Tipped these bum's and come to find out they don't even bring the food to you (please remove the option to tip... so dumb and pointless). I went to wait at the counter when they called the number before ours, and the girl working there gave me an awkward smirk like it was weird that I was standing there waiting before she called my number. Once our food was ready, I asked her if there was saucein the bag, and she said there's one in there for the tender's, so I asked for an extra sauce for my slider. She was about to grab one, then hesitated and said we don't give sauce for just a slider and it's $0.25 extra if I want another one and asked if that was ok. NO, it's not ok. No, I don't want to wait in line and swipe my card for another transaction just for $0.25. Just give me a fucking sauce! I've been to the one in El Cajon plenty of times and they were never greedy about giving out an extra sauce... I could understand if they already gave one sauce per item and we wanted like 3 more, but to not include a side of sauce for one of the item's and try to charge is fucking ridiculous. I've been to Dave's in LA, and was worried quality would suffer once it expanded. Food was solid and on par with my The East Hollywood location , and my review stands. I don't care for the slaw at all. The fries and mac and cheese are solid. I've tried plain, mild, hot, extra hot, and reaper. Personally - the heat level I opt for it "Hot". Right balance of spice and flavor. We were lucky, I hear lines are crazy since they just opened. We went on a Tuesday at 5pm, line was about 20-25 min to order, then it ttook about 20 min to get our food. Howlin Rays in LA is still the GOAT, but it's not local. Dave's is a solid spot and it did not disappoint. I'm glad we have a spot like this in the area now. read more

Updating to one star: WATCH OUT FOR UNDERCOOKED CHICKEN! Slimy crab texture like chicken. I was craving the first experience of hot chicken again. So I brought my family in last week. The tenders in the sliders were UNDERCOOKED. I took it back and the friendly girl at the counter took it back and had the cooks make another meal for me. This time was cooked right. Well tonight I was craving the first experience again and again all my family's chicken tenders were UNDERCOOKED again. My kids ended up eating their fries and bread. So I took a slider and 2 tenders back from our meals. My husbands were border line and barely cooked thoroughly. The girl giving food out apologized and let the guys know in the back to cook us more tenders and slider. We got our food and UNDERCOOKED AGAIN. Pretty much at this point I give up and I will not eat here again. 3 strikes and your out! My little boys chicken tasted like rubber texture when you bite into it. He tore it in half and set it down. I looked at it and saw undercooked. Our chicken had the texture of king crab and was translucent slimy. I am posting photos of it after it sat for 15 minutes and it's still slimy! At this point I threw my food away and walked out the door. Waste of money and walked to Wendy's. So crowed and went outside, but no speaker for calling out numbers. If you eat inside you have someone's backside on you or they are just standing staring at you eat while they wait for their food. The cove area would be better if there wasn't any tables and chairs and built a small table shelf around the wall and put stools there. As for outside maybe if they had some roll down covers for the sun / wind, more people would eat out there. Just an idea, since its such a small room. Expand. Parking is insane. First time here never again . Usually I go to canes and this is not even comparable. The chicken is over seasoned, the bread is 99 cent white bread w no taste , very cheap, the sauce is tasteless. The flavors do not go well together and it cost 31$ for 2 combos with only one drink . But I tried it and I can check it off my list no harm done . Never again . I've been wanting to eat at Dave's for years. So great to see one added in our city. Food did not disappoint. Actually it was surprisingly good. Hot Sliders were just the right heat. You can tell they aren't scared to crank it up. All sides were great and we got our food relatively fast for it being the first day open with a huge line. Anyone saying raising canes is better is out of their minds. Dave's is an add to the Permanent roster. RCs was ok that one time we wanted to eat like kids again. read more

Been anxiously awaiting the opening of this location since it's in my home town! This area has been dying for a good hot chicken place. I have had Dave's in Los Angeles a few times so I knew what I was in for. Went on the grand opening and now I'm back the very next day so there is your answer whether they lived up to expectations. Dave's did not disappoint. The flavors and chicken was just what I remember and expected. Juicy well sized portions and seasoned to perfection. I opted to go full spectrum ordering from Lite Mild all the way to Reaper (!) The difference in the levels is not just spice. I feel the hot loses a little bit of the seasoning that the mild thru medium had. The very hot was not much hotter than the hot but the Reaper was definitely spicier. However, not as hot as you'd think. The spice is the kind that builds up as you eat but it wasn't unbearably hot. (For reference, it is comparable to Prince's Hot Chicken "medium" level. They are in Nashville) The service was great and they were so busy. That being said, the line moved quick and food came out relatively fast. A little mixup in our order the second day but they fixed it very quickly. But for an opening weekend I feel they did amazing. Will enjoy coming back many, many more times. read more

The sandwiches has no spice and the portions are a lot smaller but the prices are the same. I can tell you, I took the plunge and went ahead and tried the Carolina Reaper chicken sandwich and tender. WOW!!!! INTENSE!!!! Even with all of that spice I get the flavor of the chicken and it was juicy. The atmosphere was chill, great music playing and friendly patrons. I've been wanting to try this place but decided to wait until the hype died down. Place definitely wasn't over crowded but did have a lot of traffic for the location, especially since it not easy to get into or just stop by, so it's a stop you would have planned. The menu is simple which makes ordering an easy process. The food was ready pretty quickly and resembles the menu pics and the chicken was juicy. With that being said the experience goes downhill from there. We ordered the slider meal and slider strip combo with Mac and cheese, total came in at around $32.00. Mac and cheese was creamy but very bland, I imagine this what a serving of paste with pasta would taste like. Fries were crispy and well seasoned. Sliders were quite large and we could have shared a meal. Oh goody what's worse than bad chicken...big portions of bad chicken. The spice flavoring on the chicken was waaaayyy too overpowering and chicken was very greasy. Eating it was like a bad magic trick, the taste got worse the more you ate. How is that even possible?? It was my idea to eat here so I kept quiet and managed to choke down half a slider with out complaint. Boy was I relieved when the hubby said what I was thinking out loud!!! Needless to say, neither of us ate even half of our meals. What a disappointing waste of money. Lesson learned...In the mood for chicken??? I suggest Raising Cane's for the strips and Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich in place of the sliders. Way better taste and a heck of a lot friendlier on your wallet. read more
