Had a good time at Danby Station this morning. Service was alright, sort of felt a little rushed. Food was really good, even though my dish had to be made twice, because it was served with a huge black/grey hair the first time. That's why I minus a star. The food was really good though. I typically order their sandwiches, which are filling. Today I had the California Zephyr salad (hold the tomato) which comes with a breadstick. Local Dinner Fell Below Our Low Expectations My husband and I had low expectations pulling into the parking lot of Danby Station, however the parking lot was full and so were the tables and we thought, why not? (why are expectations were low, I can not really explain). We were greeted by friendly faces, and seated within a few moments. Coffee and water arrived immediately, which is always a bonus in my book - however I hard a time telling if the coffee was actually good because it was so hot. Nonetheless, I chugged it down and waited for my second cup; that is when I realized, the coffee was very watered down and not tasty at all. Again, I didn't expect gourmet coffee, just the standard dinner version, but it fell short. When I got home, I immediately made my own cup as I knew that stuff was not going to help get me through my day. For food, I ordered one of the specials - Pumpkin Pancakes - as I am a sucker for anything Pumpkin flavored this time of year. My husband ordered the Country Fried Steak Skillet, which is something you don't see on most breakfast menus, again, a nice little bonus as they offered a robust menu. Our food arrived in a timely fashion, given how crowded the place was and the platting of my Pumpkin Pancakes was gorgeous; three semi fluffy pancakes topped with a good helping of whipped creamed surrounded by a dusting of cinnamon - I couldn't wait to dive in. Unfortunately when I did, the pancakes had zero flavor. I ended up eating only one as they were not worth the calories and saved the other two for my dog at home. The rest of the meal, I picked off my husband's plate - only because I was starving. His Country Fried Steak Skillet was primarily hash browns, as the remaining of the fixing was scarce. I had to drive out to Wheaton, IL. for work today. It was lunch time, we were hungry and this place caught my eye as we were driving down Roosevelt Rd... I'm glad it did, because we ended up being very satisfied. The place was filled (but not too crowded) with families, couples, some post-church crowd, and groups of all ages. We were seated right away. My friend ordered breakfast...a Bacon, Spinach & Jack Cheese Omelette. It came with hash browns, and pancakes. I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap, with chunks of crumbled Blue Cheese and bonus points....Tots!! (I had my choice of tots, fries, fresh fruit or cole slaw) It also came with soup. Both meals were delicious! I couldn't even finish all of mine. My friend ordered coffee and I can't count how many times the server came around to fill her cup. Excellent, excellent service! I really really like this place. I really really like that a bill for 2 people is less than $20. I really really like that they know how to poach an egg. I really really like a lot of things here. I used to hang out here in high school...when it was Denny's. Those were the days, man...Unlimited coffee...open all night....close to home...it was sweet. But not as sweet as Danby Station. My mom's favorite breakfast joint, and I found myself here on Saturday morning...I look over and bam! There's mom sitting with her breakfast buddy. I too am with my own breakfast buddy. I guess I do take after her just a little bit... Anyways, I ordered the 2 eggs (poached) with turkey sausage (delightful) and hash browns (undercooked--next time, I'll ask for them extra crisp) with a biscuit and gravy instead of toast (Only like 75 cent up charge? heck ya!) The biscuit was fluffy and delish. The gravy was warm and gravy-like. The eggs were, like I said, perfectly poached. The browns were a little soft, and the turkey sausage consisted of two flavorful patties. The OJ comes in a cute little glass, which is perfect Chrissy size (I don't like a lot of juice in the AM.) Pretty decent breakfast cafe that also serves lunch. This is a non-smoking restaurant that used to be a Denny's before it changed over to Danby's. Nice warm country atmosphere with alot of booths for seating around the windows. The service was friendly and attentive and the meal was good. I really enjoy the coffee served here as well. I've been here about 5 times now and every time is very pleasant. The coffee is always fresh, food is delicious and portion appropriate. I always get eggs with meat, potatoes and toast and my boyfriend always goes for a supreme omelet. With a coffee, our bill typically comes out close to 18$. I love the homey feel here, the owners remember us and always make an effort to be friendly and welcoming. Overall, my favorite place to get breakfast in the area! read more

Two stars seems kinda harsh, but this place rates a "meh" far more than an "A-OK." Things looked promising when we walked in for Sunday breakfast - the place was packed, and it smelled great. The hostess, however, was disinclined to seat the two of us at the only open table in the restaurant and told us we'd need to wait 10 minutes. Why? I have no idea. Maybe she was on her way to a smoke break or something. Anyway, a kindly busboy took pity on us and asked her to please seat us, and the hostess relented. The food was bland at best. My veggie benedict was drowned in a vile, watery Hollandaise and my dad described his chili-topped omelet as "gummy." Eew! I did like the generous, tasty fruit bowl that I subbed for hash browns, and they had a nice basket of hot teas. Our waitress was attentive and the local history decor is mildly interesting, but for barely-OK food and a space cadet hostess, there are far better ways to spend $23 on breakfast. I came here Friday with my friend for a 10AM brunch. We had never been here before, but it seemed like the perfect meeting place before shopping nearby. There was a steady crowd but it was not overflowing like it might be on a weekend. We were seated right away and offered coffee promptly. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, and she was completely fine with pouring me a half decaf half regular coffee (yay!) and did so a few more times while we were there. The menu had the usual diners choices. I did not scrutinize all the offerings as I already knew I wanted an omelette. One thing I really liked was that I had the option to order fruit or hash browns plus pancakes or toast. I think it was pick 2 (?) A lot of places make you choose between fruit or carbs. I am gluten free and asked about toast. They did not have that, but they have gluten free pancakes which were great, plus fresh fruit. For my omelette I ordered the veggie with swiss cheese (for this omelette choice, cheese is 50 cents extra). Our orders came very quickly, and my omelette was huge- it literally filled half the large plate. It was packed with broccoli, tomatoes, peppers. I had opted no onions but those are normally in there too. It was exactly what I needed. If you order fresh fruit you have two options, I got strawberries and bananas, which were fresh and delicious. My friend also really loved her order. She was on a very limited diet bc of undergoing chemo. The staff were very, very, attentive to her needs and everything was prepared exactly to order. Overall, I love this place and definitely will be back. One of the main reasons is that, all things being equal, fabulous caring staff and service make a huge difference. Today was brunch with my mom and sister before heading to see GG and my mom leaving. Danby was close and although I've driven by it a thousand times, I've never stopped in. My sister recommended it bc she likes the GF pancakes. The wait-staff was kind and attentive. The clientele was mainly groups in their sunset years. The food was simple and absolutely delicious. I had cream of broccoli soup, a BLT, and a salad with balsamic. Everything was home-made, fresh, and not salty. 3 of us were stuffed and our bill was $21. This might become a bit of a delightful tradition. Nothing frilly. Simply good, classic food from a local business at reasonable prices... and admittedly, I kind of love that they re-purposed an old Denny's. read more

I've read this place used to be a Denny's. To me, it might as well still be a Denny's because we were not at all impressed with the food or service. Among our table, we sampled a skillet, pancakes, and eggs with meat. It's not that anything truly bad happened. It was just so underwhelming. I'd rather just go to IHOP, and that's saying something. My husband and I've been coming to Danby's Station for almost 6 years now - at least a couple of times a month. I think all of the servers from our first visit are still here, which is amazing! All of their staff are friendly and super efficient. We can tell they love and take pride in what they do. The menu is pretty extensive and encompasses the most breakfast and lunch staples. My recent favorite has been their crepes. I just had French Fruit crepes with Sautéed bananas this morning and it was delicious. Their portion size is pretty large, so we can always get two meals out of our entree. If you're ordering a savory dish, we suggest choosing tater tots for your side - they are awesome. We almost always get our food to go, and everything comes out perfectly. Overall an unsatisfying experience. Very disappointing. There was some kind of chemically cleaner smell in the entrance way. Should have tipped us off, but we went in. One of our water glasses had dried up lettuce or spinach and something white stuck to the outside of it. The cream of chicken rice soup was plentiful but bland. We added salt pepper and lemon which helped some. The egg sandwich on a croissant with bacon, was just okay. The hash browns were borderline burnt. The grilled romaine chicken Caesar salad was boring and not worth the price at all. The presentation was unappealing and the dressing lacked. The croutons had a stale aftertaste and the tomatoes were big, clunky, unripened wedges with zero flavor. While we were eating there was an overpowering wet mop smell. They found out it was her birthday and made her this Super Yummy Belgium waffle/ice cream/chocolate sauce birthday treat! Not only was it sweet of them, but their waffles are so SO good! Love this place. Have been coming here for breakfast about once a week for the last seven years since I worked I across the street. I've never had their lunch but I will vouch for the breakfast menu. They have a 2 egg special that includes eggs, hash browns, meat(bacon/sausage), and choice of pancakes or toast for like 8 bucks. Can't beat that price. We went to Danby Station for the first time today- we live in Downers Grove, so it is a little out of the way, but it was worth the trip. We were greeted cheerfully and immediately, had a clearly experienced and thoughtful server that made sure we weren't rushed, and enjoyed tasty breakfast standards thoughtfully prepared and brought to the table piping hot. Danby Station has a marvelous charm to it, that of which not many places can achieve. The design and atmosphere created by the employees and topped off by the customers makes this place feel like home. This little café was meant to give an enjoyable atmosphere to those who choose to dine inside. It executes that purpose very well. Some positives of this place are certainly the well cooked food, cozy ambience, and a great staff. I can't really think of any negatives, unless you come with a biased view you will have a great time. This place has great staff that provide good service for its customers, the food they prepare tastes like home, it is very delicious and I will indeed come back again. Danby's Station is a great breakfast spot! they have high quality food at a reasonable price, and a awesome selection. It doesn't get much better than this. It's certainly breakfast oriented, but the lunch menu is quite expansive. The portions are great for the price -- for instance, I ordered a daily special (spinach pie). Not only did it come with a bowl, not cup, of soup and a very generous portion of fries, but also a delicious mixed greens salad (not limp iceberg and a tomato, no -- mixed greens, cabbage, goat cheese, kalamata olives and greek dressing). The waitresses are friendly and polite, and kept my coffee and water more than halfway full the whole meal. Went in the other day and got the "Texas Eagle Chicken Sandwich''. Overall I rate it a 9/10, cooked to perfection, flavorful, and came out in a reasonable amount of time.
