New brunch menu does not disappoint. I've only been to Darling Aviary in the past as a late night bar, but I would definitely consider this as a brunch option going forward. Roof top ambiance was lively, there was a live DJ, the outdoor heaters made it very comfortable despite the 50 degree weather. It surprised me there wasn't a wait for 11:20am on a Sunday! I ordered the karaage & pandan pancakes. The chicken was perfectly fried and flavorful. The pancakes were a little bland and gooey, but the bright green color and flavor of the citrus coconut cream was worth the order. We also ordered the red plate which was fried rice with a soft boiled egg. It was delicious as well. Morning masubi was delicious - a perfect ratio of rice, spam, and egg. Gravy dip added even more flavor. I wouldn't do anything differently. Service was very attentive and friendly. Only downside was the porcelain cat drink is no longer available. The tables have a little wear and tear, the water cups were plastic, but otherwise you can barely tell it's a night club! read more

Omg no kidding at all one of the best meatball burgers I have ever had. The cheese was crispy and the garlic aïoli was just enough. Absolutely will make my way back there this week. Walking into the place it was dark and comfy the person at the door instructed me to take the lift to the second floor. The ambiance and decorations are really awesome including the cage which I've seen something like that at club in providence Rhode Island in my young days. I love that this rooftop patio has heaters, besides the wind, I was actually able to withstand the cold. I liked the decor, the bar inside is swanky, the rooftop was my favorite place to be because it makes you feel like you're in a different city for a moment. I came here for happy hour with a few others, and was so excited to finally visit this place! The reason for 3 stars isn't due to the food or drinks, but upon closing out 3 different tabs, I realized 2 of us were overcharged. We were charged full price instead of happy hour pricing. I had already left by this time. My 2 friends who stayed back, had gotten the printed receipt for their bill and saw it was regular priced. They had it fixed by the waitress. When I was trying to pay my bill, I couldn't figure out a way to see the itemized version, so I just paid it knowing it seemed higher than it should have been. Regardless, I will return, but I will make sure to get a printed receipt next time. Food: burger was delicious and cooked perfectly, seasoned curly fries were so crispy and not greasy. I was not a fan of the garlic aioli that came with almost everything, it looked more like Mayo. The calamari was good, not chewy. Let's get to my favorite thing on their menu... the adobo wings. MY GOODNESS!!! I was in heaven. Ambiance: there was a great mix in the crowd from 21 and up. Ages all over the place and it's diverse. I was excited when I first saw Darling Aviary on social media, but they were initially charging $10 per person for a cover charge with reservations, so I held off. I finally went this past Friday with two friends since reservations are not needed. There was a short line but we ended up waiting about 30 minutes. The guy at the door asked us how many in our group and then moved us to the side. Later another guy came up and said we could go in just for drinks while waiting. What?? We were just there FOR drinks - we didn't want to eat. We could've been inside already! Smh. They need better communication. We were told in order to go upstairs we'd need a table though, so we put our name on "the list." Seems like they were having issues with the list as people kept going up to him to check and the workers were scrambling around and talking to each other. We had shots and palomas downstairs then went up with our drinks and had another round of shots. You take the elevator upstairs where there is another bar and tables with people dining. Overall, the decor, drinks, and music were good, but the vibe is kinda weird. I feel like downstairs and upstairs should both just be a bar. The rooftop could be a cool dance floor, but instead there are tables. And high top tables at that! If they were lower chairs or couches I feel like it'd be easier to mingle. This is such a dope place. I've lived in sacramento midtown since I've moved here but I have never been to this spot. My friend Anthony visited from mount view for a health conference and he wanted to go here for drinks. We stopped by and ran into one of the owners who was an ucd alumni. He was so nice and we chatted about film bc he does film on the side. What I like most about darling aviary is the view and the tasty drinks. Oh man they were good. All together Anthony and I tried at least 6 drinks. I should have capped myself at 1-2 drinks because they were strong. Luckily I live a mile away and we ended up walking back home instead of driving. #responsible right??? . I told my husband afterwards that I'd love to go here again for date night. read more

I must say, ever since "Darling Aviary" opened its doors back in October 2020, I've been waiting for the perfect time to visit. That time finally came true when I ventured here on the afternoon of Sunday 5/16/2021 at around 1:00pm. Located directly on 7th & K St. in the heart of Downtown Sacramento, this is one of the most talked about and highly anticipated newcomers to the city. Owned and operated by the same people that brought you the highly popular "Flamingo House", this place brings a truly unique experience all to itself. The aesthetic layout of this place is extremely radical and innovative with extreme Avant-garde styling. From an artistic standpoint, it pushes the norm from one extreme to the other with its elaborate inside bar/lounge area as well as its beautiful rooftop patio. Some may think the name is unique considering "aviary" is another word for a bird cage. However, this place has a dazzling array of colors that accentuates from front to back. Everything from the purple-colored bar area to the hand-carved wooden tables, this place does it right. When you take the elevator up to their rooftop patio, you will see several tables with a very large colored overhang that shields you from that hot Sacramento sun. Additionally, there are plants throughout with white swan porcelain displays, small birdcages with one large birdcage, lamps with pink colored lampshades, and a full bar serving beer, wine, and well drinks. And of course, the VIEW! Here you can see Golden 1 Center, DOCO, the Renaissance Tower, and many more popular Sacramento landmarks. Location wise, this place is amazing and would impress anyone living in Sacramento or not. Considering this place opened their doors during the COVID-19 pandemic, this became a challenge all in itself. Especially finding enough staff, bartenders, waiters, and chefs to operate the business. Which is why they still have very limited hours. As of May 2021, they are closed Mon, Tue, Wed, opened 4pm-12am Thu/Fri, and 1pm-12am Sat/Sun. This also brings me to their super limited menu. Since they are not opened during the morning hours, they currently do not have a brunch menu or mimosas. As for their burger selection (which are all named after a bird), they offer half a dozen to choose from as well a chicken sandwich. They do offer a few different sides of fries but that's really about it. Which is why I wouldn't recommend eating here unless you're craving a burger as this is way more of a place to enjoy drinks and of course to come here for the view. I, however was hungry so I ended up trying their "Pecker" burger (for $9.00). This included 1/4 lb all beef patty, arugula, house pickles, white cheddar cheese, & Calabrian pepper aioli, on a Brioche bun. Their fries are sold separately (which I did not order). I completed my order with a creamy "Bike Dog Milk Stout" (for $7.00). During my visit, our waitress was friendly, attentive, and took care of us from start to finish. Best of all, my beer arrived in just a couple of minutes while my burger was brought out to me in less than 10 minutes after I placed my order. It was definitely very tasty and delicious but a bit on the smaller side for the price I paid. I just hope they expand their menu because with this location, I can see myself coming here frequently! Overall, "Darling Aviary" is a place I highly recommend coming to. It has everything going for it and I give the owners mad props for opening during challenging times. Pandan pancakes - I think there was 3 pieces of pancake. I just feel like the thin layers of pancake doesn't make the dish look like grand and fabulous look. In my mind I keep on thinking a higher stack to make it more presentable. The flavor and fluffyness was delicious tho. Also it came topped with some mixed berries compote. . Fried chicken and pandan pancakes - my dish was fine with the chicken. My friends piece of chicken was spoiled, the second time it was a little undercooked. We both like the flavors of the chicken. I thought 2 slices of pancake was not enough. It was a small portion for the hefty price tag. The pancakes were thin also. So I think there should be at least 4 pieces of pandan pancakes to match the price tag and ensure peeps are not left hungry. The quality of the dish was good and tasty, I would order again. . Pineapple soba noodles - reminds me of garlic noodles. It was tasty. It had some pineapple taste to it. It was fun, savory, and refreshing dish. . Hawaiian bread avocado toast, the bday boy liked it. The bread was toasted the right amount like it was char which is good. This dish looked light and fluffy with savory taste. Also spam was ordered on the side to pair it with. . It was a cute place to come enjoy brunch. We ordered a bottle of champagne with 2 choices of fruit juice. We chose pineapple and oj. They use good champagne which is chandon sparkling wine. Incredible experience this last weekend where Darling Aviary was able to host us for a private rooftop birthday party. We got to select our own DJ, I got to choose from an amazing food menu, and their bartenders set us up with an open-bar format that our guests could enjoy. They took care of security, our DJ's equipment plugged directly into their sound system, umbrellas were up for shade, tables and chairs were arranged to allow our friends and family plenty of room - NO detail was left out. There's something else I wanna add here, because one of our guests told me about it separately and I appreciate this more than anything else. YES we offered our friends and family a fully open bar, and while we let them know it was open, I didn't quite say "NO you can't order the $500 bottle from the top shelf", but here's where the little details made this pretty epic. One of the bartenders was cool enough to relay the message in the same way that I would, and when one of the guests excitedly asked to confirm if they could order whatever they want, the bar staff said yes they could..."but to be respectful to your hosts about it." I appreciate that small detail so much, because it allowed us to take that burden off of everyone at the party, and EVERYONE got to order as they please all afternoon. Thank you to the entire crew, the management, the staff that afternoon, and to whoever is responsible for that sound system! They have music playing, personally I would prefer a different genre than what they play. They should have a classic rock music evening!! I came twice in one week 11/17 had a sangria I'll give it a 1/5 starts and tequila sunrise 5/5 The sangria was just too sweet mind you I lived in Spain so I'll me extremely critical of sangria. It tasted a lot like orange juice on it I would do maybe a splash OJ or oh soda if available and some bourbon. 11/19 evening the bartender Marcos made some amazing drinks that night no complaints.
