We got our order taken for drinks and our two main entree but then the waitress rushed off before we had the chance to order more or even any sides. Had to call them back and they were confused at first so we had to explain we still had more we wanted to order. They're doing their best so I'm not clocking them because at least they're nice. Food: Inari Tamago - The eggs were tossed in a sweet eel sauce! Warm and sweet and savory. Tasted pretty good! Vegan Slush Noodles - Super refreshing and light. Wish I knew of this when it was still 100+ degree weather!! I don't like cucumber but that's a me thing. It's technically a perfect topping for a cooling and light dish. I think this would've also been great with strips of nori!! Ajitsuke Tamago - Perfectly jammy and lightly soy-sauce savory forward. I can't say much on the original slush or the Takoyaki and Chashu side but my mom liked them. She said the Takoyaki had a great crisp on the outside and a fluffy interior. Was craving Japanese curry and saw this was a highly raved spot so decided to give it a try. I ordered the chicken cutlet curry and mi-so-hot ramen with level 3 spice. I wasn't able to customize the curry's spice though. The chicken cutlet was nice and crispy, and the curry came with vegetables and a cutlet sauce on the side. I have been wanting to try this place for sometime but was never in the area and when I finally had the chance to go here I was happy! Dashiwa Ramen is located and nestled in a quaint strip mall next to other stores. Inside was nice and refreshing to the eyes meaning it had a welcoming ambiance. It was well lit and neatly decorated with Japanese regalia and their names of meals draped across on one side of the wall with a few tvs inside for you to enjoy watching something while you partake in ramen. The waitresses were kind and welcoming although I think they should be trained a bit more in not just hospitality but in speaking, they were very quiet and reserved especially the lady who was servicing us. I understand we were the first customers and we just arrived as they opened and they're working on a Saturday and let's face it nobody wants to work in a Saturday let alone in food which I understand completely I've been there however that does not excuse the people who work their to have a lack of smile and genuine welcoming to patrons and this goes for any establishment. For example I simply asked how spicy the Tonkotsu red was if it extra spicy was truly spicy and such and our waitress barely mumbled a word out and said something to the likes of "mmm yes spicy". It could be a language barrier or just ill training on basic conversation but that needs to be worked on in my opinion. But in any case I did enjoy the food! I got the Tonkotsu red with an extra egg and edamame on the side and my friend ordered the black garlic with a side of spicy powder and an extra egg. So first off the edamame was good it's just how it should be and cooked well. The ramen however I will say this; 1. The broth was surprisingly good! I enjoyed the flavor and aroma it gave and all the tare that was in it and it gave off a rich but at the same time not overtly powering flavor. It was just right! 2. It was not spicy at all haha. Granted I was sweating because like I think there's no AC inside and of course broth being hot can raise your temperature but other than that the extra spicy I got wasn't extra spicy at all like it was as if I was eating sriracha which is not very spicy. It was the same thing for my friends spicy powder that was on the side. Maybe our spice tolerance is higher than normal but either way it was just not living up to its spice level. I enjoyed the Chashu it was just right three slices but it was very small and to ask for more which was about 2-3 slices at the same size for $4 dollars was a bit much for what it's worth. The noodles were great and cooked Al dente which I enjoyed especially for the kind of noodles that were used for this dish. I think overall I enjoyed my meal just except for those few things. We actually came for ramen but changed our food selection when we got here! Menu is via QR on table. We ordered the makesoba with chasu and chicken cutlet curry with a spam and egg musubi appetizer. Food came pretty quick! The musubi was tasty though it had a little too much rice that was not packed tightly so both halves fell apart after the bite. The spam was juicy and the egg was a nice sweet complement. The makesoba was great. A little noodle heavy it could have a bit more veggies. It came with vinegar, chili oil, and pickles on the side. I think it tasted great as is but the acidity and heat was a nice add. The egg added a nice creaminess to the egg and the pork was tender and moist. The corn still had a good sweet crunch! Be warned- we got really thirsty later! The curry was as expected; crunchy chicken cutlets with just the right amount of rice for the curry. There was also katsu sauce on the side. The curry had a half salted egg, but could have more carrots and potatoes for texture. We overheard conversation that maybe management will be changing in June 2024 and they may overhaul the ramen menu. At the end the host asked if we enjoyed our meal and gave us complimentary Thai ice tea to try. This was a Sunday afternoon so not too busy and we heard a few other guests also got free ice tea at the end of their meal so we don't expect this to be every day! Wanted to try a new ramen spot for dinner tonight and found this restaurant close to home. It's an unsuspecting location from the outside but the inside is beautiful and very clean. Service was quick and attentive. We ordered the chicken kaarage to start and it was perfect. Came with a side of mayo but we requested spicy mayo and they gladly obliged. I had the tonkotsu red because I was wanting something spicy. They asked how spicy I wanted it from a 1 to 3 and I chose a 2. It had some spicy but not too spicy. The rice was nice and fluffy, beef was not overcooked, and it came with a little container of pickled veggies. I got there around 1:15pm on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't packed. Tonkatsu ramen: The soup base was very tasty. It wasn't salty. I normally order my ramen soup light because I think that most ramen soup bases are too salty, so I'm really picky with the ramen restaurants that I go to. The tonkatsu was slightly seared giving it a slight smoked flavor and was very tender. Side note... The ramen does come with green onions, but I'm just not a fan, so my bowl of ramen lacks color. This review is solely based on the service. Came in as a party of two on a Thursday night at 7:15PM and placed our order for two bowls of ramen and a chicken karaage in by 7:20PM.
