Like the concept of organic/local food paired w/wine. Online, wine suggestions were paired with entrees, but this wasn't so at the restaurant. One wine I had was good, the other wasn't fresh. I don't write many reviews but since this was my worst restaurant experience in many years I decided to write one. Overall it was a horrible dining experience. Absolutely terrible. I felt sorry for the server. He had absolutely no clue about anything. He couldn't answer simple questions about the menu, brought the wrong drinks, and made us wait 45 minutes to get them. The food was greasy and sucked. Until they change things, this place should be avoided at ALL costs. read more

Best cocktail ever: The Ginger Refresher. Spinach Salad with shaved fennel was very tasty as was the Caprese Salad with fresh strawberries and sliced peaches. An excellent pan-seared sea bass and melt-in-your- mouth short ribs with mashed potatoes. Homemade sorbets and Peach Gallette for dessert. Waiter was friendly and personable but a little uncertain about the wine list.. Gavin, the bartender, was top notch and the inventor of the above mentioned cocktail. I came here with two of my friends and had the most amazing meal! We had arranged for a 6 course taster menu, and were surprised at every turn! The creativity and perfect flavor combinations the chef uses makes it obvious that he is very skilled and knowledgeable in his job. The Daffodil was an exquisite restaurant this Valentine's Day! Firstly the service was fantastic! The employees were always polite and courteous while presenting themselves in a professional, but comfortable manner. They were prompt and timely always clearing dishes a few minutes after they were emptied, never an empty glass, and helpful with picking items suited to your taste. The cocktails had the perfect balance of fruit favor and liquor(wasn't to over powering). The first course the amuse-bouche was delicious. The watermelon, tomato, and basil complemented each other perfectly. The taste almost energized your mouth getting it ready for the other courses. The second course I had the sweet potato soup. It was creme blend not too heavy with a nice taste to it. My main course was the NY strip. It was cooked perfectly. It was so tender and juice. The broccolini had a nice lemony taste and the garlic chips had a delicious seasoning and spice to it. The dessert was great as well. The chocolate heart cake tasted great with the fruit to balance it out. I rate this restaurant a perfect score for the service and especially the quality of food! Stopped here with some friends before seeing a play nearby. They were late and I waited at the bar. I was the only person in the place. I ordered a martini which surprising came with a free appetizer! The french fries with cheddar cheese and bacon were probably the best thing I've had in a really long time. Even though I was the only person there the bartender completely ignored me, even starting the dishwasher as I was sitting there, I don't know what he could have possibly needed to wash. When my friends arrived we had our choice of tables. I ordered the seared scallops on a bed of rice pilaf with cashews. The scallops were perfectly done, even though for the price I would have liked more than 3. The pilaf was surprisingly good, they even managed to keep the cashews were crunchy. My friend had the special of the night, a tofu pasta, which was refreshing and very tasty. I will definitely be back for drinks during happy hour and the free appetizers. read more

Well, not horrible but not phenomenal either. Sauteed green beans were the best feature of the pan-seared scallops and rice pilaf. What day of the week is seafood the freshest? Not sure it's Sunday. Iced tea made with English breakfast tea, but was never refilled throughout the meal. I'll pass on Daffodil next time, sorry to say - environmentally it had so much going for it. The background music, the decor, the location - but not the most important part of being an outstanding restaurant. Two stars for courtesy and environment, and great sautéed green beans. read more

Great service, well prepared and presented food. With so many choices for restaurants in San Francisco and near the hotel, I found this a convenient alternative. Not a wide choice of entrees, but I enjoyed the short ribs and a spinach salad. The dessert was great, a fruit cobbler. The night I was there it was quiet, and I had a great conversation with the staff about San Francisco. That made it special. read more

We had breakfast. Waitress was quick with the coffee and menus after five minutes she took our order, My wife ordered Cinnamon Brioche French Toast, I ordered The Orchard Combination Breakfast " Bacon and Scrambled Eggs, hash browns, fruit and English muffin. We waited about thirty minutes before I inquired about our meal. The waitress went in the back and in three or so minutes she came back out with our meal. The French Toast (Not on brioche bread and no cinnamon) was cooked on one side and raw egg on the other. We sent it back and my wife grossed out by the raw egg opted for wheat toast. I ate a piece of my bacon and one half of my English muffin then tried the eggs. Cooked on one side and folded over the inside was liquid. My hash browns were under cooked on one side and black on the other. It was obvious to me our meal hit the grill when the waitress went in back to ask where it was. I forgot about the fruit ! One dehydrated slice of orange, one blackberry and one quarter slice of a strawberry. It should have said fruit garnish. Needless to say I had words with the manager. He was very apologetic and comped our meal if he hadn't I would have charged it to my room and insisted the hotel comp it. Props to the manager for recognizing a problem and fixing it for me and to the waitresses for trying to help. read more

I was a little disappointed to say the least. I made reservations at Daffodil for these reasons: 1. They are located in Union Sq 2. my friends from Australia were staying nearby 3. It had deceptively good reviews on Open Table 4. It was a 1,000 pt reservation on Open Table. My biggest compaint is the whole time we were there, not one other table was sat (there may have been one woman eating at the bar, and a few people who looked like guests from the hotel stopped by for drinks). Also, the decor is nice and upscale looking, but the lights were so bright, there was no ambiance at all. The food was a little on the pricey side, but t was good. American choices with a fancy twist. Anyways, I was embarrassed to have taken my Austrailian tourist friends here, because they expected me to know some cool places in SF and trust me, this did not look cool. I have learned my lesson: check Yelp reviews before Open Table. I guess the only good thing that comes of this is my 1000 pt reservation. read more

We were going to be in the neighborhood, I had a coupon, so we decided to check it out. We got there just before opening and the bartender was sort of helpful in seating us, but then left us alone for 15 minutes without getting our drink order. That and the price/portion ratio cost the last star. Otherwise it was a great meal. We started with the beer battered calamari. It is served with a jalapeno fraiche and is wonderful. Would definitely order that again. Complemented it with a half bottle of Ventana Chardonnay. Excellent wine and reasonably priced. We then shared the Risotto as an appetizer. That was probably my favorite dish of the night. My wife had the Red Wine Braised Short Ribs for her main course and loved them. I had the Chicken Pot Pie, primarily because I've never ordered it in a restaurant. It was very good. We complemented our main dishes with a bottle of Ventana Rubystone, which we knew we liked and was one of their least expensive bottles. Our server was great. She didn't bug us, but was always around if we needed her. They were not busy, so we just enjoyed the meal and took our time. All things considered, we will definitely come back. read more

Great food. It's Wed night, and the place was empty. I was a little leery walking in, since I was literally the only person in the place, but stuck it out due to decent reviews (and the steep ass hill up Powell St). I was very happy I did. I had the short ribs, which fell right off the bone. To be more accurate, I was able to lightly pull on the bone and extract it from my meat. Outstanding short ribs! I also had carrot and coconut soup, which was very good. It was empty, but service was still great. Since it's reasonably priced (especially for SF), I will definitely be returning. read more

One word, AMAZING!!! Had the BBQ Pulled Pork appetizer at Toast of the Town, came here the very next night to try the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich, AWESOME!!! My girlfriend had the Grilled Swordfish with Lemon Oil, FANTASTIC!!! Great wine list. The ambiance is old and outdated, good for the elderly. The ONLY server, Jon, was good and was very attentive even with a large party in house. We will be coming back very soon, but we are hoping for better lighting and less of the same drab colors. read more

I was pretty excited to check out Daffodil, especially after reading about their organic and fresh menu. A restaurant's website can be misleading, and now I see the bad reviews here! So we gathered a group of 8 on a Saturday night. It was very quiet and very dead for a weekend night (not a good sign of a good restaurant). We brought our own bottles of wine, and needless to say, during the entire dinner my husband got up to refill everyone's glass often. It was disappointing, especially considering how slow they were, AND they charged us 18% gratuity automatically for service that was less than decent. Our waiter had to be reminded to bring things that were already asked for. I came knowing that I wanted the chicken pot pie and the red and gold beet salad and guess what..they were out of both!! They took quite a long time to serve us. We ordered the beer battered calamari, french fried green beans, pulled pork and a half order of ribs. I must say, they know how to tempura their food, but that is all they know how to do. The ribs were so so, my pulled pork was just a lump of pulled pork. Hardly any BBQ sauce in it, no bread on the side. The coleslaw was without any flavor, but the beer battered onion rings were superb. Again, they know how to tempura. Then as we are finishing up, something on our table attracted some gnats that would not go away, and that for me was the final straw ladies and gents. I will not come here again and would not recommend it. Simple things could have been taken care of, but it was not a priority for the staff. Considering again that the place was extremely slow for a Saturday night in SF, it made perfect sense why as we left Daffodil. read more
