I came here for the first time to celebrate my mom's birthday. My brother had been here before and really liked it, so he wanted to take us here. This review is written in comparison to Ruth Chris' Steak House and Summit House, which I think are similar in pricing and menu. Atmosphere wise, Dal Rae is very lively, crowded, and popular. There is live music, and the noise level is quite high so it might not be the best place to have a conversation. Lighting is also very dim. I found the service to be good (no complaints), but I personally felt that the service I received at Ruth's Chris and Summit House was much more attentive and personal. The most positive thing that stood out about the service here, though, was that our server asked me if I wanted more au jus for my prime rib; when he brought the au jus, he poured some for my prime rib and for my brother (because I had shared with him a portion of my prime rib). I was impressed by his consideration. We ordered the Pepper Steak, Poor Man's Pepper steak, Chilean sea bass, and prime rib. The pepper steak was VERY good. We were all impressed with the flavoring and seasoning. My brother ordered the Poor Man's steak to save money, and it looked exactly like the pepper steak so my parents didn't know that he had ordered the more affordable version (which helped with the experience so that my parents didn't have to feel bad about it). We thought the Chilean Sea Bass was mediocre; it didn't have any special seasoning and honestly tasted fishy to me. The prime rib was juicy but didn't have any notable flavors; I preferred Summit House's prime rib more. Regarding sides: although the creamed spinach and creamed corn were good, we thought the creamed spinach at Ruth's Chris and the creamed corn at Summit House were much better. Regarding parking, there is street parking in the neighborhood but it can be hard to find. We ended up having to do valet parking. Would recommend getting a reservation. read more

This is one of those places that withstands the test of time. Trends don't exist here. This place has never been an instagrammable spot, and it never will be because its not the cool spot that takes a good picture. This place is an institution. It probably hasn't been remodeled since it opened and we are all happy it hasn't been or it would have lost its charm. Step in here and you'll get taken back to the days that Northrup Grumman used to be across the street, and the b2 was still top secret. Some old timers come here for weekly dinners, but some of us come to celebrate anniversary's and special occasions. The service here is immaculate. You will never not come here and not get treated like family. The workers all remember to come and have a conversation with you and make you feel at home. The pepper steak is what everyone comes for. The table side Caesar is a requirement as well. It's hard to put into words what this place represents but aside from that, the food is delicious. The food and cocktails are on the expensive side, but sometimes you just gotta live a little. Make sure you dress up here too, you'll kill the vibe if you come in a T-shirt and maybe get kicked out. You already know It's going to be a great spot if there's valet! Ambiance: We can hear for a DineLA dinner. It's fancy as you walk in. Amber lights Darkened room. I have been patronizing Dal Rae for over 30 years. I don't live close by but I still make the drive up 605 for my sea bass a la Ben fix. It's always perfect . Flakey, tender, moist and always perfectly seasoned. Even the broccoli is perfectly done. The bread is wonderful. A chewy crust with a soft interior served with next level butter. The food is one thing. The service is another. It is always attentive and timely. Tonight Lidia was helping us. Always above & beyond to give us a great experience. Came on a Friday evening and I was pleasantly surprised with a very busy dining room good thing we had reservations! The ambiance was nice but the service was very slow. At times we didn't see our waiter for over 15 minutes and we went and found the maitre D for our immediate requests. But all food that came out was excellent. Nothing lacking and I think overall good value as a whole. The dessert was weak and I did not feel it was home made. Tasted mass produced but that's not my gripe, I just didn't think it was good chocolate cake. But that's my only complaint. Form the bread to their entre it was overall very good. We went with family for several celebrations on a Saturday night. You have to valet park for $6. It's dark and old timey inside. There was bread, & spicy corn chips on the table. Ordered the oysters, special chopped salad, chilean sea bass, and a 8oz filet mignon. They also prepared a bunch of bread and garlic bread to fill you up before your meal. Food was mediocre but what really made it worse is the quality of the beef. It tasted overly cooked and not tender. I mentioned it to the server and they remade it. The presentation and plating of the food really needs some work. The vegetables they used were broccoli on the plates and it was not cut into smaller pieces and just sloppily placed on the plates. Refer to my picture as an example. Also gave a free birthday dessert hot lava cake for hubbys birthday. What really made me decide to not come back again is because 2-3 hours after eating the food, I got food poisoning. Vomit and diarrhea. We celebrated my husband's birthday at Del Rae in Pico Rivera and had a wonderful first time experience. The service was excellent. Our server, Dawn, was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious. We both ordered the surf and turf, which included Chilean sea bass and filet mignon with broccoli and a baked potato with all the fixings. The garlic Parmesan bread was amazing! The baked potato was average but on the larger size, the filet was very tender and cooked perfectly to medium just the way we like it, and the sea bass was the standout. It was the softest, most flavorful Chilean sea bass I've ever had. To top it off, we were treated to two single servings of lava cake for the birthday and for being first-timers, which was a lovely touch. She always made sure our food was perfect, even sending back some baked potatoes herself because she didn't think they were cooked enough for us. She was absolutely amazing. This restaurant is old. I didn't like the ambiance. It gave that vibe like it's trying to be classy but it lacks that certain quality. It needs to be remodeled inside and outside. I had the linguini and clams and the clams did not taste fresh. I had a bite of the steak and it was not tender. The drinks tasted water down. I will not be back. This place is a hidden gem!! I first came here for My Niece's graduation dinner. I was in awe with everything including its fantastic food. Our next visit was our 33rd Wedding Anniversary and I have to say we had a lovely evening. On our first visit, we came with several people so we were kind of in a big room behind the stage, this time we had no idea to the right, there were other rooms and it was dark and cozy.....I just loved it. This was nearby the citadel where we were shopping so we decided to give this place a shot considering the high ratings. They have valet only parking available for $7 for dinner. We happened to come on their 72nd anniversary so the place was packed. The only option was the bar if we could find a spot. Luckily there was a couple that was finishing up so we waited for 5 minutes to be able to both sit. Getting a drink took 15 mins as ten bartenders were busy and they were understaffed. We opted for the pre- fix menu which offered their signature pepper steak. The meat was very tender and seasoned well. My sea bass was ok as I'm not a fan of Parmesan on sea bass a felt it overpowered the delicate fish. The ambiance is definitely retro as this per the locals we spoke with they didn't change anything since opening. I enjoyed the live music playing but the bartop was quite high so wasn't the most comfortable. An astounding restaurant in this day and age, like a Time Machine to another era, the ambience of this establishment is world class, the service impeccably attentive and the food, well few places consistently match the quality of Dal Rae. We've dined here a few time and intend to do so many more. The Prime Rib is 10/10, no notes, not salty like so many places these days. My wife pronounced her Halibut order as the best she'd ever had and her baked potato as "delectable ". Their sides and appetizers are all great, we plan to go one time and just order a few sides and a salad (their vast salad selections are served HUGE, really enough for two). We had tuna sashimi on toast recently, it was a creative tasty dish, never had anything like it. The desserts are always a nice finish and the in-house valet always efficient. There is not enough praise I can possibly heap on Dal Rae, if you don't have a Time Machine to 1959, this is your only choice for fantastic dining midcentury style. read more

My plants fell through for a birthday dinner downtown . Why drive so far when we can always go to our favorite Fine dining restaurant, Del Rae . The vibe is always just right. My ex boyfriends, Dad used to bring the family, and I here all the time. Every time I sit in this restaurant. All I can think about is him . We literally sat in a booth, right next to the table that he always sits at. We were all sitting at the table thinking. Why didn't we invite him ? Oh well next time. As life would have it. Classic restaurant with great food and old school decor! We came here for a farewell dinner, got the calamari that was crispy. Both the New England clam chowder and Manhattan chowder were flavorful, lots of clam. we were half full after the soup. The prime ribs were cooked to perfection, we truly enjoyed! Tonight we had dined at Dal Rae after many recommendations from a friend. The restaurant has a nostalgic feel and transports you back to the 50's and decked out for the holidays too. We came on a Friday night without reservations and were expecting a long wait, however, I think they took sympathy on us because we had our 4 year old daughter with us. We were famished after a long day of traveling about Whittier and La Habra. Our server, Luke, was the best. After only a few months of working at Dal Rae, he was knowledgeable about the menu and history of the restaurant. He answered all the menu and questions we had. He recommended the surf and turf option when I couldn't decide between the Sea Bass Ala Ben and the Fillet Mignon (good call Luke!). The French Onion soup was outstanding and my baked potato was the best. They didn't have a kid friendly menu but the kitchen made some buttered noodles for our daughter. She ate them up like there's no tomorrow. We. finished the meal off with a buttered cake with vanilla ice cream. The service was great real traditional where the server was really there to make sure your experience was great! The food is honestly the best quality best steaks! Table service was fine, efficient, but unfriendly. The valet service was friendly and welcoming ,, arriving and leaving. They deserve five stars, we tipped nicely on top of the $6 charge. Stopped by this restaurant for a team lunch and I was kind of surprised by how nice it looked inside as the outside kind of looked like the opposite. FYI, this place is valet only, so be prepared to hand your keys over. I ordered the chicken fried steak and didn't realize how salty it would be because of all the bacon that was used as a topping and maybe infused with the sauce too. If I didn't have the mashed potatoes, I don't think I could have eaten as much as I did. If the salt level was reduced, it would have definitely been more enjoyable. The staff that was helping us seemed pretty friendly though and I think it would be a nice spot to have a nice dinner or lunch, especially around the holidays as they decorated the inside. read more

It was my first time dining here, and I absolutely loved it. The food was great, and our waitress was on top of everything very attentive and friendly. The only issue I had was with the host. I mentioned (politely) that we hadn't been acknowledged yet and didn't mean to be rude. We had just been seated at our table and hadn't seen anyone. The host responded with sarcasm, saying, "Hi, I'm your waiter," which I didn't appreciate. Came here on a whim. The restaurant is quite festive during the holidays. If you're into their specialty of "peppered" meats then this is the place for you. The restaurant was quite busy with some large parties even at 9:30pm dinner time. Service was good, they start off with their bread basket and later come back with another round of different type of bread. What threw me off was when I went to the restroom and having to pass by the bar, it was like I walked into a dive bar as it smelled like one. There was karaoke and live music which is cool.
