Sad that what used to be a great sub shop for a person from the Phila area is now a below average sub shop. Food was bad, service was bad, shop is dirty. The Delaware Subs on Mesa Dr. is the best! The guys who work at this location totally rock it out! They are very cool - friendly and always on their game! Somewhere between Subway and Jersey Mike's in terms of quality. Prices are outrageous 12-14$ for a footling?!? I had a turkey sub and the meat quality was below that of Boarshead. And not really a place to sit down and hangout. For a similar price, I prefer Bidermanns, better quality, more food and a better vibe. read more

After all the ups and downs this store has had over the years, I'm happy to say their cheesesteaks and Italian subs are still the best available. Those are two of my favorite sandwiches anywhere and I've tried them in many different places in and outside Austin. Delaware is still this best. I like subs and whats not to like, I mean, its a giant sandwich filled to the brim with all sorts of goodness. While this location has great service and no problems with its staff....the subs aren't all that great. Now this is just my opinion and as a hard core lover of Thundercloud my judgement may be somewhat biased. The subs and toppings they offer are unique and much different than other sub shops in town. The Philly Cheesesteak was awesome and just what I needed on a cold rainy night. The service was also excellent - the guy working behind the counter was super sweet and friendly. It took a little bit longer to get my sandwich than, say, a Thundercloud sub, but the quality was much better and worth the wait. This is a great little place to get big sandwiches. I always go for a philly with peppers, onions, and hot pepper sauce; very tasty. Its usually just a couple stoners running the kitchen, and one out front, but they always get the job done without a buncha sunshine and unicorns coming outta their butts. Usually busy over lunch with the local crowd, and the prices are a little higher than your average chain sub shop, but its worth it... especially if you get extra peppers. read more

Considering that my office is directly across the street and that I eat their lunch specials at least 3 times a week, I feel qualified to give a shout out. The lady at the counter knows just how I like my sammys and begins punching in the order the second I walk in. Lunch specials every week day, and hard to beat a huge sub, chips and a drink for about $6. Well worth it. Plus, they deliver. Now I know I said I'm right across the street, but there is a certain satisfaction in that moment the kid walks in the door that we share a look in which I say "yeah, you're my bitch". I went here with the hubs last Saturday afternoon. We arrived around 12:15. There were maybe two people in there and one worker. ONE WORKER. On a Saturday. I felt so bad for him. And it's not like at Subway, where one person could probably work the whole line, taking the order, making the sandwich and duck walking down to the cash register. This setup is not conducive to one person working here. The poor guy would ring up a sandwich, then literally run across the little hall area to make the sub, then run back to the other side to ring up another sub. What kind of manager has one person working on a Saturday? When he rung us up, my receipt said 12:32pm. More people piled in not long after we took our seats to wait for our two sandwiches. They were older single men coming in. After about 15 minutes, the old men got impatient and went up to the cooking area to bug the kid on how long the sandwiches would take to make. He skipped our order and made their sandwiches instead which irked me a bit. I understand that you're the only one here, but get some soup-nazi balls and tell them to wait in line like the rest of us. After the impatient men left, the worker saw us sitting there patiently and told us ours would be up soon. At 1:15 we got our sandwiches. Almost a freaking hour from the time we walked in to the time the sandwiches were in our hand??!?! Incredible. The sandwiches themselves were pretty good, the bread was a bit chewy but the meat was a lot fresher and deli-quality than subway, but there is NO WAY in hell I'm going to come back until they add more than one person in the entire establishment to work on a Saturday afternoon. Doing stupid, idiotic things like this will get you shut down. There were at least two people who came in, saw what was going on, and just left. Good job manager, whoever you are. Your establishment will fail for sure. Just give it a little more time. read more

Overall the food was good and I liked that on SAT the cheesesteak breakfast subs are $1.99 each. I bought two of them and just ate the sandwich and it was filling in itself. The staff was nice and I'm glad I stopped in. read more

Sanwiches were passable good. The peppers they used were soaked in vinegar, tho, and detracted a lot. The 20 min wait for two small cheese steaks was unacceptable. This place SUCKS!!!! I went for lunch a few weeks ago, stood in line, sat down and waited for about 20 minutes to get my small cheesesteak. While you're waiting, you get innundated with ridiculous advertisements FOR Delaware Sub Shop on a small flat screen TV. Now, why in the world would I want to watch advertisements about the place i'm currently eating at!?! Stupid! Oh, and they have a deli meat counter...what???? Who buys DELI MEAT on their lunch break or would make a special trip for deli meat??! What a joke... So FINALLY when I got my sandwich and began eating, I bit into a rock. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, there was a rock in my sandwhich that nearly cracked my tooth! When I proceeded to bring this to the attention of the morons working there, they just looked at me dumbfounded and offered me a free cookie...a free cookie? You've got to be kidding me, right? The people that work here are complete idiots, no personalities, and clearly don't make the customers a #1 priority. Conner (or Collin) and Angel are an asset to this location. They know great customer service. I stopped in unexpectedly (was getting gas at Valero) and I checked out their $1.99 breakfast Cheese steak (served all day.) It was a great value and tasted delicious. I also noticed their deli special $4.99 lb for any deli case meat (except prosciutto.) Another great value! I will definitely return to try more items. read more

Mmmm, Delaware. Gotta have those peppers, baby! I get both hot and sweet, taking any and every sandwich to the next level. The Italian and the Gourmet are great examples of Italian-style deli subs, stacked with plenty of deli meats and cheese, fresh veggies and, of course, those peppers. Daily specials include the Italian on Tuesday, cheesesteaks on Thursday and Italian sausage on Friday (Fridays only, in fact, and worth the wait). Glad they reclaimed their old location on 34th, so I can put it back in my regular lunch rotation. With subs this good, made from real deli meats sliced on premesis, and cheesesteaks grilled to order while you watch, why on earth would anyone set foot in a national sub(way)chain that uses pre-sliced lunch meat and sells "grilled" meat subs, yet has no grill? read more

Originally hailing from Delaware (you can make fun of me if you can be more creative than simply reciting the line from "Wayne's World"), I can honestly say that this place is truly authentic. Imagine my excitement when I moved here and found this joint. I didn't have the highest expectations--after all, what could Texans know about Delaware sandwiches, but they proved me wrong. For some reason, I've never had one of the Philly Cheesesteaks (I know, I know--you're thinking, WTF is wrong with me?), but I love the Italian hoagie and the Roast beef/cheese so much I can't ever get myself to order anything else. They use the authentic Amoroso's rolls (YUM!) but I've experienced one or two sammies where the rolls had been left out too long and were stale. I was contemplating taking off one star because of the horrid decor, or lack thereof, but that really has nothing to do with their food. Plus, I'm super nostalgic and they have Delaware memorabilia all over the place, including a picture of Hagley Museum (a place that I was dragged to twice a year every year for my entire grade school career). I have been an avid fan of Delaware since I have moved to Austin. I take my back east family there to enjoy their Philly cheese steaks, and they have given the cheese steaks their approval. Of course they do follow that up with "no way it can be better than South St in Philly, but it's damn good for Texas". I received a coupon for a free breakfast sandwich with a purchase of a drink, so I used it today. I didn't know what to expect... a steak sandwich with fried egg on a roll? Will it be good, or give me the shits and ruin my day? I threw caution to the wind because it was free, and I like the sandwiches from Delaware. The sandwich was on a 5 inches sub roll, and had a decent amount of the cheese steak sirloin and a fried egg. You can add cheese, onions and mushrooms for extra if you wanted. I was worried a little about the grease factor since it was seeping out of my wrapper, but once I got to the sandwich it wasn't to greasy. The sandwich has the beginnings of being a really good breakfast sandwich. It needed something a little extra, like cheese or onions. They have a few other breakfast sandwich choices for $1.99 that I would like to try. The coffee was pretty bland and weak, so I'll stay away from that next time. read more

I would not recommend to even my worst enemy to waste their hard earned money here. I used to be a regular customer of Delaware subs, and they used to be the best you could get in Austin! But the most important thing about that last sentence is that they "Used to be". I am extremely disappointed with what has happened to this place. First, almost every Delaware franchise in Austin shut down, and why you ask? Because they did not want to remodel the restaurant which would cost somewhere around 20,000 I've heard. So they shut down....and I thought they were done for good until one day I stumbled upon the Delaware on Mesa and I thought, No Way! Why yes I could go for a delicious sub right now!!! So here's where my immense disappointment came into play, first of all the inside of the establishment is just plain grungy...with nasty colors, why? I don't typically judge a place on the appearance but in this particular case I will because this is newly remodeled......hm. Second, the counter help was not a pleasant experience, very obnoxious girl behind the counter, who was not helpful. Half the sodas were out which is just unacceptable in a food establishment, 1...maybe...but 2 or 3, I don't think so. So I ordered my old favorite, the gourmet italian, which from what I remember was loaded, LOADED with delicious meats on a delicious roll. And here is what I got, A HOT DOG BUN, with 2 slices of salami, one slice of cheese, veggies on the inside (which is their signature way of making subs all the veggies are wrapped in the center) with NO black peppered ham...and to top it off one slice of BOLOGNA!! What the crap Delaware? Your slogan is "No Bologna Here" Remember that? The good old days when you rocked? I got nothing but bologna from the moment I stepped in the door...I promise you, I will never be back...I am too heartbroken by what has happened to this place. Whoever owns the establishment, which can't possibly be the original owner, I assume it's been sold out....please stop defacing Delaware. One of the best cheesesteaks around, at least as far as chain sub shops go. I like it with peppers and mayo, it ends up being just a little bit spicy, and the sandwiches are always really filling. Prices aren't bad either, they have a daily special (cheesesteak is Thursdays.) Shop is sort of small and they can get pretty busy so you might want to get it to go. read more

I used to live in the neighborhood years ago. There would be a line for lunch every time I was there. I stopped in last week and there was only one other person there. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak sub, that days special and a drink. There are no fountain drinks so I grabbed a bottle of warm RC cola out of the cooler. The sub showed up, not much chicken or peppers on the sub. Nothing like the subs they used to serve. Crossing this one off my list of must go to when in the northwest neighborhood. read more
