Honestly I'm so disappointed with this restaurant. I had a review up previously about how my birthday brunch was not great here because of poor service. I decided to give it another shot, and this time the food was bad quality. I don't have a picture, but I had a grape that had mold on it and it was at the bottom of my fruit cup and I already ate so many fruits around it. The smoked salmon was tough to chew on. I loved Daily Gather! We went here on Friday before Father's Day and had a wonderful experience! The reason for my two stars is a lot. To start off, we were seated outside which is not a problem, but the bench we were seated on was wet. Not sure how or from what, but most of us who were seating on the bench ended up with a wet spot on our bottoms. My friend made a reservation for 11 people for her birthday brunch today, but she miscounted and some ended up not being able to go, so we told our server that we miscounted. When only 5 came to the reservation while waiting for others, our server was very attentive up to when we told her that there will only be 7. When our order came out, the food was just horrible. We were so disappointed and dissatisfied, but we didn't want to make a scene or anything so we just finished what we could. Three Egg Breakfast we got OE eggs, but the yolk was OH and not runny at all. BLT & Avocado, the chips was soggy and flat, there was no crunch. There was no crunch like how chips should be, it just folded. Cheesy Bacon Benedict, the english muffin was hard, cheese was like plastic looking not fully melted. We order many other dishes and it was just not satisfying at all. All the food looked like it was left out for too long and unattended until the server remembered. We had a party of 7, but was charged with a service fee when the menu said parties of 8 or more were subjected to that service fee. It was my first time here and the atmosphere felt like it would a great first experience, but the food was very disappointing. I will not be back and would not recommend this place at all. read more

This is my second visit to this establishment and more than likely my last. We waited an hour to get drinks the first visit and another hour just to order food. The food was decent, but definitely not worth the wait. The manager apologized profusely, yet didn't do much to make up for the inconvenience. Months later we decided to give them another try. It was not much better. We were seated at our reserved time, yet no one acknowledged us for 20 minutes. When I went to ask for a server, they apologized for the inconvenience and sent someone in about another 15 minutes. Finally, we ordered and 20 mins later we finally got water. Another 40 minutes we got our cold food (drinks never came) and food was nothing short of sub par/edible but not great. Nice location, but service and food prep needs some revamping. read more

The Daily Gather is a New American restaurant developed by the same minds who brought Dish Society to Houston. They aim to offer a seasonal menu with quality ingredients and diverse culinary influences. Our meal here was fantastic and we are excited to come back and try the new seasonal offerings! Vibe - the restaurant is located in City center, right beside one of the parking garages, and it's beautiful! The perfect ambiance for a formal but still casual environment, and a great outdoor patio space too. There's also a nice photo op in the front. Food - we ordered the charcuterie board, Caesar salad, Lola's spaghetti, and brisket French dip. The cheeses, seasoned nuts, fruits, and cured meats were incredibly delicious and they were pretty generous with the portions. I really enjoyed how the caesar salad consisted of entire leaves of romain lettuce coated with caesar dressing and grated parmesan cheese. The white anchovies on the salad were a smart choice as they were more mild than traditional anchovies, less oily, leaner, and meatier - it added a good amount of substance to the salad. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al-dente, and the sauce clung to the pasta beautifully and provided a robust marinara flavor complemented by the fresh ricotta. The brisket French dip was stupid good. They provide a heaping mound of moist brisket between two fresh pretzel buns along with a brisket dipping broth and fries. While eating the sandwhich alone was incredibly, dipping it into the broth added an unreal wave of umami meaty goodness that elevated the sandwhich to another level. Even though the brisket takes center stage, the pretzel bun notably complements the meatiness by providing its own pretzel flavor while also serving as a sponge that soaks up all the flavors. Horseradish aioli and swiss cheese provide an additional layer of acidity, creaminess, and brightness to balance out the savory notes. The fries were also incredible - delicous and super crunchy. Drinks - we ordered the blueberry lemon thyme (BLT) drink and strawberry lemonade. They were both delicious and refreshing! We wanted to try the daily juices but they were sold out. Service - our server was very kind and attentive. Overall, the Daily Gather indeed lives up to its name as a place that we definitely want to return to everyday for great service and incredible food at a fair price given the stellar quality. I've always loved the ambiance of the place, but with poor service and a general manager (at that!) that didn't seem to care too much, it's not worth my time. We've been using Houston Restaurant Week for the past several years to explore restaurants we've not tried or ones that are relatively new. So, we took this opportunity to visit Daily Gather. They had a nice offering with 4 courses for $55.00. We had reservations for 7:30 PM and we're immediately seated a booth against the wall near the end of the bar. Our waiter came by to introduced himself and at the same time we ordered a bottle of wine. It seemed to take a long time for him to come back with the wine, 10-12 minutes, which seems like a long time as the restaurant wasn't that busy. By the time he came back with the wine we'd had a chance to review the menu and make our selections. For the first course I had the SOUTHERN ROCKEFELLER, which were the best part of the meal, three grilled oysters with fresh greens and crumbled corn bread topping. My wife had the DEVILED EGG plate, which was 2 boiled egg halves sparsely covered with crumbled bacon and mustard seeds. She enjoyed them but said she probably wouldn't order them again. Second course was the CITRUS AVOCADO, the second-best dish of the evening; she really enjoyed the flavors and uniqueness of the dish. It was nicely topped with fennel fronds covering the dish for a great presentation. I had the GARDEN SALAD, which was a complete disaster! The leaf lettuce was wilted; it wasn't fresh. It was topped with shaved radishes, the best part of the salad. The "rustic croutons"; the term "rustic" can be given a positive or negative spin depending on how you use it. In this case it was "negative", as the croutons were soggy and "crunch less". Giving away the fact that the salad had been made some time ago and sitting in refrigeration waiting to be served, with the croutons already added. Now comes the main course... My wife had the STEAK FRITES and was very pleased with the flavor and proper "doneness" of the steak. It was small steak but the right size for a 4-course meal. And the French fries were outstanding, appeared to be double fried, crispy on the outside with a soft center. Unfortunately, I ordered the ROTISSERIE CHICKEN which I wasn't very pleased with. Four pieces of chicken was atop the cauliflower mash and grilled broccolini, nice presentation. However, the chicken was tough, the serrated butter knife couldn't cut through the chicken, I had to ask for a steak knife to cut the chicken. I really enjoyed the cauliflower puree, but the broccolini was tougher than the chicken, again needing a steak knife to cut it. The overall dish was very "greasy", and the amount of chicken fat took away from the dish. We finished off the meal with desert, the three offering looked really good, and my wife who thinks desert is the best course of the meal, was excited. She ordered the CHOCOLATE CHIP SKILLET COOKIE, it had two of her favorite things as the highlight of the dish, chocolate and ice cream. It was served in small cast iron skillet (great visual presentation), with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Sadly, she said the cookie was room temperature, not what you'd expect when it was baked in the skillet. I touched the skillet, and it was barely warmer that room temperature. She was very disappointed with the desert, ate the ice cream and about 3 bites of the cookie. This was the first time I'd ever seen her not finish a desert. My BANANAS FOSTER BANANA PUDDING was actually worse than her desert. Clear liquid was pooled on top of the pudding, once again, a clear sign this this had been sitting around for quite some time. As I dug into the pudding the vanilla wafers were completely waterlogged and mushy, very similar to the "rustic croutons" in my salad. When it took my first bite, I got a mouth full of "Phloem bundles", those are extra stringy bits you see when you peel a banana, the pale bitter strands that you don't want to eat. There was no hint of "bananas foster" taste in the three bites I took before pushing it away in disgust. In summary, the ambience was excellent, the service was average, but most of the food was subpar and definitely not "the freshest seasonal dining experience" as stated on their website. While we did order off the HRW menu, all these dishes were on their regular menu, so the meal was representative of quality of Daily Gather, and not something curated for HRW. Not sure we'd be willing to give them another try after this experience, too many excellent restaurants in area to roll the dice again. read more
