I've just started my vegan journey due to health reasons so i've had to completely change the way I eat. Having a few staple vegan dishes I make at home I needed to venture out and find vegan places! When I got here I was thrown off by the smell, noticing I entered the Hong Kong mart by mistake. If you enter the mart just take a right and walk through the sliding doors. All the way in the back is the actual d'vegan. On to the actual food + experience. Great great service, the staff was very nice and polite. The young lady behind the counter was very helpful answering my questions. I got the beef broccoli flat noodle dish with two crispy rolls. I couldn't believe there was NO meat! At first glance, you can easily miss this place because it's in a supermarket. Before walking into the actual restaurant, you walk into the supermarket and pass some other food places. The smell from the supermarket might deter you, but don't. It was well worth it for anyone wanting vegan food! I'm not an avid vegan but I grew up eating vegan food. I will say this place does a fantastic job! The owner follows Buddhism strictly, so everything is 100% vegan and then some (strict Buddhist don't use certain herbs and spices). I had the goi cuon & bi cuon (spring rolls, different "meats"), cha gio (egg rolls), and pho (rice noodle soup). The Spring rolls are what you expect of spring rolls, good amount of veggies and with some protein. The goi cuon is served with the vegan version of fish sauce (which was super tasty) and the bi cuon is served with peanut sauce (I'm allergic to peanuts but my friends tried it and loved it). Of course you can ask for either one. The egg rolls were crispy and also served with vegan fish sauce. Shredded tofu with veggies make up its filling. The PHO!!! They managed to mimic beef pho. The borough was so flavorful, the tofu and "beef" compliments the rice noodles with the veggies (bean sprouts, Thai basil, onions). If you have had pho before, I definitely suggest this! love this place when I'm craving authentic vegan viet food. My husband who has vietnamese distant family, they all like it too. The older lady who runs the place doesn't speak much english, but she is so sweet and adorable. Just point at what you want to order, and you'll be fine! Reasonable prices as well. I love this place! For years I always avoided it because it looked dark and gloomy from the outside. Inside, it's still pretty dark but the food is oh so good I can ignore it. I've gotten every single one of the soups, but I haven't tried any of the rice or stir fry yet. ( Still working my way over to that side of the menu) Make sure you get the attention of the waiter before you sit down or they won't know you're there. (It's a Mother and Son run restaurant.) The food is flavor packed, and even though the bowls look a little small,trust me it's enough. I recommend any of the soups but especially the BBH ( Bun Bo Hue). Soups usually run $7-8 for a bowl which is typical of a Vietnamese place. Remember they don't bring checks to you here, it a "walk to the counter" type of place. I was watching this couple who was clearly new to the way Vietnamese restaurants work because they were waiting for their check for almost 20 minutes before I realized what was happening and told them. This is hands down the best veggie Vietnamese food I've had in Dallas. A lot of time Veggie Pho is trash and disappointing. D'Vegan's Vegetarian Pho is the best I've ever had. The beef and broth taste stands next to many other traditional pho places. The Udon is not bad either. The taste is great but I didn't prefer the texture of their udon noodles. After eating here, I couldn't stop thinking about the good food. So, on my road trip to Lafayette, LA, I decided to stop in to get some sandwiches to tide me over during the 6 hour drive. They have one sandwich and it is the best vegan sandwich and I couldn't get enough of it so I was glad I got 2 of them. It is only $2.50 so it is even better than buying stuff and making our own. I then went back and decided to "dine in" for a change and took my friend with me. We ordered Cha Gio (crispy spring rolls) which was excellent. The outside was so nice and crispy and the dipping sauce was really nice, almost seemed like a carrot sauce. I had Bun Bo Xao Xa Ot (Spicy Lemon Grass Noodle) and it was really tasty and I could have eaten more. My friend had Com Ga Xa Ot (Spicy Lemon Grass Rice) and he was really impressed with the flavor and scarfed it all up. We brought our own beer and really enjoyed our meal. I also bought their home made fermented bean sauce for $5 which he said you can use to stir fry as well as a dipping sauce by adding garlic, sugar (because it is really salty) and lime. I will be trying that soon. And, also got a container of marinated fried tofu and, oh my gosh, it is so delicious with salads, sandwich or some protein in a stir fry. I have been vegan for 20 years. I've tried every vegan restaurant in the metroplex, so this review is based on that experience. I have wanted to try D'Vegan for a few years and today I made the 40 minute drive. The Hong Kong grocery store next door was a treat, with many options for the vegan chef. The lemongrass tofu at Tuyet Tofu is to die for! It was a challenge to walk past all the charred, dead bodies hanging for sale just outside the door of D'Vegan, but I made it, thinking of the delicious vegan meal I was about to have. I walked in to an all but empty place, waved to an unmasked waitress and sat down. She came over and I said I'd love some spring rolls and a glass of water and the menu to pick my entree. 10 minutes later, the spring rolls came out with a bottle of water. I asked her for a glass of water again-(water bottles are a landfill nightmare) and soy sauce. She brought me a tray of sauces that are carried from table to table and by the crust on the bottles, rarely washed. Against my better judgement, I ordered my noodle entree. Still thirsty, I tried one of the spring rolls. If you want absolutely no flavor, this is for you. The peanut sauce was also bland and tasted old. Even soy sauce couldn't help. The spring rolls had a sliver of tofu, wilted lettuce, a few bean sprouts and noodles. That's is. No cilantro, mint, cucumber or carrot as is traditional. Just BlandBlandBland. 3 bites and I pushed the plate aside. At 20 minutes I asked again for a glass of water. Again brought a bottle. Repeated my request for a glass-obviously they were trying to pad the bill and pretending not to understand English. After 30 minutes the entree came out-#33. I had to ask for a fork and was again brought a container that is carried from table to table, obvious from the grime and crud on the outside of the lid I had to open to access the silverware. For $10.50 I got some greasy noodles, 3 pieces of 1 1/2 "beef" and 5 pieces of 1" tofu, 3 small pieces of broccoli and a little cabbage. No onions or mushrooms that I asked for. The overwhelming flavor was the artificial beef seasoning I've purchased from the asian market myself-and threw away. (clove flavor) Basically inedible. I sat and waited to ask for a to go box for my dogs, but customer service continued to be nonexistent. Paid through the heavy plastic sheet (that everyone touches repeatedly-great covid protection!) and left hungry. Save your money-and possibly your health, and go elsewhere for your vegan fix. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we loved the food here! We brought a group of six people here for our first time and didn't know what to expect at such a quiet, middle of the mall spot. We ordered the shaking beef, bun bo hue, crunch noodle (mi xao mem), lemongrass chicken, the sandwich and cheesecake - everything was great! The cheesecake was not too sweet and perfectly moist. This is a hidden gem inside the Hong Kong Supermarket building. Don't be intimidated by the way it looks! Even though Bistro B has great vegan/vegetarian options, you should really give it a try. So worth it. Everything they serve here is vegan and tastes still great. My personal favorites are pho, fried flat noodles and crispy rolls. Coconut algae jelly dessert is epic. If you love coconut, just get it right away. Few complaints I have - 1. Too much fake meat. My non-vegan/vegetarian friends actually liked fake meat products but I don't care much and usually ask them to omit that part. I think they could just use fresh vegetables (and tofu) instead of using those processed fake meat. 2. Service is not the greatest. It's slow. And most of them don't speak English very well. You can still order by pointing the menu (that comes with photos and numbers for each dish, yay!), but if you want some modifications for your order, that could be a challenge. This is my favorite vegan place I have found in the DFW! I drive an hour away just to get to it and it never disappoints! I ordered the Shaken Beef AND the Rice Porridge just to taste both and they were beyond amazing! I took the rest of the rice porridge to go and am having it for breakfast as I write this review. The people working their are so nice, attentive and hard working! You can tell they put in hard work everyday in order to run this restaurant! After my first visit and upon checkout the sweet little lady gave me a free cookie and a hug which brightened my day so much! This place is AMAZING. I've been going with my mom since freshman year of high school, and I'm so glad I'm staying local for Uni so I can keep coming here. The food is to die for, super healthy and 100% vegan-- they even serve Buddhist monks, it's that vegan-- and it's a lovely place for a nice sit-down meal. The staff is so friendly, even if some of them don't speak very fluently in English. At one point we were going so regularly that they taught us a little bit of Vietnamese so we could order and such. We always get the Pho and a side of spring rolls. The Pho bowls are big enough for two people, so do keep that in mind if you're going alone. It's always a little cold in there, so make sure to bring a jacket or scarf. Great for groups, I've taken several there and the service has always been amazing. The dishes are large enough that ordering around three (plus side dishes) can feed five or six people. Unfortunately their hours are a little strange, so sometimes it's hard for me to go there. Best Vietnamese vegan food you can find! Everything we've had there so far has been tasty!

First you have to get into the place. It's right next door to Bistro B, so fight the urge to go there instead. Then you have to walk through a rundown Asian market with all the sights and smells involved. And then you have to take a seat inside where it's not the cleanest place. Ok, are you seated? Good, because anything you order is going to be delicious and 100% vegan. We ordered the crispy strips appetizer, which was very good. Kinda like chicken strips, but made with tofu/seitan. I personally don't like fake meat and i really liked them. They were light and not trying to be a meat substitute. My wife got the joy noodle soup dish, which was spicy and flavorful. I might actually like it better than pho. I got the lemongrass tofu rice dish. It was really good. The texture of the tofu/seitan was perfect, and the seasoning and sauce were great. We also got some ban mai to go for the next day. We will be back for sure. read more

I don't eat seafood or pork so it's often difficult for me to eat at Vietnamese restaurants except for pho places of course. Bun bo hue and banh canh, for example are usually pork based soups, and bun rieu is anyone's guess as a seafood or pork based soup. So I often resort to eating Vietnamese food at home tailored to my dietary restrictions. You can imagine how happy I was when I found d'vegan! I love their soup dishes: especially the bun bo hue (pronounced boom baw hway). Sorry, there's tonal changes to the words, but this is a decent phonetic spelling! :P Get it! For the love of everything holy, get the bun bo hue!! It's delicious and even better than I remember when I used to eat it as a kid. I love their food and love supporting this restaurant. I hope they stay in business forever and the owners make a decent living for themselves. I believe it's a family of elderly women and a middle-aged man (those are the people that I see all the time anyway). VEGANS, BEWARE! I've been to my fair share of vegan restaurants in the past (from FL to CA), and cook exclusively vegan at home. This place is either not vegan, or so poorly sanitized that it gave us food poisoning. Now, we've been eating a lot of other vegan foods at non-vegan places, and due to food sensitivity, I can easily tell when cross contamination takes place. I truly believe we just ate low-quality MEAT. I genuinely feel lied to. First, let me begin by saying that in order to even enter the restaurant, you're surrounded by god-awful smelling Vietnamese/East Asian eateries, primarily focused on meat. It literally smells like something is rotting. Then upon entrance, you're not greeted or even offered subpar customer service. The restaurant definitely didn't look clean and there was only 2 other customers. I honestly regret paying what we did. The moment we ate into the vegan chicken- I instantly knew something was off. Gluten does NOT create certain textures, and tofu definitely doesn't do it either. We normally don't feel tired after our meals, but only 1/2 hour after eating at this establishment, we felt like taking a nap and can't stop having gas/indigestion issues. I feel lied to, grossed out, ripped off, and I warn any vegan from coming by here. Want good Asian vegan food? Go to Loving Hut. You'll get your monies worth & peace of mind. Finally convinced my boyfriend and friend to take the trek to D'Vegan. This review is based on all of our experiences: the vegan, the vegetarian, and the omivore. I was craving pho and while there are plenty of closer places, the great reviews on this place have had me wanting to try it for some time. I had the highest hopes for this place, but our adventure was one of the most bizarre experiences we've had at a restaurant. First, it is in an Asian strip mall. We immediately felt a little reluctant to go in when when the restaurant right next to it had skinned ducks (with their heads still on) on display for all to see. I've been to Asia so I shrugged it off and used it to justify that the food would be really authentic. The other two were slightly mortified. We were sat in a booth right under a TV and the weirdness commenced. The volume was turned up SO loud and it was the creepiest childrens' show I have ever seen (The Wiggles). Between the queasiness we all already felt from a heavy night of drinking the night before, the less-than-pleasant smell that filled the whole strip mall, the hanging animals, and the "bad trip" television show screaming at us, we were all extremely itching to order, eat, and run. I was depending on the food to make up for it. We ordered the crispy spring rolls, the regular spring rolls, the bahn mi appetizer, and pho. It was... eh. The spring rolls were tiny and lacking flavor. The bahn mi was okay, but nothing mind-blowing. The pho, the reason I was there, was very unimpressive. I don't know if the environment was affecting my judgment, but the soy protein meat was extremely chewy and had an "off" flavor. The whole bowl was just bland. I am very disappointed with our experience. I think the food would have to be mind-blowing to overcome the rest of the package, and it wasn't. OK... I've been here twice and the second experience was very different from the first. First time I was doing everything in my power to avoid their soy based dishes (which happen to be almost all of them). So I settled for a noodle soup. It was good enough, but I felt like I was missing something because the reviews I'd read said something very different about the food at this place than what I was feeling after my first visit. People are raving over it! My husband and I always returned for their vegetarian rolls or the vegan version of egg rolls... Crisp rolls I think. So good. The very nice owner seemed disappointed that we weren't dining in and trying his other dishes. So last week we decided to finally dine in and try some of the other dishes with soy. Man oh man... Such a different experience. My husband had the happy fried rice and I the spicy lemon grass dish... So so good. I especially loved my dish and as a result we are getting to go orders tonight. I'll just have to detox the soy out of my system over next few days... As for the service... Wonderful! And I really love chatting with the owner. His spirit is beautiful and his conversation wise! My wife has recently become vegan. I am not, but I am trying to be supportive. If eating at D'Vegan is what it takes to make her happy, then yeah, I can totally do this. I was amazed at how good vegan pho is -- I wouldn't have believed it if you told me, but these people nailed it. They had vegan cheesecake, too! I've had that before, at Cosmic Cafe, and CC's version was quite good but also hideously ugly. This was not only delicious but also very pretty. If you're vegan, you should eat here. D'Vegan has the best vegan food in Dallas. Forget D Magazine's "best." This is a family owned and operated restaurant with a 100% vegan kitchen. The food is made with care by lovely people (including at least 3 generations of the family). The owner is motivated to keep developing the menu to keep the selection fresh and interesting. The quality of every dish I have ordered has ranged from very good to amazing. The pho and all the soups are excellent. I order them to go when someone in my family is under the weather. They also have a great selection of noodle dishes and rice dishes, including a lemongrass rice dish that reminds me of vegan salmon, in a good way. I never thought I'd get pho again after so many times ordering "vegetarian" pho to later discover that the restaurant prepared the broth with "no meat, only bones" (eeew). Please be aware that D'Vegan is located right next to a small Asian BBQ joint that hangs smoked ducks and other smoked animals in their window. So if that image grosses you out, just remember that walking the meat gauntlet is totally worth it!!! Unlike most other Asian restaurants that offer some "vegetarian" items (and likely cross-contamination with meat), there is ZERO MEAT, dairy, or eggs in their kitchen. I have learned to view the smoked ducks as a cautionary message that only makes me feel better about eating at D'Vegan. read more

Unprepared, Unprofessional, and probably Racist. This is some of the worst service I ever received. We were only white couple in the restaurant with three separate groups of Asian patrons joining us five to ten minutes after we arrived. Our Asian server approached and asked if we were ready to order, we indicated we were and he said he needed to find a pen. After finding his pen he took the order from some Asian patrons that had just arrived and then returned to us. I attempted to order one dish and his response "we're out of the stuff to make that". With further inquiry he indicated they didn't have flat noodles which I found odd since they were located right next door to an Asian Supermarket. I asked if they could substitute crispy noodle instead. He said he'd check but "they'd probably charge me extra". No follow-up provided by server. We ordered a Coconut Water, Passion Fruit, Rolls, and a couple of entrees. Coconut Water arrived 10 minutes after order placement. Two other Asian Groups ordered. 20 minutes after order place and no word from server I walked up to the counter and ask about the Passion Fruit. His response: "What passion fruit? We probably don't have the stuff make that." Me: "Really?!?, it's been twenty minutes and you're just now discovering that?" Him: "Let me check." After thirty minutes from our order placement we noticed all the other Asian Groups that had received their food, mostly ordered after us and we still hadn't receive our appetizer, water, Passion Fruit drink, or any communication from the server. We left cash for the Coconut Water and walked out. Because of poor service we will never know how the food tastes. read more

My husband and I go to this place at least 3-5 times a month. The food is incredibly tasty and healthy. (Get the #8 -it's a wonderfully filling and delicious spicy soup) Lately, we've been getting food to take home with us. The bahn mi is wonderful, and quite a bargain at $2.95. Don, the owner/chef, also sells steam buns that his mother makes. You have to buy them in increments of 10, and they're kept in the back, so ask about them. (Note: These aren't always available -- it depends on whether he's sold out or if his mom has had time to make them.) We buy 10, keep 2 in the fridge and freeze the rest. He also does a version of chicken fingers using marinated tofu that I'm a wee bit addicted to. These are in the cooler by the cash register. There are lots of treasures in the cooler -- ask Don about them! I heartily recommend D'Vegan, even if you're a carnivore. read more
