Came here as my car wouldn't start in the morning one day. Dash came on, but the rest of the car wouldn't start-start. So, had AAA tow it here as it was within the 7 miles radius coverage. Within minutes, the guys were able to tell me that it was the starter that had broken down. I've had the car since 2011, but the car itself has been in production since 2008, so I'd say replacing a starter since 2008 (it's 2017 as of the timestamp on this review) is pretty damn good. But wait! Things get complicated, as they typically do for me with my car. I'm sure many car owners can relate ;) Alright, so apparently the battery charged just fine the night before, but right when they were about to give me my car back, the car wouldn't start. Odd, right? Dan tests the battery again, now it fails. OK, look, I'm not going to lie and say I didn't start doubting Dan at this point, but Dan is clearly customer-obsessed and asks that I call AAA, since the battery in my vehicle had a AAA sticker on it, so it'd be in my best interest as a customer to get my membership's worth. Shout to Dan for thinking of the customer this way! Alright alright, so I call AAA Battery Service, and they come out to Dan's Mobil in under an hour. The guy tests the battery, it tests "good" but upon further research... It's the wrong battery for my car. I'm not shitting you. BACKSTORY: So I've been a long time AAA member for as long as I've been an adult, which was in 2008. I moved to Phoenix, AZ in 2013 and moved back to California in 2017. If you think that AAA is a nationwide club, you're correct. However, if you think that all AAA clubs are the same by state in terms of service quality, I might start to question ya from my personal experience. When I lived in Phoenix, I went to a AAA Service Center in Scottsdale, AZ which is north of Phoenix, AZ by about 20-30 miles. There, I had an AAA battery put into my vehicle in early 2017. I didn't think too much about it, but I noticed after a while that there'd be some days where I would start my car and it would start fine. After some time driving around, the car would randomly shut off on its own. I took my car to several shops and no one could figure it out. After all, the battery itself tests fine right? Anyway long story short, fast forward to 2017, today, AAA Battery Service is like, "Yeah, they shouldn't have sold you this battery in Arizona, for one it's not made anymore and even when it was made, it isn't the right model for your car". So yeah, the dude from AAA helps me out and is like "yeah I'll call AAA internally and have them refund you, you'll have to pay for a new battery from Dan's but this refund should help cover some if not all of that cost hopefully". Dan was nice enough to not charge me any labor for the new battery. Apparently the battery was just a little over the cost of the refund that AAA gave me, but hey, a kind gesture is a kind gesture, and it ought to be recognized hence this 5 star review. Long story short, if you're looking for honest car repair work, go to Dan's. Other remarks: - I have no idea why other Yelp users gave this place a 1 star review. There was one I skimmed through that said something along the lines of being charged $15 a day for leaving the car there more than 3 days, and I'm like... Uh, why are you leaving your car there more than 1 day in the first place? But who knows, maybe I don't know the full story. All I know is, leaving a 1 star review because of something like that is a little bullshit to me. But I digress. - To get service, you have to step into the food mart first. It's nicely air conditioned inside - Someone wrote a 1 star review about this place not having good customer service. If you want to see the customer service awards Dan's Mobil has been given, walk inside the food mart and turn left immediately, you'll see a stand filled with many awards they've been given by various organizations, including AAA themselves. Went there for SMOG check. First impression was Tim is a good guy, but Dan is a very mean guy. I saw Jessie, Tim, and Dan there, only Tim talk with smile (like the official website shows). Dan is mean, no smile, rude, and demanding. Jessie act cool and talk-less. Anyway, my engine light was on I did not noticed, but they still do the SMOG anyway without telling me the engine light was on. They did saw the engine light was on, and the common sense says the SMOG will fail if the engine light was on. They did the test real fast, and tell me failed, and charge me $41 with their so called "$20 discount". I felt like I paid $41 for nothing, and that is not cool. He could just tell me that "your engine light is on, and it will not pass the SMOG. Do you want us to check your car first?" They didn't do that. They just run the test anyway. I know they knew my engine light was on because one guy told me after I paid. He said "yeah, it is failed because your engine light was on, it is connect to the system, and the system will not allow your car to pass the test." I asked him "Did you know my engine light was on before you start the test?" He said yes. I asked him why not tell me. He said because I asked for SMOG check, and they follow my instruction and do it. WTF! I would give ZERO star. The only reason I gave 2 stars has been Tim is a nice guy. read more

I would not recommend this place. I brought my car here to be tested and it failed by a small small margin. The shop were willing to retest the car, provided that I pay for a 129.99 Diagnostic test, and have all repairs done at the shop. Otherwise I would need to pay full price for another test. I have had my car smogged at various places in the Los Angeles area for years (as I lived out that way for a while), and this is not a normal practice for a reputable place. Something seemed off, that everything would pass but one a few point over NO(PPM), and their only answer was to pay another 129.99 for diagnostics, plus the work on whatever problem they would find. So I asked the mechanics in my family for their opinion, and then a few other mechanics, and they agreed it was a simple and common fluke, that did not need a diagnostics, and that more ethical smog places would have just told the car owner and retested. Then again, technically the shop is not obligated to retest, or to tell me a simple fix, and their offer for diagnostics and repair is also within bounds. They did offer CA help info, which they didn't have to do, but ethically speaking, I expected and hoped for more, and I was stupid enough to fall for this. Never again. read more

I learned about Dan's Mobil from Mark and Brian on KLOS. I was interested in trying them out because I had recently moved to Rancho and my awesome mechanic was too far away. I wasn't thrilled that I had to have an appointment. They were not willing to take a walk-in for a regular car service because they said they were too busy. I thought that might actually be a good thing - them being busy - and decided to give them a try anyway. The first time I went there to have my car serviced (used the Car Care Package coupon from their website), Tim was very helpful. While he was servicing my car, he found a few issues and took the time to show me when I picked up the car. He gave me an estimate of the cost of repairing the problems and followed-up with a detailed letter explaining the estimate. He recommended keeping an eye on the issue and fixing the problem the next time I came in to have the car serviced. When I finally took the car in for another regular service (I was really late) and to have the problems addressed, they asked to keep the car a little longer to re-check everything that was on the estimate. They called me later that day to tell me that the issue wasn't as significant as originally thought and they didn't feel that they needed to replace the parts. (The issue was with my front and rear differentials and if you know anything about cars, you know that can be very expensive - especially considering the fact that those parts on my car have to be special ordered!) He told me that my car was all ready to go - about 3 hours earlier than I anticipated. Being a woman taking a car into a mechanic's shop can be tricky. I might be able to check fluids, change a tire or jump-start a battery, but I definitely do not know a lot about cars! Dan's Mobile could have easily told me that I needed to replace the differentials and charged me a fortune, but they didn't. I've seen some less-than stellar reviews for Dan's Mobile and it is evident that some were not satisfied, but so far I've had a positive experience. I plan to continue to go to Dan's Mobile and have even recommended them to my friends and family. You definitely want to ask for Tim! Dan sets the gold standard for smog checks and customer service!!!! A mechanic friend of mine referred me for my smog check and what a revelation!!! I called setting up an 9:30 a.m. appointment, I arrived early and John brought in a chair so I could sit inside and be comfortable while Dan took care of my car. As customer's came in for gas, coffee or snacks John welcomed each person usually by name, I was impressed. The mechanics bay was packed with vehicles, buzzing with activity and still Dan was able to smog my car in a timely manner. Also, Dan took the time to answer all of my questions. We decided to drive to Southern California to spend Christmas with my husband's family. As we were in California, we noticed our breaks were making a weird noise, so we decided it would be best to get them looked at and/or fixed before we made the drive home through the Rocky Mountains. Here's the kicker: It was Friday, December 23rd at 1pm. Every shop in town was closing down for the holiday weekend. I called and spoke with Dan. He informed me that he had sent all of his guys home early for the holiday. Bummer. Then, as I was trying to call other mechanics in the area, he called me back and said he'd stay open for us. We rushed over and they fit us in immediately. Tim took the swagga' wagon for a test drive and brought it back. Tim is a super-friendly guy who knows his stuff! He then looked at the breaks and he and Dan decided that they were just dusty from the drive to CA, so they cleaned them off and rechecked our fluids and did a once-over to make sure everything was in tip-top shape for the drive home. Tim even brought us into the garage to show us our break pads and gave us an explanation as to why it was making the noise. They easily could have told us we needed new breaks and we would have paid them because we're completely clueless when it comes to car mechanics. Not only did they NOT take advantage of us, they treated us like family and got us back on the road. Since we live in Colorado, I can't thank Dan's Mobile by becoming a regular customer. I can, however, suggest that you all give them a try! They're friendly, honest and their customer service was fantastic! This other shop informed me my car had all sorts of issues and my bill was going to be over $1000. Don't let the bad reviews fool you. People always have something to complain about when it comes to sometimes costly auto service. As a former employee and regular customer, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car. The fact of the matter is these are all highly trained professionals that know what they are doing. It's hard these days to find a shop that is upfront and honest about repairs like these guys are. Most shops will quote a small amount only to run up the bill later. These guys look at the bigger picture and come up with a quote that more accurately reflects the level of work required. They tend to be a little pricier than most shops. But you are definitely paying for quality service and not for some amateur to duct tape your car back together. You can also know you are supporting a small business with a strong regular customer base. These people come back because they know that Dan runs a fantastic business that supports it's community. Update: after posting my review, I was contacted directly by Dan & spoke with him at length. He was incredibly apologetic for his words & I accepted his apology because I understand that everyone has a bad day. I'm incredibly remiss in posting this update though (my bad). As I explained to Dan, my concern wasn't just for me as the customer. As someone who has worked in the customer service industry for years, my main concerns were in relation was to the tone & treatment that he gave to his employees that concerned me the most. He was extremely apologetic and relayed to me that he had apologized to everyone involved. If I have another issue arose with my vehicle, I will give them another chance. I believe in giving people/businesses second chances & all. A lot of my friends and family members have used Dan's Mobil in the past for their vehicles and none of them had anything negative to say about Dan and/or his service techs. I've opted to upgrade the rating I gave them from two stars to four, because once the yelp review posted, Dan was very proactive in talking with me about my experience. Even though I did get the issue handled somewhere else, he did provide excellent customer service in the following weeks & I do believe he sincerely regrets his choice of words that day. ******************************************************************* I came to Dan's Mobil last Saturday (8/13/16) because I needed a new battery for my vehicle. They were very helpful in procuring a new battery & had it installed within 50 minutes. I appreciated their help and expedience with this issue & I'd like to say I left a happy customer but that's not the case. After paying and driving less than a mile, I realized my front air conditioning system/module/vents were not working while the 2nd/3rd row vents were. When the vehicle was brought down with a mostly dead battery, it was working just fine. I immediately brought it back and explained the situation to both Stephanie and then Wayne. Both were apologetic and Wayne explained that he had no idea what the problem could be (Stephanie told me she had an Enclave as well and had never had this issue with her vehicle). Wayne said they would be unable to get to it that day, as it was a Saturday and already nearing noon (they close around 1 or 2pm on Saturday). I told him I completely understood, as I'm not an entitled a**hole who demands they stay and fix it immediately. Wayne explained that he needed to research the issue & speak with the other technicians to troubleshoot the problem. He promised to call me on Monday morning to see if the issue had resolved itself. It didn't. That Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, temperatures here in Alta Loma were 100-plus degrees & stayed that way he majority of the week. Wayne called me around 9.45am Monday morning to see if the problem was persisting. I verified that it was and he said, into the phone and speaking to someone else in their shop, "Dan, she's still having the problem with her a/c". "Dan's" reply said it all to me--"well, I don't know what she expects me to do about it; I don't know how the hell to fix it!" That response told me all that I needed to know about this repair shop. Instead of saying, hey, I don't know how to fix it or what the issue is, let's have her bring it down & we can run a diagnostic on it & go from there, "Dan" instead decided to act like a petulant five year having a temper tantrum. Wayne then told me, in a subdued and apologetic voice, that they still needed to "research"'how to fix the problem and that they would post in online mechanics forums to see if others techs have encountered this problem. He promised to call me back Tuesday (8/16/16) and I never heard back from them. I called them but could never get a return phone call in the following days. As soon as the call was over, I called my local dealer and spoke to a service advisor and a service tech. Both told me what they thought the problem would be & how much it would be to run a diagnostic to find out for sure. Since their pricing was out of my price range, I asked online in one of our Rancho fb groups for help/advice. So many people recommended Rancho Autocare, which is where I'm currently at & having the problem fixed. The website for Dan's Mobil states that they provide service for air conditioning. They should probably amend that to say they will add/replace freon & charge your a/c but not take any steps to help out on an issue that occurred only after the vehicle was left in their care. The only reason why I gave them two stars was for the expedient battery replacement--can't beat 50 minutes of service for that. However, after their subsequent crappy customer care for an issue that was secondary & began while the vehicle was in their possession, I will never, ever purchase their overpriced fuel or have any service done on my vehicles again. I had an overheating problem on the 210 freeway in my 13 y/o BMW. I was towed to Dan's Mobil late in the evening on a Wednesday. I was not pleased with the prospect of having work done on my car by any outside shops, but I didn't have a choice here since coolant had leaked completely out of my car. The next AM at 9:30 I got a call from Dan's with the assessment with a clear explanation from friendly Dylan. I got an estimate of the cost and time to complete the work. I received a call from Dylan with an update each AM and PM as to the status of the repairs on my car. The costs were explained to me in detail. Dylan called me on Saturday (2 days later) to let me know the car repair was complete, but that I needed a new thermostat. The mechanic thought I could probably drive the car home. So, I started off for the 40-mile drive home and, once again, my car overheated. I drove back to Dan's and they did a little more investigation. Jesse, the mechanic on duty, thought that I needed a new water pump, but it was late on Saturday and he couldn't complete the repairs that day. Jesse loaned me their shop truck to drive myself home that afternoon - I had taken Uber there. I returned the shop truck to Dan's the next day when I met the tow truck to tow my car to my home mechanic. My mechanic confirmed that all the repairs done by Dan's garage were appropriate and very reasonably priced. This was amazing customer service and kindness on the part of all of Dan's staff. I wish Dan's Mobile was closer to me so I could use them. I am so impressed with their treatment of me - a total stranger - and their honesty. read more

I'm a retired Automotive Tech teacher, and every time I get a smog test I think to myself, "I really need to write a review on Yelp". Well here goes. The whole group of people that work with Dan are great folks. Dan too for that matter, and as a teacher and volunteer for youth, I really appreciate that he gives back to youth activities as well. They are always helpful beyond the call of duty. Honesty is a big deal to me and I appreciate they are straight forward and thorough. I do all my own work, but with that said, I have been on the other side of the desk too. And I know no one likes car bills but they are a fact of life. Some people don't even WANT to know what services should be performed to keep them safe from accidents and engine failure. That has always been beyond my understanding. I needed a smog check. Tim was pleasant and friendly on the phone and in person. We got there and waited 1 hour only to be told that his "smog machine" wasn't working properly, but it should work in 20 mins. He left it up to me to decide if I want to stay 20 additional minutes.Nice, but why did I have to wait for 1 hour??? I got in my car and never came back. I went to the 76 station on Haven and Lemon (Mc Donalds, Trader Joes area) and they were FAST! In and out. I was surprised to see such bad ratings of this place on yelp but it got rave reviews when I searched it online. I was really hesitant to come here but it was close to home and AAA approved. So, I believe that you should give credit where credit is due. Tim in the service department is one of the nicest most honest mechanics I've met. He met with me a smile talked to me on a real level, a friend not a mechanic. I came for a smog check, but was having problems with my check engine light. During his testing, he noticed it come on and came over and talked to me about it. He went above and beyond by trying to figure it out. He knew that my car was OK for the smog check (some mechanics will automatically fail you) and suggested some things for the check engine light. After I left, my friend who happens to be a mechanic figured out that the check engine light was on due to the gas cap not being screwed back on correctly during the check. In the end, I was really pleased with the service I got form Tim and will return because for someone who works in boutique retailing, I think his customer service is excellent! read more

DAN THE SCAM!!! Buyers beware! Got gas on Monday (memorial day) and noticed my car didn't feel the same after buying a full tank of gas (91 octane) at dans Mobil first I thought maybe something was wrong with my fuel pump and I took it apart and at the same time took a sample of the gas I had just bought from my tank and tested it turns out it gave me 89 octane instead of 91 for the price of 91... my car takes premium fuel only and that's why it wasn't running right it beyond disgusted that anyone would do such a thing...lesson learned DONT BUY GAS FROM A PLACE THAT ALSO FIXES CARS!! Shady business going on I'd be hesitant to buy gas there again let alone let them fix my car. read more

I made an appointment to have my smog checked and my oil changed at Dan's. After we talked for a little bit, the service techs said my car didn't need an oil change at this time, which saved me some money! Their smog testing was quick and efficient and the prices were reasonable. I visited their website and used a $20 off voucher to save money on the smog testing.
