Wow, is this place a find. Dan has created a menu from guest favorites and his imagination, that will keep you coming back for Good Grub. While not actually a "shack", the restaurant is cozy and I'm told often has a wait. It's worth the wait. We had a Macaroni Bacon Cheeseburger, BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich, and the kids' meal hamburger. The sandwiches as good as they sound (yes, even the kids' meal hamburger was very well prepared). Dan was on hand and a very friendly guy. He'll help you with your order and make you realize you are supporting a family-owned business. If you're visiting the mid-state area or just passing through town, The Grub Shack is definitely a place to enjoy.

We were back in Atascadero today and this time we intentionally sought out Dan's. Like our first visit, it was terrific, and we had a great late-afternoon dinner. First, service was awesome. Our server was incredibly friendly, welcoming both us and our dog, bringing her a big bowl of water along with our glasses. Then, she made sure we could order a special beef patty for her as well. We appreciate a place with a patio that not only allows dogs, but serves them as well. A+ for service! I ordered the brisket BBQ sandwich, no onions, and my wife ordered the kids grilled cheese and fries. My sandwich was huge, and prepared perfectly! The brisket was finely shredded and juicy, with cheddar cheese and just enough BBQ sauce on it to be delicious. (Also had BBQ sauce on the side.) The bread was soft and hearty. I enjoyed every bite. My wife's grilled cheese was served on thick slices of white bread with plenty of cheese. The fries were delicious as well, battered and fried so they were extra crispy. All in all, a terrific meal! The patio is small, only 2 tables just outside in the concrete hallway; nothing fancy. We were happy that it meant we could have our dog with us. Our server paid great attention, though as soon as we arrived, several other cars sent patrons inside the restaurant. We've had two great visits here and we will for sure be back!

Came here to try them out again. We ordered fish and chips and the bacon macaroni cheeseburger. The waitress was nice. Food did not take long to get. The fish and chips came out first. The flavor was good but the fish was overcooked and it was alittle tough. Then the burger came out. It was alittle greasy and over salted but the flavors were there. Just seemed over priced for what you got. Honestly not sure if we will be back.

Fabulously fresh, hot out of the fryer, potato chips.

After moseying our day away wine tasting, my only thought was get to Dans. This was my only chance, since Dan's is not exactly convenient for us to drop in at whim. Great vibe here, and even better food! The old man saw the Meatloaf sandwich on Dutch crunch roll, and he stopped in his tracks. It was a good meatloaf recipe. I simply needed a good Bacon Cheese Burger. It was a great, basic burger, cooked to temp. We ordered one as a meal so we could try out those homemade potato chips. Delicious! You must not ignore these. And frankly, the onion rings were also so much better than most. Great service and great food. Glad we tried them.

Best blue cheese salad dressing I've had in a long time. The Blue on Blue salad is simple but very good. Fish and chips were basic. Fish tasted fresh but not especially flavorful. French fries were the breaded type, and I'm not a great fan of Frozen breaded fries. Service was fast and extremely friendly. Convenient parking.

Seeing some solid reviews on Yelp, my friends and I decided to try out Dan's The Grub Shack. There is plenty of parking outside the strip mall that the restaurant is in. The restaurant itself is pretty small on the inside and out, but has a lot of decorations on the wall which add a bit of character. It was empty when we got there, so it was a pretty quiet ambiance. The customer service was great, we were greeted as we got in, and they happily checked in on us several times. The issues we had with Dan's The Grub Shack come from the food, which was really a major let down. The Yelp reviews and photos look great, but what we got did not look or taste great. My friends and I ordered their Macaroni Bacon Cheeseburger and BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. The Mac and cheese in the burger did not have much flavor, the patty was very thin, over cooked, and overly seasoned, and the bread did not pair very well. The BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich had similar problems, and didn't have much flavor. We were really bummed with our experience and although the customer service was good, the food was just not it. I will never stop hearing from my friends about Dan's The Grub Shack.

This is our second time getting Dan's grub shack. Last time I tried the Mac and cheese burger. It was good but way too much cheese for my liking. I thought I would never say that. I thought there was going to be more than just the patty and cheese. It just tastes like a cheese burger. This time I got a cheese burger and fry. My husband got chicken strips, French fries and a side of onion rings on the side. The food was okay. Very basic nothing special. The fries are amazing. They seem to be triple fried. That are delicious. My husband said his chicken strips taste like frozen chicken strips. The food is also very overpriced for the quality. We paid almost $65 for this. Might be back for the fries. But that's about it. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The service was amazing!

When we are looking for our comfort food fix we head to Dan's. They have great special creations and their normal menu has a little something for everyone. Last night we got the New Yorker special and the Macaroni hot dog. Both were amazing! The waitress was awesome and very tentative. We love the mom and pop vibe where we can see the cook cooking away and even coming around to the dining area. It really gives you that home cooked feel.

We stopped here on an overland trip from So Cal to the central coast, and it was awesome! I got the Danimal burger over lettuce instead of a bun, it has linguica and hillbilly sauce. My son got a burger and it was giant and flavorful. Everything was great and the service was friendly and helpful.

I could barely see the pastries in the case. No worries though, I saw what I came in for. Purchased a French baguette for $3.70. Beyond amazed at the price. Excited to have some with my coffee, I ripped off a piece almost immediately and noticed the nice crust on the outside. 5 stars for the crust!! As for the flavor, it seemed a little flat. It was lacking some of the wheaty-tangy flavor you would get from a longer prove/fermentation. The inside of it was also missing all those nice deep pockets you see in a French baguette. Overall, not a bad baguette, but not one that you yearn for. I'd like to mention the young lady Annabel I had the privilege of meeting outside of the bakery. She was on a delivery run, but told me about their IG page, and we had a wonderful chat about cookies. Thank you for your time, Annabel, you are awesome!

That seems popular and everyone sitting near me, was eating the almond one.

They also offer a Queen's Tea served in the charming backyard, which looked absolutely adorable and made for some wonderful photos. The outdoor seating has a cozy garden feel, with an Alice in Wonderland vibe, while the High Tea room inside is intimate, with just four tables. One table seats four guests, and the other three seat two each. During our visit, it seemed like nearly every table was celebrating a birthday, which added to the festive atmosphere. Atmosphere and decorations are off the chart. We started by choosing our tea from a full page of loose-leaf tea selections. Each tea arrived in an adorable little teapot with a beautiful china teacup. Shortly afterward, we were served a small coleslaw, followed by the classic three-tiered tea tray. The tray included a lovely assortment of finger sandwiches, fresh scones with clotted cream and jam, crumpets with additional preserves, and a top tier filled with miniature pastries and macarons. The portions were just right, leaving you with a sweet finish without feeling overly full. High Tea was $50 per person, which we felt was well worth it for the experience. I'm not sure of the current price for the Queen's Tea. Be sure to leave a little time to browse the gift shop before you go. It's filled with everything tea lovers could want, including beautiful loose-leaf teas, charming teaware, and the cutest fascinator hats. There are also plenty of picture-perfect spots throughout the property, and don't skip the restroom...it's worth a peek!
