Daiso is a company based in Japan. What you have here is a hyaku en (100 yen shop) transplanted to America. Hyaku en is the Japanese version of a dollar store; $1.50 in this case. Packed with gadgets, knick knacks, and household items this is a guilt free shopper's paradise. Items are from Japan so you are gonna see some unique things here. Service is brisk and friendly. There is also packaged food that is lower priced than you normally see. The store is amusingly over saturated with do not steal signs. Surveillance cameras everywhere. I suppose small are items are easy to pocket and this is America; not Japan. Workers are always merchandising; so help is easy to find. The temptation to buy is extremely high here. Word to the wise, put yourself on a budget here before you enter. It is the Japanese version of the Dollar Tree save that everything costs $1.50 store except what's marked otherwise. Also, there's cuter things of better quality here than at most Dollar Trees. To be sure, this place is very well stocked with many useful and adorable items. As a teacher, I was able to get a lot of items for my class. I got scissors, hourglass timers, paper, ice packs, and sturdy folders all at just 1.50 each. I also added to my art supplies by buying felt, fancy paper, stickers, yarn, sowing needles, and safety pins. They also have lots of items for your kitchen (bowls, plates, silverware, containers, trays, and napkins to name a few) as well as great stationary tools (pens, pencils, pouches, folders, markers, drawing pads...etc). It's a bit overwhelming with at first with aisles so filled with items and people. I suggest one to take his/her time and browse a bit before you start filling up one's cart. First time here! It's a pretty big store with everything from office and kitchen supplies to Japanese soft drinks and makeup. Everything is on average $1.50. You can't go wrong! I even saw a generic Iphone/ipod usb cord.. but I can't really say how well you can trust it to not burn up your phone or something. Who knows. Only complaint I have was that the entire store felt like an oven! It was, in fact a sunny day in San Francisco, but it was still the 65-degreed sunny SF! And it was burning up in there! Imagine an actual summer day in that special week in September.. By far my favorite Daiso (of three or four along the West Coast), for one simple reason - this location is easily two to three times larger than any other Daiso or Ichiban Kan I've been to, with a large section of the store dedicated to dinnerware (plates, bowls, cups, etc). Beyond that, it's what you would expect from Daiso - unusual knick-knacks, useful household items you never knew about, cutesy and/or Japanesey goods, Asian snacks and foodstuffs, low and affordable prices, all at varying levels of quality. I spent an hour browsing at stuff in Daiso when I was supposed to be researching for honeymoon while waiting for my hubby. If that's not devotion to all things $1.50 (unless otherwise marked), I don't know what is. I especially like looking at all the snacks that I don't eat but think about eating. I LOVE this store! I always make it a point to hit Daiso, since they sell the best stuff at the lowest (can you say "a dollar fifty?!) prices. It's the perfect place for common household items. I've found things like dishes, bowls, utensils, and gardening materials. They also carry candies and snacks as well. Prices are dirt cheap so don't expect high-end stuff here. It's comparable to other price saving stores, but carry Asian products. They do not allow drinks or food in this place. Be prepared to be turned away or placethem aside such as their bagging area located front of the entrance. A security guard will kindly advise if in doubt. read more

One of the best Daiso stores I've come across! The store isn't that big but I love their variety inside! I bought a small travel size tweezers for my purse and a lint remover! Daiso claims to be open until 8PM. It is not. The employees want to leave by 8PM. The store is closed at 7:40PM with ZERO flexibility. I trusted the website and drove all the way across town. When I showed up at 7:42 they refused me entry. They would not even sell me a package of masks which are right next to the cash register. Their store at 16th and Potrero is closed entirely. We had the hardest time finding this store. From Geary Blvd, we saw a faded Daiso sign but we couldn't get in because the note on the door indicated that we had to use the mall entrance. So we had to hike over to the former Miyako hotel, go down the stairs and look around (they are located behind said stairs). Store is kind of dim and there was only one employee there. Although this location is smaller than Daly City's, they do pack a lot of stuff in the store. My one gripe is that, in my quest for a large, standard dish rack, they don't put all the components in one section. I saw a plastic dish rack but where oh where is the pad that was illustrated in the picture? After searching high and low, I found that pad in another section. Alas, we didn't buy the dish rack because we couldn't find the utensil cup and gave up looking for it. I did get some cheap house ware stuff that I couldn't find at Ichiban Kan. Half amazing and half not so great. You just have to know what to get. If you are after something in particular it's a cool place to look. If you're not after anything in particular it's can also be a fun place to look. The kitchen supply section has some great tools, some fun dishes and its all very inexpensive. It was super busy during the holidays! I went in to buy my friend a $5 Santa Clause outfit. Daiso is just Daiso--so many small trinkets and Japanese goodies, if you've been to one you've been to them all. Come to Daiso for all your junk needs (because there's nothing you REALLY need here). Definitely my favorite store in all of San Francisco. They sell everything from plates, to stationary, to knives, to gardening tools, to screwdrivers. Just about everything is $1.50 (unless marked, which is usually $3). They're sometimes better quality than what you can find elsewhere, like the dishes are $1.50 and dishwasher and microwave safe. At Target, you would pay 3-4 times as much for a non-microwave safe plate. Just a heads-up: they don't do refunds/returns/exchanges. Love Daiso! I used to shop at Daiso in Japan all the time. For $1.50 on most items, you can get tons of cute little necessities. We went right as the store opened at 10am, and we weren't the only ones. You can spend quite a bit of time going down every aisle to look at things you didn't think you needed, but really, you do. This was one of our last stops in SF before boarding a flight back to DC. Daiso is a popular store! It was pretty crowded on a Saturday late afternoon so it wasn't as pleasant an experience when trying to maneuver around other people and look at items. They have essentials such as household items including rice bowls, plates, and chopstick rests, cosmetics, toiletries, and food items, and also fun items that you don't really need like cute bake ware, stationary, and gifts. There also seems to be strange items that I wasn't sure what they were! Wouldn't recommend the hard bristle brushes but they have lots of colours in their nail polish section and cute nail stickers too. Lots of good candy options too. Great store to check out. read more

I truly love this Daiso! It's quite big and always has a nice selection and variety. I got a lot of cute stuff on my most recent trip, but was quite disappointed with their sticky note selection for that day. Every time I would come before they had such a large and amazing variety. Today however only had about 5 different styles. But I was quite please with my other products I purchased today. I ended up with about 5 more stationary sets because they are just too cute! Ever since I discovered Daiso stores in the bay area a few years back, I always wondered why they wouldn't put a Daiso in Japantown. In 2010 my dream came true when I found a small Daiso in the Miyako Mall in Japantown; I was just there last weekend and the store has expanded to a much larger size... squee! This Daiso is one of my favorite stops in the Japan Center. Daiso is essentially a Japanese dollar store... only it's more like a $1.50 store, with some items priced higher (though I haven't seen anything over $10). And much like a dollar store, they have a variety of everything: kitchenware, home & garden items, office products, school supplies, jewelry, accessories, decorative items, toys, snacks, drinks, and a huge selection of cups, mugs, plates and tea sets. It can get pretty busy in there but take my word- brave the crowds for some cute items and great deals! read more

Daiso Japan where everything is pretty much $1.50 or otherwise specified. You can find a lot of things for cheap and decent quality. If you're in pitch to buy underwear, make-up, kitchenware or a snack this is your place to go to get the stuff! Oh, so much stuff here and it's cute too. I love the wall of pocky for $1.50 and some for $2 and up. They have a huge assortment of pocky and other Japanese treats. I can go crazy trying to buy all the assorted pocky and junk food I can find there but I had to control myself and pick just two or three boxes. I also got o buy cute underwear for $3 and a reusable bag for $1.50 which comes with a zipper! I like shopping at Daiso! Everything is so cheap! Quatlity is decent. They have iphone charging cables for $1.50, the cheapest I have ever found anything, even cheaper than ebay. I doubt if it is MFI certified, but for this price, you can't expect too much right? Their battery is an amazing deal as well! This is the tiniest store of the 4 I had been to. I am guessing when the Milbrae store closed, they just moved all the inventory here because they were about the same size. This store is great, because there are a couple of items that this store carries that others does not or are always out of stock. 1 star off because this location was not super well stocked on October 31. I saw employees with giant boxes in the aisles so hopefully that means they will be stocked better super soon because I don't like to see empty spaces on the shelves... makes me feel like I might've missed out on some things! I was expecting it to be bigger because I've been to Japan and they have some HUGE ones but really can't complain about the size - I hear it's the biggest in the bay and I guess it's about the size of Dollar Trees I've been to. Although 50c more, the merch is definitely cuter and more unique than at Dollar Tree. You can buy anything from seaweed salad (just add water!) to easy-to-use fountain pens (use just like a regular ball point pen - no mess!) I got inflatable wings ($3 each) for me and my friend, one in white and one in black. The seasonal Halloween section is super cute! Ended up spending $30 total and most of my purchases were $1.50 lol. read more

This store to me has the feel of a convenience store for knick knacks. You will find items you would not even think you need but you actually do. Example would be various types of shoe cushion that would normally cost 5x-10x more in other stores but can get here for $1.50. Actually most (90%) of their stuff is priced $1.50, now how can you go wrong with that? From plates, to hangers, stationeries, school/office supplies and makeup. One item I think is so worth the price is their big bag of cotton for $1.50. If you are like me who uses cotton as part of my face cleaning regimen every day, this is such a great bargain! I also have this penchant for Japanese snacks, and Daiso has a good variety to choose from. Downside is that not every Daiso carries the same merchandise. I think the SF Japantown store has the most items to choose from and is worth a stop if you are in the area. Store can get busy especially on weekends and lines can get long but if you have the time and patience it's a great place to do your knick knack shopping for a lot less. read more

Huge fan of Daiso in general (there are stores in San Jose, downtown SF, and in Alameda), but this store in particular seems to have it ALL. So much so that we needed to limit our time there so that we could leave without hitting massive traffic on the way home! What I like there: dog toys, indoor plant accessories, small ceramic pieces, pens and pencils, paper, erasers, gloves for phone use in cold climates, reusable shopping bags, washi tape, small needlecraft accessories, snacks... I'm from New York and Daiso recently opened here in Flushing Queens. I hate waiting in long lines especially for grand openings so I never went to the Daiso in NY. I was gladly surprised when I was shopping around Japantown in San Fran and saw there was a Daiso here! The store itself in my opinion is a higher end dollar store. They sell items for $1.50 which fits most working class budgets. The items they sell here are of great quality as well but that's a given because the Japanese produce items of decent quality. I left the store with 3 diff types of qtips, some ladels for soup, a draining mat for dishes and a whole bunch of other house hold items. Shopping here is so fun and organized, you can find anything you wish since every aisle is for a certain thing. Overall I had a great experience shopping for household items here. read more

Coming here brought back Japan memories! I live in nyc and there's no Daiso there so I was very excited to visit the one in Japantown. The store was unfortunately just one floor but still very big. Unlike Japan where most items without price tags were $1, this one was $1.50. A lot of the snacks exceeded that price. There definitely weren't as many items as harajuku's Daiso but they still had a very good selection. Products ranging from clothing to kitchenware to gardening materials. Anyhoo, I think it's about time that I'll conclude my 3-day Nor Cal vacation review about a store meant for 5-Foot [Frugal] Frenzy.** While Daniel L had to undergo a haircut--I mean, important errand xP--before his new residency in the IA, Yelp buddies Jonathan W, Janice S, Hube N, Wanugee N & I explored around Japantown, and I was intuitively curious about the name, written in white against an electric lime green background bar, displayed on this huge, white, monotonous-looking building, next or "rooming with" all these potentially delicious, copious mounts of Japanese eateries (e.g. ramen, mochi, & crepes). These Bay Area natives had led me the way into what I call a traveling bargain hunter's bucket list. 99.95% of a plethora, variety of items is priced at $1.50--unless explicitly noted--ranging from cute kitchenware, air fresheners, pet clothing, school supplies, fake eyelashes, to hygiene products, among the very useful at a cash-only basis. The store may not be as gargantuan as, say, Dollar Tree or (really...) 99 Cents Store, but these imported goodies are at speechlessly better quality that I had an instant, invisible knock on my head, telling me, "Oh shoot, I really need this...I was supposed to get this...should I get this for my car?" What did I end buying? Out of practically a whole hour I got a spatula; a colander; a plastic, enclosed organizing binder; a comb; a steel-wool scourer (for those stubborn grease stains on my pans); chips (on the way back home); a shampoo travel set; a nail file (b/c I kinda chipped my fingernail tip during the gallivanting); & an earset for listening to Pandora in my laptop during my oftentimes café hangouts. Even my Bay Area buddies went almost frenzied-like in Daiso, & over a month after my Bay Area vacay, all my bought, frequently used items are still in good condition *knock on wood*. The girls found out there's both a Daiso and Ichi Ban Kan in the Cultural Center, and they were ready to go after lunch at May's. Like many of the Daiso locations, one can find all sorts of stationery, candies, Japanese snacks, dolls, utensils, personal care items, storage containers, toys,.......It's a Japanese variety store. If there's a gadget, or a body-specific back scratcher or massager, you can find it here. Prices are pretty cheap. Compared to the location in Serramonte, this location is much smaller. Merchandise is pretty packed and stacked at the Serramonte location, and this location is even more so. Too congested for me, but we got our cider candies, Pocky Sticks, rice crackers, and gum. Pretty dark in this location, and there was only one cash register open, accepting cash only. read more

If you can't find it at Daiso, it very well may not exist. From household items and slippers to gardening tools, school supplies, and even wigs, Daiso seems to have it all. Granted it may not be the best quality, but as a girl on a budget, I'm willing to compromise when it comes to certain things. Especially when most items are only $1.50 (anything over this amount is designated w/signs). My favorite items: - Kitchen sponges. The packs of five are pretty crappy, but the ones sold individually rock! - Storage containers. At $1.50/container, food and make-up storage has become much more affordable. - Sushi molds. Now I can make spam musubi and onigiri at home :) - Bowls/plates/mugs. I love FOB English and only at Daiso can I purchase a mug that reads: "Hi! Land of Animals. The World is a Happier Place When I'm With You." - Eyelashes. I only wear 'em on occasion, but I much prefer the $1.50 price tag to the $3-$4 at drugstores. Plus, the ones at Daiso are actually pretty quality. - Hi-Chew. No explanation required. And the above is only what I purchased the last time I was here. The next time I visit, I'm almost positive I'll have more to add. I can seriously pass away hours wandering the aisles of seemingly endless goodies. My favourite place in JapanTown San Francisco!! Everything here is $1.50 USD with awesome quality and variety of products. The only other Daiso i have been to was in Vancouver, which was a $2 for everything store. I guess including the currency exchange, theyre about the same. So before I got into the store, I noticed that there's a security guard standing outside. Walking in, the lights were on the eco-friendly side, so they're not super bright, but oh my goodness the products that they sell for $2 is AWESOME. There's decoration, snacks, food, bowls, toys, wallets, DIY materials, bins to organize your room, whatever you can think of. The paper bag was 20 cents, but it was massive. It was also a paper brown bag, so if you think about buying a paper brown bag for your friend's gift, it's actually cheaper here because there's no advertisement writing on it. Yes this Daiso is smaller than the one in Vancouver, but I still loved it!! read more
