Da Toscano is in a bit of an odd location, nestled between MacDougal and Sixth. If you've never been in the area, it's not going to pop out at you (and you might feel like you've gone down a back alley). But I'd definitely recommend it. It's a small space, but I never felt crowded or cramped. The volume is not too loud and it feels intimate. I could listen to a pretty sweet 70's-80's playlist on low volume or the chatter of the group on the other side table. The service was very professional, knew their menu, and the recommendations were appreciated. As an example, when I asked about a couple of different pasta dishes the server let me know that one of them was a smaller portion (the Tortellini) so I might want to adjust my app if I liked that dish. He was very nice, I wish I got his name so I could give him a shoutout. Atmosphere: It's formal-relaxed. Think like "date night" or "meeting up with friends". I don't think I'd bring a young child, but I definitely think it was a good place if you're bringing someone over 10. I don't know if there's a kid's menu though. Service was also quick on refills of water, and I was in and out [with two courses] in only about an hour. Drink: Shirley Temple ($8). I wasn't feeling Boozy today (although, some of the drinks they were mixing looked delicious), so I got this. Sometimes these drinks border on being too sweet, this one did not. It was citrusy and actually had a slight bite to it. It was a very nice complement to the rest of the meal and I nursed it throughout the whole meal with some tap water. App: Poplette [Meatballs] (x2, $12): The meatballs were very good, and while there are other apps I might want to try I think I'd stick to this (and as a plus, it's cheap.) I made the decision to go for 2 instead of 1 because of my pasta, and I think it was the right decision. The portion is probably 1/person if getting another app, 2/person if your only app, and 3 if you're a bit hungry and want to start your meal early. The meatballs were soft and had a really nice flavor to them. Whatever spices were used were very appealing. A word of warning is that are so moist that they do crumple a bit, so they did get to be a little hard to stick on the fork when cut. The tomato sauce used with it really helped out the dish. Slightly spiced and acidic, provided a good counter to the meat. The cheese used was a nice note at the end. Overall, I'd be interested in the other apps but I'd definitely order it again. Main: Tortellini ($26): I wanted to try something a bit more out there than usual, so I went with the Tortellini because I saw Hazelnut and Balsamic. Usually, those would be in a dessert course! I think that the note about the portion being a bit smaller was a good disclaimer, and one I'll make here. If you do end up getting this dish, I'd suggest an app as well. It was actually quite filling, but I don't think that sans meatballs that would have been the case. Next time I make pasta at home, I'm going to try to use a balsamic glaze. I'd never thought to do so, but it was a delicious sauce. The pasta itself was very well cooked and had a slight bite. It maintained the structural integrity well, even as time went on. The cheese was good, slightly heartier which helped because of the sweeter accents on the outside. It reminded me of blintz cheese in texture, but less sweet. The hazelnuts were very good when finely crushed and provided some nice flavor and crunch. Very nice, light dish and one that I might try my own hand at. I would have done dessert (cheesecake), but I had filled up by the time I'd gotten the menu. Overall, I'd give this place a great recommendation. It's a bit hard to find, but it's on the same level as a lot of other higher-price options in Soho and the West Village. The pasta is unique and the atmosphere is great, so if you want something other than a Chicken Parm before hitting up a nightclub or comedy show in the Village this might be the place for you. read more

Um, why haven't I come here until now?! My boyfriend and I celebrated an anniversary here on a Friday evening and couldn't have had a better experience. With exceptional service, we were greeted with two glasses of champagne and friendly congratulations. To start, we ordered a bottle of red and their new funghi misti bruschetta. OMG - please get this! With a butternut squash fall twist, the mushrooms, ricotta, and crispy sage, I could have ordered four. To follow, we shared the pappardelle and veal parmesan. The veal was a hefty portion for two people and the pappardelle was rich with flavor. My ONLY complaint about the meal would be to go a little lighter on the salt for the pasta. To top off the meal, we ordered their creamy cheesecake and espresso martinis. If you like a rich espresso martini with cream, this one was fabulous. Top tier dining experience across the board. From the cocktail program to the service and the food, nothing came up short.

We started out with the focaccia and roasted oysters which were both very tasty. Next we ordered the lamb back agnolotti, the orecchiette, and the gnocchi with fermented crab. The agnolotti was incredible. I enjoyed the orecchiette as well. The gnocchi was my least favorite dish of the night. It had a very pungent almost artificial lemon flair that was very overpowering, I couldn't taste anything but that and tomato sauce. We moved onto the lobster and bone marrow crusted beef rib which I thought was delicious, though very difficult to eat off the bone, especially when trying to share the dish. We decided to try one more pasta dish since we didn't enjoy the gnocchi so we ordered the mezzelune. It was a little too sweet for my taste but since it was our dessert, it was okay. read more

This is an overpriced tourist trap with some of the worst Italian food I've ever had in my life. The artichoke was literally from a can, and tasted worst than the ingredient. The oysters, which people seem to rave about, reminded me of a Buffalo wing. All the food was insanely salty, including the pasta which I thought would be impossible to mess up. Wrong! You can eat at TGIFridays for 1/3 of the price, and have a similar experience. I wish I could make another yelp account just to outweigh the people who give this restaurant more than 1 star. read more

The menu is not very descriptive but this was not a problem. The waiter, Chris, was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed consulting with him on what we would enjoy most. Luca, the Italian sommelier, also regaled us with history of European wine regions. You'll find some real gems on the wine list. The only thing I didn't love was the cocktail menu, but that won't stop me from returning. The after dinner espresso martini was very special. And don't skip dessert! Service: Impeccable Staff: Welcoming Location: Hot Spot- Greenwich Village- near great bars-several live music venues just around the corner This restaurant used to be a neighborhood gem known as Perla. I was made aware of this fairly quickly while sitting at the bar of Da Toscano's one night watching the new staff preparing for their opening. Several locals, who obviously had been big fans of Perla, kept strolling in curiously asking if Perla was re-opening. They all seemed to be very happy to hear that the same chef of Perla- Michael Da Toscano- was back in New York opening a new restaurant in the same exact location of Perla. Michael and his wife-Caitlin-are the owners of Da Toscano on 24 Minetta Lane. I had the pleasure of dining at Da Toscano's twice during their opening week and was very pleased from beginning to end- thus the reason for this long winded review. A loyal neighborhood fan of Perla happened to sit next to me at the bar one of the nights. He was an older and friendly gentleman who enjoyed his night reminiscing and talking about the food and ambiance of Michael's former restaurant- Perla. I asked him if he thought Da Toscano had the same great vibe that he remembered Perla having...he said, "I loved Perla..but I think this place is even better now." He sipped on his cocktail and said, " This is the most delicious Negroni I have ever had." As far as the food...here are my recommendations based on both nights I was there.... Polpette (pork meatball): Super savory and the tomato sauce it is served in is perfection- this is how real Italian meatballs and tomato sauce should taste- ALWAYS!!... but you may want to order more than one polpette...they are that tasty. The porchetta chop: Looks great when served and tastes even better going down...the chef managed to make the outer pork skin so good and perfectly crispy- SOOOO YUMMY!!!!! Lasagne: Nice serving size with the top lightly charred...simple with just the right amount of sauce - perfection on a plate. Octopus Carpaccio: I personally prefer a nice chunky piece of grilled octopus - but this carpaccio style octopus hit the spot that night. Kudos to the bartenders- Tara-Michelle-Sabrina and Jonathan. This bar staff has really done a fantastic job with their cocktail menu. Try the Alpine Slide or the Fiore dell'amore- you wont be disappointed! They are both a little taste of heaven on earth in a glass. If you are into some something more bubbly- try the Deutz champagne. I'm looking forward to returning to work my way down the rest of their cocktail menu. The general manager- Zach- is very welcoming... you can tell he is a total pro with how he treats his guests and works the floor. The cherry on top of this all...going to a restaurant with a friendly and non-pretentious sommelier on staff to help you with the food and wine pairing- for those of us who need the help-ask for Madeline (Maddy). Zach and Madeline are a dynamic duo- watch out for these two charmers- they are aces. It's just a matter of time before the DT team knocks it out of the park. We liked this place a lot. The food and general feel of the place make it feel like a special occasion restaurant, but not the kind you have to get too dressed up for. The menu leans heavy on appetizers and pastas, with just four meat/fish entrees. Portion sizes for the pastas are sensible enough that a sufficiently hungry person could probably have one as a primo course before proceeding to a meat or fish secondo. However, there were too many appetizers we wanted to try, so we turned it into a small plates meal of four appetizers and pasta, split between two people. The waitstaff didn't seem too surprised by this, so I'm guessing this is not an uncommon way to eat here. Here's what we ended up with: - Octopus carpaccio: Might look like an Instagram gimmick, but this was actually delicious. We loved the slow-roasted cherry tomatoes, particularly with the house-made focaccia they brought out. - Roasted oysters with crab fat and chili vinegar: Also delicious (how could it not be), but as is often the case when I eat an oyster with a bunch of stuff on it, I found myself wondering whether the oyster was really improved by having a bunch of stuff on it. - Little gem salad with endives walnuts, provolone, and sherry vinaigrette: we'd had a somewhat similar salad at Cervo's the previous night, and couldn't quite decide at the time which version we liked better. In the week since then, my dining companion has tried to recreate the Da Toscano version of the salad twice, and the Cervo's version zero times, so I guess that answers that question. - Braised leeks with Calabrian chili, hedgehog mushrooms, and confit garlic. We love all of these ingredients, but didn't love the finished dish as much as we thought we would. What we had in mind was a bit more tender and caramelized than the 4-5 meticulously-plated cross-sectional pieces of mushroom-topped leek we ended up with. We still enjoyed it, but there are other things on the menu we'd rather order next time. - Agnolotti with lamb neck and drippings: Might have been my favorite dish. Even after all this food, I could have probably put away a whole plate of these on my own. We were also tempted by the Quinto Quarto (offal) section of the menu, but that'll have to wait till next time. The cocktail menu is heavy on amari and fortified wine; I went with a Negroni-like Toscano Bianco. There's also a good selection of wines by glass and bottle; the waitstaff recommended a nice Trebbiano for my companion. All told, this came to $66 per person, including drinks, tax, and tip. That's not a bad deal for a place like this. read more

Went to Da Toscano on a Sunday. 06/05/22 Excellent experience from start to finish. Started with cocktails - That's Honeybush, Baby! And the Sail Away, Sail Away. We wound up getting a second round. Got appetizers and kept ordering more dishes as we went along because everything was so delicious. Finished with entrees and got a nice bottle of a 2009 Italian red wine. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Da Toscano. The restaurant is super cute, cozy vibes and easy to find. Here's a breakdown of what me and my friend had: Appetizers: Polpette - this was DELISH! However, one meatball?? Unacceptable! This needs to be at least 3 minimum! Octopus Carpaccio - so pretty to look at and tastes even better. The pickled eggplant is a nice touch as well. Main Course: Oricchiette - this was very good. Had a nice spicy kick to it. Not too much pasta where you felt overwhelmed. Just right portion. Lasagne - Sounds simple enough but this was definitely one of the best Lasagne entrees I've ever tasted. Again, it wasn't too overwhelming but HUGE on flavor! I don't take the time to post reviews usually. However, in this case, I want to leave a review! First, the food was absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was delicious. There were also some exotic / interesting dishes that my friends and I had not had before - and it was amaaazing (we felt daring), it ended up being tasty and as really really good. Ambiance: the place is small and cozy - sometimes gets a little louder when very busy - either way - it's a feel-good time. Great lighting, great staff from the min you walk into the store. It's just a great spot with yumm Michelin star food. Service: Above and Beyond. Great. After the restaurant, I got home and realized I had lost my diamond bracelet. I called Uber, my friends, and then finally thought to call the restaurant. I have never had an experience this great and so kind. The manager (I think her name was Michelle) was empathetic and said, "Omg, I'm so happy you called. It's right here! She said she'd put it in the safe for me. It was in the safe for 3 days before I was able to get there to pick it up. The place was hopping when i finally was back there , but I was treated with patience and kindness (and no frustration or annoyance after a few ph calls ..). I'm wowed by the whole place and the guy that went downstairs to the safe, so professional and sweet. The place smelled sooo good, and the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked scrumptious. It would have been absolutely great if I could just sit down and eat, but it was completely full. I can't wait to go back with my friends and with my family! This place raises the bar for other restaurants. The food is spectacular. The cocktails are beautiful, imaginative and tasty. The servers and hosts are responsive and kind. Highlights include the "la violette" cocktail, the roasted oysters, the pb&j bombolone, the salad (the salad! You know it's a good place when even the salad is a highlight), the pork chop and the tortellini. Everything we had from all over the menu was good. I don't think you can go wrong here. Da Toscano is one of the more unique Italian restaurants I've been to in the West Village. Almost everything on the menu was something I hadn't seen before. I had the focaccia and meatballs to start. Both of which were phenomenal. The pastas we had were good, but definitely not the best in town. The agnolotti wasn't my favorite, but we really enjoyed the orecchiette and the garganelli verde. I wasn't the biggest fan of the broccoli rabe side. Overall I enjoyed my experience here and thought it was a decent spot to start visiting more often. read more

The creativity in the dishes and the warm ambiance set this place apart from all the rest. We started with warm rosemary focaccia, which was soft yet had a pleasing crunch in the crust. Alone, it was perfect, but with Taleggio butter, was off the charts. This was a hint of what was to come... My oysters with crab fat butter took Umami to a whole new level. Thank goodness the order was for half a dozen. My husband had the Octopus Carpacio, a generous serving that looked like an exquisite marble pattern. It was tender and beautifully complemented by the pickled eggplant. Braised artichokes were the ultimate comfort food. I loved the little tang that came with it, which offset the richness of the parmesan. Hubby ordered Agnolotti with lamb neck. It was full of flavor and the pasta had a lovely, pillowy texture. My Pappardelle with duck ragu was insane. There were so many levels of flavor, I lost count. The shaved foie gras on top carried it over to the other side! Sauce was silky; I ended up sopping every last bit with a piece of bread. The wines by the glass (we had the Vermentino, followed by Chianti) were very good. Next time we'll try dessert if we can save some room. I want to note how good the service was. Staff was attentive, even with a packed dining room, enthusiastic, and friendly. Finding an exceptional restaurant can sometimes be difficult, even in New York City. How fortunate we were that we chose da Toscano on Minetta Lane, the former home of La Boheme. Starting with the friendly greeting by our well informed waitress Jenna, the talented chef Will, and the ever pleasant general manager Michelle, we enjoyed a meal that pleased everyone's palate. Each dish served was not only beautifully presented, but delicious in taste, served in timely fashion, and quite plentiful. My appetizer was the prosciutto di Parma which was exceptionally fresh with a hint of Asian pear and my entree was the scialatelli in a light sauce with freshly shucked clams. Both were quite satisfying. The homemade desserts are also not to be missed. A few of the other dishes ordered are also pictured here.
