I went to Dao for dinner today and got the Shrimp Dumpling, Pan-Fried Shrimp & Chives Dumpling, Scallion Pancake along with the Beef Chow Fun. I think the dim sum dishes were pretty good, but the main dish was little lacking. All the dim sum dishes came out quickly and were a good level of crispness. The pan fried shrimp and chives dumplings and har gow were both had some tasty fillings. The Har gow were a bit larger than usual as well. The scallion pancakes were thin but a little hard. The beef chow fun took longer to come out and the noodles were clumping together and too salty. The ambiance in Dao is more elevated and modern than the usual dim sum spot, but it does cost a little more. I think the prices are still very reasonable for ktown. Overall, if you're looking for dim sum in the area, I'd recommend Dao. read more

1st off - terrible service. Very rude and not professional. Went to Lunch with a colleague and we wanted to split the bill. We were leaving an 18% tip which was fair for a lunch. THEY REFUSED THE TIP AND SAID THEY WONT ACCEPT PAYMENT AT ALL UNLESS IT WAS 20% OR MORE. they were so rude. Especially since they were rude sitting us, did not bring us out drinks until the food came, and never checked in. 18% was even generous. Then we finally stood ground and shared that tip is customer's choice even after the rude service, they finally took payment from us. They charged me the entire bill and then still charged the 2nd card. So they OVERCHARGED US after we left. I have the receipt to prove that one card was only to be charged $70 and the receipt was to prove it and then on my bank statement MORE WAS CHARGED LATER FROM THE RESTAURANT AND MORE WAS CHARGED ON MY COLLEUGES CARD. It's one thing to provide bad service but to OVERCHARGE LATER AFTER THE INITIAL TRANSACTION ON THE CARD. They are thieves, rude and liars. I wish I never went into this restaurant. It was good but not really HK style which I remember has more shrimp in the filling. The wonton is good size and you get 5 pieces with veggies. The shrimp dumpling 蝦姣 is excellent. Great size and delicious. Mango sago pomelo soup is my favorite dessert. Is hard to find in midtown do I am happy. It tastes good. Just need a bit of ingredients in proportion with the about of soup. Service is 4 stars. Minus one star as I had to ask for the free shrimp dumpling even though my order was $19. I would come back to try other dishes. The food was incredibly delicious, well seasoned, fresh, plentiful! My friends and I went there last Friday for lunch. We stayed close to 4 hours, eating a wide assortment of items, in the beautiful, ultra clean atmosphere! We had scallion pancakes, lamb chops, chicken, spicy tofu, rice dishes and assorted vegetable offerings. Being such healthy food, we didn't feel overstuffed, just very satisfied. We ended the meal with hot rose flavored tea......the perfect ending to a great selection of foods! The staff is beyond accommodating, friendly, superb customer service. Two months shy of opening Dao DimSum has many customers who are Asian. This to me is a good sign. Today I yearned for dumplings and had three restaurants on my calendar. Dao DimSum won. The menu has both DimSum and larger entrées at prices in the $20 range. The Signature DimSum Platter for $22.99 had nine pieces which included black truffle, duck and crabmeat. If I had ordered this then I wouldn't have had an appetite for anything else. Instead I chose pork soup dumplings, Har Gow and Crispy Roasted Duck Rolls. The soup dumpling wrapper was a little thick but had enough soup inside. Three large shrimp dumplings were tasty. The duck rolls seemed unusual and not particularly tasty so I ordered pan fried turnip cakes which I took home as I hadn't realized how stuffed I had become. I drank chilled water with my meal although the beers looked tempting. The interior is warm with artifacts and lights. There is a gender neutral restroom at the back which was clean but needs more attention with supplies. The servers were friendly and efficient. Was in town for a few days and wanted to eat Asian food. Stumbled upon this location and since it was early, we were the only people in the restaurant. We got to sit in what we called a giant egg chair. It is a really cool space and the decor was simple but on point either the type of food. We ordered a bunch of different dumplings and you definitely get enough. All the food came out hot and ready to eat. I appreciated them telling us what sauces went with each food, instead of letting us figure it out. They also do drinks in cans and bring you a glass with ice. My kids love this, as they feel like they can control their drinks not getting watered down. I would not hesitate to eat here again or even order to-go. The food was decent, but I experienced food poisoning shortly after eating here. I can't say for sure what caused it, but I suspect the shrimp in the siu mai may not have been fully cooked. It tasted rubbery. Also, I noticed the restaurant offers free dessert to customers who leave positive reviews, which might explain the all of five-star ratings on Google. I work near the restaurant and the area is quite expensive, so I was looking for some food options that wouldn't break the bank. The service is basic; nothing special, but they could be more pleasant in my opinion. My first order was beef chow fun, which was good. Not amazing, but definitely decent for $15. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and was seated promptly. We ordered the Lo mein with shrimp (the noodles were flavorful and amazing, the shrimp less so), barbecue pork buns (very yummy) and Shanghai soup dumplings (also yummy but the soup poured out of them as soon as I lifted them from the tray- had to be very careful in my maneuvering to get them to stay intact). This place was a great find!! Wandering around the area, we happened upon this place. The crispy roasted duck rolls was unbelievable!!! We actually ordered a 2nd round. We tried several dishes and our 2nd favorite was the Beef with Black Pepper Roll. The puff around the beef was light and flakey and was super delicious!! The scallion pancakes were also super good. I stumbled upon this restaurant during my recent visit to NYC. What an absolute gem! There was a happy hour that reeled me in. I wasn't expecting too much but I was very pleasantly surprised how amazing the food was. I ordered Mongolian beef, General Tso beef, stir fried chicken with onions, hot & sour soup and a few dim sum items. The entire family LOVED the food. This says a lot because my kids are extremely picky eaters. The service was friendly and attentive. I wish I had taken more pictures but we ate everything rather quickly. The interior is casual, comfortable, and tasteful. It's definitely not a hole in the wall. No need to venture out to Chinatown to enjoy authentic and delicious Chinese food. Today, for lunch, I decided to try Dao. After previously dining at Dim Sum Go Go and now at Dao, I have decided that I really don't like dim sum. I arrived there around 1:00 PM, and there were a few people there - not that busy. However, people kept coming in for take-out. I have a feeling that is their primary financial resource. The tables and booths are comfortable and well spaced. I ordered 2 glasses of a nice CA chardonnay which was well priced at $10. I also ordered the dim sum platter, which was enough food for 2 people, but really underwhelming. It looks so attractive but, in actuality, most of the dishes are very similar. Five of them consisted of shrimp, and one of them was some kind of custard. (I really don't like Chinese desserts - bland and boring). The other 3 dishes, whatever they were, were not very exciting. I managed to get through about 2/3 of the food but, at the end, I didn't really feel satisfied. The staff were generally attentive and the service was fine. I have to question the cleanliness of the place though The floor throughout, even the kitchen, wasn't very clean, and there was a lot of dirt all over around the edges. I may return to try one of their lunch specials, but overall I was a little disappointed with this place. read more

I got the mushroom truffle dumplings and it wasn't too my taste. The dumplings were too gooey, though I'm not sure if this is the style. Very calm atmosphere, which was perfect with my rose tea.
