I stopped by Dave's Hot Chicken in Anaheim with my family and ordered the chicken sandwich with a single chicken strip meal. My wife ordered the two chicken strip meal, with one strip having no spice so she could share it with our daughter. The food was a bit inconsistent. My chicken strip was thick and juicy, and my daughter's strip was also really juicy and nicely cooked. Unfortunately, one of my wife's chicken strips was the complete opposite--much thinner and noticeably drier. The chicken sandwich was decent overall. The restaurant was very busy and appeared to be short-staffed, so I understand that keeping up with everything can be difficult. That said, the cleanliness of the dining area definitely needs some attention. One of the tables looked like someone had changed the oil on a car on it, and while the floor wasn't terrible, it could definitely use a good sweeping. On the positive side, considering how busy they were and how short-staffed they seemed to be, our food still came out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, the food has potential and some of the chicken was really good, but the inconsistency and cleanliness issues keep this visit at about 3 out of 5 stars. The food was ok. I ordered The #1, waited about 20-30 minutes. It was pretty busy but not crazy but my food came out lukewarm, which I was not expecting since the wait was a bit long. They have 2 kiosk and I think 1 or 2 registers which makes the order process quick. The bathroom was also closed off by trashcans, not sure if it was employees only, not much seating on the inside, but outside which Is great for fresh air. Anyways back to the food, I ordered a medium spice hot mozz & 1 medium and 1 mild tender. The mozz was warm not hot but still had a good cheese pull. None of them were spicy, by the reviews on social media I was expecting it to be spicy, but it literally had NO SPICE at all. The chicken was not dry, but it was not juicy nor tender, like a in between. It was super salty! No contrast in flavor, no sweetness, no spice, just salt! Same with the fries, salty, hard and cold, not the crunchy on the outside soft in the middle hard. Just hard. Also there was a lot of breading on the chicken but only 1 good crunch on the first bite of each tender. I do not have a high spice tolerance, neither does my brother and friend, they both agreed and said it was not spicy. The sauce is good, the ice is amazing and it had a good cheese-pull tho. I'd give the food 4 stars, but the customer service is a solid 5 stars and honestly, that's what keeps me coming back. It's rare to find a place where every single staff member is consistently friendly, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. They truly go above and beyond. I'd even say they outshine places like In-N-Out and Chick-fil-A when it comes to service. The food itself is good, definitely a step above typical fast food and always hits the spot after a long shift. Nothing overly fancy, but reliable and satisfying. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. I ordered the two tender sliders w/ fries and vanilla shake. The lite mild slider was good and, as described, light on spice. The no spice slider, however, lacked seasoning and was just OK. I'm not good at tolerating heat, but I'd rather have spicy food that's seasoned than bland food within my comfort level. The sauce on the side helped a little. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the perfect amount of seasoning. The milkshake was thick and the taste was ice cream-rich - definitely not watered down with two much milk or other liquid. I definitely recommend the food here. Foods: We got the chicken tenders, sliders, and fries with medium heat. We really appreciated that the chickens are cooked fresh. They were steaming hot when we got our food. The medium heat was spicy but not too much spice to the point where we didn't enjoy it. The slider came with slaw and pickles. The fries were seasoned well. Everything paired deliciously together. I've been to Dave's Hot Chicken and this specific location countless times now, and it's easily become one of my go-to spots when I'm craving hot chicken! So good -- perfectly seasoned, with that signature blend of heat and flavor. I usually go for the tenders or the slider combo, and no matter what spice level I choose, the flavor has always been bold and consistent. The meat is juicy, the breading is not too greasy, and the pickles and delicious Dave's sauce adds just the right balance! That said, I've noticed one reoccurring issue: the temperature of the food is a hit or miss. There have been times when my meal came out piping hot, crispy and was an overall 10/10! Unfortunately other times, the chicken was lukewarm or just barely warm when biting into it -- which 100% lessens my eating experience. Still, I keep coming back because the flavor and quality really does make up for the inconsistency. The crinkle-cut fries are always seasoned well, and the Dave's sauce I could probably eat with anything! We finally got a chance to try Dave's hot chicken. We only ordered a big box of 40mini bites and box of fried. It was good. Similar to Cane's but with multiple spice options. The kids enjoyed it and we made our own sandwiches with mini buns. We also had the bites over a salad. It's good. Busy location since it's next to the Angel's stadium and apartments. It was my first time at Dave's Hot Chicken, and it wasn't my cup of tea. Not sure if it was just the time of night I went or something, but I don't think it lives up to the hype. I got it extra hot and hot since I wanted to see the difference in spice, and since it was my first time, I wanted to test the waters with the spiciness. Honestly, I didn't think it was spicy at all, and that the hot and extra hot tasted the same. The rub they used just wasn't that tasty to me, and it just tasted a bit weird. It kind of had a burnt pepper-y taste to it, not quite sure how to describe it, but i just didn't add anything special to the chicken. The chicken itself was pretty good as it was juicy and crispy. I thought the fries were also decent, as they are well seasoned, nothing much to complain about there. it Overall, I wasn't a big fan of the seasoning for the chicken, but the portion size is pretty large, so that is a plus. We all know Dave's food is the best, but this location has impeccable customer service. A few weeks ago, my friend ordered some Dave's from DoorDash. She didn't notice that it was a location in Santa Ana, and we came to this location because it's closer to my house. Even though this location is a separate franchise, the manager (Eileen) was kind enough to make another order for us on the house. She also explained to us how we could cancel the other order and receive a refund from the other store. I'd also like to highlight Elleuder who was our initial server and the one who handed me the order in the end. The level of accommodation these two gave us was outstanding. This was the first time I had ever gone to Dave's Hot Chicken. The food was delicious, and the hospitality was somehow better than the food. They gave me extra "Dave's Sauce" and extra honey. It was not a long interaction but it was very nice. I do not know the name of the person that attended me but she was incredibly kind and helpful.
