First off, Dave's Hot Chicken logo is quite intriguing. I have quite a high expectation for chicken sandwiches so this critique was made very thoroughly. Starting off with the quality of the chicken: - satisfying crunch on every bite and the balance of the seasoning was distributed perfectly. The chicken wasn't very moist, but wasn't also very dry either. I personally prefer a significantly larger piece of chicken, but for a slider, the size will do. As for the spicing - I admire the plentiful levels of spice to cater to everyone's capabilities. Just for reference: medium is just a bit hotter than hot Cheetos. For the chicken's supporting cast on the slider, you can find yourself some fresh sliced pickles with a well balanced coleslaw. But don't forget, to pair it all with a generous amount of Dave's sauce which completed every bite. Side note: The Mac and cheese was solid as well. Came on a wknd and got lucky with the curbside parking. The staff here is really friendly! I've been craving Dave's and decided to get my usual Hot Slider Combo. I'm always impressed by how perfect the food turns out! I can taste the individual layers. The tenders were very flavorful and juicy while the pickles were nice and crisp. The buns ties the whole thing together without being too heavy. Also let's not forget about their fries! This is arguably the best fried chicken sandwich shop in the 626! I have been here a few times, all of which have been to go orders so I can't speak on their dine in experience. However, each time I have ordered Dave's, I am always blown away by their quality! The soft, pillowy, slightly sweet bun, and crispy, well seasoned fried chicken balances so well with the coleslaw and pickles. The combination is spectacular! The sauce is great as well; I love that they give you the option of honey packets!! The portions are also massive! The two slider and fries combo is more than enough for two people. We ordered this on Doordash and it was pretty good! We tried the medium and hot and it's got great flavor and texture still! The hot was a bit much for us but we still liked it. The bread is a great pairing to the sliders, as well as the butter pickles. We also got kale slaw and Mac and cheese. That was met with less fanfare. Mac and cheese was kraftlike, less elevated experience. While the slaw was like eating fat on salad. Didn't taste of slaw at all. I'd still recommend this place but lose the expectations read more

Hmmm....having lived in the south I sometimes wonder about Hot Chicken places in LA, I've driven past Dave's every time I visit the Starbucks next door and thought I'd finally check it out. Pros: The service is stellar! Love the kindness of the employees. I also love that the combo #3 allowed for both a tender/slider. Finally, was excited that my order was ready at the quoted time :) Cons: The chicken. Okay, I have to reiterate paprika does NOT equal hot chicken. I cannot stand paprika. I asked on the phone if the spice was paprika and they mentioned the spice rub was an abundance of spices that included paprika (as soon as I heard that I got mild). When I tell y'all all I tasted was paprika...my goodness. My chicken was a dark orange/red dusting of the stuff. Nashville Hot Chicken is usually a hot chili oil based chicken, its crispy, leaves a burn, and is not typically just a dry rub. While I was disappointed, I will say if you are someone that likes crinkle fries, you'll love them here :) I won't be back for the chicken, but the service was top notch! read more

This is one of my favorite places to get food from in Glendale. I've never had spicy chicken that's dry spiced and not covered in traditional Buffalo sauce, it's a game changer. I ate here once and have ordered it 3 more times in the last month because it's so good. The staff also does a really great job trying to get orders out for how busy they are. Every time I go in there, everyone is hustling. I've also seen them be very patient and polite to customers that were acting like they've never been in public before. People are acting like animals during COVID and this staff does a good job of handling the chaos. Everyone is masked and you can see their thermometer and check in station to make sure their staff is healthy. Tonight for some reason my order got lost, I got the confirmation but they didn't receive it on their end. No biggie, it happens! Brianna was SO sweet, she apologized repeatedly and got my food out to me within minutes of realizing what happened. I'm in the service industry so I try to be extra patient and understanding, Brianna could not have handled the situation better. I sincerely appreciate how friendly she was and how quickly they took care of the situation! Please please treat the staff kindly and with respect if you eat here (and anywhere!) they work SO hard. I remember a couple of years ago: it was summer and hotter than hell and Joe and i waited over 2 hours to gain access to a Dave's Hot plate of Tenders, Sliders and fries. I remember at the time curious why people were so freaked out about this pretty much first venue in LA serving Nashville Hot chicken. I too as well as Joe became fans even as we sat in his car, sweating and eating hot chicken, hot fries and hot aioli. And now we have a Dave's in Glendale. And this on the face of it is a good thing. On this, my third visit to a "Hot Chicken" joint in Glendale (Chicken and chips, Rockbird being the first two) i was more than mildly disappointed. i noticed via their website that Dave's is offering franchises and so this can be ok but often it is not. There always seems to be issues of implementation of the original concept in a new store: issues of the original recipes being adhered to, sourcing done per the original concept, etc., etc. So i ordered: 2 sliders, med hot with fries Side of fries As opposed to the debacle of food quality issues of last Saturday at Chicken and Chips, Dave's food arrived, via take out of course, carefully packed in order to dampen the excess moisture which rings the death knell to crispy foods. There is one major issue with the chicken. if i had to guess, since my order was the 4th today: the oil was not hot enough as the breading was greasy and sliding off though the chicken itself was moist and cooked through. i could wipe the breading off easily with a finger. (note the showcase photos taken by Dave's how hard a shell there is on the chicken) The med hot spiciness is good but i could have handled a degree of hotness up a notch or two. I will do that next time. the bun was buttered and slightly toasted and intact, not limp, the pickles, dilly and tasty and a nice balance to the aioli and the richness and spiciness of the chicken. The fries are crinkle cut and fried well meaning crispy and dusted with a combo of salt, garlic powder (guess)and chile powder. Good but not as good as Rockbird up the street...probably just a personal preference on my part. The service person taking the order was helpful and personable and i had my food within 15 minutes. COVID protocols were followed and those waiting were asked to wait outside and to social distance. Dave's as the original Nashville Hot Chicken joint in LA along with Howlin' Ray's should lead and be the flag bearer of all such hot chicken stores. Franchise or not. All stores (with more coming on) need to adhere to the original's excellence on a consistent basis.
