My love for Dave's Hot Chicken hasn't disappeared since opening day. My family frequently visits this establishment for their sliders. I love the customizable spice levels, and I typically get a Mild but I've noticed that their Mild appears to vary a bit. Not sure if there is a way to consistency measure the spice levels, because I'd like to try the Medium again but it was quite spicy last time and the Mild seems less spicy from time to time. What I would really love is a Spice Sampler box of some sort where we can order tenders from multiple spice levels to compare. Please make this an option!!! read more

My experience at Dave's was like a journey going from not good to good overall. Some items were 2-star, some were 4, so I settled on 3. I ordered the #3 combo which has a slider, chicken tender, and fries. Add in a bottled soda and the total came to $17.37. I started with the chicken tender. It's huge with a lot of breading which is good and bad. Two problems: lack of chicken and lack of a flavor profile. See the picture for a cross-section of the tender. I don't necessarily have a problem with that but the dominating flavor is cayenne pepper. I like that as a spice, but not as a flavor. So off the bat I wasn't very happy. I dipped it into the sauce which only made a small dent in the lack of flavor. The sauce isn't bad but kind of mild overall. Not something like Raising Caines. I went in for the fries which are crinkle cut which is my favorite, but they dust them with a red powder that again just takes away from the flavor overall. Throw in my $2.99 bottled drink and I was ready for a 2-star review. Then I got to the slider. Big difference. They add soft bread, sauce, pickles, and coleslaw which gives it a tangy pop. The chicken fits in with the flavor profile overall on this one. Everything came together nicely. I was surprised at the difference between this and the tender. One last knock: sodas. They have a fridge behind the counter with bottles of soda like it's 1967. I didn't know they had fountain drinks until I went around the corner and saw the machine there. I drink a lot, especially with spicy food, so I was bummed they kind of hid it away. I didn't want to get back in line for a refund/repurchase. Overall the place is clean and conveniently located. The staff were really friendly. Plenty of parking. The food is made to order so it's really hot which is a huge plus in this day and age. Only takes a few minutes to get your order. Lots of heat levels so you can choose one to your liking. I might try it again but I'm not sure. I'd have to be in the mood for the chicken sandwich and I'll skip the fries and tenders. read more

One thing to understand is that its a new, hot, and upcoming restaurant so the wait times may be a little high, but it's worth the wait! The staff is extremely kind and understanding, and they were definitely trying their best to get the food out as quick and efficiently as possible. The service was amazing you can tell the staff was high energy outside and in kitchen. The chicken itself is well flavored and you can choose hotness (honestly not too hot for reference I hate hot Cheetos but could eat the mild wings). I really appreciate that they have different levels of spicy because I love a spicy chicken sandwich and so many places claim theirs is spicy when it isn't. I got mine "hot" and it had a nice kick but I'll probably go "extra hot" next time. The slaw is crunchy and adds a nice balance to the spice. Delicious food. The chicken is crispy and well seasoned. The sauce is a little tangy and a little spicy. The coleslaw is a perfect topping and it's crunchy and tasty as well. The people at the counter are super friendly. The woman who told me to add extra sauce and honey was just about the nicest person I've met in a customer service role. Been to Dave's in the past but this was my first time to the Tucson location. I really enjoy the chicken here. The extra spicy is perfect and not anything that will set you mouth on fire. ORDER TOOK AN HOUR AND TWENTY: We ordered online on a Sunday night. We expected it to be a wait since it is new, but the online order site said it would be ready in about 20 minutes at 7pm. When my husband got there, the line was out the door. That was the line for pick up orders as well as in person ordering. My husband is very patient, so he waited. He noticed that people ordering in person were getting their food faster than the people waiting in line for online orders. I understand that it is busy, but they need to make adjustments so they aren't taking on more orders than is possible for them to fill in a reasonable amount of time. Many people there were quite angry and the poor staff were forced to deal with that. FOOD: When we finally got our food, our order was wrong and missing things. My husband had to go back inside to get the one missing item that wouldn't require waiting longer. Ultimately, we did like the food.
