I was not impressed. Everything looked great and I was excited to try it out. Bought pizza chips/rounds which were okay. I've been to a couple other places and liked theirs a lot more. And I bought a piece of carrot cake and tiramisu which I did not like either one. Neither did my friend, we split everything. Hands down the best mini meatball calzones!!!! Real homemade meatballs not fake processed meat balls !!!! And the calzones are always warm and they put them in the oven if you want them hot!! I grew up on the "party pizza" from this bakery. I have so many fond memories of this place I could write a book. The spinach pies straight out of the oven are to die for. 4 stars because it was better before the fire. Those pans prefixes were seasoned to perfection. My daughter makes me drive 50 minutes to get an eggplant parmigiana sandwich here. Each time on the first bite she tells me, " I'm so glad I'm Italian!!" The only thing I have never tried is the deli meat, because well it is deli meat. But I can attest that everything in that building is first rate. The Rhode Island Red is unbeatable, the mini calzones are undeniable. What else? Italian tacos, the specialty strips, the white stripes with a the perfect amount of garlic and black pepper. Meatballs made from scratch, let me tell ya meatballs are HARD to get right and they nailed it. All the prepared foods they have that changes on the daily basis is plated and set out beautifully. If you have a party and don't want to cook, take a gander at the at the catered menu, all priced well and you get a generous amount of food. FOOTBALL SUNDAY=Chicken wings and beer right? Well you cant get beer here, but you can get wings!! Italian roasted, lemon and rosemary(my favorite), root beer, and a few other secret flavors (just ask). Bread is amazing but go early for that.... Lastly the creative kitchen wizards came up with the "pizza bites" which are basically the ends of the crust, tossed in a little sauce and oil with a small amount of red pepper flake. RI-DIC-U-LOUS. I tried to buy all the containers when I go, again you need to go early because they sell out fast. I am tired of hearing and seeing "others" claim they are the original bakery and the bites are theirs....bs....it STARTED here folks. I used to cone here all the time...and always eat the same thing...a piece of eggplant pizza and 2 bruschetta, which usual comes to around 5 and change....I go the today and it's $8.37....that's way too much for what I got....Seems like ever since the fire all they do is keep going up and up.... Now, I'm not a cheap person....I'll spend $100 for a meal if it's worth it....but $8.37 for 1 piece of pizza and 2 small bruschetta is just a little ridiculous.. Brought a very fussy friend in to sample pizza strips. The line out to the door always is there, the sign of a good place. He ate three large ones and then two cannoli. Raved about the quality of each, and commented without being prompted about the testiness of the staff. Again, this is as good as it gets for a true Italian bakery...but the ladies there really need to lighten up. read more

Sure, the little town in RI known for having one of the highest Itlo-Am populations in the country is also responsible for supplying the world with some of the most culturally degrading and morally reprehensible atrocities of recent memory. Namely the enormous detritus pile known the state-over as the landfill, the soulless pay-for-slay slaughterhouse known as RI Beef and Veal and the equally soulless (and talentless) king douchebag known as Pauly D. Fortunately, all that is lame in Johnston can be forgiven thanks to D. Palmieri's. No, I take that back - all is forgiven because of their pizza. Known throughout our territory as bakery pizza or pizza strips, DP's does it in a familiar, but decidedly unique manner. Theirs has a crispness that can only be achieved by way of a thorough dousing of oil and high temperature ovens, which causes the dough to nearly fry in the process. In comparison to most local bakeries, the strips are cut smaller and on a remarkable lengthwise bias which takes on the shape of a rhombus, if ever viewed in profile. The two bites it takes to down a portion are gratified by a slightly savory, turn-your-thumb-and-index-finger-orange slathering of tomato compenade (portmanteau of compote and tapenade). It is amazingly good. So clean off your Air Johnstons (white Reebok classics), get in your Maxima with the upside-down red, white and green flag magnet stuck to the bumper and turn off of Atwood Ave, for once. When you get to Killingly, pick up a sheet of this stuff - that is assuming they aren't sold out by the time you wake up, well after noon. read more

The food is great but if the customer service isn't, it'll start to affect the taste. I've been coming here for the past 2 years since I move into the area and never had an issue. I came to pick up my sandwich and waited for a few minutes without being acknowledged at all, when the workers just stood there and looked at my directly at my face. Then when I when I asked to be helped to pick up my sandwich (that usually buy for 10.95) they decided to charge me 14 dollars for a roast beef and said it was because of the cheese? Since when do you charge for the cheese if it came with it? What changed now? Anyway, I'll always be a loyal customer. This place is very out of my way, so the only time I go is when I get my hair done since its near there for me. I love this place though! The parking isn't exactly the best, but the food and prices are great. All of their food and pastries are homemade. I get the red sauce pizza strip with no cheese. The sauce is a little salty and the "crust" in thick. I get it room temperature, not heated up. It's definitely not for everyone but I thoroughly enjoy it. They also have New York styled pizza with all kinds of different toppings. I think it's the garlic in the sauce that makes it salty. They have deli, calzones, meatballs, eggplant, wings, breakfast and so much more! You even have the option of buying their dough (not cooked) so you can make your own pizza's at home. The dough you can buy is a thin crust dough, which is delicious. You can also buy their sauces, soups, salads and much more. The staff are friendly. They do have a few tables for you to sit and eat if you wish. One thing to keep in mind is that if you go during prime lunch hours you will most likely be waiting in a line, possibly out the door. read more

Recently moved to RI and have been a regular here. Food is always great and they have the BEST pepper biscuits! I gave it two stars because I walked in today and saw one of the guys in the kitchen window (you can see them from the register) blowing his nose, then wiping his nose with the back of his hand ... then continued to prepare food. They also have a variety of other choices as well, such as cookies, biscuits, sandwiches, and the bread is good, too. Party pizza? Check. Eggplant parm? Check. Roast beef sandwich? Check. Egg biscuits? Check. BUT DID YOU REMEMBER THE PEPPER BISCUITS? Aye! Check! I have been coming here since I was practically infantile and it always feels like home, smells like home, tastes like home (omg the pepper biscuits!!!!!). I know everyone, everyone knows me, we throw jokes and make fun back and forth, catch up on everyone's (and I mean everyone) families and their business and all those familiar, super Johnston-Italian idiosyncrasies that you can find when you walk in the door. For instance: Some newcomers, passerbys or people who don't understand the familial internal structure you might find it intimidating to see/hear Vito and Steve yell back and forth in the back about putting too much cheese on the NY style thin crust pizza, and customers might think the women in the front are rude for rolling their eyes at the ridiculousness of the situation (I roll my eyes along with them!). But that's okay. It's just them. That's family business. They'll be perfectly amiable to each other in about half an hour. And chances are, the more you come back, you'll be welcomed into the family like the rest of us have been (don't worry, you don't HAVE to be Johnston-Italian). I read such good reviews about this place. I pass it everyday on my way to work and was excited to try it. I walked in today a few minutes after 5 o'clock,mind you they close at 6 so not for another 50 minutes. I walk in one of the girls looked at me so I said hi and was looking around. Both girls completely ignored me didn't say hi how are you, can I help you get something. They just continued to clean. A couple minutes of looking around and not being acknowledged I left. My office ordered sandwiches from this bakery and I have to admit .....it was good! The fresh made soft bread has a nice flavor to it and you most certainly taste the freshness! I had a small Italian grinder the size was spot on for the amount paid! I am also impressed with the quality of the meat I could taste all the individual flavors and it was awesome. My sandwich did not have any veggies on it but I am not sure if it is not offered or the person that ordered my sandwich just left it off. Overall I will most definitely eat here again! read more
