Then they print the credit card slip with amount $58 for me to sign. It's very easy for us to just sign it without noticing the change in amount. I caught it and the lady said she typed wrong and sorry. However, this is the 2nd time happen to me within a year. Let me wonder if this individual is trying to make extra to her own pocket. Grabbed dinner with the Hubby at Darda couple of weeks back. It was on a Sunday evening we decided to drop in here all of a sudden. We were quite prepared for the expected wait time as it's known well that the place will be fully packed most times, needless to say during Weekends. The wait time was about 15 mins and our token number was called out in mike by the staff at the front just-in-time. You better watch out for the token number shout or else you've the easy chance of missing it as the ambient noise level is generally high. Darda is located inside Milpitas Square Shopping Center or Dining Destination as you may call it. There is big parking lot with even ample parking spaces, but somehow it's not helpful enough to park quickly. Each time we hit the lot, it's extremely tight and you gotta patiently wait and squeeze in your vehicle. There you see a huge hall with tables chairs arranged in every nook and corner. It fits even larger groups, noticed many families enjoying the taste of their every bite. It's a simple-looking & fast paced restaurant, you'l get your order in less than 2 mins, known for serving Muslim-Chinese specialities. I felt attendants here are very busy and so was ours. She wasn't friendly, but was quick & helpful. We Ordered (Veg), # Pan Cake ($0.50) - This scallion pancake is a real steal and we totally loved it!!! Comes in two pieces per serving, thin sliced, crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, YUM! # Twice Cooked Tofu ($8.95) - Many meat-eaters rave about Twice cooked Pork and guess Tofu is a good replacement for all veg diners. Firm tofu sauteed with spicy chilly bean-based sauce and added vegetables. This was very oily but tasty to satisfaction! # Egg Fried Rice (8.25) - This is our favorite pick whenever we hit a Chinese Halal. Large portion size, flavorful and scrumptious as hoped for!! # Dry Sauteed String Beans ($9.95) - Garlic flavored added with small chunks of onions, was too good!! This was yet another oily pick, but perfect to match for a delish craving!! I have been to Darda so many times and almost every time I ordered the same food: the thick hand cut noodles soup with either seafoods or beef. The portion is huge and the hand cut noodles are freshly made in house and have the desirable "chewy" texture that we Taiwanese folks love. When my mom came to visit from Taiwan I brought her here for the noodles and she loved it too. Their sesame "da bing", or the northern Chinese style "pan cake" is huge; about the size of an 8-inch pizza. Even if we ordered the "thin crust" it's still very huge and can probably serve up to 6 people. It's crispy outside and soft inside and does not really require a lot of seasoning. In fact, as my Yelper friend, Ken K. rightfully reminded me after reading this review, that there are rumors that pizzas were invented in Italy after Marco Polo travelled to China and discovered our "da bing" and brought the idea back to Italy. The difference is they use cheese and we use green onions and sesame on top of it, but the dough is practically the same... The vegetarian steamed dumplings that we tried last time (about 1.5 months ago) were about the only thing that was disappointing. It lacked in flavors and the skin was a tad too thick for dumplings. This is a muslim restaurant so you won't find any pork dishes here but plenty of good beef or lamb dishes. I usually bring my out of town guests here who want something more authentic and traditional. I went here to have dinner on New Years night and the place was packed. There was like at least 20 people outside waiting for a table. We got seated within 5 minutes without a week cause we were only a party of 2 so they just stuck us in the corner with a small table, the size of a small desk in an elementary school. We ordered: Three flavor house noodle: This was actually pretty good. Try to eat it hot right when you get it cause the noodle gets kinda tough and too chewy after awhile since they're fresh noodles. Scallion Duck: This was the worst dish we ordered. All I tasted was tofu mixed with beansprouts. You can barely taste any duck. The flavor was really bland..This plate is definitely one you would want to pass. Lamb with Onion: This was recommended to us by our waitress. She said it was one of their popular dish. It definitely was good and we enjoyed it with our rice. The portions here are huge! You definitely get your money's worth and the food here is also good. Definitely above average..but I guess you just need to know what to order. The menu is large so you really have plenty to choose from. If you were to order a dish with noodle..I would totally recommend paying a dollar extra to get their fresh house noodle. I really wanted to try their sesame bread which everyone was raving about but it was just too much and I wouldn't have been able to finish it. I am not sure if I'll be coming back anytime soon because there's really nothing extraordinary that I love so much here. Islamic Chinese at Darda in Milpitas: Really? These Sesame Pancakes? One of my co-workers asked where I was going for lunch yesterday. "Oh," I said breezily, "I'm just going out for some Islamic Chinese." You know, as though EVERYONE does that. People rave about the sesame pancakes at Darda so I decided it was time I got my mouth around some. The only size order available is $7.25 and IT. IS. HUGE. There are eight slices (more like slabs) that are each about the size of a Chicago deep dish pizza slice. And I ordered it THIN. (There's a choice between thin and thick.) The thin was described in Yelp reviews online as crepe-like, and boy, I beg to differ. Do those posters think a Chicago deep dish pizza slice is crepe-like? And if this is thin, how fricking big is THICK?! The pancakes are studded with sesame seeds and filled with green onions. The inside is moist and kind of layered like a biscuit. It looked great but unfortunately it was very bland. My husband ate a bite of my leftovers and agreed. I actually tossed my leftovers after one slice because I didn't want them. (I recently ate a different sort of green onion sesame pancake in NYC at Dumpling House and that was better.) The woman at the table next to me told me that the advantage of the thin pancake is that you can put stuff inside it. I'm not sure what I'd be putting inside it? My lunch special? Speaking of my lunch special, I got the $5.95 dry sautéed string beans lunch special served with rice and hot and sour soup. I asked for the beans low oil but it was still very oily. The green beans were fine but a little garlic would have gone a long way in improving them. There was another ingredient in this dish that looked like some sort of cabbage/bamboo mutation and had a slightly salty flavor. No clue what this was but it tasted better than it sounds. Since I was dining alone I had to order the lunch special in order to eat a normal meal that wasn't just bread. In a bite: Absolutely delicious, quick + friendly service, makes me hungry again writing this review I came here with a large group celebrating a friend's birthday and we didn't have to wait at all because we'd called ahead a few hours and booked a private room. One of my friends, A, had been here a few times and definitely knew the delicious things to order - house made hand- cut noodles, the large pancake (大饼), Pickled vegetable soup with lamb, pea sprouts, walnut shrimp, and more yummies. I would definitely, definitely recommend these all - the seasoning is just right and it's evident that all the ingredients are good quality. The service here was insanely fast - our first dish arrived at the table just 2 minutes after we placed our order, and the last one came probably 10 minutes after we'd ordered. We even asked the waitress if she could help ladle out our noodle soup for us and she was happy to oblige. I've never had to wait more than 8 minutes for our first dish to arrive and my family has come here a good handful of times now. ~ Food: The best knife-cut noodles I've ever had. In my opinion, knife-cut noodles are one of the most under-appreciated dishes in Chinese cuisine and if you've never tried them, try them for the first time here at Darda. I swear you won't regret it. They offer a selection of different meats you can have with it but I stick with beef. The flavour is delicious and you can taste the freshness of the noodle. I simply cannot underrate how addictive they are! Their other dishes are great too and packed full of flavour. I absolutely love this place. I live very close to where this restaurant is located. Though there are plenty of good places to eat in this plaza, Darda is still one of my favorites! It's always busy every time my friend & I go, but we never have to wait more than five minutes to get seated. The waiters and waitresses are friendly (my cup of water always gets refilled without me asking), and it's relatively clean. My FAVORITE is the thick, chewy and saucy three flavor home-made noodle. It has shrimp, chicken, beef, and lots of vegetables. I love dumping hot sauce over it for some heat because it adds to the delicious-ness. Overall- I love this place. Service was horrendous and sanitation wasn't up to par. I called the health inspectors on them and he gave me feedback on how this place needs improvement. I think this place is actually pretty good for Chinese food and they give you a lot of food while at it. My family is a huge fan of this place every time a relative or someone comes to visit. Generally my favorite dishes there are the ones that aren't "normal Chinese" but authentic Chinese that you won't find anywhere else, like their sauteed lamb dishes. Everything-- from the pillowy rounds of sesame-studded green onion bread, to the huge steaming bowls of chili-fragrant beef noodle soup, to the crowded chatter of a hundred diners-- makes you feel like you're surrounded by this cornucopian abundance of food and warmth, and that you have some pressing obligation to your ancestors to chow down with unreserved gusto. No... ? That's not what it feels like at all? Oh, I guess it's just me & my tummy then. =/ I used to dread Darda because my parents insisted on eating dinner there 1-2x a week for my Entire. Childhood. Now that I've flown the coop and experienced years living on dinners of canned soup, I've come to appreciate and miss this place. ... Especially the noodles. The noodles here are hand-pulled and knife-shaven to the thickness or thinness of your specification. They're chewy, hearty and perfectly toothsome when slopped into a bowl of beef & tendon soup. The knife-shaven curried seafood noodles come tangled with rosy shrimp, mung beans and thick cuts of scallions, and the Cong Bau Yang Rou (Lamb with spring onions) is a certifiable mouthgasm when eaten over rice. The Suan Cai Yang Rou Tang (Lamb soup with pickled cabbage & vermicelli) is an acquired, but wonderful taste- each spoonful yields a mouthful of salty, savory & tangy mellowness. Everything is abundantly flavorful... so much so that many dishes are aggressively overseasoned. Some days, I wonder if the beef noodle soup is really "soup" or just anise-flavored soy sauce. The dry-fried string beans leave a thick film of grease on your mouth, and the fried noodle dishes could use an oil blotter. Tell your waiter beforehand "less salt & less oil" so that the chefs can prepare your food accordingly. The English name says it's a seafood restaurant, but the Chinese name doesn't really provide any indication--清真一条龙 just means "A Muslim Dragon". The food served here is from the northwestern part of China (which happens to be primarily Muslim), and I'm guessing most people don't associate delicious seafood with that geography. Anyway, we ordered the following: - 三鲜刀削面 ("Three Fresh" Hand-cut Noodles) - 鱼香茄子 (Eggplant with the essence of Fish [sautéed in spicy garlic sauce]) - 葱爆羊肉(Sautéed Lamb Slices with Scallion) My take on the Noodles: The "Three Fresh" are traditionally pork, shrimp, & egg, which flavor the dish, but I'm guessing they used chicken here. Quite hearty and savory, with big thick chunks of hand-cut noodles--the flavor reminded me a lot of the noodles I used to eat as a kid in Taiwan. Soy-saucy, chunks of green onion, cabbage, egg, & a little meat. Nothing real high end--more like street food that hits the spot. My take on the Eggplant: Pretty standard. Sweet bean-paste sauce, ground pork, chunks of garlic. Not amazing, not bad, no surprises. My take on the Lamb dish: Thinly cut slices of lamb stir-fried for a short period of time at a high temperature. The scallions provided a nice fresh veggie balance to the rich seasoned lamb. Probably the best dish. All in all: It was quite good--maybe one of the better Chinese restaurants we've eaten at in the Bay Area, but there wasn't any one dish in particular that I'd come back for. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. I'm forced to come to the Milpitas location since the Fremont location closed down. My review for the Fremont location applies to this one. Favorite dish here is #18 in the Seafood section of the menu. In English, they call it something like "Black cod with Beans." The dish is actually 3 fillets of cod, with this crusty breading stuff on top, not really "beans." For $27, this is cheapest, more affordable, and tastiest cod you can find. It certainly beats the one you can get at Le Colonel for $32 for a single-person serving. I also really like their knife-cut noodles. It's under the "Homemade Noodles" section of the menu. Their noodles are very "QQ" and flavorful. They're famous for their sesame + green onion pancakes. Very flavorful, but a lot of carbs, if you don't mind. I ordered a beef dish, and to my disappointment, the beef dish came with a lot of fillers, i.e., celery pieces. Pretty friendly and attentive service for a Chinese restaurant. Entered the restaurant because I saw their famous sesame pancake advertised on their window. Food was pretty good, especially when enjoying with loved ones. This restaurant is very popular, and the big hall was packed by the time we were halfway through our meal. The waitress who took our order was really impatient though, we were pretty shocked by her attitude. Another waitress brought us our bill in the middle of our meal, another service related put off. We had the beef claypot, which was around $26, huge, and delicious. The beef was very tender, but napa cabbage not cooked through (the beef stew was probably cooked ahead of time, and veggies thrown in when dish reheated). My husband was really curious about the spicy tripe and enjoyed it very much. The sesame pancake (we got the thick option), was more bland than I expected, but a perfect complement to the beef stew (I dipped it in my soup for flavor). The moo shu is alright, but the lamb dishes is just way to oily and gamey tasting. Could have been a donkey for all I know. The hand made noodles are nowhere near consistent in thickness. If you're looking for American fake-Chinese food (think orange chicken), or regular/standard traditional Chinese food (think xiao long bao/dumplings), then skip over Darda in favor of the other restaurants in Milpitas Square. Darda's uniqueness lays in the specific type of Chinese food it serves - primarily catering to a northwestern Chinese taste that is somewhat similar to Middle Eastern and Mongolian food. Specialties: lamb, and flour-based meals (as opposed to rice-based). Of course, the seafood there is pretty spot on too, which makes sense seeing as how it's in the restaurant name. I usually dislike lamb cooked non-Chinese style (European, Mediterranean, Indian, etc.), since it's way too gamy for my tastes, but I absolutely LOVE lamb cooked northwestern Chinese style. We ordered the lamb with preserved vegetable soup, lamb with hand/knife-cut noodles, a special fish of the day, and a sesame green onion thick pancake that turned out to be the best part of the meal for me - about 1.5 inch thick, crispy and sesame-covered on the outside, chewy, yeasty, and green-onion-flavored on the inside. Also a huge plus - service was SO QUICK! The line was out the door most of the time we were there (7pm on labor day evening), but we luckily snagged a spot during a short lull. We ate the food, but it lacked flavor and was not very memorable. The reason that this place isn't getting 2 stars is because there was one time when I' went with friends that ordered Chinese dishes that I'd never tried before. That food was pretty good. 3.5 stars This is one of those go-to restaurants for my family when we have guests. It's very popular (with the Chinese and Indian crowd) and there always seems to be a line. Too bad I've never been a huge fan of the restaurant, always being slightly disappointed when my family chooses to go there. Their signature dishes are their sesame breads which comes in 2 versions, thick and thin. They're both quite good, and everyone has their own preference. The other signature dish is their home made noodles, which are made super savory from the seafood/meat they're cooked in. Too bad I've never really liked this dish, finding it far too oily and not liking the chewiness of the homemade noodles. It's personal preference since my mom and (French) uncle love this dish. Other dishes: Lamb with Chinese pickled cabbage soup - Definitely an acquired taste. It was good but nothing particularly special. Fish head soup (using the head of the fish we ordered) - I enjoyed it except for the liberal use of black pepper in the soup. Also, I've had better versions before so this isn't a must have for me. Beef steak stir fry - Thoroughly meh, drenched in sauce. Fried scallops stir fry dish - Quite good, but unfortunately spicy and too oily (so I couldn't eat much) Bok Choy - We got it just to have some vegetables and it was very standard and very much skippable. Oxtail - A surprise winner, coming at my aunts recommendation (which is usually unreliable). The meat fell off the bone and was infused with the delicious flavor of the sauce. Pretty much my favorite dish. Steamed rockfish - It was super expensive ($50) and a bit of a disappointment since they apparently only give you half a fish (they make it seem like you're ordering an entire fish but when asked for clarification, they tell you it's half a fish). Plus I'm not a huge fan of rockfish and didn't really like it that much. Green Onion lamb - This is another staple when my family goes to this restaurant. I'm not a huge fan, but my dad is. Given how average most of the dishes are (in my opinion), my family definitely goes here way too much. But if we do have to go, then we'll definitely get the sesame bread, homemade noodles, and oxtail! read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid. My grandma is Muslim so the food here is perfect for her. The shanghainese steamed dumpling- XLB is pretty good, made out of beef, so it isn't as juicy as pork- AND No that's why its not served there because its not Halal. The wait can be long if you have a party of 4 or more. I came here with my bf and was seated down within 2 minutes. The tea is a bit bland- I drink a lot of green tea at Japanese restaurants so I think that it was bad. We ordered the knife cut noodles with 3 things inside, I believe its chicken, shrimp, and beef. We also got cold beef- which was horrid. My bf ate 2 pieces and didn't like it. He's used to more of a szechuan style instead of Halal I guess. Kungpao chicken - I was dissapointed by this - it didn't taste too good. The sauce was not on point, and there wasn't much meat either. If you come here - make sure to get the thick sesame bread with green onion. That is AMAZING. It's too big for two people so we didn't order it. Also the lamb pot soup is huge but very good. Just had dinner there. We are satisfied with the food. But I am unhappy about their dishonest on the tips charge. In the itemized bill, they included 15% tips already. When they came back with the credit card bill, it showed the total as "PRE-TIP AMT" and had an entry for TIP below. And they did not bring back the itemized bill. I ate here with my family for the first time in early April 2007. The place serves halal Chinese food. We got there around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. I heard if you get there any later, you'll have to wait awhile to get a table. We got a seat quickly and the servers came within 5minutes after we sat down. They were eager for us to order. We weren't ready. They were hovering over us to order. I felt rushed, but this is not your enjoy the atmosphere kind of the place. We ordered I think 7 dishes for the 4 of us. We went crazy. We saw the seasame bread with green onion on almost every table, so we decided to order it. I wasn't too impressed with it. The seasame bread part was very fresh, but it didn't too have much flavor. The seafood hotpot was really good, but the temperatue of the soup was not hot enough. The stir fry pea sprout was amazing. It was the huge leaf version and had a lot of flavor. The lamb with green onion was really good. I'm not a big fan of stirfry lamb, but it didn't taste too gamy. I was amazed at how fast they brought out the food. I think most of our dishes came out in less than 5 minutes. They are fast. I noticed while we were eating there were 2 waves of lines. Even though there is a line, there is quick turn around on table seating. When we left around 7:30pm, there was a third wave of line. Parking in that shopping plaza was kind of crazy. We got lucky. There is a Ranch 99 and bunch of other business, so pretty packed lot. I would come back here again and try different dishes. read more
