This place is a nice hidden find in SGV. It's a standalone restaurant on a corner right off San Gabriel. Parking is limited to about 5-6 spaces behind the restaurant, but there's plenty of street parking. Restaurant is very clean, good amount of seating and nicely spaced out. From what I saw they seem to get a lot of take-out orders. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Prices are very fair and affordable. Don't expect anything fancy, but more of a home-cooked meal vibe. Portions are good too for what you are paying. Now to the actual flavor of the food, it pretty delicious. We got the chicken wings for a side and they were really good, friend, juicy and well-seasoned. They did come out after our main dishes though, but not a big deal. For our entrees, we got the beef brisket curry. Good rich curry flavor, spicier than we expected, but enjoyable. I do with they served a bit more sauce or added some to the top of the rice to add more flavor. Good amount of brisket, though there's a lot more tendon pieces than we'd like for being advertised as beef brisket The other item we got was the spiced beef brisket plate. Sauce was delicious, mixed in with the rice. It was a great comfort meal. Again, a lot more tendon than what I expected. I'm not the biggest fan of tendon so I was really expecting to have meatier pieces than tendon. I also wanted more veggies to go with it. I think we should've ordered one of their veggie dishes since that's what felt missing from our meal. We'll be back when we're craving a nice quick meal with quality food. I'll try other items next time that has less tendon like their spare ribs. Also looking forward to trying their popcorn chicken and Hainan chicken since those looked good too.

May 3rd, 2026 Joy's Express is a great spot if you're looking for tasty food that won't break the bank...even thouh we spent almost a hundo for a family of 5. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions you get. One thing that really stood out was how the food didn't feel greasy at all. The food tasted clean on the "healthier" side. The Hainan chicken soup and the Hainan chicken with rice were absolutely delicious. The flavors were comforting and satisfying, though I personally wished for just a tad more salt to really make the chicken POP. We also tried the curry with rice, which was another winner, to the husband, since he at it all up. The ribs with their secret sauce were a hit too; my son loved them and finished everything on his plate without hesitation. On the side, we had fries, broccoli, and their lotus soup (which I enjoyed very much). Everything paired nicely, and the lotus soup in particular felt perfect after a chilly start to our morning. Will I come back again, yes. BTW, they open until 2am!

~ Great Crispy Tofu ~ A cheap place to eat that opens late! Definitely get their crispy tofu, it is super crunchy with a lot of flavor. They just opened so it might be a long wait. There are 6 parking spots in the back and street parking.

An extremely affordable spot for Chinese/Hong Kong-style food and it's open late. -Beef Chow Fun: Decent. Slices of beef tasted a little salty. -Hainan Chicken: Pretty good. Chicken tasted fresh. -Beef Noodle Soup: Soup definitely had a spicy kick to it. Noodles were a bit mushy. -Popcorn Chicken: Tasted like the old-school Taiwanese popcorn chicken you used to be able to get all the time at the OG boba shops in SGV.

Need to try. Great price!! Great service! Clean!

Been coming here once a week since the first time I tried. Very high CP!! There prices are unbeatable. Its not those luxury dining. If that what you expected, then wrong place. However, this price. This freshness and taste, I can't find better in SGV. Food: Very high with this price Atmosphere: Very clean and simple, but they did place some thought with the utensils (plates and bowls), furniture, and decoration. Service: Always friendly and attentive. I suspect he is the boss. See him here Everytime. So far, we've tried chicken noodle soup, beef noodle soup, chicken wings, Hainan chicken rice, abalone congee, abalone chicken lotus soup, egg roll, black bean pork noodle. They are are very decent. Highly delicious for this price. Most importantly Im never thirsty after eat here. That means not drained with MSG or have any MSG. Highly recommend for daily meal. Maybe elsewhere for celebration, but an always to go to. Five Stars!!!

New spot that just opened up in San Gabriel. I've been here twice already since I live nearby and it was one of those late night "don't know what to eat" decisions. The interior looks recently updated, bright and clean. I've only done takeout so far, but the staff has been super nice. They even gave me fresh soybean milk while I was waiting which was really good and not overly sweet. I tried the signature abalone sauce with rice. It comes with one abalone which was honestly the best part. The sauce was tasty but I do wish they gave more since the rice portion is pretty big. Also got the braised pork knuckle with rice. It was decent, but I think it could be cooked a bit longer since it was a little tough and not as fall off the bone as I like. My favorite item so far is the "Signboard Chencun vermicelli." It's like thin, silky rice rolls with your choice of toppings like beef tripe, spare ribs, or beef brisket. I've tried all three and they're all solid. I'd definitely order this again. I also really liked the abalone lotus root chicken soup. It's simple but it reminded me of something my mom used to make, so it hit that comfort food spot for me. Didn't really see the abalone, but I'm guessing it's there for the flavor. You can tell they do a lot of takeout orders and the prices are pretty reasonable. I'd come back for the rice rolls and soup for sure, and I still want to try their noodles next time. For now, giving them 5 stars for both service and food.

This spot leans heavily into Cantonese comfort dishes. My friend and I ordered the following: - Curry Beef Brisket Rice -Special Beef Noodles - Braised Mustard Choy Sum While everything we ordered overall as good, I would lean towards the Curry Beef Brisket Rice. Loved the kick at the back of my throat, for all my spice lovers. For the Special Beef Noodles, they didn't have the normal noodles and substituted it with udon noddles. Not the best choice. It really gave the dish a blandness to it. The Braised Mustard Choy Sum was good with its dipping sauce that it came it. The spot itself it clean although I was given a dirty plate. The server was nice, welcoming, and attentive. Tip: Just a heads up, there's a raised step at the entrance. Handicap entrance in rear.

$12 for a good amount of food (most dishes). Curry beef brisket with rice 3/5, spicy, decent flavor but the beef was too fatty for me. I think some people would like it a lot more than me. Special beef noodles 4/5, broth was good and meat was tasty. A little spicy. I couldn't try the noods. Braised mustard choy sum - 1/5 bland and not worth it. Nice server, pretty quick, also mostly empty. Seemed like more takeout was happening. Friend's plate was dirty Parking in the back in a small lot but also lots of street parking. Overall this place is probably a 3-3.5 stars but newer so being more open minded.

I can't say enough good things about this place, seriously. Cheap prices, delicious home style classics, great portions, open late, kind staff. Everything tastes fresh and not overly salty or oily (important for my fellow Cantos). I asked if there is a way to order a larger protein portion for the Hainan chicken and the owner suggested I order a half chicken with a side of chicken rice, so will be doing that next visit. The pork spare ribs with rice noodles are delicious and a banger at only $7 for the dish. Spiced beef brisket rice was perfectly seasoned with a generous portion size. Entrees are $11-13 each and drinks are $2.59. How are you gonna beat that in today's economy?! The interior is nice and bright which is a change up for this part of San Gabriel. The restaurant has been pretty quiet the few times I've gone so I'm hoping business picks up for them soon. Tell all your friends!!!

4.5 stars. Pretty good. Pleased with the order & experience. Ordered online and pick up was easy/without any issues. Service was good too. The cashier was nice/friendly & attentive. FOOD: Beef Chow Fun 4.75/5 It's called "HK Style Beef Rice Noodle" on the menu. Beef is a bit too salty, but the noodle is not. So, overall, the dish came out fine and still tastes fairly good. $12.99 Chicken Congee 4.5/5 It's more of a "4.25", but combining taste and price, I think it's worth 4.5 out of 5 for the value. It's simple, but decent. $4.99 Lotus Root Soup w/ Pork 4.25/5 Not bad. Tastes kinda homemade/home cooking/comfort food. $5.99 Broccoli w/Oyster Sauce 4/5 Blanche broccoli drizzle with oyster sauce. It's cooked Asian style - meaning it's overcooked and tastes kinda soft. No flavor as it's simply boiled or blanched. Rely on the oyster sauce for flavor. Needed some greens, so.... DRINKS: Iced Lemon Tea 5/5 It's not very sweet. Don't think they add too much sweetener. Like the price and taste is not bad. $2.59/cup.

    Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Soup

Joy's Express was such a pleasant surprise. We ordered the Joy's Rice Noodle Soup, salt & pepper shrimp, braised choy sum, and the pork trotter rice plate, and everything came out flavorful, comforting, and very reasonably priced. The rice noodle soup especially hit the spot -- rich, savory broth with tender meat and fresh vegetables that tasted like true Cantonese comfort food. The choy sum was fresh, perfectly cooked, and balanced out the heavier dishes nicely. The salt & pepper shrimp was crispy, well-seasoned, and dangerously addictive. Great textures and generous portions for the price. The pork trotter rice plate also felt like a fun and affordable take on a classic Cantonese-style dish. What I really appreciated was that the food felt honest and satisfying rather than overly trendy or gimmicky. You can tell this is the kind of place designed for people who actually want to eat well and leave happy. The restaurant was clean, bright, and casual, and the prices are honestly hard to beat in LA right now. Spots like this become neighborhood favorites for a reason. Definitely coming back to try more of the menu. Joy's Express lives up to its name -- simple, comforting food that genuinely makes you happy.

This new grand opening place is my new go to spot!! Very reasonable price and the food is above standard. Family of 5, ordered 5 dish and total under $50!! Highly Recommended

I got my food to go and it was really good. I like the seasoning on the brisket and the noodles were really good too. I love the 2 level containers they give for take out! The meat was super tender and the one in the soup was very lean. The service was perfect, for you non Chinese speakers like me, they speak English! Huge plus... Inside the restaurant it is very clean and bright. They have a nice amount of tables, but I'm sure it can get loud if it is packed. Will definitely be back and they also have a few beers there!

Too full couldn't finish the rice

It was very sumptuous, high quality, with dishes like roasted duck, jelly fish salad, and pepper steak. My favorite was the fish soup, fish was tender and soup was very flavorful. Tip: once we ordered the set menu, dishes came up very quickly, it's best to let them slow down the pace if you are not in a rush. We got way too many dishes initially for us to enjoy properly, after letting them know, they gladly slowed down. Only complaint is it's a bit hard to hear each other even at a small table of 4-5 people. Several private rooms are available for events, the large one required $1500 min expenses before tax & tip.

Each time, we've dropped probably $300-400 since this is a pricey place. This last time I visited really was upsetting. We usually get the Peking duck as one of the options. They have a buy-one-get-one deal where you can get duck for $98 (plus tax and service) and can come back in the future for another. The last 7 times, we would order the duck and at the end, they would give the coupon. This last time, they came out with a performance and then at the end charged us an extra $30 ($130 for a Peking duck) and wouldn't give us the BOGO deal. I was so confused since they were blaming us for not telling them we wanted the deal beforehand. So instead of $98 BOGO, it was $130 for a small duck. They would not budge on the deal. And then as they were wrapping up the duck, they were like "and remember if you want more sauce to go, we would have to charge you." What?? For a $130 duck, they would charge you for the 5 cent sauce. I've been to a lot of places, as you can see - but never one where you pay Michelin prices for take-out level service. Our meal cost $500 this time, but they've lost a customer and probably many others for good because they felt the need to nickel and dime, without flexibility, and then blamed us. Felt tricked. Two stars given for good food quality. Lost stars for the service - if you care about that.

There was a short 15-minute wait when we arrived, but the waitlist process went smoothly. We just walked around the plazas next door once and then got a text that our table was ready. It took us a minute to find the veggies on the menu, but we eventually found them after a few flips through the entire menu lol. I like that there are pictures on the tablet with what the dishes look like. My husband and I ordered: the braised beef noodle soup, the pork xiao long bao, pea pod stems, cauliflower, and the wagyu burger wrap thing. I also ordered a jasmine ice tea with sea salt, which was also tasty. The meal was tasty! And our dishes came out FAST. Our favorite was the braised beef noodle soup...it was so flavorful, the meat was generous and tender, and the noodles were nicely cooked as well. The xiao long bao met our expectations (we usually go to Din Tai Fung on the westside so we're used to that), and they were really generous with the pea pod stems and cauliflower portions. The wagyu burger was cool, but I think next time we'll do the beef wrap dish instead. Our order was perfect for two hungry people. I did notice that the prices were slightly higher, but we didn't mind, given that the flavors, service, and overall vibe of the restaurant were nice and clean.

The restaurant is pretty large and has about 3 rooms with different size tables and booths. No matter the size of your party, there's a table that will accommodate. My favorite items: lobster (duh!), kung pao chicken, pork chops, and shaking beef. The seafood soup is a great starter, and don't forget to add a little vinegar and pepper! Came at 530 pm on a tuesday, and there wasen't anyone here yet. Afterwards it filled up quickly!! The main thing I dont like about this place is they dont have the prices on what your ordering. Which I'll get too at the end. Like any other Chinese restaurant, their menu is super extensive. I love how they have a little bit of everything. And its very well organized too. We ordered the following: 1. Crab and fish maw soup- this soup was amazing. It was just the right temp. Got me sweating. Can easily feed 12 people. Great amount of maw. The consistency is just right. Tasted so good!! 2. Small lobster special- on a bed of noodles. It was about 5 lbs. Cooked well. Could do without. Basically flavors. And it was expensive!! About $30 a lb. So this one dish cost basically the same amount as all the other dishes. Which was just too much. If I knew it was that much I would definitely not have ordered it. 3. Walnut shrimp- not the best walnut shrimp I've had. But it was ok. 4. Garlic shrimp- this shrimp dish was ok. Too many bell peppers and onions. It was just ok. 5. Mongolian beef- flavors were not that great. Very tender though. Could've been better. 6. Sea trout- this was amazing!! I love the sauce. Fish was so soft and tender. The heat, the spice, the sweetness. Some of that sauce in white rice was just perfection. It was really really good. Best dish of what we ordered. 7. Kung pao chicken- this was a really good dish. Crispy bits of chicken. But so soft and tender inside. I love the sauce that it was in. It was by far one of the highlights of the meal. It was good food. Price for everything (except the lobster) was pretty good. Food tasted amazing for the most part. Typical Chinese customer service. Pay at the front. Massively large portions. Solid authentic Chinese food.

It was okay, they don't fry the wrapping like some other restaurants. Braised pork rice: 3/5 - Good portion size and reasonably priced. The flavors are less Taiwanese and more Shanghai. Braised beef noodle:3/5 - Compared to other beef noodles soups we've had this was just okay. Braised intestine rice noodle: 3.5/5 - they were nice enough to make mine without peppers. I enjoy intestines and wanted to try this dish. The owner suggested I have it with vinegar which I tried and after eating maybe a quarter of the dish I felt nauseous from the vinegar. The vinegar does enhance the dish but at the same time you can only have so much of it without feeling queasy. I would rate this place 3.5 rounded up to 4. Food wise I thought this place was just okay. But I really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and might come back again in the future to try new dishes.
