First Impressions: This was my first time at Dave's Hot Chicken, and the moment I cracked open the box I knew the hype was real. The crispy chicken, golden fries, and pillowy buns looked like they'd just walked off a food-modeling runway. Portion sizes were generous, and that mouth-watering aroma hit me before I even grabbed a bite. Interactions: Every team member I spoke with was upbeat and welcoming. Even during a busy rush, they kept things moving smoothly and double-checked my order--perfect way to make a newcomer feel right at home. Service: Fast, organized, and focused on quality. The food was still hot and fresh when it reached me--no cold fries or hurried assembly. You could tell they cared about getting every detail right. Food: The star of the show: those spicy chicken sliders--crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and packed with well-balanced heat. The creamy slaw and sauce added just the right contrast. The crinkle-cut fries were cooked to golden perfection with that addictive seasoned dusting. Every bite tasted like comfort and excitement rolled into one. Value: For the flavor, quality, and hefty portions, the price felt more than fair. It's premium taste without a premium price tag--exactly what you hope for on a first visit. Recommendation: Five stars, hands down. If you're a hot-chicken fan (or even if you're just curious), Dave's should be on your must-try list. After this stellar first experience, I'll definitely be back for round two--and probably three.

Such a fun place for chicken! The chicken is definitely hot! Make sure you pick something under what you would normally get to start! The wait was a bit long for food but did not disappoint! The interior art is also super unique, but they could maybe turn the volume of the music down a bit.

The mascot--the chicken here is far from rubbery. It's tender and spiced perfectly.

And so...For some reason, although I have noticed the Dave's Hot Chicken restaurant from the road, I did not think that it would be a place that would interest me. What!?.. with all that Graffiti (that those "ruffian teenagers" are into) decorating the walls and all. But today, as I was finishing up some business from across the 6 lanes traffic on Broadway, the bright colors of Dave's Chicken caught my eye. Some might say the corpes of the chickens that were being prepared to become nuggets and strips were much like the sirens (half-women/half birds) of Greek mythology and began to beckon me. Other's, who are not idiots, would say, "Sometimes... for reasons we don't fully understand, you just say, 'WTF...I'll give this new place or new experience a try.' " I guess it doesn't really matter what it was that motivated me to go there,...I'm just glad that I went. So now that I sampled Dave's....Here, in no particular order, are my reasons why the place is worth a shot. Reason 1. The chicken was *fire! (*that's how kids that spray graffiti describe something that is good...like, really good.) *No cap, (more groovy talk--this time it means something like, "I'm not exaggerating--or it means I'm not going to put a bullet in you ). Anyway, no cap, the chicken is juicy. it's flavorful, and it's rolled in just the right combinations of spices to make it... dope. Reason 2. The staff makes you feel very welcomed... and they make you feel appreciated... and very much cared for. For example, the front-end person who was working the cash register...let's call her, "Kayla" (because that's really her name), was exceptional. She obviously has a heart of gold and is highly skilled in the arts of interpersonal skills. As I walked in, she greeted me with the warmest of smiles and an enthusiastic, "Hello!". I returned her warm welcome, by just looking up at the menu board. (I swear, I sometimes think I am on the spectrum. Being a child of the 70's, my mom would have given me a firm, but loving swat on the butt, and then she would have told me to speak to the nice lady). When I got to the front of the line, I apologized for my lack of grace. She laughed at my self-awareness and that I recognized my lack of social skills. She told me to not worry about it. Kayla also did stuff like made sure customers were offered extra sauce and napkins (if needed), she speaks to everyone with a kind voice, she hustles, and when a little girl came up to give her order, Kayla was patient and super nice to the kid. (You know when someone is kind by the way they treat kids, wait-staff, and animals.) 3. The ambiance was pleasing. Sometimes the music in food establishments is played too loud--or they play that annoying hip hop that those kids who spray graffiti on walls like. But the beats that were dropping were dripp'n. As I noshed on the grubs I noted the graffiti themed art and was vib'ing on it all. As I dropped the mic and walked out, I knew that I would be coming back. This place is on point.

Decent sandwich. Will not be back. Very dry and they do not offer ranch, mayo or sauce. With all of the chicken sandwich restaurants popping up you can just skip this one.

Ordering: Only 6 basic things on the menu, chicken strips or chicken sliders or a combination of both. They also have large family items as well. Most come with fries, or you can sub cheese fries, coleslaw, or mac and cheese. The chicken has about 6 or 7 heat levels from mild to reaper. If ordering reaper you have to sign a waiver. We ordered a variety of heat levels from mild to reaper. This will be the only time I say this, if you like the devil himself giving you a wet sloppy kiss then the reaper is for you! This flavor is BEYOND hot. It will make your teeth bleed. The mild were good, the medium the best. I am giving a three star rating because unless you are having chicken and waffles, chicken in no way should be sweet. Then add in the Dave's sauce, which is amazing and you have more of a candy coated chicken. This is hard to say because they are just crinkle cut fries, but, they were AMAZING! Hot, salty and cheesy. They could stand a little more cheese on the cheese fries. Decent coleslaw. Plan to wait a bit as you are handed a buzzy box after ordering which means everything is made fresh and was nice and hot ( stove hot) when it arrived. Great staff, very friendly, and the establishment was clean. The price was reasonable too. I will likely go back at some point, but since I prefer savory over sweet I will still go up the road to Louisiana's favorite first. A solid B+ / C

I usually dont leave reviews to fastfood establishment, coz, lets be honest no one really cares about their service and foods(at least most of the time) but this establishment is REALLY DOING GREAT!! From cashier to the food, really really good. The customer service is awesome, id be so tired from work but the warm welcome and sincere smiles from the crew always lifts my spirit up, no kidding, theyre all nice! And i know its part of their job but theyre just genuinely nice people, never had issue with them, always apologetic whenever theres an issue, even if its really a simple issue. My first time to Dave's. Saw a video on YouTube from the Company Man and decided to try it. Had the hot chicken strips with fries, seems like a large portion for the price. The price of the drink was reasonable. The temperature of the spice was good. The taste wasn't so good. Tasted like chilli powder. A lot of chilli power. I wouldn't order it again. Quality of the food is outstanding. Flavor and presentation are incredible compared to anything in the same price range. Staff is friendly, facility is clean, and prices are fair. Service is a little slower, but that's to be expected given the freshness and quality. They're no worse than a Culver's, Steak n Shake, Whataburger, or Shake Shack in terms of cost or wait-time, however, I would choose Dave's over all of those options in a heartbeat. PS- The spice is no joke here! I have a freakishly high heat tolerance and their highest heat sandwich ruined me. Everything "Very Hot" and below on their heat scale are manageable and uniquely delicious, though. read more

I did a mobile order and it said 9-12 minutes. I walk in after 12 minutes and I was told a few more minutes. After 10 minutes I went up and I was told "we're backed up, it's going to take awhile." I asked for my money back and after 5 minutes and a manager, I was told the next day to should post. I received a text about my experience and I responded about my experience and waiting on my refund. I was text to give a day to post. 4 days later, no refund on my card but the charge posted sure did post. So text the number to ask about my refund and you know what, it was never processed at all and want me to email customer service. I'm just going to dispute through my bank and will never go back to this location. Sad that you'll take someone's money, yet when a refund is requested, you sit on your hands and make someone jump through hoops to get their money back for food I didn't get nor do I want. I encourage others not to go here unless you want to sit and wait for long periods of time. read more

Service was terrible at this location....i sat in the drive thru for a 7:15 pm on a Sunday few minutes and no one answered. I went in to order my food and mentioned that I was sitting in the drive thru and the person working said oh sorrry the headset is dead and we are charging it. The Food: Meh..... And I mean barely Meh. The Atmosphere: Music so loud I could not carry-on a conversation with my wife sitting less than 2 feet away from me. Service: SLOW The Prices: WAY HIGH for that which you receive. I ordered two 10-Piece Nuggets. I got 10 pieces in one and 9 pieces in the other. Had the food tasted better, I might have called that to their attention. Then they expect a TIP when you sign the credit card receipt BEFORE you even get your food. The MINIMUM TIP AMOUNT they suggested for me was $5 and change and it went up from there. Basically, the owners are trying to get the customers to pay their employees' wages so they can continue to pay them minimum wage (for bad food, bad service, and a bad atmosphere). I don't think so....... One would think they would try harder given how new this facility is. Don't waste your time or money on this place. I seriously doubt this place will last. read more

Was so excited for my first and probably last visit. The chicken was flavorful and juicy and the fries were cooked crispy the way I like them. Coworkers cheesy fries weren't that cheesy. Service was friendly. The place opens at 1100 and we arrived at 1115. There were no clean tables and we resorted to picking the cleanest. The floors were dirty with food and trash, the door windows were smudged like they've never been cleaned. Usually base the cleanliness of a restaurant by their restrooms. Being the state of the dining room it terrified me to even chance going in. Hopefully they get it together at this location. Maybe another time but unlikely. read more

The bun, pickles, and the fries were the highlight unfortunately. The tenders are big, but everything is way too salty. I really like to get the hottest option available and the reaper is no joke. I finished a reaper slider and tender and decided to try something a bit less aggressive. I ordered the hot on my second trip and even it had a really nice amount of heat. I could taste the food better because my face wasn't burning off but all I tasted was salt. Unfortunately my second time will be my last. And be warned... the reaper is legit! read more

Waited 30 minutes for one chicken strip and kale salad went to ask for a refund and the manager walked in the back got it and handed it to me asked for some Dave's sauce to go on. It didn't get that two young girls that were processing orders from the kitchen, were playing with their fingernails, talking to each other, not paying attention. I will go somewhere else where the service is better I realize it's a new restaurant and maybe the manager is not able to train the employees but to wait for 30 minutes there's too many restaurants in town that would wait on me and get my order done faster. This was my first time coming here and let me tell you, it's worth it! The customer service was impeccable and the food was delicious! I realize it just opened recently, but went for lunch at around noon on a Saturday and never received my dine in food. People were waiting over an hour for their food and just gave up. I gave it 45 minutes then gave up. Had great experiences at other Dave's in Palm Springs and Phoenix. I can't comment on the food since I never received it, but at other locations I've always enjoyed it. I will stay away and maybe try again in a month or two. read more

One simply cannot ask for a side of ranch because management goes berserk and says that it's not a fast food restaurant like my guy you have a drive-through, you have a dirty lobby ,I found two hairs in my food. Dave's Hot Chicken was created by best friends Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan, and Tommy and Gary Rubenyan. Dave, a chef trained in Thomas Keller's (French Laundry) organization set out to create the perfect Hot Chicken by searching, tasting, and frying. The four friends scrounged up $900 to put a tiny stand in an East Hollywood parking lot. The menu was simple, and chicken was the star. And what chicken it is! Sourced and prepared to be the juiciest and most tender imaginable with each piece topped with Dave's own mix of spices ranging from "Mild" to "The Reaper". Arman created Instagram buzz and the lines began to grow. Two nights later, Eater/LA showed up to see what the fuss was about. The next morning's headline read "East Hollywood's Late Night Chicken Stand Might Blow Your Mind". Almost instantly, the lines stretched around the block. A year later, the boys had the money to open a shop in a hip strip-mall with de_cor by local street artists, where the crowds continued to grow with wait-times of an hour and more. From there, the incredibly craveable "Hot and Spicy" varieties have created a cult following with rave reviews across the U.S. and Canada.

History

Established in 2017.

In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept -- take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw -- they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long. After 6 months of running the pop-up with long lines, the team took the plunge and opened their first physical store in January 2018 in a sleepy strip center in East Hollywood. Demand for their crave-able hot chicken exceeded all expectations and sales have grown every month since opening with consistently long lines throughout the day.

The seat area is small & quaint, more of a takeout restaurant than a place you'd hang out. But if you choose to there are a few tables and it's a calm atmosphere. As someone with a nut allergy finding a place that makes delicious chicken without using peanut oil is like finding a needle in a haystack. The service was quick and friendly and reasonably priced. Overall it was a great experience, if you're weary about how spicy the food may be a great intro is definitely the mild. It isn't hot at all but it gives you a little bit of how the spice mixes with the flavors. The medium is great as well, the hot definitely is not overwhelming but has a nice kick. Definitely would recommend going if you enjoy delicious food with a little heat. I would also like to mention the restaurant was very clean, and the staff is very polite. They are not greedy with the size of the tenders. they are nice and crispy on the outside and juicy in the center and cooked thoroughly, thank God. the fries are good and the atmosphere was inviting. I only waited 13mins for fresh food and fresh fries which amazed me. usually you go places and taste dirty oil or staleness from being under heating lamps too long but not here.
