    Chicken Katsu Curry

Marugame parked in the corner of Santa Anita mall is a great lunch spot after a nice stroll at the mall. We got the chicken katsu curry and it was delicious. I love the traditional lunch line set up where you grab a tray, order your food, and pick your own tempura pieces and other sides. I love watching them assemble the food right in front of you. We also got the pineapple sunrise drink which tasted like a fruit punch and was so refreshing for a summer day. I've been here a dozen times and the quality is always consistent and taste is delicious.

Finally tried Marugame Udon after years of saying I would get to it and it finally lined up. Went on a Thursday night for dinner and service was quick as well as it being quite quiet. Ordered the #1 Nikutama with Dashi Sauce as well as grabbing a katsu shrimp tempura, tamago croquette and potato croquette. Food was great, I didn't know you dress it up with cilantro, green onions, minced ginger or seaweed yourself but that was a nice option. They offer gloves to keep your hands clean as well. It was sweeter than I expected to but not too sweet which I liked. Would recommend and I'll be coming back to try other options.

The very first time that I had Marugame Udon was in HAWAII. I always wished they would open one in California. Who knew that 8 years later. They would be nation wide!! So grateful for this hand made iron place... NIKUTAMA UDON: 10/10 The STAR OF THE SHOW! It has so much savory and rich flavors. This dish we leave you wanting more and coming back for more. Highly addictive and super delicious!! CHEESE KATSU TOMAMATA: 8/10 New item! Worth trying if you like tomato sauce with udon noodles! I thought it was a creative idea. It reminded me of the Chinese version of the tomato and egg noodles. Not bad but, I still went back for more Nikutama udon noodles... SERVICE: 8/10 Every seems like they are just going their job. The cashier seems quiet and doesn't really want to do much. When I asked for Togo boxes, I almost got the eye roll but, when my friend said we got it already, he seemed relieved. My perception is so accurate that it seems like a curse more than a gift at this point... AMBIANCE: 8/10 It is usually crowded so I would recommend having your friend go sit at a table first and have someone else order the food in line... What happened to the CALAMARI TEMPURA? That was my ALL time favorite!! MARUGAME UDON, NOODLE LOVE STRONG!!!

Hot day in Southern California but my Udon cravings is greater than the muggy weather.

Stopped into the Santa Anita Mall and decided to try this Udon spot because their noodles are made with only 3 ingredients: "Pure Flour, Salt, and Water". I'm really trying to focus on healthy, cleaner ingredients in this day and age. I visited a couple times over the last few months, trying the #1 Nikutama beef udon and each visit had consistently DELICIOUS, hot broth. The noodles are fresh, and irresistibly chewy. I love the soft boiled egg to mix into my broth, too!! I am the type of person to love one item at a restaurant and always crave that one thing. I keep coming back not only for the food, but the quality of customer service you will receive here is above and beyond!! There was tons of seating. Just as quickly as customers come in, customers were leaving, and the staff is so clean and professional - keeping up with the ebb and flow of messes. You can help them by clearing your tray at the trash station! My group always loves the food. Even on super busy days, your crew works hard and serves up consistently great food over and over again. I will definitely be back to the best udon place I've ever been!!

Great place just outside the food court and next to Cheesecake Factory. There's plenty of seating inside and you order first and they'll cook your noodles right then and there, then you get complimentary toppings so I kinda went ham on the seaweed, cilantro, and tempura. But they also have green onions, ginger, garlic, etc. Got the large Kitsune ramen and man is it good, the fried tofu is nice and sweet, a perfect blend with the savory but clean broth. And the tempura crab is unbelievably crispy on the inside with an almost melting sweet crab inside. 10/10 Service is fast and friendly. I do wish we used our student discount for 15% off, but it was only after we paid and ate that we saw it was a thing. After you order and pay--there's water, sauces, and cutlery to the side. The shichimi chili pepper is so good, the perfect spicy addition to any of their options. I didn't try the tempura dipping sauce but it's also available. The noodles aren't as satisfying as what I'm used to, my udon noodles are a bit more qq, these, while elastic, are a bit softer. But, still really good. Almost all the tables seemed a bit wobbly though, but it really didn't stop me from having a delicious meal. Definitely recommend!

This is a solid, build-your-own udon restaurant conveniently located in the mall. The service is fast and the udon is delicious. Ordered the shrimp bk and added veggies and sweet potato. 15% student discount if you show your ID! The tables could be cleaner.

I would have given it a ZERO if I could. Not sure what the owner was thinking. Udon is ok, and is freshly cooked. But everything else was precooked. I am not against precook stuff but it should at least be warm. The beef was cold and dry as hell, the chashu tasted like it was made yesterday and just out of the fridge 20mns ago. This is insulting for japanese food.

If you want a quick and fast meal (yet delicious), Marugame Udon should be on your list. There are a variety of different types of wood you can order, and they all come piping hot with savory soup and delicious toppings. I have tried a bunch of different offerings on their menu and you can't go wrong. It all depends on what you're in the mood for. Once you order your udon, you have the choice of selecting various types of tempura: shrimp, tamago, imitation crab, etc. The chicken cutlet is my go to. Searing is first come first serve and it can get busy, but folks come and go pretty fast. Located on the AMC wing of the Santa Anita Mall, so Park could be a challenge depending on when you go.

Great alternative to the chaotic food court option. Service is always friendly, food is consistent across the board, rice, udon with a variety of soup base, and the complementary garnish is definitely a plus! The tempura bar is my kid's favorite!

This Marugame Udon location is part of The Shops at Santa Anita. It's connected to the mall near the food court, but you need to exit the mall first in order to enter. We came by on a Saturday afternoon, and there was no line. I got their Nikutama Udon, which you can order hot or cold. It was a warm day, so I opted for cold. The broth is slightly sweet and comes with a soft boiled egg. I like that they have tempura flakes and green onion that you can add to your liking. The texture of their udon is always perfectly springy, and the soft boiled egg has a nice creaminess to it. And of course, when at Marugame Udon, you have to get some tempura from their self-serve tempura bar! I got an eggplant, tamagoyaki, green bean, and sweet potato. The shrimp tempura wasn't replenished yet, so we ordered a couple, and once they were made, someone brought them out to us. A solid spot for some good udon!

We love this place! We come here often whenever we're craving some good, warm & comforting udon. Their sides are always crispy and fresh as well! Service is always super friendly. The restaurant itself is kind of packed inside, can be difficult to get around. There are seats outside as well. 10/10 will always come back

Cafeteria Style to get some udon! You pick what type of udon you want, customize how you want, and after there is different types of tempura to add to your tray as well. +Lines usually go by pretty quick, tempura is hit or miss. -Sometimes not that warm/ oily. +Udon is always a hit. +Toppings/ sauces are available on the side by the tissues and utensils +- seating can be tough when its crowded +clean

The wife special noodle was good as well. It reminded me of a cross between tomato egg noodles and dry beef noodles. I really liked the doughy, dense texture of the noodles, although the egg was pretty salty and the beef was a little tough. Overall, it was a solid meal and I'm glad I stopped by, especially after seeing it on the Michelin Guide. That said, the noodles weren't quite as mind-blowing as I expected based on the hype. Still worth a try if you're in the Arcadia area!

First off, the takoyaki octopus balls were full of flavor. I feel that this place does them really well. You don't feel overwhelmed by any seafood tastes and instead, you get well balanced flavor throughout every bite with the combination of the ball itself, the sauces and the flakes on top. Next is the omurice. The egg is cooked to perfection and tastes absolutely amazing. The curry, however, which was recommended by the waiter over the Demi glaze, tasted exactly like the Vermont curry cube you get in the grocery store, so I'm not sure why he recommended that over the Demi glaze. The fried rice within the omurice was alright too. Originally, I wanted to get the tonkatsu omurice but got it on the side as the choice wasn't available for the lunch menu. I would suggest doing without the tonkatsu because it was dry and there's a million and one places that can do tonkatsu better than this place. Honestly, I wish I had the opportunity to cut the omurice myself and choose how much curry I put on it, but the staff did that instead, which I guess made for a good video, but took away from my innate desires to cut the egg on my own haha. Next, the ramen tasted pretty basic like what you could get at any ramen shop. For the chicken wings, I've never had chicken wings in this flavor. They were really really good and I would definitely recommend the wings. For the desserts, I enjoyed both the matcha and the snow globe. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more, however. The snow globe is a gelatin and it doesn't really have too much flavor until you get to the parts with the flower. Plus the little clear balls have a nice flavor and texture. For the matcha, it has an interesting texture and then an interestingly light, yet deep matcha flavor. Oh the drinks. The Thai tea tastes exactly like how it does everywhere else. The amazing lemonade is a lemonade with a few slight modifications, like with cucumber and maybe some other things as well. For the service, it's pretty good here. Everyone is pretty attentive. There are three things at the table, such as cayenne pepper and two other bowls you can add to your dishes to add flavor. I forgot the name of the one I liked but it looked kind of like pork floss or loose tea, and that one had a lot of flavor. I think what's most appealing about this place is the ambiance because you can like sit in a honeycomb, there's fancy designs everywhere and you feel like you're in a different place. The ambiance here is casual and family friendly. Some were dining with friends, some solo and others there for takeouts. I wouldn't mind making a trip out there just to eat their food again!

Usually get the Gizzard (#2) or the Braised Pork (#3). Portions are huge and if you're not feeling super hungry, this can definitely work as 2 meals. There's also toppings such as green onion, cilantro, etc that are self served. Other reviews say soup can get pretty spicy, but it's not too bad. This is coming from someone who has a very low spicy tolerance. Noodles are as cheap as $11 straight up with no tax charged. They're mainly a cash business but also accept Zelle. We usually get to go so they already prep it in a to go container. Heard they usually charge extra if you ask for a to go container separately? Overall this place is my definition of comfort food. You can call your order in ahead of time if you don't want to wait. It's also nice to grab some Milk Tea at the vendor next door to balance out the oil and spice from the soup.

What's so special about their noodles? Let me tell you, they are very special. Simple soup bowls with rice noodles that don't stick together, topped with good portions of protein choice primarily beef flank, braised pork, pork intestine, pork trotter (aka pig's feet), crispy pork, or chicken gizzard, plus roasted peanuts and your condiments of choice. I chose #3 Braised Pork Rice Noodle and #9 Crispy Pork Rice Noodles Signature to-go. OMG, I was super surprised by the soup savoriness and flavorfulness. SO GOOD! The noodles were a generous amount and you can slurp them very easily. Pork portion and size were more than adequate. VERY TASTY! The roasted peanuts were great tasting... it brought back some nostalgia... nice addition to the bowl! They have a condiment station (red hot chili, hot chili oil, spicy pickled daikon, spicy pickled cabbage, spicy green onions, green onions, cilantro) where you can get as much as you would like for your bowl. Do you see a trend? Lots of spicy condiments! Staff ladies were really friendly and nice. They didn't speak much English. I just pointed to the items I wanted. Prices were very reasonable... $11 - $15 per bowl. Payment options are cash or Zelle only. Funny, I didn't have enough cash on me so I left to go to the bank to get cash. They didn't start making my order until I returned. It wasn't an issue because it literally took them a few minutes to make the bowls. Wait time was nothing. Restaurant front was clean. Shared seating is available inside the President Square Food Court. Free parking at the President Square in Arcadia. Highly recommend Mojie Noodle! #1 Guilin Style Rice Noodles is their top seller. Too bad I don't eat beef anymore otherwise I would get it. I hope they add fish to their bowls in the future. I'll be back to dine-in for more tasty rice noodle bowls even if I stick with pork or I might even try their chicken gizzards.
