What a gem! They have homie pastas and pizzas that are delicious and please the whole family. Perhaps they are not the best I've ever had but they are served with obvious care and attention, which counts for more. The owners and employees all patiently checked in on my family of 4 at multiple points of the meal to make sure we were comfortable. (We have two toddlers - need I say more?) I also overheard a nearby customer lament the news of their sausages being sold out. Moments later, the owners offered to make more on the spot because it was a quieter night, promising that at the very least the sausages could be ready for them to take them home to enjoy. That is awesome service. But IMHO the true star of the show is their gelato. For the first encounter with DiFazio, we had actually dined at a nearby restaurant and needed a sweet ending. Chatting up the locals quickly pointed us to DiFazio. Skeptical, we brought home a pint of pistachio... Plain container. Simple Label. Hmm... but then bang! And wow! Tasting it ignited memories of wandering the streets of Bologna, Italy on a hot summer day. So the second time around, I made sure to compliment the owner on his impeccable touch. He quickly divulged that the ingredients were indeed imported from Bologna!! And that even their machine is manufactured there!! Hello! Who knew I could drive from NYC to Troy to get such an authentic Italian experience. A warning in advance: this is not the place for an efficient meal. There's a lot of hype here. Will have to return and try some other pizzas, but I tried three on this visit: cheese, clam, and meat lovers. So I'm going out of order and this is unfair, but when I think of clam pizza, I'm immediately thinking New Haven. If you've never been to Sally's or Pepe's, you might think this is a 10. It's not. If you don't believe me, make the drive. I know I would for their clam pie. Not sure if drive to Troy for DeFazio's. Meat pie. Too meaty. Sorry. That's a thing. Cheese pie was the best. Solid. So maybe it's a matter I'd KISS? Keep it simple stupid? I will go back and try some other pies. Happy to eat crow and revise my rating, but others have said what I'm saying. We stopped here for lunch on our way to Montreal . Wednesday afternoon and the wait was on hour for a pie . We waited because we wanted to try it out and it was well worth the wait . Ordered a large cheese pie half prosciutto and was DELICIOUS!!!! Only cost $17 which where I come from is cheap . The pizza sauce was so tasty and dough was just right . The crust was great which I never it lol .Surprised they didn't jack up the price after bar stool have them a good review . It's been over three years since I've written about De Fazio's Pizza, even though I've brought it home on several occasions since then. But did you know that De Fazio A Imports, located next door to the pizzeria, is available after the Imports store closes, to be used for private parties? We had twelve people, although I think we were set up for sixteen. It was a BYOB vegetarian pizza party. We tried four different pizza doughs with various toppings. If my memory serves me, we had a Brown's Brewing Brown Ale crust, an organic whole wheat dough, a spicy red pepper crust, and an organic multi-grain dough. All were excellent. I have to say "if my memory serves me," because we were sharing a large variety of beers and ciders that everyone brought to share. My contributions were two Cellar Reserve beers from the Grand Teton Brewing company in Idaho - a 2008 20th Anniversary Bitch Creek Double ESB Ale (7.5% abv) and a 2009 Reinheitagebot Malt Barley Sheep Eater Scotch Ale (7.5% abv). Both were bottle conditioned and went so well with all four pizzas. We actually started with De Fazio's Greek Salad - feta cheese, field greens, just a small amount of iceberg lettuce, red onions, red roasted peppers, olives, plum tomatoes, and oil & vinegar. It was delicious with garlic bread from Prinzo's bakery. The different toppings we tried on our pizza were an Eggplant Florentine; a Puttanesca with artichokes, fresh mushrooms, calamati olives, capers & mozzarella; a mushroom and artichoke; and the fourth I don't recall its name other than it had sliced tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. We finished off with several different flavors of Gelato and mini cannoli, both of which are made on the premises. The cherries in the gelato are imported from Italy, and the vanilla gelato is topped with olive oil and sea salt. What a fantastic finish! read more

Easily the best pizza I've had - in my opinion it's better than the legendary places like Grimaldi's and Joe's. The aesthetic of DeFazio's is unassuming, but the pizza is outstanding! Although we were a little disappointed that they ran out of sausage, the cheese, pepperoni, and black olive pizzas and antipasto salad were incredible. There were several people in line waiting to pick up their pizzas on a Monday afternoon, which was surprising to me being from out of town, but tasting the pizza left no doubt in my mind as to why. I was in Troy last week and, with fond memories of our Yelp event here, ordered a small pizza Margherita. Very good, but what shocked me were the desserts I spied in the case when getting my soda. Wow!!! The guy at the register was a great salesman, but it was no con. "Italian Wedding Cake," was an orange yellow golden delight soaked with just the right combination of different liquors. Mmmmm! And the pumpkin cheesecake was equally amazing in it's category. Guess I just wasn't expecting it. Definitely go check out his review because he's spot on although I'd lean more towards his Semi-Changed higher score on the cheese pizza. The hangover cake was just as good as he said. Me and the fam devoured a slice of it with the quickness. BUT for me the real Star was The Buffaque Chicken Pizza, I have found my all time Favorite chicken pizza. Oh DeFazio's. I hate that I love you. When you are on you are on FIRE. But when you are off, man do you miss the mark. I have had some of the most amazing pizzas of my life here, the crust is perfect and the balance of flavors are absolutely unparalleled. And if you get that experience (which I hope you do) it is some of the best pizza you'll be able to find. HOWEVER there have been times where I ordered ahead for delivery (which unfortunately you have to do because they are so busy), and it's not here on time or even an hour later. I tried to call the restaurant LITERALLY 188 times and it was busy...EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. By the time the pizza got here it was unevenly cooked and partially burnt. In my experience this place has been very hit or miss lately, so while I would love to put this on my top picks list, because of the varying inconsistencies it's just mid tier for me. But I won't lie, I'll probably keep ordering from here in hopes that I can get that perfect pizza once more. read more

Found this place not long before closing last week looking for something new. Read the reviews and am glad I did because this is a real gem that has somehow been under the radar in Troy for generations! There are two shopfronts adjacent to each other. One is for the deli/store, and the other is for the pizzeria. The pizzeria is staffed by a rabble of friendly and talkative young men who engage all of their customers and come check on them to make sure everything is to their liking. The owner also makes his rounds asking for feedback, and seemed very receptive to the suggestion of adding a couple of ingredients to their tomato sauce! lol. Pizza was quite surprisingly good. Crust was not soggy, held firm and crispy almost until the final slice! The owner with great pride declared that it was made from his grandmother's bread recipe. He is definitely onto something with that! Sausage made on premises seems to be their calling card. Quite delicious with lots of spices and not overcooked. The flavor is a little subtle however, so don't go crazy with the toppings or else you may miss out, and that would be a shame. This place is BYOB, so prepare appropriately. Wine and beer are ok when brought from home. This is it, best pizza in Troy. read more

I know people don't usually update a review with the same review.... but this is going to function to show just how amazingly consistent DeFazio's is. We hadn't had DeFazio's since before COVID restrictions, and to say we were excited was an understatement. We decided to order 2 pies to go-- a "plain" cheese and a Fra Diavolo (my bf's friend raved about it, and since we were dining with him, we decided to go for it). The pickup was awesome-- I was honestly pleasantly surprised at how well they handled the "hand off" while keeping 6 feet of distance. There is a large table where they can put your order down while you pay, a tip jar, a pump of hand sanitizer (yay), and (kind of ingeniously) the credit card scanner is close to the customer. It was a truly contactless experience, and within 2 minutes we had our order and were out the door. Also, shout out to those people working here-- it is a conservative estimate of 1000 degrees inside with all the pizza ovens going. Now for the pizza: we have never gotten takeout from DeFazio's before, so we had a warm pizza stone in the oven to heat it up when we got back-- turns out, that wasn't really needed because it crisped the crust too much. Oh well lesson learned. The pizza was as delicious as ever. Delicious sauce, perfect cheese, and incredibly flavorful crust (the second helping I had was unadulterated by our pizza stone, so it was as it should have been served: perfect). The Fra Diavolo was good, but unfortunately I was not blessed with the gene that can handle spice, so it was too spicy for me-- spicy cherry peppers, spicy sauce, and hot Italian sausage was amazing but because I couldn't handle the heat, I stuck with my cheese pie :) Can't wait to go back and get pickup again! read more

I've been to DeFazio's several times since writing my last review -- which was about having DeFazio's at the farmers' market. If you've only ever treated yourself to DeFazio's at the farmers' market, walk, drive, bike, or bus as fast as you can to Troy because DeFazio's is EVEN BETTER in its brick and mortar store. This isn't your "New York Style" thin crust, fold the pizza in half, order by the slice kind of pizzeria. If you're looking for that kind of pizza, get in the car and drive due South, because you're not going to find it at DeFazio's or elsewhere in the Cap Region (or at least not a great example of it). But DeFazio's is my favorite pizza joint in the area because it does a great job of making a different kind of pizza. The crust is charred on the bottom. Not burnt, charred. And it's thicker, but not doughy, not Chicago-style by any means. It's more bready, but soft and not dry. There are awesome air bubble pockets throughout, and it...well, it's just really good! You see, describing this pizza, to me, is as difficult as describing the taste of chocolate to someone who has never eaten it before. You can tell them chocolate is creamy, rich, dark, luxurious, but are those adjectives really sufficient to convey its taste and the experience? If you're going to DeFazio's for the first time, hold off on the toppings. You test a great (or crummy) pizza place by seeing how they fare at the basics -- without sauces or toppings to hide behind. And DeFazio's makes a fantastic cheese pizza. In fact, when I've been in larger groups and ordered many types of pies, the plain cheese is the first to go. The white crust is my favorite, but closely followed by the Browns Brewing Co beer crust (which they're frequently sold out of). I have yet to try the wheat or red pepper crusts...more reasons to go back. The buffalo chicken pizza is also a star, and tied for first with the plain cheese. The heat is tolerable for all but the most sensitive of eaters. Order it on your second visit. A great thing about DeFazio's is that it isn't at all fancy, no frills, but if you call ahead, they'll reserve you a table, provide you with friendly table-side waitstaff, and let you bring your own wine (used to be no corkage fee, though we were charged one on a more recent visit). It makes for a really great evening with a group of friends. It gets pretty sweaty in there in the summer, despite the little A/C working its heart out above the door, but it's worth the discomfort for this awesome pizza. I have yet to try the pasta or dessert (hello, gelato!) as the pizza always calls my name. Looking forward to the next visit, DeFazio's. Keep up the great, delicious work! read more

Very poor customer service. Was given attitude because my order was wrong and not ready and I was asking questions about it (just putting in over after I paid for it even though I ordered at 11:30am for a 1:15pm pick up). The manager, Brandon, simply walked away while I was still speaking to him and the woman who took his place was also rude. If answering questions about your business makes you defensive and rude, you and your employees might be the problem, not the customer. I certainly don't believe Brandon is management material. Maybe the next generation just isn't fit to run the family business. read more

I love this place. Straight up, they have some of the tastiest pizza I've had in the capital region, and their price seems fair for what you get. First, you get that wonderfully flavorful wood-fired touch with each pizza, and boy does it make a big difference. Every time I order I stick with the tried and true margarita pie, with added pepperoni. It reminds me of the pizzas I used to eat in Italy when my brother and I backpacked through Napoli. Add to this the fact that they have gluten free and vegan options for my wife who has celiac and it allergic to dairy, this place is a home run just about every Friday at our house. DeFazio's has emerged head and shoulders as our favorite pizza in the Troy area. The pizza sauce is especially worth coming back for. My biggest dilemma here is that I love both their regular sausage and their spicier options, so I can't settle into a regular order. When you order delivery, be prepared to wait an hour. It's worth it, but you have to plan ahead more than with, say, Dominos. Oh, and check out the cake. read more

The best New York style Pizza I have eat so far, trust me take it from a true New Yorker. I'm originally from New York City, but due to traveling for work I have moved around quite a bit. We recently moved to Troy and we tried for the very first time to Defazio's Pizzeria, it instantly reminded us of our childhood in queens and Brooklyn. Due to our upbringing, both of us had our shares of New York style pizza in the corner pizzerias growing up. However when you take a bite of Defazio's plain cheese pizza which instantly melts in your mouth with all its cheesy goodness, there is nothing like that experience. Also, my absolute favorite scones that I have ever tasted is in Defazio's pizzeria. The scones are very very dangerous. Please eat with caution!!!
