Come to the Casbah because it is sensational! Quite by accident today I found myself in this delightful restaurant with delicious food. It was an extremely pleasant departure from our regular food choices which is always an added pleasure for a foodie! I choose to have the Chicken Bastilla which is baked layers of thin pastry stuffed with chicken strips, roasted almonds, eggs and herbs. It was simply delicious. It arrived looking like dessert because it was covered with powered sugar and some almonds but it was a savory item and highly enjoyable. The nice thing about it is that it comes in 2 different sizes. I had the small size so please keep this in mind when viewing the picture below. My parents each choose to have one of the lunch specials featuring Chicken kabob in a pita. They enjoyed it very much as well. We topped off our meal by having tea with mint and it was truly excellent. It arrived very elegantly presented and was a special treat for this tea lover who loves tea rituals of every type. First time trying Moroccan food and it was a success! I had heard about Dar Tajine from a coworker and today we finally gave it a shot. Dar Tajine is a cute little Moroccan restaurant with comfortable seating and authentic decor. Not sure if this is how it usually is, but it was a pretty slow day so we were seated and served right away. We started with salad and homemade Moroccan bread. I love this bread!! The garlic butter, tomato spice sauce, and olive trio were very tasty. The salad was also quite flavorful. I ordered the kafta Tajine that was absolutely fantastic! I'd never had Tajine before but the clay pot it came in was quite a sight and really interesting. It comes with a side of rice and the Tajine has a ton of little kafta balls in the stew. Really yummy. I didn't get a chance to taste their assortment of desserts but their platter looked so good! I definitely want to come back. Organized a meetup here and it was a great success! Our server was the owner's sister and she made us feel right at home. She brought our water without us asking (proactive) took our orders promptly and our food was out at am appropriate time. I ordered the beef tajine. And my gosh reminds me so much of cooking from back home. Hot and full of flavor. It came with vegetables and rice- perfect sides. Everyone seemed very pleased with their dish. I broke my own rule by trying this place for the first time by take out - and it did not disappoint me! When trying a place for the first time, I usually like to dine in to get a complete feel for a restaurant- and also to be able to give it a fair review. Sometimes, food just isn't as good and piping hot when it's taken to go. I got the tomato soup and beef couscous and thought both were really delicious. I highly recommend both. Also got an assorted bag of cookies for $4.99. The only cookie I would ask for again was the chocolate and sesame one, reminded me of Halvah. I'm actually glad I did take out because the restaurant was empty, which I thought was weird for a Friday night. Had I gone there to dine in, I might have been weirded out or urned off by that. There are good reasons to eat here, but we left disappointed. Some of the appetizers were t available at 5:30 on a Friday.. We shared a delicious roasted eggplant starter, and a tasty chicken pie. The lamb kebabs, however, were pretty bad. The bed of rice was delicious, but the lamb had the consistency of overcooked leftovers, dry and tough, almost impossible to cut and chew. It tasted good. But there's no excuse for this. For a Moroccan restaurant to serve that awful lamb, which should be terrific, is unforgivable. The service is warm and the setting attractive and comfortable. Our waitress did something odd, however, in clearing off the table and bringing the check while one of us was still eating. We had a great family dinner here. Hidden in a strip mall in Plantation, it does not look like much from the outside. But once you enter, you realize that Dar Tajine is a standout of the plaza. Impeccably decorated with Moroccan decor and with Moroccan music videos playing in the background, you feel like you've been transported to somewhere in Morocco. Everything we had was delicious, but the mint tea, lamb tajine, and Chicken Bastilla stand out. Prices were reasonable and the service was great. We plan on coming back again soon! read more

This is a tucked away mom and pop restaurant. If you are in the rush this is not the place. It's an intimate dining experience. The restaurant does not serve alcohol. If you have a party of more than 4 make a reservation. It's a family staff and it would help your experience if you gave them the heads up. This place is awesome. It felt like home! It was my first time having Moroccan cuisine so I do not have anything to compare it to. However, I have had Persian and Middle Eastern cuisine and the flavors were very similar. The atmosphere is personal and quaint. Not a very large restaurant so the service is very personalized and family oriented. It makes you feel like home. The middle eastern decor is cute. The tables are along the walls with couches and chairs which makes it very cozy. The servers are so sweet and accommodating. They serve you as if you were visiting their home for the first time. They started us off with a mint tea and Moroccan bread. The tea is relaxing and settling. The Moroccan bread was served warm with a garlic butter, olives and herbs, and a pepper tomato based sauce (similar to a chutney). The Moroccan bread is lovely, we had 2 orders. For starters we had the chicken bastilla and salad. The salad came with our entrees. The garden salad was served with a light herbed olive oil based dressing and it started the meal off nicely. The chicken bastilla is shredded chicken layered with a nutty topping, baked and served with powdered sugar, cinnamon, and almonds. It was very flavorful. A sweet and savory treat. We then ordered the chicken tangine, veggie tangine, and lamb shank tangine. The entrees came in beautiful clay dishes, the presentation was lovely. The meats were moist, and stewed to perfection with olives, and served with a saffron rice. Everything was flavorful, amazing and traditional. I truly enjoyed my time here. I went there with my family on a weeknight around 6pm. There was one other party. The waiter was friendly and helpful. The decor is relaxing and gives an authentic Moroccan environment. It is relaxing. The menus full of options of Moroccan classic. Very reasonable prices and good portions. The Moroccan harira soup is amazing. Tomato based with lentils chickpeas creamy soup. I got the appetizers platter which offered so many great starters. The chicken briwat so delightful flaky rolls full of chicken The half chicken tajin is amazing as it is so juicy on indulge and the olive sauce with it is full of flavor. The beef tajin so tasty with chunks of veggies and beef chunks that are cooked to perfection melts in your mouth. The chicken bastilla is packed with flavors including chicken wrapped in a light filo This place is a hidden gem. This is our second time here and we order the same thing . I order the chicken Tajine and my friend orders the chicken kabobs. We were served Moroccan bread with some white sauce and red sauce the bread was warm and the sauces were very very good ,this is something we look forward too every time we come . The food is very good and definitely taste like home cooking which is a plus . When I first visited Spain I was engulfed by a cornucopia of incredibly beautiful women and culture. But when I took a ferry from Algeciras to Tangiers my eyes discovered a different kind of beauty, beauty in modesty. I swear to god all the Moroccan women on the ferry looked like pre-plastic surgery Kim Kardashian, I was in heaven, and none of them were wearing that bee suit, they just had their hair covered. Unfortunately for me, I only had a half a day in Tangiers before I had to return to Spain, and I was to busy touring the bazaars and ancient structures to even think about food. So today while searching for an alternative for Chinese BBQ seeing Dar Tajine pop up on the yelp app was a pleasant surprise. One of my biggest turn offs is when ethnic restaurants don't appear nor have an ethnic feel, and Dar Tajina certainly doesn't disappoint.Walking into this place I felt like I had entered an old North African medina. Being I've never had Moroccan before, browsing through the menu was a treat. I decided on a mint tea, half chicken tajine and a bakkoula salad. I was given a complimentary salad and pita bread with garlic/butter dip. Both of them were fresh and tasty, the garlic butter dip had a slight mayonaisse-y feel but I still enjoyed it. Dar Tajina - it's served and cooked in a ceramic pot. It wasn't bad at all, I enjoyed it, the flesh fell off of the bone much like good BBQ. The olives also put a real fine touch to the gravy's flavor, but there wasn't enough gravy in the pot. Bakkoula - when the server brought this out, I had to ask what the hell is that? She said it was the salad I ordered... I was like OK...But I swear to god it looked like something served in a Klingon restaurant. I was hesitant on my first 1/4 mouthful, but it was actually quite pleasant and tasty, I would definitely order it again. Tea - usually I never write about drinks unless it's liquor. But this tea was divine, not only in it's subtle sweet minty flavor, but it's purely Moroccan presentation. Service was friendly but kind of clueless. I was given an extra plate, but she gave it to me wet, I had to wipe it down myself. Initially I was the only person in the restaurant, and I had to ask the server if they didn't play Moroccan music? She then went over and turned on the music that was streamed from an Ipad. The server also had some issue with a password in accessing the credit card machine. When I walked in, the lady looked a bit perplexed, perhaps because I was by myself (on business travel). There was only one other couple in there, and once they finished it was just me. A bit awkward, but that's okay. Decent interior. Plenty of decor to give the Moroccan feel. The lamb Tajine I ordered was pretty good, but I would stop short of spectacular. Nice and tender, though. They served rice on the side, as well as a basic salad and some nice thick bread with two dipping sauces (one like a garlic mayo and the other spicy). All in all, a decent place to try. read more

Pita bread is served to the table. The menu has meat and vegitarian dishes. There are many tvs playing videos and music. I was able to sit on the comfy couch with the pillows, so comfortable. Moroccan or any kind of North African cuisine is exceedingly rare in Florida. So when I hear about a place like this opening I absolutely have to go try it. Unlike other cuisines of the Arabic and Muslim world, Moroccan cuisine has very complex spicing and has been influenced by not just the cuisines of Europe but all over Africa, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Asia due to it being a center of trade since it was established by the Phoenicians and later Carthage and then as an Arab nation. So the flavors and the dishes are quite different and highly distinctive from other cuisines in the middle eastern region. So far we've been here twice, once by ourselves and once with another couple, and we love the place. On our first visit we started with a traditional mint tea which by default is sweetened with a good amount of sugar -- so if you don't want it that way make sure you tell the server. The presentation is beautiful in silver pots and a silver tray, with small glass cups. It's typical to get tea or coffee (which we had on the second visit, it's made Arabic style which is like Turkish or Greek coffee but has cardamom spice in it, wonderful) at the end of the meal but we had it at the beginning. For a starter we ordered a Harira soup which is the national dish of Morocco and is especially popular during Ramadan. It's a type of vegetable soup with chickpeas and noodles. Initially we were rather disappointed in the spicing and thought it was bland and underseasoned but we later found out the server scooped it out from the top of the pot which was more watery instead of stirring it up from the bottom. The owners -- a very nice young couple -- sent me home with a much spicier portion which I enjoyed for lunch the next day and they will be rectifying that for future patrons. They are very receptive to criticism/suggestions and are eager to please their customers. They hug and kiss everyone as if you are returning family. That's a very Moroccan thing, hospitality is huge in that culture. We originally wanted to get the Bastilla which is a savory phyllo pastry stuffed with eggs, spiced chicken or seafood, they ran out of these during lunch because they are crazy popular. My suggestion is that If you want them, reserve a table the night or a few days before and let them know how many you want. For our main dish we got the Kofte Tagine which is served in the traditional ceramic dish. It's little marble sized meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce with cracked egg on top. This comes with a wonderful salad with an incredible lemon herb vinaigrette. The meatballs are very dense, nicely spiced and are really good quality halal beef. These are served with a yellow saffron rice which is very good, but you also have the option of getting a spicy rice pilaf that is cooked with tomato and red pepper which we did not initially get to try (and was not told about by our server on the first visit) but we had it on the return visit and we all liked it as equally as the yellow saffron rice. So if you come with a few people get some of both. On our return visit we ordered some other dishes, a roast leg of lamb which came adorned only in its own pan juices, a special for the weekend on Ramadan. Everyone loved it. It's a must order if it's available. We also got a beef tagine cooked with prunes and topped with almonds, which was very beefy and fall apart delicious. The seafood tagine was in a harissa and tomato sauce and had just the right amount of spiciness, shellfish cooked all the way through. One of our dining companions also ordered the Kofte kebab served on rice with a creamy thick garlic sauce, I got to try this and it was excellent, wonderful spicing. It's the same beef mince as the meatballs but formed into two long logs on a skewer and grilled. I would say If you are not in the mood for a tagine or if you have a less adventurous diner with you, definitely get a kebab. Additionally by default main dishes come with a commercial pita bread that they warm up, but the restaurant also bakes its own special Moroccan flatbread which is an up-charge. I would elect to order this excellent option instead of the regular pita. For dessert we selected two of the cookies from the pastry case in front of the restaurant which are baked in-house and they were excellent. On the second visit we had some of the chocolate covered coconut ones and the chocolate and white chocolate bars with sesame, really pleasurable end to an excellent meal. The restaurant has its quirks and the female server we had on the first visit we had was not as informative as the owners or the other male server, but the food is excellent, it's a rarity and the place is just getting its feet wet. So I'd give them a chance and also come with a group of folks and have a leisurely meal so you can all order a bunch of dishes and try as many things as possible. read more

They really take the time to explain everything on the menu. I love that they have vegetarian options. I tried the vegetarian Tajine which was tasty. Must get the Moroccan bread it was the best part of the meal I feel. It comes hot and fresh with 2 dipping sauces. One spicy and one garlic buttery, both delicious! The chicken couscous was also ordered. The meat was not as flavorful but still a good meal. Decent portion sizes. I wish we got more bread since they charge extra for it only because the bread was so delicious! Easy to access and plenty of parking as it is located at the end of a Publix plaza.
