Not sure where the people giving this "diner" 3,4 or 5 stars ate. You don't have to be in the food industry to see that Dave's is unorganized and dirty. 4 or 5 people were working, and only 4 order tickets for the cook, workers looked overwhelmed. The food handling needs to be addressed, 4-star prices for 1-star quality. If the kitchen and staff are on display it's imperative to be clean and organized. Pay a short-order cook, he or she will dial that place in a snap. I hope they are able to right the ship. read more

Waitress nice but food was awful. Pancakes cold n burnt. Potatoes were cold and half cooked with burnt on one side not cooked on the other. Eggs were not cooked as asked n when returned the cook put one egg back on the grill and never cooked the other egg at all . First time I've ever seen a egg thrown back on the grill . I often tie up at Pelican Yacht Club across the street from Dave's. I always grab an early breakfast before heading back out to sea. This evening however, I stopped in for dinner as Mino's Italian next door was out of business. I'm glad I did. By first mate had sausage and onion/peppers on a hogie with homemade potato salad. I had a 1/2 bacon cheese burger with home made mashed potatoes and beef gravy. Everything was delicious and Kaitlyn and Amber took very good care of us. Dave's is not much to look at. It sits in the corner of a strip mall. It is small inside but there is a little bit of seating outside too. The place is dirty, but for some reason, this is ok...maybe what you'd expect from a typical greasy diner. The staff is friendly and they do keep some really late/early hours so it's a good place to hit at weird times when you need food. I have only ever had breakfasts there and they are cheap, fast, and taste just fine. If you are big into cleanliness, hand washing, and hairnets, this ain't the place for you. If you just need some good greasy food to satisfy your hang over, for example, this is your place. read more

We didn't have their hamburgers, but they appeared to be about the size of a saucer, with lots of dressings. They have five booths and seven stools at the counter. I'm a taxi driver and I had just dropped a customer off on Seaway Drive and it was early, so I asked Siri to show me a place nearby me that I can get a really good breakfast. So good ole Siri brought up several places, but Dave's Diner stood out to me because it was so close. It was one minute away. So I head over there and I called in a order to go for pick up. I have been visiting Florida for the last 5 years and somehow missed this gem! If you are looking for a quick home cooked breakfast, this is the place to go! I stopped in this morning for breakfast and was greeted by a very friendly waitress who cleared a spot at the counter for me. Restaurant appears to be a spot regulars frequent. It's situated next door to a laundromat which makes it convenient for those doing their wash. I had 2 eggs, with sliced tomatoes (I opted for this instead of home fries or grits) and pancakes. Pancakes were light, fluffy & delicious!! My bill was $4.50!!!! Definitely recommend giving it a try!! read more

It's food. Personally, I like Lenzi's diner much much better. This place isn't very clean and understaffed. We had the corned beef hash, grits, biscuit, gravy and eggs. The eggs looked strange but it was all edible food. Like the other gentleman mentioned, I too had a long hair in my biscuit. The kitchen is visible from the dining room (note: this place is the size of a waffle house with crummy food and less cleanliness). No hair nets, pilled dirty dishes. They said they were understaffed today. I won't be returning during peak hours but if I get hungry at 2/3 am (open 24 hours) I will probably go because it is down the street from the house and they will probably be much more attentive. If it's peak times stay away, also if there is some other place available don't consider this an option. read more

Stopped in Dave's Diner on my way to my Mom's funeral. What a hidden gem of a breakfast place near the beach. The service was perfect and the food spot on. Definitely try the sausage gravy and biscuits, home fries and eggs. I sat at the counter to eat as this place is small and didn't want to take up a full table. Thee local late night spot for post bar action on Hutchinson Island. The prices are good. Best diner breakfast I've had since I left NY! The home fries def needed seasoning (ketchup helped), but the pancakes were like eating the softest, fluffiest clouds from heaven. I never knew a pancake could be so amazing! The place is small, the service is quick and polite but a little impersonal, so if you have to be coddled like a little baby when you go out to eat, this might not be your kind of place. And if you ask them to "butter them for me" they will soak those bad boys in melty butter before they bring them to you. The special omelet is the huge. And delicious. The women working there are genuinely happy. It's like Christmas morning as a kid when your dad cooked breakfast and your mom brought it to you and every thing was as it should be in the world. Dave's Diner is open 24/7 but I have only ordered from their breakfast menu. Have dined there several dozen times I can justify my five star rating. 1) You can't mess up eggs. They are what they are and they are served scrambled, poached or fried. They are served exactly as ordered and served hot off the grill. 2) Dave's breakfast potatoes are THE BEST! Cooked on the grill and crisp on the outside but not over cooked. I prefer the potatoes over the grits because the grits are nothing special. 3) Their bacon is thick and crisp, just the way I like it! 4) Their breakfast special is served with the diner's choice of bread; toast, English muffin or pancakes. The pancakes are the best deal and by themselves, they are large enough to satisfy most appetites. 5) The breakfast special also includes a bottomless cup of coffee (fresh and hot) or tea. The breakfast special is reasonably priced and available all day, every day. Though they offer burgers, chicken and other items I have only eaten there in the morning or late night. They also serve a really good egg omelet. It may not appear to be the cleanest but I have been in more than 100 commercial kitchens and very few have been any better. It's a "standard" kitchen that consistently meets health department standards. One can choose to sit on an outside patio, at an inside booth or on stools overlooking the food prep area. I do not work there and have no reason to offer a five star rating other than being a loyal repeat customer who enjoys good food served hot and at a fair price. read more

I'm on Hutchinson Island once a month visiting a family member, and we always go to Dave's for breakfast. We love it. The coffee is GOOD. This is the thing I care most about. The waitresses are friendly and the food is good and that combination makes me very happy. It's super busy on Sunday mornings, so we don't always get a table and sometimes have to eat at the counter, which is fine with me. It's like getting a free cooking show! We love watching how quick and orchestrated the staff are. It's a very tiny work space and we're always amazed at how smooth they make everything look. I always order the same thing, so my review won't be too broad. Two eggs sunnyside up, two slices of toast, and a pancake. It's PERFECT. I tried the hashbrowns once and they leave something to be desired so pass on those. Otherwise, if you want eggs or toast or pancakes, this is the place to go to. My breakfast companion always gets some meat things and he always seems happy with them. Yes, the service can seem slow at times but that's because they're so freaking busy! And they're busy every single time I go there, which I take as a sign of happy business and repeat customers. I almost didn't leave a review because frankly I don't want more people to know about this place because let's face it, seating is limited and I want to make sure I have a seat! But then I read some of the negative reviews from a bunch of snowbirds and decided to put in my two cents worth. Dave's has great food and hard working employees. read more

Haven't been here in years, but after last night eating there, will not be back. First, had a hard time finding a seat at one of the booths even though we were the only two people in there, due to every single booth seat either being torn up or severely stained. Then, what I ordered was overcooked, but the thing that made my stomach turn was watching the owner who was cooking, not wearing gloves, as he peeled and cut potatoes. His bare hands were all over the cut potatoes as he was moving them around in the bowl. Their last inspection records, early November, shows not washing hands before handling food as an immediate, REPEAT offense. And let's not forget the two bugs that flew at our table while trying to eat. Wow, it was good years ago, but it's hit the crapper now. What a shame. And apparently, the health dept. allows your food to be touched with bare hands if NOT "ready to eat". The gloves only apply to if it is going right out yo you. Shouldn't gloves be on a hand any time it is touching food, at any stage? If they haven't previously washed their hands, who knows if a bathroom visit happened right before, or they picked their nose?! Yikes! read more

Diner's are my favorite so I'm a pretty harsh judge. This place from start to finish was amazing. It was completely packed when we came in but all the servers were calm, friendly, and immediately acknowledged us. Coffee never got halfway empty and all the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy what they were doing. Food was insanely good. Best pancakes I've ever had in my life.
