Dad's Café has got to be one of the best-kept secrets in Brentwood as far a terrific place to eat! It's not a fancy place, but it's comfortable and clean. The entire staff is great and they go out of their way to provide friendly and outstanding service. They never seem to have an off-day like so many other eating establishments. The food, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, is consistently great and it's all very reasonably priced and an outstanding value for the dollar! It's a rare find when you can dine in a place where everyone takes an immense amount of pride in what they do, regardless of their position. This is the third time I've eaten here and each time the service was good. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is nice. I ordered the hash brown blanket today and was very impressed with the size and flavor of the dish. I would recommend this dish if you're a big eater for sure. My diner experience at Dads was everything you should expect from a local eatery. I was greeted warmly by the staff and immediately seated. My waitress brought me a big hot mug of coffee and large icy glass if water. I the place is not fancy just a diner but is appeared to clean and organized. I had steak and eggs with hash browns the got the stars for the hasgbrown consistently brown and crispy throughout the entire serving. My steak was surprisingly good and prepared as requested. I've been to Dad's twice so far it and the visits were night and day apart. The first time, our waitress was friendly, knowledgeble, and prompt. I ordered the meatloaf which was very tasty. The second time, my experience was completely salted by our server. She simply did not appear to want to be there and had a very neutral attitude. We asked for a simple modification on one of our dishes and this was apparently not mentioned to the kitchen since we did not get what we ordered. I had to flag down a young man working the floor to have it changed since the young lady serving us had not been by to check in. Also, we presented a 'buy one entree/get one free' coupon when ordering, and when we received the bill, the server didn't even apply it, but stapled it to our bill. They even wrote '50% off' on the bill on a line item, but didn't deduct anything. I flagged down the young man from earlier and explained that not only was nothing deducted, but it should have been a free entree, not 50% off of one. He passed it to our original server who brought it back with 50% off of one of the entrees. I had to get up, walk it to the manager and point this out once again. My advice to Dad's in Brentwood is to train your staff and/or hire experienced servers. It seems like several members of the floor staff is young and unexperienced. Servers should be promptly checking in with newly seated patrons and check in on them once they receive their food to see if everything is alright. I really want to like this place since it offers comfort food lacking in the area at reasonable prices. I'll give it another shot in the future with hopes that they will have honed their staff and smoothed some of the rough edges. read more

I went here for a Sunday breakfast today. There was a wait of course but we were sat very quickly and had a group of 6. We were greeted right away by the server and the food came out fast. Everything looked and tasted great. I got the two egg breakfast with country potatoes and sourdough toast. We ordered from Hungertaxi and expected to have the same quality and service especially since it is a ten dollar delivery service. we ordered the California burger with fries and the chicken pesto, and the Cajun shrimp.- no option for drinks. the total came out to 50 dollars and change with added $5 for tips and sales tax and $10 for a delivery fee. we received 8 pieces of Cajun shrimp that was priced at 11.00- that's $1.37 for each piece of shrimp- you expect them to be fairly sized, but of course they were not. And the California Burger did not come with fries as ordered the Chicken Pesto came with more sun dried tomatoes than the chicken , i have no problem with being light with poultry, but please do not try to cover it up with other toppings or seasoning. overall this is the worst experience i have had with Hungertaxi it is an overall rating from my employees, so it is expected that we do not order from this establishment until we are compensated for at least the lack of fries and the outrageously small amount of shrimp. So a few weeks ago we tried Dad's Cafe. Evidently they have 2 locations and this was the second one that just opened. We stopped by for breakfast on a Saturday morning. There are two Dad's café's in the area one next to the Safeway gas station on Hillcrest and this one which we found by accident while looking for a Percos café which was supposedly in the neighborhood. Anyway we decided what the heck let's go in here. We weren't impressed with the other one but this was a remarkable step up. The service was fast efficient and friendly without being annoying and the food was fresh, hot and tasty. They serve the standard faire for a café (think Dennis or Bob's Big Boy). It's pretty hard to mess up breakfast. Not only are they out of everything like sausage links and hash browns, but everything was incredibly bland. Don't bother ordering your potatoes with onions and bell peppers, it's extra and they just cook the onions and peppers separate and toss a pile on top. Even the toast tasted like old bread. We used to love going here but in the past 6 months or so we have seen a decline in the food. The place needs to be cleaned and fixed up. Mainly it's the food that has gone downhill. Not sure if there are new cooks or what. We have gone many times to see if anything gets better only to see it's getting worse. I think we will stop going for now unless things change. Went to Dad's yesterday (Sunday) for breakfast- brunch w/ my parents. This was my 3rd visit; their 1st. We were told our wait would be 15-20 minutes and we were seated in 15. Our server, Lisa, did a great job. Friendly and over-the -top helpful. Drinks were brought promptly. I should say that I am THE MOST ANNOYING ORDERER EVER which is ironic as I worked in food industry for 20 years. I always want modifications, substitutions, etc. Lisa was great and did not bat a lash at me when I ordered: The Veggie Blanket ( usually served over eggs cooked your way) with no eggs, sub a cup of fruit on side for the eggs, serve cheese and veg blanket over the crispy hash browns (it comes with HBs), and dry wheat toast. This was one of the best breakfasts I've had in this area-- the veggies were sautéed crisp tender, hash browns were cooked exactly how I like them, everything was hot, arrived under ten minutes.I could actually taste the veggies-- they were not greasy or over salted. The portion was large. My fruit was forgotten-- I forgot all about it too-- so I asked for it to go when I remembered-- I received profuse apologies and at least a double if not triple portion boxed to go. My ice tea was filled regularly throughout meal & without asking I received a large ice tea to go at the end. Mom had the Eggs Benedict said it was good; Dad had the Dad's omlette (with meat) hash browns and side country gravy and really liked it. This is my 3rd time here. I have had a BLT in past ( good!) and last time half salad (bland iceberg) half French onion soup I could not eat as very salty( promptly replaced. I've been to both locations and have enjoyed every meal. I've tried the pulled pork sandwich, Caesar wrap, eggs with biscuit and gravy, pasta primavera, Dad's salad, and philly cheese steak. My son loves the kids chicken strips. I like how I get his meal free (M-F) when I purchase my meal. Very reasonable prices and lots of variety. Staff has always been very friendly. When I moved to Oakley - my family fell in love with going to breakfast at Dad's. We all are able to get what we want, the portions are generous and the value is great. The environment is casual and always welcoming. I look forward to their new specials - the owners are always present and welcome feedback. I actually remember a time my friend came with me for breakfast and he asked what ever happened to Potatoe Pancakes - the ones that were made from leftover mashed potatoes. The owner came out to discuss the dish..A few minutes later he came out personally and delivered three potatoe pancakes like my friend described to try. Horrible... I found PLASTIC in my food!!! first time there today I ordered pancakes bacon eggs and sausage. The food came out incredibly fast which I thought was strange. my first bite into my eggs was cold, my bacon was cold and greasy and pancakes felt microwaved, As tho they were pre made, then microwaved. Crusty and dry on top and rubbery in the middle. When the waitress asked how the food was I couldn't help myself I told her my eggs and bacon were cold and asked if all the food was cooked to order and the waitress assured us it was, yet plates were on our table with in just a few minutes of being ordered and food was too cold for just coming from the grill. The waitress offered to take my food back and bring another plate, I refused as I know it's rude to send food back, an I really didn't want more of their dissatisfying food, but I wanted the cook and owner to know I wasn't impressed with my meal. At this point I was disappointed but still intended on eating some of my meal as I'm not a picky eater. A few minutes later the waitress returned and as she was speaking to us I bit into a pancake which had a hard jagged piece of plastic in it which I immediately spit out in front of her. When I tried to show it to her she insisted it was just a piece of bacon gave us the bill and walked away. We waited for her to return but she clearly was avoiding us. I washed off the plastic chunk I had bit into and tried bending it confirming it was a piece of plastic. I took pics as well. Since the waitress never returned we took the plastic up front where we asked for our bill to be adjusted as I ate less than half my food and was leaving disgusted and still hungry. Our waitress tried saying she had offered me different food. Not understanding I didn't want more unsatisfactory food. She seemed personally offended by the fact I was not happy. Her waitressing was fine and she was nice enough about the situation, besides dodging us right after I complained there was plastic in my food. I then noticed a picture of "Dad" the owner at the front of the restaurant, then I looked behind the counter I noticed "Dad" himself cleaning up. I asked if I could speak with him and asked to have the plastic shown to him a manager said no and threw the plastic away. Not sure if "Dad" was just ignoring me or legitimately didn't see what was happening. I wasn't causing a scene but he was close enough I believe to see that there was some sort of issue going on. Our bill was reduced by $5 it cost about $33 for one person to eat plus we still tipped! Lol i didn't eat much and what I did eat I was trying to be polite and not make a fuss, but once I found plastic I was finished. I wish instead of trying to pass it off as a piece of bacon the waitress would have just owned up to the restaurants short comings, it's not her fault. I also would think if the owner is proud enough to post his picture on the walls and work in the eatery that he would be more involved with an unsatisfied customer, especially when he's less than 15 feet away. Entire experience was awful. Ordered a Raspberry Iced Tea and the Pork chops and eggs for breakfast. The tea is so overly sweetened that it tastes like pure sweetener and leaves a film in your mouth from how much sweetener they used(they definitely didn't use sugar). The country potatoes that came with the meal were all so incredibly under done that I couldn't eat any of them, the mocha I had ordered was very obviously instant mocha mixed into hot water(the rim of the cup was absolutely covered in the instant mocha mix), and the worst part of all of it was that the pork chops had absolutely no seasoning on them. When I say no seasoning I mean not even salt or pepper, looked and tasted like they were taken out of a bag in the freezer and immediately tossed on the grill until they looked done. The center was still cold, they were incredibly dry, absolutely no flavor, and it was the toughest piece of meat I've ever had. Toast was good tho. read more

Had a really nice breakfast today at Dad's. Easter Sunday and the service was great, food was enjoyable and the restaurant clean. We stayed a very long time due to a communication mishap in our family, and the wait staff didn't give us the stink eye for holding up a table so long. So I come to Dad's cafe often with my family, I really like the place, but today I was really disappointed. My wife and I had breakfast there this morning I ordered the Pork chop breakfast, my wife ordered the corn beef hash, and we ordered French toast to share. I expected more from my meal it look like it they boiled it, and then seared a little, and it tasted just like it looked. What was more disappointing was when my wife, and I were about to share the french toast only for my wife to find a hair in it. Called our waitress over so that it could be taken back, we handed it to her she looked at it, and walked away with out apologizing. What made the experience even worse was when the Owner walked the new one over he did not apologize or even ask us how everything else was, or even ask us could he do anything for us. He said here you go set it on the table and walked away as if nothing was wrong. So my wife says there probably just going to take it off our bill, and my only words to her was will see. When we got the check it was still on our bill. Don't need anyone to take care of my bill. But as a business owner myself this was unexceptionable. Recently went to eat here and waited 35 minutes for a table. 2 of the servers were annoyed with the owner's wife as she was dictating the flow of floor traffic. There were 8 tables open and instead of seating your guests, offering them coffee, water, hot chocolate, cinnamon rolls...something they just let people leave out of frustration.
