This has been my go to bagel store for years however in the past year it has gone down hill with many incorrect orders . Today I ordered a dozen bagels and some cream cheese . The lox spread was sour and the bagels were not what I ordered despite specifying on the order what I wanted . Whomever answered the phone did not understand English enough to assist me so I just gave up . For a single turkey, ham with honey mustard onion bagel, un-toasted at $6.80 was hardness as a rock. Aija! It was enough to ensure one's loss of teeth and a guarantee visit to a periodontist. Stale is an understatement as the hardness was last WEEK's bagels. MEH. My bagel sandwich is not remotely fresh nor softness to bring fluffy ness. Staff appeared disgruntled robotics to serve patrons amid not the most friendly nor helpful. Bagels selections are rather limited to the standard: onion, plain, salt, egg, cinnamon, sesame, and raisin but nothing to further piqued my interest especially with a robotic disgruntled staff. According to their takeout menu "everything is done on premises" which implies the dough and baking as I presume. Air conditioning is weak albeit seating is plentiful. This bagel shop fends off a standard dark and dingy dilapidated diner setting. Thompson Square Bagels, locates on Avenue A, can absolutely craft and hone a far better substantial bagel. read more

This used to be my go-to bagel shop. I'd go 3-4 times a week. Today I was waiting to order and saw half of a bagel fall on the ground. It was there for probably 30 seconds before the employee (I think the owner) saw it, picked it up, and proceeded to put cream cheese on it and serve it to a customer. I regret not calling it out in the moment, but I was just in shock when it happened. This is disgusting and a health code violation. Do NOT ORDER FROM HERE. I created a yelp page just to review this place because of how ridiculous this delivery order was. Not only did they get the completely WRONG order for both egg sandwiches- but we spent 45 minutes calling them in an attempt to get our order redone. I'm officially disappointed in NYC bagels. Look, these are really good. Between Ess-a Bagel and here, it would be a tough call to choose. My problem is, and its the same problem I have with Ess-a, is the way they seed. I worked in a bagel store for 4 years on Long Island. It isn't difficult to seed an entire bagel. You water boil them, lay them out on the rack, cover with seeds, flip, cover the other side with seeds, then go to the oven. That way, the seeds stick while its wet and then cook into the bagel. Sure, when you flip them in the over, you lose some, but for the most part you keep both sides covered in seeds. At 2 of the top rated bagel places in NY, it's like you order 1/2 a seeded bagel and 1/2 plain. If I order an everything bagel, put cream cheese on both halves, and then eat 1 half at a time, I want two 1/2 everything bagels. Instead, I get one half everything and one half plain. It is so disappointing and frustrating. I expect better in NYC. Still, the bagels are tasty, so I'll go with 4 stars, but until I find a NYC bagel store that seeds correctly, I am withholding 5. Oh yea, and if you go here, you might see Emma Watson. The nova was lightly salty and had just the right texture. They're generous with the cream cheese, so be ready for a heavy stomach when you're through. Best bagel of the 4 bagel stores in a three block radius. Where they fall down is in how much they put on the bagels and service. Two or three times a year we have meetings and order bagels from them. Each time they are very skimpy on the lox and people mention it and some combine the lox from two bagels to make one good one. I understand managing your cost and portion control, but the price is not any cheaper then the competition. I've been going there personally for 12 years and ordering a buttered bagel not toasted. I get home open the bagel and it looks like they took a knife that was in butter and wiped it off on the bagel, almost nothing. So I've taken to explicitly asking for a "little extra butter" I'm not looking for an insane amount that you have to scrape off or see the cardiologist but more then just Trace evidence of butter. This worked with one employee an older man who seems not to work there anymore. I miss him, he got it right every time. The year and a half I have been unable to walk out of the store w a good buttered bagel. I tried calling and was told I'm sorry no problem let us know. Today I was in again and checked the bagel same thing no butter. I show the women and explain what I asked for and without looking she says you need to pay me more. I lost it not pretty, but for gods sake if it costs more tell me when I order it, when I pay I say I got a bagel w a little extra butter. This is not pandemic cost cutting since I have been buying there for 12 years. We came to David's on a Sunday around 2 PM - my normal Sunday breakfast time. It's a good thing we did, because I overheard people saying that the line had previously been out the door. We ordered an everything bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers and tomatoes, and a plain bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese. I expected the salmon/cream cheese combo to be the standout between the two, and it was for sure delicious, but the walnut raisin was AH-MAZING. The bagel and the cream cheese were both so good. To drink, I got a thai iced tea, and it was great as well. I would absolutely go out of my way to come back here, as I don't live in the neighborhood. This is a destination bagel spot. read more

This was one of my favorite breakfast spots near my job for years. Recently, a new person started working here. I'm not sure if she is a new hire or related to the owner or other member of the staff but the woman with the black hair and glasses is a horrible person. Always has a nasty attitude and won't put any of your food in a bag, no matter how much food you get. It always seems like your bothering her when she rings you up. I'm not asking for special treatment but at least be a decent person to your customers. I'm not the only person at my job that has complained about this same person, either. I've been meaning to try one of the bagel joints down the street, and finally had the chance to go with a friend who was visiting for the weekend. On first impression, the interior of David's Bagels looked pretty dingy and rundown. Fortunately, the bagels and spreads themselves looked pretty fresh. I guess the upkeep of the store just isn't a huge priority. I really wanted a bagel breakfast sandwich with eggs/breakfast meat, but I didn't see those options. Now that I see Yelp photos though, I probably just didn't know how to order said bagel sandwich. Oh well. I ended up ordering a sesame bagel with lox spread and a medium coffee ($6.80 total). They are generous with the lox spread, which is delicious and not too fishy (ie. I could eat it in class without stinking up the classroom). I didn't get my bagel toasted because it cost an additional 10 cents and I didn't really care for it after seeing how they completely burned a croissant for the order ahead of me. Every single time I'm admitted into the hospital I get my bagels from here. By the far the biggest, best tasting and thickest bagels I've ever had. I usually go for a grilled cheese bagel or a bacon egg and cheese bagel. These bad boys barely fit in your mouth, that's how big they are.
