They don't have that weird, sweet but not fully cooked so also sour taste that many mass produced bagels have (see: Liberty). They really taste like an old school Jewish bagel, and I should know, as I am quickly becoming an old-school Jew-ish lady. This was a decent bagel. The bagels themselves are a bit small and not as fluffy or crispy as I prefer but it tasted good and had a nice bite despite this. The cream cheese was pretty good and the drip coffee was really delicious. The big downside is the prices. This bagel I made ended up being around 10 dollars which is a bit insane for it having no protein on it. I wouldn't be making this point if the bagels were bigger but they are pretty small. Probably will be back but not a new favorite spot of mine. Definitely worth trying. read more

These are some GOOD bagels. This place has some outdoor tables, but I hurried inside as snow was coming down. Cute menu and a giant pickle jar let me know this would be a vibe. I was not disappointed. Every bagel I had was really really chewy and fresh. My only critique is they are really salty, so prepare yourself. Really good cinnamon raisin bagels. I think there are other locations of this store around Manhattan which I think I have been to and have said the same thing about the bagels. They are nothing special and a bit hard even when not toasted. The scallion cream cheese tasted a bit odd to me. The space here seemed fine there are alot of different choices of cream cheeses to choose from and bagels. The bagel baskets seemed pretty empty when I went. And they had to restock the chip basket too as that was pretty bare too. I won't be running back here that is for sure. read more

There was about 1/4 inch of whitefish and what was there was all dressing - watery, hard to discern there was any fish in it. The tomato was as white as the "fish" and hard. I ordered two bagels--whole wheat and poppy. They were puffed up and costumed as if bagels, but they were just over priced stale bloated rolls. My co worker swears by this place, however, as a native NYer, I can't say I love the bagels. They're chewy and kind of hurt my mouth by the time I was finished. The cream cheese had a weird taste. Customer service is actually great but I've been twice and each time my order was wrong. The first time I ordered two bagels: one toasted with cream cheese and the other toasted with bacon, egg white and cheese. I received 1 bagel with cream cheese and an egg white. I opened it because I only felt one bagel and saw the order was extremely messed dip. Immediately the supervisor offered a refund, not to remake it but a refund. The second time I went (because I just wanted to see the hype so bad) I ordered a Bacon, egg white and cheese on a plain toasted bagel. Because I was in a rush I just grabbed it and left. I tell you guys no lie I got a bagel with egg whites. Honestly, I don't even think they have cheese or bacon in the back with how they refuse to get my order right. So-so at best. Grabsteins - a small chain of bagel stores - recently opened an outpost on Broadway just north of Houston St. I felt obliged to give it a try, and so placed my usual bagel order -- a poppy seed bagel with scallion cream cheese. Short version - I now get why the relatively nearby Brooklyn Bagel outpost can get away with charging what they do: their bagels and their cream cheese is simply much better. My bagel from Grabsteins wasn't awful, but it wasn't particularly good; it didn't have the right texture (the right contrast between the crust and the inside), and really only a few sad poppy seeds hanging on for dear life. And the scallion cream cheese was a real disappointment - hardly any scallions (unlike Brooklyn Bagel's scallion cream cheese, with is so rich with scallions that my wife once remarked, "perhaps you'd like some cream cheese with your scallions?"). More of a 2.5 than a 2-star, but I won't be back. You're better off making your way to 8th St. and getting your bagel fix at Brooklyn Bagels - they make a hell of a bagel and cream cheese. read more

Had a great Lox bagel from here today along with a cold brew. Both were great, the bagel had a nice chew to it which was perfect because sometime the NY bagels with the particularly hard exterior makes the cream cheese explode from the bagel.
