Had drinks with a few friends who all had separate tabs. After closing out we noticed there was a 20% open gratuity that was included which brought the bill up higher and since we were given a hand held with no itemizations made us unaware so we tipped additionally. There was a sign mentioning the added gratuity would be on bills over $100 which none of us exceeded. That fee plus what we tipped additional unknowingly had brought the price up significantly. So I booked my reservation on open table and I love that app. Iv been here several times before for a bar but they just started serving breakfast and so I came with my friends we were all running late and I tried to call but there's no answer which they should change that since they are now open for food. They were still able to seat me which was nice but when I ordered my pancakes they were so raw like mash potatoes and it was unexpected because they looked so pretty. I tasted no coconut as well when I mentioned to the waiter that it was undercooked she said it's normal and offered for me to order something else which is weird like maybe should should tell the chef to change the recipe so people don't get raw pancakes. Then my friend next got loco moco and her ground beef was under cooked on outside and inside. And before she told waiter the table next to us was already complaining about same thing. Visited for the first time on a chilly winter evening, we went to the rooftop bar which had incredible views. I want to come back in spring/summer when the weather is nicer. Service was quick, but it wasn't very busy yet. Drink wasn't my favorite but that was on me, we didn't order any food but it's nice to know you can come for food and drinks to enjoy the view. First time here and it was awesome. We were just passing by on our scooters heading to our car and saw this place lit up. It was a nice bar with a great chill ambiance. We loved how it was rooftop bar and seating as well for food. We stayed just for a few drinks and had to leave however service was great. The only reason for 4 stars was the rooftop did not have much views because the trees were blocking everything (if you were sitting facing the streets) or you were facing the top of a building. Sort of defeats the purpose of rooftop bar view but other than that it was awesome. read more

It's the discriminate type of place. I went to have drinks with a friend after work and if you want to catch up, enjoy a drink and a bite to eat--- that seemed like a simple thing to do but nah.. this place fucked that up. It seems pretty simple. You get carded, face scanned (or whatever-- I wasn't informed when it happened).. there's a bar on the first floor, you wait on the first floor to be allowed to go up the elevator to the rooftop bar. The door guy said it's always busy. They're open Thursday-Sunday and it's first come, first serve. After going inside, I asked the bartender how the waitlist worked to go up, how do they know the order in which you go upstairs? He said they scan you when you come in and will come get you when it's your turn. Menus were available via QR code.. It didn't load properly on my phone and I only saw the food portion but we were told food isn't served on the first floor.. I didn't want to get wasted so we stretched out the drinks we ordered while we waited. We'll just drink more when we can have food as well. Well, it's not a first come, first serve basis like the door guy said when we were waiting to go in.. it's who is friends with the owner, who do I want to fuck, who has their ass and tits out -- first serve basis. We sat with our drinks downstairs watching numerous people that came in after us go up and it's like, is this really happening? What was supposed to be an easy outting turned into a big shit on your face ordeal to bypass people that have been waiting and then lied to about it. It reminded me of a gaslighting ex-boyfriend. There were two girls at the table next to ours that sat and we've been sitting at our table for more than an hour.. Not even a complete party, they were still waiting for another person. A staff member walked up to their table and started schmoozing and my friend asked if they were going up next to which the staff member said yes. My friend says that we've been there longer and we've watched numerous people that arrived after us that were allowed to go to the rooftop. One of the girls at the table next to us laughed and when asked why she was laughing, the other girl said, I'm not laughing. (What the dumb?) They could not furnish a list to show how they decide or know who's waiting to go up. Three staff members each had different stories as to the way things work. We only had a drink (I didn't finish mine) to pass the time until we went up to have food and drinks upstairs. So being that we waited and confirmed that people were going before us for miscellaneous reasons, at least refund our drinks since we can't get the time we wasted there back.. the first guy said no. Third person said yes, gave me his name and number and let me know it would take a couple days for the transaction to reverse. OK. If you've also had an issue like ours, I also uploaded the name and number to call. (I have not been refunded). In the capitol city of California where legislation happens, in June when Love is Love is plastered everywhere, people tout equality and justice, promote mental health-- it's astonishing to be treated so badly. We were having a drink and waiting. It should have been so simple and I assume their other business, the Flamingo House, is just the same.. Run your business how you like but tell it like it is and be honest at the least. read more

Tbh the wait is not worth it. We arrived at 10:40pm and didn't make it to the top floor until 12:25pm. They did tell us we would wait for 90 minutes but we waited longer.. The host didn't tell us the kitchen closed at 11:45pm though and we just wanted to go upstairs to get a drink and have a burger. Karina saved the night for us because she went out of her way to ask if they could at least make some fries for us. the food & drinks were delicious!! a bit pricey, but for a rooftop bar in sacramento, it's not too bad. my friend and i shared the special fries (which were THE BEST) and two burgers that our server recommended. for drinks, we ordered a cocktail and an IPA - both of which were ok. while the food was good, the service was not. we beat the lunch rush, but even so, when we got to the top, service was really slow. we were waiting around for 15-20 mins before having to flag down a server to help us out. afterwards, food took about 20-30 minutes to come out and when we wanted to grab the bill to pay, that took another 15-20 mins to find someone to attend to us. for it not being busy at all, the servers were not very attentive to guests. read more

Great ambiance for a nice rooftop outing. Especially during the summer! There are mist machines when it gets hot, so be mindful of the hairstyle you choose when coming to this rooftop. I believe they also have happy hour! Haven't tried the food but looked & smelled really good. Downside is their drinks are pretty small for the price and sometimes the music isn't the best. It's a trendy bar/rooftop restaurant with a friendly vibe. Do not come if you're hungry, in search of a diverse menu (basically burgers and fries), impatient, cranky old, or broke because you will not be happy with your experience. Otherwise, come, Instagram it, and have a great time! My friend who loves to check out trending spots in town, has wanted to come here for a while, but I have resisted because of concerns that the place may be too crowded to safely maintain social distancing. They were also not taking reservations and had a vague seating process, which I learned when I called. I didn't want to take a chance and get annoyed, so I waited to come until I was fully vaccinated. Additionally, phone customer service wasn't the friendliest; and that, too, deterred me from rushing to check this place out. So, this is the drill, which we discovered during our visit: :: Get in line to get in and to reserve a rooftop table. :: Once you're in, you get in line at the bar to get drinks. :: Sit on one of the downstairs bar tables until the bouncer tells you that your rooftop table is ready. :: Take the elevator up. :: You are escorted to your high table. :: You order and wait again for your drinks and food. The menu is basically burgers and fries but they still take a while. The food was tasty, so that was good. :: Enjoy the views and the vibe. We came after work at around 6:30 pm on a Friday night, and were surprised that there wasn't a long line. We came right up to the bouncer (Jake, I think - who was actually friendly) and there were only two parties ahead of us waiting to order their drinks. There were already other parties seated in the downstairs bar area and all rooftop tables were occupied. There was just one bartender and getting a drink took a while. It's good that the female bartender was also friendly otherwise the wait would have been intolerable. When we sat down, there was a long line that stretched to the street and we were happy to have arrived when we did. The dimly lit downstairs bar gives you a club feel along with the loud music and the same is true upstairs. Just like a bar, you will see parties who know someone from the establishment and will bypass the queue, so be ready for this. Just like in bird watching, you patiently wait, and that can't be more true at The Aviary. Prepare to be patient. People who love trendy places would probably love this place because they wouldn't mind the wait. Those, however, who are impatient, picky about quality, and mindful of the dollar's value, will not be pleased with their visit here. I didn't mind the non-stellar aspects of this place too much. I think I was so grateful to be fully vaccinated, out again in close proximity to others, and in the midst of a joyful vibe that I didn't mind. The staff that helped us too, were all friendly and polite, and that significantly made a difference. read more

We got there a little before 7 pm on a Saturday night & we knew it would take a while to get a table but we went ahead & signed up for a rooftop table anyways. The host told us it would be about 2 hours wait time so we grabbed a table & order drinks while we waited. There was a QR code for the menu but no waitress. So we only ordered drinks. We sat right by the entrance. We saw a few people (in groups) coming out from the elevator & anticipated that our turn was getting closer. After 2 hours we watched 6-7 groups of people coming out but still we didn't get any notification. We also saw a bunch of people who came way after us getting onto the elevator. So after another 30 mins wait we decided to go ask where we were on the list & the host couldn't tell us. He didn't even bother to look at the tablet he was holding to see how many people were ahead of us. He dodged the question & just said it's really full up there right now & might be another hour wait. WHAT??!! We been here for 2.5 hours & we just saw a bunch of groups who were clearly after us going up. It definitely seem like if you had some kind of connection with the people working there then you were put in front of people who were just random guests. Came to Darling Aviary on September 1st with my wife and family. Ambience of the place is great with the roof top view. This would have been a better experience if not for: 1.) Bringing out the wrong order of fries. No big deal most of the time, but coupled with number two below, it left a bad taste in our mouths....and it wasn't the wrong fries. 2.) When the check came out, a 20% tip is automatically included. No where in the pay system is that obviously pointed out. Moreover, the server then presented the pay system where it asks for an additional tip. Not knowing that the initial tip was already included, we selected the additional tip. The whole experience at the end of the time just felt dishonest and a little slimy. No need to do that. The server at the very least should have made it known that tip was included. Cool little spot located next to the Arena. It's got an eclectic vibe. The spot everyone wants to goto is the rooftop bar. The downside is that the rooftop bar is on the smaller side, meaning it gets crowded. The bar service was really slow upstairs at the time I went, almost like the bartender didn't care. That's was a bit disappointing. There is also a single elevator to bring people up and down. It's the only elevator so expect a wait depending on how crowded it is. Hack: order a drink at the main bar first, and enjoy it while waiting for the elevator. Crowd is a bit young for me, but if I was 10 years younger, would have been a good vibe. read more

Updated review- I was able to get reservations for the upstairs restaurant. The food they offer is mostly burgers and sandwiches. Food was good. The view was beautiful. Only issue is that there's not enough shade so I was stuck sitting in plain sunlight for the duration of my meal. It was definitely uncomfortable towards the end. But they also have misters which helps cool a little of they can reach you! I think it will be better to visit during the fall or when the weather is a bit cooler. read more
