Looking forward to breakfast around 6pm with as weird as I am only to find they stopped that at 11am. Given it was a diner I thought they'd have that available at anytime. Regardless I ordered lunch tacos which I find to be not only dry but not filling at all. I was told a ranch salad comes with only to find lettuce and I kid you not, a DAB of ranch. With already being kinda upset but still understanding I ordered two donuts because it was national donut day. I was then also disappointed when I receive the smallest and saddest little donuts. Regardless the donuts still tasted good but even $.88 is worth what those were. Not my happiest experience, but I've eaten there before and had a great experience. I had an excellent lunch at this restaurant yesterday, Thursday. It was just a cold roast beef sandwich with onion, but it really hit the spot. It came with potato chips and a generous helping of them. The staff is very friendly. I will definitely go to this restaurant again. read more

We stopped here on the way back to Chicago to have a breakfast. The place is cozy however a bit pricey. Breakfast was good but mostly average. It was unusual for us that we had to order the hash browns separately as a side usually it comes together with the omelette .. also the doughnuts were fine but not a big deal. I was so hungry when we got there and we had to wait at least 15min until the waitress took our order in fact I had to call them to our table that we are ready to order ... I found it weird since the place is not big at all and wasn't even full. Overall it was a nice experience. read more

How could anyone not want to eat in an igloo? I crave all winter for their Cinnamon swirl french toast roll. The roll the Cinnamon swirl bread in sugar and it is Delicious. The wait can be long especially on bad weather weekends when people aren't boating. read more

Since the demise of Lucy's this establishment has become my new favorite diner in the Lake Geneva area. What I like best about this restaurant is that almost everything is home made. The soup selection is not extensive but what they have is home made and delicious. I had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich on wheat and i loved it. This sandwich has a specific name but I can not recall what they named it. I also loved the home made donuts. The menu and special selection is extensive and some unique items are offered. I agree that the pink pepto and light green color scheme is horrendous. The color scheme in the igloo looked like it might have been better, but I was afraid to look too closely in fear of what decorating atrocities lied in wait for me there. The food is really good here (the breakfast items, anyway - i've never had anything else) but beware of a bait and switch on the prices. Twice we've noticed the "special" has been more expensive than the same exact dish from the regular menu. And as others have said, they don't take cards, and there can be a long wait. The service is hit or miss as well - most servers are friendly, but I've witnessed the owner berating a young waitress in front of customers, which is always a turn off. read more

A mixed review. Our breakfast here last week was great but the decor and atmosphere left a little to be desired. I was surprised to see a few Christmas decorations scattered around the restaurant (in April). Also, our waitress was very good but a couple of the other waitresses seemed intent on gossiping / complaining loudly in the middle of the restaurant. In regards to the food, all five of us enjoyed our meal (I enjoyed the Bandito breakfast quesadilla). I would give the food 4 stars. Locals love the place, and it was easy to see why. This is the best breakfast in the Lake Geneva area. The portobello mushroom omelet is the best omelet of any kind I've ever had - another in our group thought the same thing. Fast & friendly service in a small diner that feels quite homey. Friday fish fry is popular - I enjoyed the grilled haddock a lot. Homemade pies and desserts looked yummy. The decor was a bit cheesy, with stuffed animals topping the window valances. The applesauce, rye bread, and potato pancakes tasted deliciously homemade. First, be sure to arrive early. Everyone was very welcoming. The staff is very attentive; you will not have to look for service. The quality is excellent and the price is right for the area. Was told about this "little gem" by a friend (you know who you are) while we were visiting from out of town. Now we went on a Sunday around 10:30ish and the wait was as expected 45mins. I enjoyed the little diner feel, and it is indeed a little noisy. I wouldn't recommend for larger groups. Food was as described, very good. The fresh warm donuts were amazing and I don't usually like donuts. The crispy bacon is perfect and the hasbrowns are cooked to a perfect crisp. Another dining with us had the patty melt and it looked really good, plus the empty plate left behind proved to show it was tasty as well. Our waitress seemed really frazzled and her lack of charm was obvious. I would defiantly return when in town but not on a Sunday. read more

I weighed out the pros and cons and decided 3 stars was appropriate. The location is convenient and the food is good although they stop serving breakfast and hour before they close. Why? no idea... They don't take credit cards and for a location that's a tourist destination spot that's a huge black mark in my opinion. Met at the counter by a young lady behind the register who clearly was either not happy about being there or with us making a take out order. Had an attitude the entire time she dealt with us. Outstanding slice of America. The atmosphere reminds of something out of "It's A Wonderful Life." Today, it is rare to find real hometown life and the cooking that goes with it. The food is great - not fussy, just wholesome good and tasty food well prepared. If you are in the Lake Geneva area, you need to visit Daddy Maxwell's. It is busy in summer, but do not let that deter you. Places like this are a rarity in today's busy world. When you go there you step back in time to a period of neighbors knowing neighbors and caring about one another. The owner Janette Maxwell has done so much good for this community on many levels of kindness too numerous to mention. We ordered the fish fry with potato pancakes togo. Everything about the experience was so so. The phone call was friendly but for some reason the employee had to verify with the kitchen whether or not we could place a togo order...? It was only 7:45pm on a Friday mind you. Anyway no biggie the order was ready on arrival then we get home and open our container and what do you know there are no lids on the condiments and sides. We had applesauce, coleslaw juice, and tartar sauce all mixed up on our food. They all stayed put for the most part but the juices and smaller tarter sauce container easily spilled out in the 5 min trip home. Needless to say we couldn't determine how the food tasted because it was soggy in spots and again covered in a variety of juices. I called to see if this is normal (being a 15 yr vet of the food service industry I assumed it was an accident) Surprisingly it is normal, they don't use lids... I'm probably going too far into this its just so strange to me that they package food together, don't use lids on the separate cups and don't give the customer a heads up to keep it level. Why even bother with the cups then? Just use a measured scoop. Kinda disappointing. Just thought some people may appreciate this. read more

I have been to Daddy Maxwell's a couple times, to visit friends who were working and such. Every time I go to this diner, the food and service is fantastic! The cooks are fast, and their food is great, the servers are quick on their feet and know the menu inside and out! However, management is quite the opposite, the manager is very unprofessional. She disrespects her employees almost on a daily basis and is quite cruel during these verbal attacks. 10/10 would recommend the food, 0/10 would not recommend talking to management. read more
