A couple of years ago during a snow storm I ordered a pizza for delivery and was let down. But after re-reading all the reviews I decided I should really give them another shot and needed to actually eat there. I like a variety of different pizza so I wasn't blown away like everyone else but I will say they do in fact make a great pizza. I ordered a 12" buffalo chicken and ate about 3/4 of it myself. The dough is very flavorful. The only negatives are the lack of tables and the wait time. They were telling people about an hour for a pick up on a Fri. night. That is too long for me to wait no matter how good it is. The owner was there watching over everything and was very friendly to all the customers. My parents have owned an Italian restaurant and pizzeria for over 30 years now. I grew up with in in my blood-literally and figuratively haha! Therefore, coming to live here and just not finding anywhere for epic homemade crust pizza like my dad's was disappointing. Finally, after many suggestions, I went to DeFazio's with a friend who too wanted to try it. We split a small pizza and a pasta. Both were amazing! One of the top meals I have ever had anywhere, let alone around here! The pasta reminded of pasta I had when I lived in Italy for a few months. The pizza was the perfect wood fire too! I would also suggest their homemade gelato, it was great. And the price? You CANNOT beat it. Knowing what goes into pricing of food at a restaurant I will tell you since they make it all from scratch, this place is a steal! They could charge MUCH more and justifiably so. Ordered many times from here in the last 4 months & it has consistently been good food & good service. They are very busy and the pick up time is long but it is worth it. We always get a mix of pizza, calzones, etc. We especially love the vegan pizza, specifically the Florentine. Very nice to have the option for the vegan members of the family. read more

If DeFazio's pizza wasn't so freaking good (in a barren pizza wasteland), I'd never go back. Doesn't take credit cards. Doesn't deliver. Almost 30 minutes from home. Yet I've gone to pick up a pizza with cash and drive it back to my place three times in the six weeks since I tried it. FINALLY! Good pizza in the Capital Region! I am totally perplexed regarding the rave reviews DeFazio's has received. I read another reviewers yelp previously expressing the same sentiments I feel. Perhaps, it is the power of suggestion making reviewers agree in unison? I truly feel the reason people are so enamored of this establishment is the "gluten free" menu. Gluten free pizza is akin to chocolate free chocolate IMHO. The pizza was truly nothing like I expected according to these "best pizza in my life " reviews?? The time frame was as promised, an hour. The pizza, a small buffalo pizza, cost $20 and it was the smallest pizza I have ever received! It was dry, slightly under cooked, and not even close to an authentic NYC pie people claim this to be. When I eat a pie, it needs to be guilt free!! A good pie is a gift from the gods. If I wanted a healthy, bland pizza, I would opt for whole foods or Trader Joe's. I truly feel not many establishments will ever be able to replicate the unique consistency and flavor that you can get in a NYC pie,or even a great upstate NY version. Perhaps it is the water, I do not know. I am always willing to give establishments a second chance... but for now, I feel I truly and fairly judged DeFazio's. This pizza was average at best. I didn't want to cook last night, plus all we had were eggs and toast, which just sounded soooo boring. So I ordered takeout from DeFazio's: large pie with half cheese half sausage and onion and a Greek salad. I don't know if it's the fact that I didn't have to cook or not, but this meal was so incredibly satisfying! They use the really crumbly sausage on the pizza, which was cooked perfectly overall, and they use the supremely tasty multi-color grape tomatoes in the salad. Order just a basic cheese pizza and it was absolutely delicious! The cheese was hot and gooey, and the crust is the best. Truth be told, every pizza we've gotten from here has been fantastic. I ordered a small Fradiavlo pizza and a small side salad with no dressing. First the salad had dressing on it so it was soggy by the time I ate it. The pizza was tasty but SO SALTY. It was so salty I could only eat one slice. I'm so sick of restaurants pouring salt into their food. Why, DeFazio's?? You have a great reputation for excellent food, why is all that salt necessary? I dont know what more I can say taht has not been said. This is great pizza. They make a bunch of different doughs but I like the regular just fine. The pizza is best eaten on premise while hot. The ingredients are high quality and the cooking time is well communicated. There is not much space inside and they are supposed to move to a bigger place. Recently started making gelato and their pistachio is very nice. Rocco makes a great pint as well as slice. It is a family owned place and if you want great pizza in the area this is the place. First timer. Felt like I walked into a time warp & glad I did. It's obvious this place does alot of take-out given how small their seating area is. I especially appreciated one of the guys making fresh pasta in the corner behind the front door. Had a great conversation on the history of his old electric pasta machine (bought at a food show in Boston 30 odd years ago) & the brass dies used to make them. We ordered a pie to eat in. I was pleasantly surprised when the server brought out real plates & silverware. Then came the pie. Wow. Wood fired to perfection with a crispy bottom. Sauce & fixings were terrific. They make their own sausage (not to be missed). We finished it & I headed next door to the small store they run with Rocco at the helm. I pretty much bought the place out: fresh pasta, hot & sweet homemade sausage, homemade bolognese sauce, spinach riccotta balls. All was fresh & delicious. The folks could not have been nicer.
