My appointment was at 3:15pm and wasn't seen until 4pm. I had to keep checking with the people upfront and they kept saying "almost done". While I was excited to get my haircut since this place was recommended by many. I was terribly disappointed. I showed the stylist the hair that I wanted and when it was done, my hair did not look like the picture I showed. Very very disappointed. I also told him to not cut any shorter and just add layers. This salon is a clusterfuc. I came here with my husband so we could both get some work done, but it must have been the wrong day. The cafe was closed, and there was nothing relaxing about the spa. It felt like an international Airport on a busy day, where you cant get service or find a place to sit...and forget a kind word like, "hello, or aloha." And if you want a mani or pedi, you have to book at another salon that rents space inside this one. What?? Yep, you read that right. Kudos, I guess, to whoever thought of that, but in my opinion it just made me feel like an asshole when, after asking for a pedicure,I was told with disdain that, "we don't do that here." ...but in fact they do, but as another salon. Not my cup of tea, either of these places. It is clear that unless you have 'aina working here, or are bff with a hairdresser, your experience will be that of a busy day and less of the slow down and relaxing experience that I prefer when paying for grooming. She also is always studying and researching new and upcoming Korean techniques to bring back to the salon. I see her a few times a year and always love the results - my skin is glowing after each treatment. She always does an assessment before starting each treatment to see if there are any skin concerns that you have and to recommend anything additional before stating the service. She cut my hair before my first day of law school orientation and before graduation where I was one of the class speakers. I like to think I get ahead in life because I have a good head on my shoulders, but I think the secret is a great hair cut from Emily. It's taken me decades to settle down with one hair stylist. While I met some great people, I've struggled with personal hair care over the years as my career changes and hair habits became more routine with the hair bun requirement at work. Bailey herself is amazing. This review is not about her. The head spa service itself, I could not justify paying $120.. not even $60 for. The washing/conditioning/hair mask was standard, like when you go in to wash your hair after a cut/color. Nothing special, you get maybe 5 mins more of neck/shoulder massage? The whole wash was 20 mins max, the blow drying took longer. You are not in a separate room, its a community room. People are walking in and out with the door open and light coming in. Half way through my wash, I think a worker barged in, door left open, lights turned on, and was washing her hair, face, & brushing her teeth? And spitting up making loud noises and breathing hard the whole time, and she was across of me. This was not relaxing at all. Bailey was trying to make it relaxing and I noticed once that rude worker left, she quickly got up to close the lights again & shut the door. Unfortunately my 1st time experience here was underwhelming. I had booked the head spa treatment after seeing the advertisements on my IG feed. Then as I looked through their official IG page, I decided to also book a hair cut. I think what set the mood was that my stylist was 15 minutes late. (I just read through other reviews and it looks like punctuality is an issue here). When I checked in 5 minutes prior to my appointment, I was told at the front desk that she was late about 5-10 minutes so I waited in the lounge area. Normally my previous stylist at another salon would give me a heads up and call/text me if she was going to be late. I appreciated that so that I could time myself also. After, my stylist introduced herself and went over the head spa details. At first she explained that I could add on a Kérastase mask or a more pricier Milbon treatment. I asked if the head spa already comes with a mask which she then realized her mistake in the explanation about adding on the Kerastase mask. I replied that since it was my first time getting the head spa I'll stick to the basic treatment and complimentary hair mask to see how it is. I was then taken to the robe room to change and then walked towards the back to the head spa room. There were several stations but fortunately I was the only one there at that moment. I don't know how long the actual treatment is supposed to be. I read some saying it's 45 minutes but mines probably took no more than 30 minutes. Sad to say the massage was not great nor relaxing. Also, my stylist was wearing bracelets which would clank against each other making it a not so relaxing environment. Another issue was that she forgot to tell me to unbutton the top of my rob for the neck and shoulder massage. So while my hair was already wet, which meant I couldn't sit up, I had to struggle to remove the top of my robe all while laying down. My hair cut itself was average. I had to speak up and let her know that I did need more inches cut off because my hair's layers didn't look good after being blow dried. The end result was better this time. Another thing that I didn't care for is upon paying, you have tell them the dollar amount or percentage of tip you'd like to add. I would prefer writing it on the receipt or selecting it on the screen. I'm pretty bummed that my experience wasn't as pleasant as I anticipated it to be. I really wanted to like this place and make it my new salon. It is a huge space with basically every self care treatment you'd want under once roof, making it very convenient. I knew I wanted a Head Spa for my birthday but wasn't sure where to go to at first. Then some friends let me know that Dada was a good place to go to. So I booked one for myself for my "pre" birthday gift to myself. My "pre"birthday gift: I arrived 5 minutes late and apologize to the receptionist because the elevator had traffic from a convention that was happening. Then waited about 20 more minutes for the hairstylist. Hairstylist apologize but she took me in the back. Gave me a robe to wear over my clothes, then took me in the back and lay me down to start the head-spa. Not even sure what product was used for my hair. I don't think I was in the room that long. When I woke up, I saw that it was only 20 minutes. Once done, took me to a seat to blow try my hair and then took the robe from me. I was there only for 45 minutes long. And when I got to the reception, I had to pay $120 for the spa. Overall, I did not think that was worth the $120 plus tip because that was QUICK and it felt RUSH. At first I was not sure why everyone recommended me this place and I was about to give this review a bad review BUT my good friend surprised me and I told her at the front of the salon that I came a few days ago for a head spa. She wasn't happy with me but when I told her my experience, she let me know that she didn't think it would happen again because the person she got me was someone else. Here is how it went: My "surprise" birthday gift: They knew it was my birthday (thanks for my friend lmao) and Branson came out to greet me and my friend. He was on time and let us know to went a few minutes as he was waiting for another lady name Paige. While waiting, Branson took me to get a hair mask and asked me what kind of hair I have. He showed me a product he was going to use on my hair, took us to the robe room and let us know that we can take off our shirt and put the robe over us or just put the robe over our shirt. Once we were done changing, took us to the room and he did an AMAZING job on the head-spa. Really went in the scalp! Did amazing on the massages too. Once out of the room, I saw my friend and she was almost done. From there I knew the head spa I got was WAY worth it compare the the other one. Branson dried my hair and gave me lose waves, which I loved!! Once done he took me back to the robe room to get changed. If you ever going to get a head-spa, go to Branson. My hair was so soft after the kerastase treatment he gave me and he curled it in loose, beachy waves after washing it. I've never had a head spa before and Dada salon is KNOWN for it. This review is strictly for "The Cafe at Dada" (not the salon or spa part). We recently did a staycation at the Ala Moana Hotel. If inside the hotel, you take the elevators to the left of the front desk to the 3rd floor. The cafe is opposite of the pool and fitness areas. Sooo, we were hangry but feeling super duper lazy to go far to get food. We couldn't attend the happy hour (starts at 4:30PM) at the other bougie penthouse restaurant (The Signature Prime Steak & Seafood, 36th floor) in this hotel. We didn't bring bougie clothes to meet dress code. Then in the room there was a advertisement for this restaurant. So I called to see if they were offering dine in, yes. And if it was busy or if there was a wait time for a table, no. Score! We headed in and it was a cute little cafe. The staff checked to make sure we had our COVID vaccination cards. Then we chose a table and sat down. There were a few tables spaced out. With terrariums created by a local artist on every table. The menu was on a piece of paper which was hygienic. On it under the name of the cafe, it mentioned that the cafe theme is "a European Brasserie". According to Wikipedia, "In France, Flanders, and the Francophone world, a brasserie (pronounced [bas.i]) is a type of French restaurant with a relaxed setting, which serves single dishes and other meals. The word brasserie is also French for "brewery" and, by extension, "the brewing business". A brasserie can be expected to have professional service, printed menus, and, traditionally, white linen--unlike a bistro which may have none of these. Typically, a brasserie is open Wednesday to Sunday and serves the same menu all day. A good example of a brasserie dish is steak frites." (IDK why but when I see that word, I keep thinking 'brassiere/ brassière' for bra, LOL XD) This cafe is a bit on the pricier side but that's what you get when you dine in an salon/hotel eatery. We opted for a round of drinks (Mimosa - white wine and OJ, Stella Rosa Peach - sparkling wine) and entrees. Our entrees came with complimentary salad and soup appys. The salad consisted of some mixed greens with a vinaigrette dressing (I think, low key forgot ;) and the soup was curry flavored with some brown rice in it. The server introduced the soup to us but I didn't catch the name. Not too sure if you could opt for a different dressing for the salad. Something small to munch on while you wait for your food. Something about the cold salad and hot soup, made my appetite all warm and fuzzy, haha. We could hear the chef cooking our entrees and the whole place smelled sooo good. It's small enough for a more personal experience. I liked that the entrees had flags next to them on the menu to represent the country of origin the dish is from. Cute and contributes to me learning new things ;D The entrees were GIGANTIC! Very freshly made and delicious. I had wanted the Linguine Shrimp but they were out of skrimps (sad face :c). So I got the 'Chicken Parmesan' on recommendation from the server. That was tasty and the chicken piece was big! I liked the little mountain of grated parmesan cheese on top. I was super full! A nice and well rounded meal. The server also recommended the Boneless Short Rib. Dude got the 'Gourmet Meat Loaf'. He said it was yummy and it was plated with all the colorful vegetables. My sister arranged for me to have my hair cut by Ritchie. Dada is on the third floor of the Ala Moana Hotel. I was greeted and checked in at the front desk, then asked to wait in the waiting area for a minute before an assistant came to get me. I was escorted to a chair, given a cover up, and then we walked to the lay flat shampoo bowls where I got to relax with a nice shampoo and head massage during the conditioning. When we were done, we went back to the chair where Ritchie spent time talking with me about what I wanted. Throughout the haircut we had pleasant conversation and he talked me through the cut making sure I was comfortable and understood what he was doing with my hair. First time at Dada after trying to get into this salon multiple times. So happy I found Phree , she did an AMAZING job! She was so sweet, knowledgeable and very transparent about the pricing and options for my hair. Years ago at a different salon I had a super negative experience that basically costed me like $900. Since then I've only done a yearly trim because I was so scarred. I was happy to meet Phree because she made me feel comfortable to finally try something different! She cut my hair and gave it some texture she also did a ombré and framed my face with highlights. I love that it's soft and subtle. It's the perfect sun kissed look for the summer! I was so lucky to get an appointment with David Wong! Due to his humility, you'd never know that he is a stylist that clients fly in to see and stalk from salon to salon. I cannot over exaggerate the thickness and challenge that my hair presents. Weaker stylists have trembled in its wake - but David has tamed the Beast time and again. Not only tamed, but transformed it into exactly what I hoped for every single time. Most recently he spent all day giving me long, sexy locks that best match my hair texture. Let me tell you- the hair is magic! I walked out feeling years younger and sexier than my 49 years. I'd much rather spend my money on something that enhances my entire look vs on purses, shoes, or other indulgences that get put in the closet. I get to take this hair to bed, to the beach...everywhere I go. I'm going to be a little tongue in cheek here -but I'm telling you ladies- I went to the airport the next day and my bag was 4 pounds over but the attendant let me slide. I checked into my hotel and the desk clerk hooked me up with a fridge, tea kettle, coffee maker, and every treat he could find for me to have in room. Coincidence? I think not ;-) I texted pics of my extensions to all my friends and they love them. In fact most now want a version for themselves. There's no shame in my game. I've never received services from Dada Spa prior to my visit last week. When I inquired, they were able to squeeze me in with Ronny. I loved Ronny! His professionalism, interest in what I was wanted, and recommendations was great. At my last hair appointment at another salon, I had a great stylist who cut off my shoulder-length hair but didn't give me the pixie I wanted because my hair is thinning and she was concerned it would be too sparse. When Ronny did my trim, he did the tightened inverted bob style I desired and it looks great! I recommend Ronny to anyone! read more

This review is specifically for the stylist, Phree, and has nothing to reflect on the salon itself. I booked a root retouch with Phree through their online reservation system for next week at 7 pm. She emailed me the next day explaining that her last session is at 3 pm and for me to rebook a different time. I told her I can only do that specific day as I am flying out soon. She tried to accommodate me by having me come in at 4:30 pm. She asked me basic questions about what type of root touch-up I needed but did not ask for any pictures at all (should have been a red flag). On the day of my appointment, she emailed me around 4 pm if she can push me back to 5 pm, but at that time I was already in the Uber. I emailed her back right away explaining that, yet when she approached me in the waiting area, she gave me attitude about not seeing her email lol. The whole interaction was uncomfortable, to be honest. I don't expect every stylist to be friendly, but at least polite? She was feeling my hair and saying how she doesn't think she can take me as my hair will take too long and she wants to get out by 8 pm. I found it a bit insulting when she was criticizing my stylist's work, saying there's still yellow in my hair (I haven't toned my plat hair since coming to Hawaii, obviously it's going to be a bit yellow??). I explained that my usual root touch up appointments range 2-3 hours and my hair only lifts with one try. I was getting cold feet doing my hair with her due to her lack of confidence and poor attitude. I was texting my own hairstylist from home, and she told me to leave as she was worried that my hair will get messed up. It just seemed like Phree wanted to get it over with, and my hair is too precious for that! She said she will ask if another stylist with more experience can take me and that was the last interaction I had with her. Another stylist came to talk to me and was super friendly and extremely apologetic about the whole ordeal, saying how Phree should have asked for help earlier since all the stylists are busy now. She was willing to help me with my hair, but on a different day, which is impossible for me. At that point, I had to cut my losses and leave. I wasted $40 total on Ubering back and forth for an incompetent stylist who completely wasted my time. The front desk girl and other stylist were very nice, and I don't want this review to reflect badly on them. Just extremely disappointed in the level of care from Phree. She emailed me an apology a couple hours after that seemed like she was forced/rushed to write it (misspelling my name and spelling errors). I wouldn't bother with booking again. read more

It's right behind the Walmart in town. They have a parking attendant who takes your car and your hairdresser should validate your ticket for you. The center has restaurants and bakeries. Love love love this salon. I go in to see Joy F (however at the time I'm writing this review, I believe she moved over to their second location that they opened up recently). She is amazing with my hair and I've never been disappointed. She has great style, is honest with me about what might or might not work for me, and if easy to talk to. I'm not sure what the other stylists are like, but everyone there seems to be friendly and professional when I go. As I sit there getting my hair done, I'm always impressed with how others look when they're done. I've been to DaDa Salon for a keratin treatment (with a stylist whose name I forget, but she was great!) and men's haircuts with Emily a few times, and all three experiences were fantastic! The staff I've encountered are friendly, and the overall vibe is very chill and laid-back. Emily is excellent at what she does. I hadn't had a haircut I really liked in a while, and she helped me figure out a style that works well for me. Plus, she includes a wash and ensures you leave her chair knowing how to properly style and care for your hair. Highly recommend! read more

I've been a client of DADA's Jefalyn for years, and when I tell you she NEVER disappoints...I mean it with all of my heart lol. She is the first and only person who's worked on my hair (color wise), so she had my hair virgin as can be in the beginning since 2018! From that first session, she's been doing amazing work on my hair, and I feel like a brand new chick every time I leave the salon. Love my hair every.single.time!!! I get so many compliments from my own patients at work, I swear I don't know how many times I've referred DADA salon & Jefalyn because my patients have asked who/where I go to do my hair! Trying to find an affordable, reliable, and trusting hairstylist is hard to find. I looked at the reviews on Dada and asked Tracy K. about her thoughts about the facility and Trisha. I thought I'd try it out! I'm always willing to try something new especially when it comes from a reliable source :) Thanks, Tracy K.! IMO - The salon is placed in the perfect place, especially with the upcoming high rises and new businesses. Dada Salon is located in the 808 Center behind Walmart and near HMSA. Valet is the only parking available at 808 Center. Otherwise, you can find street parking. The clerk told me that I can park at Walmart, but that can be iffy especially if the security comes around. Like Tracy K.'s post, the car elevator is one of a kind. It's very cool to watch your car enter and exit. I was watching the valet (who was very helpful and patient with me) and each car got a ticket code. Just a few digits and poof! your car is inside safe and sound. Dada stylist covers the parking fee but, with an valet service, tipping is up to you. Dada is located on the third floor - on the left side from the elevator and stairs. Restrooms are located near the elevators and Dada supplies the fob keys. The salon has a variety of products and during the holiday season, they had sales and clearances on a few items. I purchased the Shu Uemura set - wonder worker and texture wave. I'm very happy with the products and highly recommend it!! Lots of staff and stations. A nice shampoo area - can fit more than 5 clients comfortably. The seats one of a kind as well - very comfortable. The art work on the wall is very modern and easy to look at - very interesting some of the work. The salon is clean and the staff are very professional. I will be coming back soon!! read more

The bistro called Da Da is located on the third floor at Alamoana hotel. I had a gourmet meatloaf with shallow mushrooms onions and vegetables. His meatloaf was amazing. The chef came out to say hello shared a couple of secrets in the kitchen it was kind to speak with. The food was so good and I try to eat here a few more times before I leave. read more
