Originally was hoping to get reservations at a different fine dining restaurant (as were at least one other party sitting at a table nearby), but we ended up at Delaney's Grill on New Year's Eve... and I'm genuinely glad we did! I made reservations for 8PM on NYE same day using the Open Table feature, which I love. We were running a bit late, so I called and asked them to bump it to 8:15PM, which they did, no problem. Parking: We didn't realize they have "free" valet (obviously, you want to tip), so we ended up parking all the way down the hill. In 18 degree weather, this is a bad idea. Use the valet. Ambiance: Large, stately mansion-esque restaurant with an adjacent hotel. The Delaney was nicely decorated and bustling with lots of employees and guests. The Mick downstairs was quite busy at 8PM when we arrived. Most of the Delaney's seating is in small, almost "private" rooms; the one in which we were seated upstairs, looked to be an event room which they had converted to seating for NYE. There was absolutely NO decoration in the entire room, and the tables were awkwardly shoved against the walls. You could hear everyone's conversation, but at least they shut the doors to the stairwell to keep out some of the outside noise. Service: Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and prompt, but we had a few issues. My fiancé ordered a stout and received some kind of ginger beer. She never caught the mistake, but we kept the beer because it was pretty tasty anyway. And honestly, no offense, but I don't get it: why do fancy restaurants allow their servers to come in looking disheveled and unprofessional? Green glitter eyeliner and a claw clip does not a professional appearance make. Overall, though, she was wonderfully sweet and a great server. Food: We started out with the Asparagus Fries ($8) with horseradish dipping sauce. Could have used some salt straight out of the fryer and there was a lingering texture of sand or something odd, but again, tasty so we ate it. We also had ordered two drinks, he, a beer, and me, a glass of pinot noir. Each were $8+. For our meal, he ordered the Shrimp Scampi and I ordered the Mt Tom steak medium rare (comes with sautéed mushrooms and onions in a glaze, $26). Each entrée is served with a complimentary popover and Chop Chop salad. I'd never had this type of popover and honestly, I wouldn't eat it again. It's very eggy, similar to a non-sweet French toast. The Chop Chop salad was surprisingly good; soaked in dressing, but the flavor of it didn't overwhelm the taste of the veggies. His scampi looked unimpressive (what scampi doesn't?) and he said "Olive Garden would have done a better job" with the pasta. OUCH. But the shrimp were "really good." My steak *almost* couldn't have been better. It was perfectly cooked medium rare, with a slight charry-ness from the grill. The fat was nicely rendered but there were little bits of gristle along the edge that could have been trimmed. The mashed potatoes were wonderful, too, but the steamed veggies left something to be desired. Namely, seasoning. I wish we would have saved room for dessert-- maybe at another visit! Our total came to just over $85, about what I was expecting for a nice dinner. 4 stars for an awesome steak and dinner service. I can only recommend (to myself and others): go hungry, sit in a "nice" section of the restaurant, skip the apps, order a steak, and get dessert. read more

Came to The Mick to try their "burger nite" mid week. The service was in attentive and all looked exhausted. Everyone in the entire restaurant felt like an out of towner, overdressed, pretentious, and demanding and unhappy. I've been here for brunch and that same "wedding banquet hall" feeling is in The Mick too. The food was forgettable and I felt as if I was being treated like a forgettable hotel guest. I took my wife here for dinner for her birthday. We had a great dinner, the food was fabulous, and the service even better! My wife had the short ribs which were cooked perfectly, and I had the Chilean Sea Bass, which was absolutely perfect! The Sea bass was flaky, and very tasty. The Chop Chop salad looked like it was drenched in A heavy ranch salad, however it did not taste very heavy, and was very yummy. I have never done something like this in my life, but I wanted to share our experience here last night. First of all, the service in this bar was deplorable. Out of the seemingly 5 waitresses on, only one had all of the tables and was so drastically behind that we didn't get our full drink order (for only two people) for 20 minutes. Another 20 minutes later she returned to take our dinner order; stopping to blame the bartender's poor skills as the reason she was so far behind. We were offered a complementary soup for our troubles, which was a nice gesture, but did not make up for the fact that we were then brought pop-overs instead of the anticipated garlic bread. Our meals were awful. I have never before had an alfredo sauce that didn't have cheese in it and the noodles were with out question reheated. The Bolognese, a Micks favorite, was bland and more like a ragu. I noticed that when were leaving the people who were seated before us were just getting the opportunity to order. It makes me feel like such a "snitch" to report in such a negative way, but in this economy when I spend $75 on a dinner for two and wish we'd ordered in instead, that is an experience I'd like to spare others. read more

I wish I would have checked Yelp first! My wife wanted to have a nice pre-Mother's day brunch because she has to work the holiday so she suggested this. I give it one star for the atmosphere but that's all that was good. For a family of 4 we spent $100 and the value was not there. The quality and taste of the food was below average. I expected fresh bread, pastries and cheeses and such. Everything seemed store bought. The meat at the carving stations were bland and cheap cuts of meat. Not a lot of fruit. Heavy greasy choices for brunch (BBQ Ribs??). Breakfast sausage was bland and fatty. Bacon was bland and chewy. This was the last time our family will go. We had a fabulous dinner tonight at Delaney's Grill. Peter, the owner made a special trip to our table when we asked about the history of the house and the area. He was very gracious and answered all of our questions. Natasha provided us with great service. Last- but certainly not the least- the steaks were amazing! I really wanted to like this place but there were serious issues. The menu is fantastic and the garlic bread was one of the best I've had in recent memory but sadly the dishes we ordered just didn't deliver. Went on a Tuesday for burger night. Fiancé for Gorgonzola burger that she enjoyed but it was only slightly warm with cool fries, which if they were hot I think would have tasted fantastic. My burger came on rye with Corned beef and sauerkraut on it that just screamed for Russian dressing. Corned beef was half good half fatty/grizzly. My burger was also cold and closer to medium rare than medium; good thing I'm ok with that but if I wasn't in a bit of a rush I would have probably sent it back. One big big issue - both of us got tomatoes with the core in the middle ! That drives me nuts...I don't understand how a place can make that mistake twice unless they have a cook who wasn't looking or didn't care ? Such a turn off. I'll give this place another shot on account of the ambiance and the service but the food needs to shape up. read more

We recently had our annual Holyoke Firemen's Ball at the Delaney House and we could not be more satisfied in all aspects. Starting from the first meeting with our Event Planner Nicole Lucas. She did an amazing job making sure all details were attended too from day 1 until the last minute. Even following up days later. Everything was seamless.The food was very tasteful. From appetizers to our late night slider buffet. Not one complaint from 200 guests, which makes my job very easy. this place is very overated, the place is closed mon. and tuesdays not even the bar is open, during the day the day staff was exceptional after hrs. and on week-ends very poor , even the room service wasnt available to do sheets was almost after 4pm when they came knocking at our door, it was not handicap freidnly at all, the shower is so narrow and towels like cardboard, the handicap parking wasnt availablwe in front on the week-end becasue of new line painting , well that wasnt getting done till wed. when everything was back in buisness , poor planning on that part...i would not use this place again read more

I came here for a bridal shower on Saturday, and what a lovely job they did! We were in the smaller room to the left of the entrance, and the hostess pleasantly directed us to where we were supposed to go. The waitress was very attentive and friendly, and I don't think my mimosa glass was ever left empty for longer than a minute! The brunch they served was delicious and very filling. We were given an assortment of breakfast food that hit the spot! They started with a plate of pastries to be shared with the others at the table, then followed it up with a delicious fresh fruit parfait. The main course consisted of eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, and toast! All of us ladies were very satisfied with our meal, and I hope to return here in the near future to try their lunch/dinner food! read more

The food is always excellent but this particular time we dined it took ridiculously long to bring our food. Even after the server informed us that the food was being put out it still took 10+ minutes to come out. Hour after we ordered our food it came out. If the food wasn't prepared well it would've been a one star review. The saving grace was our server was nice and the drinks were great. He could've been more available considering how slow it was (Monday night, only one parking lot 3/4 full). Will not be coming back anytime soon, considering the meal is not cheap. Although I f ind myself less impressed by the brunch each time I go there, the dinner offerings in the Mick and the grill are pretty tasty. They are also doing these great nightly specials, Mondays are twin lobsters, there is a burger night, a pasta night, and prime rib. Something for everyone! read more

I attended a corporate dinner at Delaney's last October, and the experience was not good. The owner responded to my comments and asked that I give Delaney House another chance, stating that corporate events are a reflection of how much the corporation wants to spend; you do get what you pay for! I had dinner at Delaney House this past Friday (unknown to the owner), and my experience was excellent. It is only fair that I update my review of this local steakhouse. Yelp is a difficult medium because it does not allow for easily comparing apples to apples, and restaurants come in various categories. In the category of steakhouses owned by a single owner (not a chain) who serve unpretentious but standard continental fare, Delaney House did an excellent job this past Friday. It is not a an artistic, boutique restaurant like the Blue Heron, nor expensive polished chrome like the Capital Grille, but it did an excellent job at creating standard steak meals at a fair price. Desserts were also excellent. Ask for the Library if you want a quiet meal away from the Pub area. read more

This review is on the Easter take out meal for 6 people which my daughter purchased as a special holiday treat. She specifically inquired about the ham & was told it was a high quality spiral ham with ample serving. This was not the case, very salty sub standard with some sort of coating which was dry & tasteless. Most of the food, with the exception of the pasta salad which had a lg amt of dill chopped in, was over salted. The cubed potatoes cooked with peppers was soaked in oil. The chicken was covered with a heavy gravy mixture & peas/carrots were bland. Pancakes & waffles were fine, no cocktail sauce for shrimp. Basically, this was not a "stand out" Easter meal especially for the price charged. We had expected much better from an establishment such as the Delaney House. read more

Have never been to the Delaney House for a meeting before. Today was a first and I have to say the food was excellent. Hot creamy tomato bisque was a great way to start. A chopped salad with served family style with plenty of bacon was crunchy and not over dressed. I could have made my meal just the salad and the warm rolls. Buttery, warm and soft on the inside. I had tips and you barely needed a knife. So enjoyable. The dessert was so intriguing. A long plate with chocolate chip cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, little pecan pies, cannoli sand cream cheese balls with cinnamon. Yum. Can't go wrong if you want a satisfying meal that you will remember. read more

When you go to The Mick at Delaney House on a Tuesday night, you may be looking for something fairly simple...well, at least in theory. This was my goal when I first heard about their Tuesday burger night. On this evening, you are encouraged to try one of their burgers as part of a special they run through their dinner hours. I've tried a lot of burgers in my day. My experience has been if I order a burger medium rare, I'm lucky if it comes out beneath well done. Granted, I ordered a burger and not a T-bone, but I think it's always worth remembering the majority of places on the East Coast have consistently disappointed many of us when given this simplest of tasks. Obviously, there are many exceptions, don't mistake me for an elite...I'm just a realist....but I've been around the burger block a few times (not to sound like an indecent member of society, or a culinary snob; I hate those clowns). Yes, I've been made a burger to temp. Yes, I've enjoyed it very much. Yes, it's come with jalapenos and mushrooms and whatever....pepperoni or a fried egg. That's all fine and well. What is different, and what is appreciated when it comes to simple food (or comfort food, as many in the well traveled arts-food community would say) is doing it to a degree that makes you very sincerely appreciate it. Sure, enjoy a bowl of mac and cheese. Sure, enjoy a BBQ chicken breast. With fries? Why the heck not. I do it all the time. Dump some chili on there too. But are you really ever surprised by the quality? Do you order something for 5 or 6 dollars and expect it to make your palate succumb to its will like a school girl at a Justin Bieber concert? Have you ordered something this simple, to literally bite into what is supposed to be a simple sandwich that MANY... MANY...other places regard as just a clotted wad of lean beef...only to instead discover a first bite that stuns your senses. Have you ever bitten into a burger only to realize that your teeth just cut through something that makes you truly understand the meaning of "a hot knife through butter?" I'll be honest, this is the place that you'll think, "Wow, I'm actually really enjoying this burger." Then you'll think, "Woooow....I'm reaaaallly enjoying this burger." There are over a dozen...I think maybe 2 dozen...ways to indulge in a perfectly cooked to temp, widely modified, burger on a simple, unassuming Tuesday night. I've ordered 4 myself. One is a double-stuffed burger, which is two burgers combined with delicious ingredients stuffed inside (jalapenos and cream cheese for instance), one is the world renowned bacon double with cheddar (a delight when done right), one has taken the tone of a reserved but powerful Mt. Tom seasoning. Many don't know Mt. Tom...In fact., you would only know Mt. Tom if you're from the area, or had taken an exit 17 route to get to the House. Back in the day, the skiing was pretty good. This spice, covering their burger, does more than justice for the appreciation our community has for our small but legendary mountain. The other burger had corned beef on it and it was served on grilled rye with swiss and dressing. Holy Jesus, yes it was amazing. You could put a kick to my groin on grilled rye and I'd enjoy it. You could spend all year long looking for a weakness in this menu, and ultimately I'm very happy to say whether I've been there to entertain a group of 2 or 14, the ordering selection has been diverse and NEVER poorly executed, from kitchen to the floor. I've tried many of my friends' burgers, from a Taco Burger to Turkey Burger to the Firehouse Burger to....well, you get the idea. Ultimately, just go there on whatever night. The service is fantastic, the food is fantastic, the beer selection is strong, and if I even needed to point out the classiness of this establishment, I'd just direct you to the website to see for yourself. This is as good as it gets in Western Mass. If you ever have a problem though, I'll tell you right now, whether its a tremor or an earthquake of something wrong, their management is right there on the ball to help you with anything. I had gone 2 minutes without a beer in front of me when a manager, Nick, came flying over to see if I wanted another. It seemed the same instant I nodded my head a beer appeared. The service standards of the restaurant are right up there with the food, but hey............I'm there for the burger. Check it out, you'll love it. And if you're looking for a server that's on point, ask for Caitlin. She's pretty cool. read more

I lived in the valley for 11 years and always heard this place was THE spot for fancy dinners. I finally had a chance to go last week for an office holiday party. While the service was excellent, the food was INEDIBLE. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Being a native Holyoker, I have visited the Delaney House as well as the Log Cabin on several occasions over the past 15 years, and every visit is as wonderful as the one before it! Service is always consistent, food is fantastic, and staff is beyond friendly and accomodating. If you can, request Barbara at The Delaney Grill...she's a keeper! I would highly recommend this establishment to any fellow Holyoker who hasn't experienced one of Holyoke's gems as well as to any out -of-town visiters. ps. Every visit there, Peter, the owner, is present and checking in with every restaurant patron.That's a rarity these days and for that alone, I rate The Delaney House 5 stars! read more

This review is of The Mick First impressions where that it was a little more upscale then we where lead to believe and we're not properly dressed in my opinion, but we walked in and were seated immediately. The tables were odd as they had a rubber coating on them? With a table cloth which I thought was interesting. And the seats were a little low. You almost sink into them when you sit. We ordered our drinks and the waitress couldn't have been more nice. Our food arrived out in good time and the salads where nice. Our kids ordered from the kids menu and both didn't eat anything but the French fries. Now my son's burger was amazing, as I tried it, but he's just picky. However, my daughter had chicken tenders and they were breaded with some very bland, panko maybe? No seasoning. She wasn't too thrilled. My steak was cooked well although I would have liked it a bit more rare. I didn't say anything at the time so don't take that as a bad thing, because I should have said something about that. The rest of the meal went well with dessert being wonderful. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and they had live music playing which was nice. I would definitely give Delaney's The Mick another go, just to try some other menu items and see what else they have that catches my eye. I wouldn't say I'm disappointed over all, I just expected a little more I guess. I gave them four stars for the friendly and attentive service and the meal which was overall good. A few small things kept it from being a 5 star but I'd definitely visit the Mick soon! read more

I recently took my family and guests from out of town to the Delaney house for a graduation celebration. We had a party of eight. There was a high school prom going on that same evening so needless to say the facility was busy. The staff was great, courteous and professional. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, particularly the sea bass and New York strip steak. Thanks for making our special dinner a great experience. read more

My Girlfriend and I have been fans of The Mick for a few years, and after receiving a gift card from my work we were finally able to try Delaney's Grill. I have heard the radio ads promoting the steak, ("marblingggg"), and we were excited to try it. The restaurant was very nice, and the wait staff was very friendly. With the candles and white table clothes it feels like fine dining. I ordered the filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes instead of the vegetables, and she went for the sliced sirloin. I loved that a popover, and salad is included with the entrees. When our steaks arrived mine still had the vegetables I had requested to be subbed out, but everything else looked good. My steak was ok, it was a lot tougher, and chewy than I expected. There were a few sections I just gave up on. She said her steak was ok, but had no flavor at all. Not what we were hoping for from a place that highlights it's steak in every ad. The garlic mashed potatoes were excellent, and my girlfriend enjoyed the vegetable medley. All in all, the atmosphere and the staff were great, but the food was disappointing for the price. On top of that, looking at the bill it turns out instead of subbing out the vegetables, I was charged for an additional side. We still have money left on the gift card, and really wish we could just use it at The Mick. read more

One star because I had to. 4 diners returned, food was disappointing again, and again another diner got sick but this time wound up in the hospital. This place used to be great, now it is simply resting on it's laurels of the past. Sad. Looks beautiful, but something is seriously wrong with this place. In Aug 2014 my friend ate here and got sick (I didn't know before I went) In Sep 2014 I went with 3 others and 1 person got mildly sick and nobody really liked their food much. In Nov 2014 14 people got salmonella poisoning -- that was in the news In Jan 2015 me and my 3 companions went back - stupid I know, but they sent us gift certificates to make up for the last meal, and after their outbreak that was in the news I figured they had to have fixed their problems. Nope, nobody cared much for their food and I wound up in the hospital. Never again. read more

The chopped salad was good. Mussels were mediocre. Oyster description was not at all correct. Ribeye was ok, nothing special. Flavor was taken over by veg/sauce. Seabass was pretty good. Server had no personality very robotic. Overall ok experience. I won't be going back any time soon. read more

WORST SERVICE EVER EXPERIENCED!!!! My son and I are visiting UMass and decided to eat at Delaney grill tonight since it's attached to the hotel we're staying at. We waited way over an hour for our food....once it came it was over cooked, dry and flavorless. We were offered no explanation, no apology, nor any customer service gesture as would have been appropriate given the wait!!! I have never had such a horrible experience and would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone!! Very bad start to our trip!! read more

We were invited to the Delaney House in late Nov. for a tasting for our daughters wedding which will be held next Oct. at the Log Cabin. Our waitress was Barbara who was very helpful with selections and suggestions on what to try. There were five of us "tasters" who attended and we tried prime rib, chicken marsala, filet, scrod etc. When we received our meals before our daughter who ordered the scrod our meals tasted good but could of been warmer.
