Aaaahhh I hate to write this review but Da Nico did not live up to my expectations :(. Our party of 8 came in on a nice snowy day. There's a lot of seating in the back, and despite the weather, the restaurant filled up quickly. - Eggplant Parmesan, (3/5): to me, tasted like parmigiana from a cafeteria. A bit mushy, and came out warm, not hot. - Shrimp Linguine, (3/5): the pasta was cooked al dente to perfection. Tbh idk what traditional shrimp linguine should taste like, but this was very very salty and seafood forward (to a fault). I appreciated that there were lots of shrimps, but that's about it - Shrimp Linguine with Pesto, (3.5/5): I like this slightly better. typically not eaten with pesto, but it really mellowed out an almost spoiled seafood taste... Nothing beats Mulberry street in the winter, with Christmas signs lining the streets of Little Italy, snow flurries fluttering down on the streets and warm, open-fire pizza ovens beckoning you inside. Da Nico strategically places two pizza-ovens facing the doorway, luring in customers. Oddly enough, the "bar" in front of the ovens is purely for food and drink prep, and there are no barstools or drinks served there. Coming on a Saturday night, the host graciously granted a last second table with no reservation, and it could not have been a better experience. Our server was professional and friendly. Service overall was a little slow during our meal, but I think it may have been because our waiter was by himself (with support from the bus staff). As a result, our lunch ended up being stretched a little longer than desired. The tables outside are smaller and all filled since it was nice out. Pricing is fair. Big menu and there are "specials". Service was good enough and as folks were attentive and water glasses were filled regularly. Food was hit or miss depending on the items. Spaghetti and meatballs and the Fried Calamari was the best. The clams with white sauce and linguine was a big salty. The rigatoni vodka was a bit bland. The veal chop special was good but expensive $72. Pizza was OK no undercarriage. Da Nico is a classic Italian American restaurant in Little Italy that my coworkers introduced me to last year. Although I would not recommend getting Italian food in this area in general because of the tourist trap factors, I do think Da Nico is one of the best ones. The service has always been great and you definitely get a lot out of your experience if you've got that real New York attitude about you (or if you appreciate receiving it). Da Nico is also a favorite of some of the Soprano actors and I actually got to meet Bobby Bacala one time which was amazing. For food, I always get the baked clams and the chicken Parm. Came here for dinner after seeing the "Sopranos" sign--I'm a big fan of the series, so it caught my attention. We were warmly greeted by the hostess upon arrival, but unfortunately, the rest of the waitstaff seemed indifferent, almost like our presence was an inconvenience. I had not been here in many years but I knew it would be good. There was plenty of parking outside on the street. We were seated right away in the back in the dining room. We were presented with menus and our waiter came back to take our drink orders and answered questions we had about the menu and presented the specials. The seating inside is a little squished, but if you can get a spot outside, it has an adorable vibe. The servers always have a great personality and interact with you to make you feel important. They often crack jokes and make you feel as if you're eating at a restaurant in the real Italy. The prices are decent enough, but it's definitely a place to if you're feeling like you want to treat yourself.
