Went with average expectations and was highly impressed! Rollerskating staff are super friendly, and the food was amazing. Just pull up, order (have cash in hand!) and they will bring your food out in about 15 mins. It's all made to order, but worth the wait. I had a cheeseburger with fries. They no longer serve the lil burgers, when asked i was told because its hard to keep the small burgers from burning on the grill. So instead i got to pay $6 for a regular burger that was undercooked and pink all the way through. So pink that i had to throw it away as not to get sick, but my tater tots were of course overcooked so i guess that makes up for it. If you are visiting Bend-GO EAT A BURGER HERE! As you pull into a space, you will experience a time warp not to be missed. You flip on your lights to get service. (How long since that happened) Soon a cute young girl rolls up (on her roller skates) to your window and asks for your order. She's smiling, is friendly and efficient. (That's not too common now days either!). "Cheeseburger, fries and a coke, please", is my order, from a menu board nailed to the overhanging shade. Before she races off, she reminds me they don't take credit cards, (another throwback), and that it'll be a few minutes, since they cook each burger to order. I turn on my radio and gaze out at the other guests, sitting in their cars, doing the same thing (like I did as a teen, years ago). Eventually, my order is delivered by a speedy skater. Inside the foil wrapper, a hot, juicy burger, done perfectly, a bag of fries. Old school good and hot too. The fries have the right amount of salt and there's a portion of "fry sauce", New to me. Like old school Thousand Is. dressing. Memories of other burger joints in Bend fade away as I chomp happily on my Dandy. Lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, oh ya. I flip on my lights again to signal to one of the girls in the roller derby whizzing by that I'm finished, and up they roll, with another smile. As I pull out of the space, I leap back to the 21st century, but the memory of my 20th century lunch lingers in my mind and my pleasantly full stomach. Ah, there's one fry I dropped in my seat! Dandy's is a great local spot where you are served by enthusiastic young women on roller skates. That alone is reason to try Dandy's. I've been pretty happy with my burgers over the years, I always get the Grand Dandy and have to say that the bacon is always crisp and plentiful. That goes a long ways in my book towards greatness. They have fries, onion rings and TOTS to go with. I love tots and they do a great job making them just the way I like them, crispy. Their fry sauce is not great, but I'm not going to say no. I can always use ketchup. I'm a die hard ice cream fan and love chocolate malts. They've got these on the menu but to date they have always fallen short. Not very malty and not very chocolatey. It's a drive-in. And ultimately, I don't love eating in my car. Too hard to negotiate condiments. If you're in the neighborhood and considering a quick burger, I'm picking this place over the fast food chains every day of the week. Ok, I know, I know, I don't live in Bend...but we go there every year to visit family. So I have been checking into "good eats" in town, just to know what our options are when we get out there. I found a blog on the internet all about Bend Oregon Restaurants and thank goodness I did!! Dandy's sounded good and was highly rated, so we checked it out. Burger: Very fresh and delicious!!! Onion Rings: some of the best I've ever had, crispy and fresh! Fries: SOOOO crispy, just like I like them. Not one bit soggy. And the sauce they give you only adds to the flavor!! Service was good and the waitress was very sweet. (I always ask them what they think is good there and like to see how honest their answer seems) It had a very "small town" feel to it. Believe me, I am from the San Francisco Bay Area in Cali, and I am used to RUDE service! Only downside is eating in the car, they should have some outside tables. A local institution. Folks who decry Dandy's as overrated because the first burger they tried there didn't heal the sick or cause them to walk on water miss the point. Dandy's serves a tasty, simple, inexpensive burger with a distinctive flavor that you cannot get anywhere else. And they rollerskate it to your car; what's not awesome about that? I was born in raised in Bend, but I haven't lived there for a long time. Dandy's is on the (very) short list of places I make a point of eating whenever I'm in town because their food tastes like home. There is no substitute for a Dandyburger. They got FYAH burger for the low, and CHRONIC burgers for the high, these burgers got FLAVA it ain't no lie, almost taste so good could bring a tear to my eye. I don't know what the first reviewer was smoking the day she went here, but this place is awesome! I made a point to eat only at non-chain eateries on this trip back and forth to Spokane. This was the nicest surprise, just slipping in front of Big Jim's Drive In in The Dalles. In a nutshell: Good cheesburger...lots of flavor, good size patty, excellent condiments. Tasty fries...90 cents for a larger than expected small, good texture, available with fry-sauce. Excellent shakes...had a blackberry flavored one, and it even had chunks of real blackberries in it. When I want a great burger in Bend I go to Dandy's. Everything is fresh and delicious, as well as reasonably priced. A tasty burger, order of fries and a drink is only about $5. And if you aren't totally starving the Lil Dandy just might do the trick. I also like that Dandy's offers items other than burgers, such as grilled cheese, corn dogs and grilled ham and cheese. Their onion rings are absolutely perfect and definitely a portion size for 2 people (as is the large fry that's only $1.10). This place gets pretty busy at lunch time--and it can take a while for your food. But that's ok; we're in Bend. Just chill and thank me later. I have been coming here for 20 + years and today I had surgery and my tradition has always been when I go under the knife I get a Randy's cheeseburger and onion rings ,,,, but not today they screwed my prefer over so when I woke from surgery I up happily opened up a bag of not what I ordered . I then called to complain about the no cheer on my burger a d then argued with me and told me to. Ring back down..... First night and town and it's hubby's turn to pick dinner. Off we go to Dandy's. This is an old school drive in and not as "frilly" as Sonic, which is a good thing. The service was fast, (roller skates), the attendant was nice and the hamburgers were good. I wouldn't mind going back, however we would not order onion rings again. I love this place! Probably one of my favorite burgers in Bend, so far. You can't beat the prices, the quality is always great, and the food is freakin' consistent! (A concept a lot of places can't quite get down) We go here at least once a week (not gonna lie....probably more) and it's always "mmmmmm" inducing with every bite! Your waitress on wheels will take care of everything for you. You won't need to leave the comfort of your car. Even when it's pouring snow, these girls just power through on roller skates and still give you service with a smile. I can't say I'd be able to do that! I like Dandy's! I've been searching for a good greasy burger and Dandy's delivers. But be careful, if you're taking it to go and not eating it immediately, the little silver bags they put your burgers in will steam those bad boys which results in wet buns, and wilted and warm tomatoes and lettuce. Gross. The fries were alright, some were a bit on the well done side and most were soggy because it took ten minutes to get home. Nice service. A cheese burger, a bacon cheese burger, two small fries and two medium drinks for $16. CASH only and they close at 8pm. read more

Growing up in Bend,I have been a regular since Dandy's opened and tonight I will have to say that for the first time in a very very long time, I was truly disappointed in the meal we got. Flavor of the grand was just crap! Don't suppose it has anything to do with the New ownership of the change in the meal and bacon , but my wife is complaining about an upset stomach! Service was pretty fast. Economical Burgers are fantastic as was the blackberry milkshake I had. Unusual setting but very enjoyable. I ate there two days in a row---containers allow the sandwich to remain hot if you are taking it with you. Dandy's? My kids always used to call this "Skaters". As in, "Can we go to Skater's for dinner tonight? Pleeeeease?" Hmmmmm....not in my top three picks for Best Burgers in Bend, but an institution just the same. We hit up Dandy's about once a year. Someone will come into work with one and pretty soon everyone is in the mood for a Dandy Burger. But once a year is about all I can handle and I'm a burger junkie. I agree with all the reviewers before me. Sometimes it can just fit the bill (5 stars) and other times you think, "OMG....what was I thinking? That was a definite gut bomb!" (1 star) I would certainly recommend everyone TRY Dandy's just for the nostalgia of the skaters....although you can get that at Sonic now too....or the off chance you really do get that delicious burger. We had been driving for almost 8 hours and were craving a burger, so a quick Google search led us to Dandy's. It is similar to Sonic in that you can drive up, never get out of your car and someone on roller skates comes and takes your order, and brings you your food. The burgers are most excellent, we ordered a large order of tots (large order really honestly only fits one person), and no drinks and it was reasonably priced. I think we ended up paying approximately 13 bucks for our dinner. The burgers come with some sort of sauce on them, not sure what it is, but it was tasty and only added to the flavor of the burger. They only take cash though, no debit or credit, that is the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. As someone who very rarely carries cash it might have stopped me from going there if it wasn't the rare chance I did have cash on me. read more

Five stars might seem like high praise for a cheap and arguably gimmicky burger dive that doesn't accept cards and has a limited menu, but I'm hear to tell you that a Grand Dandy is magic. Oh, you can surely get a slightly better burger at a downtown restaurant, but not half as quickly or as cheaply. How?! How are Dandy's burgers as stupidly good as they are? I submit that witchcraft is employed, or otherwise some sort of devil's bargain has been made. I suppose it's possible there is a more mundane explanation, like "the Grand Dandy is the recovered recipe that was the result on a secret international organization's efforts into developing an inexpensive and euphoria-enducing food designed to subdue unrest." So that's four stars right there. The fifth star is summoned forth by Dandy's onion rings, fries and shakes (of which there are an untold number of flavors).
