So....I totally expected this place to be all gimmicky with food that was just OK. I was so wrong. The building is very unobtrusive and almost looks like a warehouse. The inside is kind of dark and parts are well lit. We were seated upstairs - the staircase looked very "back of house" - they could replace the carpet - better carpet or wood would look nicer. We sat in a little corner that was SO dark we had to use our phones to see menus. The manager gave us a second fake candle light - which didn't help - but our waiter took it back to place on another table. ‍ The waiter was overly attentive and VERY slow at the same time. He asked if we wanted to order drinks and came back like two minutes later after we said we needed some time. We waited a LONG time for things like lemon for water, our check etc. The food was seasoned/prepared well and the cocktails were good! All of the dry ice and huge decorated platters food was presented on were really not necessary that stuff didn't make it "fun" at all. This was different! I wasn't quite sure how an upscale restaurant would name themselves with the adjective "fun" in it. However, the unique serving dishes explained it. Food was brought out on a variety of wooden trays with large artifacts overtowering the table. On most food boards were containers with hot ice steaming up for uniqueness. The presentation of the dishes were served on large boards with impressive artifacts, visually delightful. My plate, in particular, was exceptional--prepared and bursting with flavor. The attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients truly stood out. There was of course a few caveats. Our meals were brought out at different times leaving half of our table completing their dinner, while the other half sat there. Maybe they could synchronize the meals for a table of 10 so no one is sitting while others are eating. Reservations were a must and we were sat upstairs in an admittingly hot area, (they warned us at the entrance the air conditioner was not working properly) That was a no-no in 92-degree weather. And what is supposed to be a high-end restaurant. Last but not least, the one-check policy was a mess. A number of us wanted a receipt for our meal and they would not accommodate us. One meal was $73. For an individual order and they needed it as an expense-proof for their business. Nope! They wouldn't give one. One receipt for 10 people - not a good look! It took 40 minutes just to collate cash and credit card payments. Remember....the food was served sporadically so some had finished eating, while others had not. One lady added a $10 tip above the mandatory 20% attached to the bill by the restaurant and well she paid in cash with large bills. The waitress assumed she was left a tip of $18!! (That was the price of an appetizer) When the woman pointed out she left $10 above the mandatory 20% and would like the remaining $8 the waitress went back and forth out loud in front of everyone saying, "You want $8 back?" One last thing: As we were leaving, a server was talking with another server and visibly threw her middle finger up at him! Wow! Those in the area saw it and shook their heads. That alone says too young to work in customer service. Would I go back when in Charlotte? Probably not! read more

I took my daughter to Deluxe for her 16th birthday brunch. While the drinks (like everything else) were overpriced, the atmosphere was cute and fitting for the occasion. The "highlights" were the two cheese puffs for $15 and the lobster dip for $24 -- until things took a turn. I bit into a large lobster or crab shell in the dip, which broke a piece of my tooth. I immediately informed the waiter and the manager, John, showing them both the shell and my broken tooth. John apologized but brushed it off by saying the dip is made in-house, so things like that can happen. He handed me his business card, which in hindsight felt like an empty gesture. After receiving a $2,600+ dentist bill to repair my tooth, I emailed John on 2/26 to remind him of what happened and suggested that the staff double-check the dip and possibly warn guests when serving it. I mentioned that I've been making seafood dip for over 30 years and have eaten it at many restaurants without ever having this issue. I followed up again on 3/6, but as of 3/16, I haven't received any acknowledgment -- not even a simple "thank you for your feedback." Given the high prices (which is mainly for exuberant serving dishes) and the automatic 20% gratuity, you'd expect better care for their customers. Sadly, that wasn't the case. We definitely won't be returning or suggesting anyone else visit -- if not for the incident itself, then for the lack of concern afterward. read more

Came for Queens Feast. Reservations were hard to come by for this location Uptown, but staff was nice and worked with me to accommodate a reservation on a Tuesday evening. This new restaurant has a fun concept that literally showcases the "fun art of dining" with both its decor and ambiance, as well as its playful plating of each of their dishes! They had a great #prixfixemenu ; for $35 you get a choice of a starter, an entree, and a dessert. I decided to do the lobster puff for our starter. This delicious pastry puff stuffed with cheeses and lobster meat was served on an actual vintage toaster!? It was so cute, quirky, and unexpected that it definitely enhanced the meal experience! I did the pomegranate short ribs for the entree, and this did not disappoint, especially when the plating was an impressively ostentatious wood board with wings! The tiramisu was adorably plated with a shadowed fork displayed in the chocolate dust. We paired this with their delicious Turkish coffee (this is not included in the price fixe menu) which was served traditionally from the pot to the gorgeous glass and silver tray. It came with two yummy mint chocolate swizzle sticks! I highly recommend doing this menu experience for Queens Feast or just as a dining experience! They also have an eclectic wine list, so we definitely recommend doing a pairing or trying Armenian or Moldovan wines! We went for restaurant week and I honestly have no idea what I expected, but this was fun. I haven't eaten somewhere before that makes a complete event out of actually receiving your food. What a good time! The lighting was super dim though so the photo quality wasn't as great as I would have loved to get the most out of sharing. I just don't think the photos do it justice. The servers seemed to be a bit all over the place, too. We watched often as people had no idea where food should go. While that's an improvement area, I don't think it vastly impacted our experience. Our server was insanely on top of refilling my water which is something i love to see. My bf absolutely loved his food, but wished the AC was working. This cute drink was presented with a punch. I was pleased with the taste. My friend ordered the Love & Like. If you're a tequila drinker, then this is the drink for you. My entree was the Chicken Kyiv. The portion size is perfect. I was so happy with the flavor and texture of the chicken. It was dry and perfectly fried. The very first time I went I was blown away by the food and the staff! Super personable and always made the time to chat with you like you were the only patron. They had a sax player that evening and it was an entire vibe!! Second time I went, staff still great but the food wasn't (I ordered the same dish). The meat was tougher and saltier. I didn't enjoy it the same: my friends enjoyed the entertainment but I wasn't expecting (belly dancers) I wasn't offended I just didn't wasn't in the mood for that vibe or music. First let me say that this place has some great customer service. Every server, bartender and the hostess were friendly and attentive. They answered questions, gave recommendations and checked in on us often. So that's that, now onto the venue and menu... So my friend sends me this restaurant that serves statues with your order. Yep, you read that correctly. Order a drink or appetizer and get it served with a giant flamingo as a convo piece. We were excited to go and called and made a res. We arrived a little late and worried our table would not be available...no worries as we were the only ppl there at 6:45 on a Saturday. No biggie, it's early and we are still in the pandemic. The decor is very much IKEA meets the Mediterranean with touches of zebra print. Aside from the recognizable decor the music was FIRE! Mary J Blige, Biggie, Teven Campbell and lots more great playing (a little loud but we were close to the speaker). The menu is creatively written however it took us a moment to figure out the cuisine. I think it's Mediterranean modern but calling it "Fine Dining" is a big stretch. There were several appetizers with the word "puff" in it. Shrimp, meat and cheese puff to be exact as well as $42 order of "24 Karat gold chicken wing entree that didn't include the # of wings on the order. Regardless who's paying $42 for wings? We settled on the popcorn shrimp ($23) and the Mr. Krab dip. The popcorn shrimp was served in a table top popcorn machine. It was so cute and even included popcorn mixed in with the fried shrimp. The Mr. Krab dip was served on a board with a vibrant baby Buddha (we fed the Buddha the dip). Presentation was an A but the food was a D -. The shrimp was no doubt frozen breaded shrimp that you could buy at Sam's club or Costco. Most of the pieces had more bread than shrimp. In fact the best part of this dish was the actual popcorn. The "crab" dip had no crab flavor. It was more of an old bay flavor. The texture was also off. Crab is not diced like riced cauliflower so I'm calling BS that there was any real crab meat in that dish. Also the pita points that accompanied the dip were drench in butter. This def needs to be reworked. Again, we loved the service but the food was not on point. Also the drinks were blah. I had a strawberry rosliny that was red like a strawberry and served with a strawberry but had zero strawberry flavor. I would say come for the atmosphere and sit at the bar to watch the digital fish tanks on the big screens (I know, I can't even make this decor description up, so all over the place). Smoke hookah and ppl watch. Or sit on the patio for your birthday and order the flaming statue. All in all, cool concept and we had a ball doing something different. read more

What an amazing experience! Tucked in uptown Charlotte is this amazing, fun and yummy restaurant. We went on a Thursday after work and we were seated as soon as we entered (we had a reservation). I had checked out the menu beforehand but nothing prepares you for how amazing the presentation is. From the drinks to the appetizers and entrees you are in for a visual delight. Not only is the food prepared well, it's presented great. I ordered the "all about it" seafood rice and it was amazing. The rice was perfectly seasoned and the seafood was well prepared. When I first arrived here I couldn't understand why this restaurant only had a 3.9 star review, but before I left I understood why. When we first arrived the manager John greeted us and gave us free Mimosas which was generous. We went during brunch so we had the starter, entree, and dessert for $40 pp. The starter was good and so was the presentation. We had the fried shrimp and oysters. After the starters everything went downhill. We ordered the chicken and waffles and the ribeye for entrees. We waited for about 40 minutes, still no entree. We were in the area for a meeting and it was near the meeting time, so we had to request that the remaining of our food be boxed up to go. It was then that we were told that the waffle maker was broken which was the cause for our delay. Instead of giving us an option to cancel or change our meal, they bought us out chicken and potatoes. 1) That is not what I ordered. 2) I could be allergic to potatoes or not like them. Don't ever make a substitute for a customer, give them the option to do so! We didn't make a big fuss because we were late for our meeting and needed to go. They gave us our to go bag and when I got in the car realized they didn't pack the dessert. Called the manager John and we were able to go back there after our meeting to pick it up. It was not a good first experience and $106 later we still didn't get what we wanted and had to do a lot of waiting and back and forth. Like a lot of others stated, presentations are nice, but service, service recovery, and food is not up to standard. We ordered several items that every entrées met our taste buds with a delicious sensation. The atmosphere and the lighting provided the perfect ambiance & comfort all its on. The manager gave us a tip; while we enjoyed the oyster Rockefellers to barely squirt some lemon juice on them and lightly dip them into the sauce... that increased my taste buds 10+.... I've been dying to check out this Mediterranean restaurant, and I finally got my chance... As expected, the place is stunning...with a sexy, dark lounge ambiance with neon/glow back-lighting. Aside from the stunning ambiance, their plating presentation is simply SPECTACULAR...as in seriously theatrical. If you check out all the pics, you'll see what I mean. For starters, we ordered "Itty Bitty Fried & Pretty" (Puff Pastry with Beef), and it was surprisingly good...with a slightly spicy flavor. Our entrees and dessert didn't disappoint either. My husband ordered the Smoked Turkey Leg, with a side of Roasted Mushrooms; and I ordered the King Crab Pasta. Finally, we ordered their only dessert, Tiramisu. All unusually delicious!! I don't even think I would have cared that much if the food was just mediocre ...given just how amazing the plating was! However, not the case...the food was surprisingly good, with an unusual twist as well. Of course, I took a crap load of pictures. Once you see these plates/trays, it's truly hardly to resist. The whole dining experience wasn't exactly "fine"...but it was truly all-out, over-the-top FUN!! Not just snazzy ambiance and spectacular plating, but amazing foods too (truly, a unique menu!)...and the service was good too. I truly hope this place survives Covid. This restaurant is known for their unique spin on food presentation and tonight was a true definition of why guests keep coming back. I've been here numerous of times for brunch, lunch and dinner and always have a fun times. I'm always curious of what type of abstract display the food will be presented on. On Saturday, July 26th at 9:30 am I made a reservation on Open Table for 5 people at 6pm. At 4pm I called to add 2 more people. The lady claimed she was the manager and Said we don't have a reservation for you. I told her it was placed on open table. She said well sorry we didn't merge my reservation I can't help you.
