Well I'm giving a low score for the mistake they made. I ordered a club sandwich, got my order and went back to our campsite. I discovered I got the wrong sandwich, a tuna salad sandwich. We were from out of town, and staying too far to go back, so I called and called and called and never got an answer or even a voice mail, just a ring, ring, ring. So $15.00 for the wrong sandwich, and not even a good sandwich. I did finally get someone to answer when I tried calling again. The person who answered picked up the phone and simply said "Hello" like he was wondering why the phone was ringing. Didn't even say the name of the place, so I wasn't sure if I was talking to someone at the sandwich shop. Told him what happened, he said he was sorry, and I had to ask about getting this corrected. He said they can replace the sandwich, I said that was great, and asked him if he wanted my name, "oh yea what's your name?" To end the story, I never made it in to get the replacement, so to their credit, they did offer to correct their mistake, I just never had the time before we left town. read more

Got the Crazy Dave sub and it lived up to expectations. The bread was soft and tasted fresh; the meats were piled on high; the various toppings and cheese added that extra oomph. Stopped in here the other day and had quite a good Sando. I got the #13 (The Turkey Dave), which was piled high with cheese, fresh pepperoncinis, Dave's Cosmic Sauce (which I think is just a red wine vinaigrette or Italian dressing) and added bacon for a little extra flavor. Good proportions of ingredients and rich in flavor. (I personally didn't love the cheese choice, would try a Swiss or provolone next time) Service was nice and friendly, the space tidy and clean with bar stools and counter for dining in. I'm originally from the Cleveland area and have personally seen the Dave's Cosmic Subs franchise grow over the years. The original, Original Dave's is located in Chagrin Falls, OH (if you ever get the chance to go I highly recommend it). As the brand franchised the experience hasn't always been consistent BUT I can say this location is doing it right. This Dave's is located in the middle of a little shopping plaza, so there is plenty of parking. The inside is super tiny, but they do have outdoor seating and a bathroom available. We stopped by right as they opened, before exploring the beach and the staff members were friendly and one was even from the Cleveland area as well. We ordered the Grateful Dave, The Crazy Dave, the Original and the Garden Burger. All of the sandwiches came out quickly, even though they warned us they had a huge order come in first thing that morning. We did see a sign that said the pickle spears are only available on request- they are a must for the full experience. The bread was toasty and crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The toppings were fresh and exactly what I expected and they were generous with the Dave's Sauce that truly sets these sandwiches apart. They do have a window outside that you can order from and they serve beer here. One thing I noticed about this location is they don't have the cold case with glass bottles of soda and their Dave's sauce to take home, but that could be due to not wanting glass on the beach and just how tiny the location is. The vibe is right on what you'd expect though and the sandwiches were great. I live in Sacramento now and bought an extra sandwich to take all the way home... If anyone wants to start a franchise closer to me I'd spend all my money there- these sandwiches are my favorite. Just another reason to plan more trips to the Long Beach area. read more

I've been wanting to go to this place for a long time. Finally went last weekend on the 4th of July (2023). I ordered Dave's Turkey sandwich on wheat with avocado. I really like this sandwich ! The turkey was fresh it came with cheese and Dave's cosmic sauce which I loved. The bread was perfect. Service - The young lady taking orders was very nice. Ambiance - was ok, small shop. This place is always a solid choice! The vibe is super chill with cool rock 'n' roll decor, and the subs are seriously next level. I've been coming back and this time I tried the Tuna Dave. It was AMAZING I did the wrap hack again and asked them to add sprouts and bacon. Thank you to the patient staff for going along with my request bc wow that wrap was delicious!!!! Dave's is a cute little sandwich shop with lots of great options. Staff was friendly and patiently waited for me to make my decision. I got the meatball sub and I feel like I'm a bit of a meatball snob, but these had great flavor and were nice and *moist*, bread was nice and crispy. I just wish the sandwich was a bit hotter. The sauce was lukewarm, but the cheese was melted perfectly. Hubby got the #23 and agreed while good, it was just lukewarm. I took a bite and it was ham heavy, couldn't really taste the Turkey, but the banana peppers really helped with the acidity. This might be the best use of parking space I've seen in a while! In the middle of a parking lot is a full stand alone hot sub sandwich spot. They have successfully completed the mission of hippie vibes with the decor, music, and color patterns. I love how friendly the guys were in walking me through what they offer and s/o to the dancing bears that highlight their most popular menu items. I ate the #1, essentially an Italian sub and it packs a lot of flavor in 8 inches. The bread has a crunch similar to our childhood days when you ate sandwiches with chips on the inside. The Mac N Cheese is 5-star worthy! Lastly, the seating outdoors is plenty and gives picnic-in-the-park vibes which adds to the experience. The food here was a mixed review. I really wanted to like this place after recently moving to HB. The prices were fair but the sandwiches were small. I'd rather them raise prices and put a bit more filling. The corned beef sandwich on rye was tiny. Barely any meat, too much sauce. Pizza bread, is what it is but felt small for $7. It's literally a roll with sauce and cheese. The best thing here which is the meatball sub which was hefty and worth. We ordered a veggie sandwich and it was loaded loaded with banana peppers but not in a good way. Maybe I picked the wrong things and I'll try something else. Update: I took a look at past pictures and it looks like they putting less into the sandwiches, maybe to cut costs but not the right way. The kid size sandwich is a good deal for me at lunch when I'm hungry and craving a sandwich. I've gone there 4-5 times in the last two months because it's close by. I went in this week and when I tried to order a kid's turkey sandwich, the guy said they stopped making those and that I needed to get a #13 instead. The next day, my friend went at lunch and was able to get a kid's turkey sandwich meal. How come I was told it was discontinued but another customer was still able to get it? The tables were nice and shaded by the building, and it was a nice day so it was pretty nice to be able to sit outside After receiving the sandwich, I thought "Oh this isn't that small" - but after unwrapping the sub, I realized the paper had gaslit me into thinking the sandwich was bigger than it would end up being. When the other reviews said these subs were small, they are not kidding. The bread was maybe a 5" hoagie roll that was just a little bit bigger than a hotdog bun. The meats and olive spread were good. If they had sliced cheese, maybe they'd get another star, but the shredded cheese just ends up falling out. The food here is great. I highly recommend the Crazy Dave, Dave's meatball sub, and the Turkey Dave. The service at this location is horrendous. It took 33 minutes after my pickup time to get my food. There were only 2 employees and they were in no hurry to finish any orders. I don't expect stellar service when I get fast food, but this was exceptionally bad. As far as ambiance, the restaurant is small but there are a few bar seats inside and ample outdoor seating. We found this place on yelp and decided to get sandwiches for the beach. They are open for pickup during covid. They were doing a good job about only having one person in at a time (I didn't know the rules until a worker..who could've been a bit more friendly... told me to wait outside), and they had stickers on the ground for social distancing. They also had all the doors open. I give them low stars because of the sandwich itself....it was sooooo soggy by the time I got to the beach. We ate them after 15-20 mins we got them. I even asked for the mayo on the side. All six of the sandwich orders were super oily and the pickles added to the sogginess (as they were wrapped with the sandwiches). It felt like I was eating bread soaked in water. I also didn't care for the shredded cheese that was on my sandwich. One star for sandwiches but another star for implementing safety. I hate giving such low ratings during hard times but I felt I had to, in order for this business to make improvements for future customers. read more
