I found my breakfast to be subpar this morning. I went home and googled quality of Dennys food. According to Google, the hashed browns are reconstituted , the eggs are powdered, unless you order fried, the maple syrup is fake, they cook with oil instead of butter, and the cream is fake. Mind you, my omelet was $16.10. The bacon in my omelet was raw. For that same price I can go to Nordstrom Cafe or Claire's on Cedro and get real, not processed food. Coffee has been good, though, for 50 years. read more

I never go to Denny's, but when it's the only place open... got the Southwestern Benedict. It took quite a bit of time before the food came out. When it did, I asked another worker if the eggs were supposed to be poached, as they were gelatinous blobs. He said they make they're Benedict's over medium... WTF! He said they can make them poached and had to wait awhile. Meal was just OK. Ordered coffee, but they were out and had to brew more. Once I got it, grounds were in the cup. I came to this dining establishment and stood at the front door waiting over 20 minutes to be seated and no one came after a couple of people were waiting to be served. I just found an empty booth to sit and waited for over 30 minutes to be served. A couple of servers just walked by and didn't acknowledged me that I need to order a meal. I've asked a server to speak to the local manager because I want to file a complaint for lack of service after waiting for 30-45 minutes without being served. I will file a complaint to corporate HQ and this service is inexcusable. I've served over 25 years in the Army and served two combat tours in Iraq. read more

I've been here to many times to count, and I've always had a great experience. Especially this one lady that works there, and this one guy haha can not remember names. The only time I didn't was when I came in to get yet another order~ I always sit or stand in the same spots, but on this night I didn't because when I came in the floor was being mopped, so I sat on a stool instead, so I could put my feet off the floor- thought I was being kind, but the cook decided to yell at me from the kitchen that I couldn't sit in the area I was sitting with Tiān, so I simply moved to another spot behind me- couldn't keep my feet off the floor there, but as long as he wasn't yelling at me anymore I was good. Fast service, clean restaurant and a variety menu with even a 55 and over food selection. Located near the Racetrack just off highway 5 it's a convenient location. I ordered the salmon and veggies with wild rice off the 55 plus menu selection. The salmon was cooked perfectly with a good flavor, veggies were sautéed and also cooked the way I like them- Not much or over cooked. The rice was very flavorful and nutty. A nice change from traditional white or brown rice. I arrived on a Thursday evening after dropping my group at the Del Mar Fair, it was around 630pm. There were only a few people in the restaurant when I arrived but later filled up. My waitress was very pleasant and accommodating after I changed my order to Gluten free toast, Dennys has come a long way and I really enjoyed the meal. read more

Javier, the bus boy bus boy is very, very awesome . so thankful we met the brand new server and new assistant manager who were just totally awesome. Dennys always aim to please. I was pleasantly surprised with the freshness of the assortment of fried side dishes and main courses. But the texture of over processed components to these dishes left something to be desired. Asked him the Resturant's policy on costumers doing drugs in the parking lot, right in front of the employee's exit door, he said they don't own the parking lot! I also posted a picture of a sign on the south side of the Building to further my point of view why I am Making this a issue. And asked my self what does this sign really mean? Does it mean inside or around the building? I ordered the T-Bone steak, please don't order it nothing good about it and the Salomon with wild rice was dry and tasteless. Ever feel like you'd been hosed for a meal? No? Well, come to this Denny's in Del Mar for a real drenching that'll put a fire hose to shame. The place has been redecorated in the last few years, and management, feeling it has to squeeze every dime out of the place, has made, in the same space, at least one and possibly two new booths. This means that the rest have to be smaller; and boy, are they! A friend of mine is a rather solid fellow, and over 6 foot. He couldn't get in one, and we had to sit at a table. I, myself, am shorter and somewhat stout myself, and the table was within an inch of me! The food was OK, but the prices? $14.00 for a grilled Super Bird?? That's about 30% higher in three years! So add in tip and two cokes, and a $5 tip, and you have yourself a $43.00 lunch. (It was a GOOD lunch, the server was fine, but those two were outbalanced by the other factors.) Outrageous. Of course there's inflation and the Pandemic; but a lot of businesses are using those factors to jack their prices up even higher than inflation, and this seems to one of them. Oh, and I can't forget the ambiance: the whole place stunk of plugged drains. The ONE server they had on (yes, just one) explained the drains had been giving trouble. Bleaugh. Never again. read more

To any weary traveler entering San Diego, make sure to stop by at this Denny's for some exquisite hospitality. There was an old lady named Cindy who has been serving this restaurant for 40 years (!) and was very kind and attentive of my needs (it's almost like your grandma ran this place). I arrived when the restaurant was almost empty (it was like 3:30 am) and Cindy suggested that I should be seated near the TV. My order was the T-Bone and Eggs and the Steak didn't disappoint at all (the English muffin could've been better, though). Normally, I don't leave a tip greater than 20% when eating out, but this lady has been at it for so long, that I decided to spend a little extra. Denny's appears to be Denny's wherever you may go. The food at this location was decent. We ordered for pickup via online ordering and once via telephone order. The online order came just as we ordered. The telephone order seemed more confusing for the staff and we got more than what we ordered or wanted (bananas on our pancakes), but it was fine we just scraped them off like the server/cashier recommended. Our first visit to the location we entered the restaurant and there were maybe 3-4 staff at the cashier counter and no one acknowledged us they just talked to each other and went about their business like we were not there. Then a Hispanic young lady staff member looked at us and said they will be with you in a minute and she walked away from the counter, still leaving us without anyone helping us. Finally a older gentleman (who's name I didn't get) asked if we needed seating for two. We then told him we were here for our pickup order placed online. He found the order that was ready for pickup and got our beverage for us. While waiting, a young man named Ray came to the counter and immediately asked if we needed seating (Ray was serving people in the restaurant when we entered and was not in the group that ignored us). We told him we were being served by someone. Ray was friendly and made small talk with us and my family remembered him because of the small talk . On the visit to pick up our telephone order there were two young men at the counter when we entered and they did acknowledge us as soon as we entered but no one knew of our order and who took the order at first. The young man told me he'd been taking phone orders and didn't remember us calling then he asked if the person that took the order sounded old . Well I'm no spring chicken so I gave him a look and asked what does old sound like and he and I laughed and he said I guess you can't tell if someone is old on the phone. Then the gentleman from our first visit appeared and I guess he was the person that took the order. Our order changed from a pick up to curbside as we waited for the food to be freshly prepared. The kids wanted to order from Denny's so we did. We would recommend eating here for curbside or pickup via online ordering. If ordering by telephone kindly ask them to repeat your order and ask who is this I'm speaking to that way you are prepared when you go to pick up the food. If you order online you pay online. Telephone orders you have the option to pay on the phone via credit card or you can opt to pay in person when you go to pick the food up. This location is located right before the I-5 South and North junctions on I believe the west side of Via De La Valle. read more

We came during a high school's pre-winter formal. Look out kids...you sure know how to go big! LOL We waited 15 minutes to get seated (not too bad). It took 10 minutes to get our drink order. Another 10 minutes to get our meal order. "ONE HOUR" to receive our food! You heard that right...ONE HOUR! Oh, by the way, this Denny's does NOT participate in the kids eat free on Mondays and Saturdays promotion!!! This morning while driving home to San Diego from LA I decided to stop in for coffee. I was greeted and served by a hospitable, kind and welcoming person named Cindy. She was excellent at explaining the menu and quick to make a fresh pot of coffee. Just when I feel Customer Service is gone, along comes Cindy. The meal was pretty pathetic even for a Denny's. I knew what to expect and even then I was disappointed with cold motzarella sticks. Furthermore, I asked for a side of toast with my dinner and was told I could only order toast if I ordered a breakfast item which is frankly ridiculous. After all this, I was offered refills on my coke, which I accepted not knowing I would be charged $4 per "refill" on a glass of coke which is insane. Call it another drink, not a refill. I wound up paying $40 for what I would call a $15 meal. This is the latest in a string of bad experiences at this location. Won't be coming back. read more

I was always curious about this Denny's haha for some reason I thought it would be a fancier Denny's compared to other locations since it's across the street from the Del Mar race track haha. I stopped in with my coworker a couple of weekends ago since she lives across the street. The interior is nice inside, it looks fairly new or at least renovated in the last few years. My favorite is their $2,$4,$6 menu. I always get chicken wraps with BBQ sauce. I think it's really good. Definitely not a bad place for a late night cheap meal. read more

4 co workers and I went to Denny's to drink mimosas and wanted to get some late night dinner. we ordered our food and Cindy did a good job on informing us that after 2 we couldn't have the drinks. We told her we understand and she brought them over. THEN SOMETHING SO DISTURBING HAPPENED.. as I was on my second drink. Literally sipping the rest of it... Kyle comes and takes the drink from my hand while I was literally drinking it!!! No warning or anything he just took it right from my mouth!!! never in my life did I imagine I would get this kind of service. I am really uncomfortable and disturbed by the actions of this employee. He was not only rude but he did not respect personal space and had no sense of compassion or sympathy when it came to respecting me as a guest ! I almost feel violated, that whole situation is just entirely wrong !!!! I don't know if he's had the vaccine and he literally grabbed my hand and pulled the drink from my mouth!!! When he took the drink from my mouth he chipped my tooth This is not OKAY. I asked for a refund for this horrible service and Kyle was not having it. We walked out and left. I tried to order the Senior Citizen Special $8.99 Scrambled eggs with cheese, 2 pancakes and 2 Turkey bacon. . I was given the $8.99 All You Can Eat Special... With Hash Browns, not a fan & only 2 slices of Turkey Bacon. I was a little puzzled why it took over 10 minutes for another glass of milk. I can acknowledge that this was a different food server. Been coming here for 9 years, and my kid's favorite place. Seems like there has been quite a bit of turnover lately and the server, Eva, we had yesterday was combative with me. Here's the scenario: I ordered the sirloin steak for my son (for about the 100th time). I guess there is another version where they add a bit of butter and it's 30 cents more. Yeah, 30c, big deal, but my son doesn't like his steak altered. So I asked "what is this?", she replies that it's what we ordered, and I said, "no, I ordered the sirloin steak", and then she blamed the mistake of serving garlic parmesan butter on the cook. So she asks him to scrape off the butter into her napkin, as if it was a piece of snot. I said to my son, "nevermind, just scrape it off to the side of the plate, and then she says, "no, just put it on my napkin" which is now touching the side of his plate. Who knows what pocket that napkin came out of. It was a bit annoying that she's intruding in our personal space, but not too big of a deal at the moment. The rest of the dinner was uneventful, and even this one incident was not a big deal and didn't even stand out in my mind until what came at the end. The bill comes and she up-charged us for the butter! I told her on the way to the register, "I think you charged us for the wrong item. The regular sirloin is $12.99 and this is $13.29". At this point, it's just about the principle of the matter...that she is stealing from me and my 2 young kids. She said, "no, this is the only item on the menu." I said, "No, I specifically saw sirloin steak for $12.99." Mind you, we come here every week. She's thinks I am stupid. Then she goes to the order kiosk and starts pressing buttons and it looks like she is just doing it to show me there is one item. Then she points and says, "see, it's all the same price". (Wait, now she admits there are two different items on the menu?) I replied, "Well, then your menu is wrong and it needs to be fixed." At this point, she goes quiet and heads to the cash register, and I deduct more than 30c from her tip, but I regret even giving her a tip. It should have been $0.
