Obviously the Morning Atmosphere is what draws me to the Windmill Denny's in Arcadia, CA. Sadly Teamwork is Needed here. I Always order Steak & Eggs:). This time I sat at the counter and I was Ignored by as many as: 1 Manager, 3 Servers, & 2 Cooks. I was clearly within eye view of them all. I tried making eye contact but to no avail. I was doomed to be Invisible! After 13 minutes at the Counter, I flagged down a male server and asked him who is running the counter & instead I forced my order on him. If that wait wasn't enough, after 15 more minutes I saw my plate at the cooking station with my excellent vantage point. I suddenly noticed a new crew of 3 servers clocked in, Very Quickly, I raised my hand & waved side to side and assertively told her to grab my Steak & Eggs, she checked, Yes it was mine! She brought it to me & finally I was cutting into my tough, hard supposed to be medium steak. I forced myself not to complain & so I just ate it. Regrettable Experience! Even my hashbrowns were undercooked! One server apologized & and admitted to me, "No one was clear on who was supposed to service the counter: today" I did tell the manager when I paid, looking embarrassed, he apologized. On this gloomy Friday, I had a sudden craving for Dennys. Determined to satisfy my craving, I ventured out for dinner, and indulged in an assortment of food. Walking into this Dennys, I was pleasantly surprised to see the immaculate floors. My wonderful server, Gracie swiftly delivered my lasagna, oreo milkshake, and lava cookie skillet. Overall, my experience was nothing short of delightful with the food exceeding expectations! However, one thing to note is the rather chilly ambiance. How could Dennys be so cold???? Was there last Saturday night and ordered the Oreo Milkshake and the Original Grand Slam but the portion of the milkshake shrunk up by 50% (it used to give you one tall glass of milkshake + the rest of the milkshake in a stainless steel cup)... It's been years since we've been to this Denny's. Since they just reopened, we decided to take the kids for a weekend breakfast. It was fairly crowded so service definitely suffered. The food was slow to come out, but I understood that it was a busy time. When the food did come out, we had to ask for things like syrup for the pancakes and butter for the toast. My coffee was consistently refilled. The food was adequately tasty - as expected. One of the kids wanted French toast and the other wanted eggs and bacon. I didn't see French toast on the kids menu so I ordered them a French Toast Slam to share, which worked out perfectly. I ordered the Lumberjack Slam and shared some with the kids. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak. Food was as expected for Denny's but definitely more expensive than I remembered it. The remodel looks great. Really cute interior. However, we sat by the window and even with the shade down it was really hot. The 3 stars is because the service is just not there yet (likely due to the busy reopening) and the prices are fairly high for the food served. read more

The Denny's in the old Van De Kamps building has always been a favorite. Being Palm Sunday, they were especially busy. My wife and I sat at the counter, and the Hostess, Natalie, was our server. We ordered our Super Slam to share. Sitting at the counter, we saw the plates as the cooks placed them up for the servers. I saw our order come up, and within 30 seconds, Natalie served our breakfast hot and delicious. Natalie greeted and sat guests, manned the register, made drinks, kept an eye on the counter guests, making sure our food was served hot. We enjoy the food at Denny's , but the great service makes this location our favorite. read more

I was so excited that they had the Turkey Dinner. When I got my food, the first item that I tried was the mashed potato side; it was so awful! It tasted very sour and gross. It was likely spoiled. I asked the waiter to change it to French fries instead, but when he came back he brought out rice! The Turkey and gravy was extra extra salty! The waiter didn't even come by to refill my water! After eating here, I felt like I got ripped off both calorie wise and money wise. Breakfast never felt more disappointing. Food: 1/5 - Chicken and Sausage Quesadilla- When I'm craving a quesadilla, remind me never to order one from Denny's. The amount of meat in the quesadilla was almost nonexistent. The cheese wasn't what you'd expect, stringy and delicious. The cheese was probably the most sad, as it was just a plain slice of American cheese. Weird. I can make quesadilla better at home. Pork Roast Breakfast- The mashed potatoes were okay and the Pork Roast was slightly tender. I guess I'd say this was a decent meal. Philly Cheese Omelette- Very disappointing. The cheese was good - mozzarella! Why couldn't they use this in my quesadilla? The egg was good, but that's expected from a breakfast restaurant. The main attraction, Philly Cheese, was a total let down! The meat wasn't even close to Pastrami. It was basically the Pork Roast, leftover from the Pork Roast Breakfast. It seemed like this Denny's used a bunch of leftover ingredients / whatever ingredients they had left in their pantry to make our meals. Don't recommend this location. Service - 3/5 - Even though the food wasn't that great, the staff was decent. The food I ordered was very good, what little there was of it, but their portions are extremely small, which is a total turn off. My bill totaled around $30.00 with everything included, and that is totally unacceptable. Had I not drank three or four cups of coffee there, I would have left extremely hungry. Too bad StarBucks does not have good coffee like Denny's. I really like their mac n'cheese, and onion rings. The salmon was good, but was only a few bites, and the Mac n' cheese was served in a tiny dish. What's good about this place? The interesting decor on the outside of the building. It's a windmill, and it stands out for several blocks as you approach this intersection. What's not good about this place? Plenty. To start off, the service here is painfully slow. So you will have to come here with an abundance of time, or take your business elsewhere. Also, the food and drinks preparation are bad. And the prime example I have is the horrible tasting iced tea. It tasted like it's been sitting there for weeks. That, or as if it had been tainted with something. It was disgusting! The good also had no effort put into its preparation. The taste was mediocre. I won't be coming back here. But I hope the managers here improve the service. It has quite a way to go. read more

To preface my one experience, I love eating at Denny's even though the wait can be long the food is always hearty and delicious. I ate at this location practically every other week. But my last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. I put in my order of the sampler with chips & queso, chicken tenders, and boneless wings. When the food came out there were mozzarella sticks in place of the wings, an honest mistake. The waitress assured me she would get my wings and put the order in. About half an hour passes and I'm stuck with chips with no queso, mozzarella sticks without marinara sauce and honey mustard but no wings, so I go up to ask the waitress if wings were still coming out. She checks on my food and in about 10-15 minutes the wings are out. I ate the first wing whole and bit into the larger second wing. That's when I looked at the wing and noticed that the center was raw. I cut into the other wings and they were all the same, raw at the core. I have reached out to try to get to the core of the issue but haven't heard back since. This happened two weeks back on 4/8/19. read more

The best laid plans of Mice and Ben... we got the shut-out at Gate 8 of Santa Anita, our plans to breakfast at Clocker's Corner roundly denied thanks tothe onslaught of visitors to Arcadia for the Breeder's Cup. Since my colleagues and I still needed to meet-- and now, relatively quickly with the encroaching bell that signaled the start of the day at our respective schools, we adjourned to the local Denny's at the corner of Santa Anita and Huntington... a building with nearly as much history as the racetrack itself. As a kid, I remember driving past the giant windmill atop the Van de Kamp's bakery restaurant. There was a time many years ago when an electric motor turned the blades of the windmill-- an effective deterrent to pigeons, I would imagine. Now, it stands in motionless, silent vigil to a simpler time in Arcadia. The proximity of this Denny's to nearby Arcadia Park, and the crossroads of two major public bus routes (Santa Anita and Huntington Drive) makes this restaurant a magnet for psuedo-homeless, older folks with seemingly nowhere else to be, and a smattering of working folks. In fact, all are welcome to loiter in front of and all around the building. While the "$1.99 are you outta' your MIND?" promotion for Grand Slam breakfasts is long gone, the 2/4/6/8 dollar menu offers a few choices for every budget. Steak and eggs is north of $14. Things seem more expensive than the value you're going to get. My two eggs, pancakes, and a sausage and piece of bacon were all ... small. Were those quail eggs? For $4, I thought I'd get out with a fiver; nope, $2.00 for bottomless coffee. I might have drank my money's worth, were it not for the bottomless pit into which our server seemed to fall after dropping off our plates. There is a small, lizard-like reptile called the Tuatara, endemic to New Zealand and surrounding small islands. Because it is the last surviving member of an ancient reptilian lineage reaching back 200 million years, it is sometimes called a "living fossil." Such is Denny's. It is a remnant of a different time, when you probably couldn't taste your eggs anyway because of everyone smoking Pall Mall's in your general vicinity at the counter. I'm sure that there are enough senior citizens, late-night post-club drunk twentysomethings, and angry drifters to keep this place afloat into perpetuity. But in a megalopolis like ours, with countless other breakfast options within a couple of miles, a couple of bucks, and couple orders of magnitude measuring food quality... my visits here will be few and far between at best. read more

I've been to this location many times, during normal hours and then the not so normal hours... the service and food have never really been the greatest, but somehow the other night changed me. Not only did we have exceptional service by Ariana, the $2, 4, 6, 8 menu was an awesome way to end the search for a decent snack during a "late night" hour. I had a craving for some baked goods, but past 9PM nothing bakery related is open... just coffee and tea shops with baked goods that didn't sell for the day. You wouldn't have expected the $2, 4, 6, 8 menu to have that many selections, but it does! Pancake Puppies for $2! All you can eat pancakes for $4! Need I say more? The next time you are searching for a restaurant to go at an odd hour or you're just craving something to snack on, remember that Denny's is open 24 hours! A couple of my coworkers and I decided to come here to grab something to eat after watching a Dark Knight at AMC Santa Anita 16 at night, around 10:30 PM. We figured this would be a quick meal and go, but it ended up longer than we thought it would be. This Denny is located in the corner of Santa Anita Ave and Huntington Drive. You cannot miss the windmill, unless you are drunk, that can be acceptable. The service is horrible and slow. I know I haven't been to Denny's in forever, but damn, how hard is it to sit people down when there are so many tables available and all they had to do was to add in another chair to make it 5 seats? Apparently, it was super hard for them to figure that out. I expected Denny's food to be greasy, but instead, their hashbrowns were just...sad. Not greasy nor did it look cooked all the way. I know it's cheap food, and it's not hard to make, but can you at least make it look crispy on the outside and leave however you want it in the inside the way you want it? This is actually one of the worse Denny's food I've tasted. Now I know why there aren't that many people here, even when it's late. I am not planning to come back here again. No thanks. read more

I am actually surprised at how tasty the food is! I ordered the steak and eggs breakfast and a mango smoothie. The steak was cooked to perfection and it was delicious. The mango smoothie is way better than Costco's and reasonably priced too. Even the scrambled eggs are good. I'll certainly come back again. read more
