treat every patron as if it were their once a year day to eat out. Great service is key to enjoying great food. Step up to the plate, management. Give your employees regular direction on how to be the best servers. Teach them hospitality and food service etiquette. Have weekly training, regular meetings. Create teamwork and see the employee retention rates soar. You may not think it matters, you're busy enough. People are returning for the food. How much do I love D'Avolio's Kitchen? We ordered takeout for lunch at work on Wednesday. It was so damn delicious, we ordered again on Thursday. I currently work nearby but next week I'm actually getting moved to another location, and I'm thinking about asking my boss to take my original job back just so I can order from D'Avolio's every single day! This review is obviously for takeout only, but although the inside is small, it's super cute and would be a great place to have lunch with a friend (not ideal for large groups). Their menu is very interesting- decide if you want a salad, antipasto, pizza, or sandwich. Then choose your meats, cheeses, spreads, and veggies. I had the antipasto both days, because I just love the variety available! The first day I had prosciutto and house made meatballs, feta and fresh mozzarella, roasted asparagus and spicy broccoli, house made olive tapenade, and it comes with 2 small pieces of delicious focaccia bread. SO AMAZING. Everything was delicious, homemade and with high quality ingredients. I felt like I could have been eating a meal somewhere in Tuscany (albeit in a takeout container in the work break room). My favorites were the prosciutto (melts in your mouth, salty goodness) and the spicy broccoli (definitely had a nice kick to it) so I definitely got those repeats the next day. I also tried the chicken, which was cold but nicely seasoned and grilled, roasted beets (paired well with the amazing goat cheese), sharp cheddar, and the caponata spread. You could literally eat here every day for a year and have a different combination every day. And it would all be delicious. Today I was responsible for picking up our order, and it was packed with a waitlist for lunch. There is some off-street parking but not much. I noticed the owner walking around to all of the tables, asking them how everything was, which is always great to see. I have frequented D'Avolio's for years for their olive oils, but the Kitchen has sold me. My favorite lunch haunt in the Village of Williamsville. You've all had their delicious oils and vinegars, so don't miss coming here for a lunch. The pizzas are crispy without being oily, the salads are MASSIVE, and the sandwiches are upscale and again, well-sized. The foccacia that comes with the salads and that the sandwiches are served on is the stuff of dreams - with flaked sea salt and rosemary, the crust is beyond incredible with an airy soft inside. What is perhaps the most fun part is that you can choose from a curated duo or create your own oil and vinegar dressing to use on the salads/sandwiches - a great way to try a new oil without a) spending $15 or b) sipping it out of a cup with no real context in the store. Within the last few months, D'Avolio started serving Ashker's juices as well making this a great healthy-yet-delicious stop for lunch. Had a great experience. Walking in is like going home; very warm and welcoming staff. Food was delicious, almost filled up on a free sample focaccia that was as big as a regular meal. Prices are good and you get huge portions to share! The pizza is big enough for 2-3, Salad is the same. I love the oils, vinegars, and food here-but all that aside I have to comment on a wonderful customer service experience I had this week. I was here for lunch with my mom, and we both ordered salads, which come with their homemade focaccia bread (which is fantastic). They forgot to put mine on my salad, and when I went and asked for a piece instead of giving me a piece of bread, they gave me a PLATTER with 4 pieces of bread, a container of basil pesto, a container of caponata, and a profuse and heartfelt apology. All this in under a minute. I was stunned. I would've been perfectly happy had they just handed me a piece of bread, but with this reaction I felt like a QUEEN. I love that they renovated the patio and started using servers instead of ordering at the counter in the past. It can still be a little confusing for someone new to walk in, especially during lunch hour when it is almost always full. Love D'Avolio....but, the bread has gone downhill. Used to have a crusty chiabatta with a light inside that made a wonderful sandwich. Recently it was a more dry, crumbly bread. It actually detracted from the sandwich. Salads are still fantastic. Hope no one messed with the pizza crust! Will give it another try and hope they go back to the old style bread. The process of ordering food is a bit confusing at first. You are presented with a choice of lists: pizza, sandwiches and salads (antipastos). From these lists you circle your options of what you want, which gives you an amazingly diverse choice of delicacies. After turning in your list, they make your order as you want it; fresh and just for you. Our sandwiches included a side-salad, and you get to mix your own dressing from the variety of olive oils, vinegars and spices - which provides such an incredible array of flavors, trying to choose is difficult. And this is why you need to try their restaurant more than once! Always customer oriented, while we waited for our orders we were brought a complimentary soup sampler with bread to get us started, and of course you are welcome to try the wide variety of olive oils and vinegars they always have in their restaurant. Believe me, fresh bread, olive oil and spices - I can turn that into a meal, and have, many times! I'm giving D'avolio's a five.
