Impromptu visit to Der Dutchman. This place is lovely. I love the ambiance and the service and food. It was cold Saturday and comfy food was just the ticket. This place is always busy so plan on a wait. BUT I've not waited longer than 20 minutes. We were greeted by Melissa. Such a nice server. My hubs had the buffet. The salad bar is huge. Lots of varieties to make a delicious salad. All of the ingredients looked fresh! He had then roasted chicken potatoes and green beans. Food warm and delicious. My SIL had the buffet and had the roast beef. I'm not a fan but is was very flavorful and delicious!! I had the chicken tenders. Really that meal is e piggy to share. Tenders were huge and the breading was light and yummy. I had fries and fresh fruit which included cantaloupe, muskmelon, strawberries, pineapple, and grapes. All fresh and delicious! You can order from the menu or have the buffet. Either way is a win-win Good value for the price. Had we not been stuffed we would have opted for pie!! For probably 20 years or more, we stop at Der Dutchman for donuts on our way out of Ohio back home to Colorado! Our 3 boys loved the chance to choose their favorite donut! Even though our boys have grown and flown, we still stop in for our traditional treat. The best donuts! My favorite is the maple frosting with custard filling! We visited Der Dutchman in Plain City Ohio yesterday. The food is fantastic. They give huge portion sizes. Now, we didnt do the buffet, although it looked lovely. We wanted leftovers and to be able to share. Also, my husband being a farmer's son hates to waste. We each ordered a different suppers and different sides. We had 2 extra (ala cart) sides, 2 slices of pie and two teas. The bill was still a good amount less than we expected. We packed up the leftovers into a cooler and drove 1 1/2 journey back to home. We're still eating the delicious leftovers. The ambiance is comfortable, homey, and squeaky clean. We think they only hire people who are excellent at working with the public. We go for the buffet. Middle American/ Amish/Mennonite food to fill you UP. Light on the spice. The plain taste of what you're eating, mostly. As much as I love Indian, Ethiopian, Schzuan, etc., THIS is just as much a regional, national cuisine and it sure has it's own merits. The menu varies somewhat, even from station to station, so take a walk though the vastness first, spot and sample. I've been here a few times. One time the meatloaf slayed me. We went for lunch buffet yesterday thinking we might take whole family if it was great. Well it was nice, clean, wonderful servers and pleasant but the food is too bland for us. I think if you have to go, take some seasonings with you. There was not much flavor in the food. My mouth was craving taste. The chicken was chicken with a little crunch but not much coating. The meat loaf was ground beef with ground ham and pineapple, the bread pudding was like cinnamon buns chopped into a pan with a sweet brown sugar sauce on top. The dressing didn't have much flavor so I poured gravy over it. The food was like you'd get at home. If you are craving home cooking, without a lot of flavors, you are at home here. I guess my pallet has become more sophisticated...not being harsh. Everybody has their own taste for food. Bakery is gorgeous looking but we passed them up for now. read more

Have been coming here for probably 20+ years and watched it grow and grow into the huge restaurant, ballroom space as well as gift shop and bakery. Every now and then I get a craving for some good comfort food and Der Dutchman is a great place to go. They have a great breakfast bar and breakfast menu, but I go for the Lunch/Dinner bar. The fried chicken is always delicious. They have great pineapple glazed ham as well. I also love the Mac and cheese. They also have a good assortment of pies. The building is large and it is always packed. This can cause lines at the Buffet. The servers are always pleasant and will take the time to small talk with every customer. Overall, the food is good but nothing that will change your world. The deserts are very good, but going to Holmes county will get you even better ones. I loved this sweet restaurant full of character and happiness. While visiting my cousins a while back, they were kind enough to bring me to Der Dutchman for lunch after we vintage shopped all morning. What a nice surprise! The room was warm and rustic. Varnished wood and a booth inside a carriage really added to the quaint atmosphere. Home cooking Americana was front and center. Everything we ordered was plentiful and delicious. The "Noodles Over Mashed Potatoes" is exactly what it sounds like. Two great side dishes on one plate with a sort of buttery chicken broth. Yum! The Amish baked goods were delightful. The Amish food and bakery is amazing! And I love that it's so much closer than driving up to Ohio's Amish Country. Pre-pandemic our favorite meal was the buffet. Now they are serving the buffet food instead of letting patrons serve themselves. I'm glad they found a way to keep a loved menu option and stay safe. The bakery and shops are worth visiting if you haven't been. My three-year-old wanted to buy all of it! It's a great place to find gifts for people that may be hard to buy for. The donuts, fritters, cinnamon rolls, and other goodies at the bakery are so delicious. I'm glad this place is a little bit of a drive and not around the corner! Local Amish food just minutes from Dublin. Der Dutchman has been around since I was a little boy. I remember going to the original location called the Dutch Kitchen which was just down the road. This review is based on the food and service as we had a private room in the back. This place is its own world, and I mean that in the best possible way! We had an extremely large party and they were able to set us up in a back room and took the best care of us. As we entered the restaurant there was a clearly marked sign to let us know where to go for our experience. The girls were waiting to greet us as we walked in, asked us to chose a seat around a large square table that was great. We could all see and hear each other as opposed to a longer, skinner table, we really appreciated that setup. After drinks were ordered and the ladies were telling me about the main dining area and that it is also buffet style. They brought some extras from the salad bar for us, cheese, beets and some other goodies. Once the salads were started I was schooled in the joys of their peanut butter. I'm told his has a bit of a marshmallow cream to fluff it up a little and it was heaven on their homemade breads, if I could get it away from the nieces! The main course consisted of every possible comfort food I could think of. Broasted chicken (my first time trying and wow it did not disappoint!), pot roast and ham with the lightest fluffiest masked potatoes in the universe, corn, green beans, their amazing gravies (2 kinds!) and more bread. Then dessert... I apologize I didn't get a picture of all the different kinds of pie but it all disappeared too quickly! Name a pie, I'm sure they have it. Going on a Saturday be prepared for a wait, we had about an hour to wait so we checked out the store and bakery. Bought some doughnuts to go. They were massive doughnuts but very good. Once seated, we both got the buffet. Sections were typical of other Amish places, veggies, mashed potatoes, salad bar, fried chicken. I enjoyed the green beans, sweet potatoes, ham and rolls. Thus far, I only come to Der Dutchman for one thing: Their chocolate chip and peanut butter cookie dough. You can buy it on line, BUT THE SHIPPING IS FLAT RATE $29.99, WTF!!! No fluffin way. So, instead of spending $52 and change for two of their standard 3 lbs. tubes, I drive the 30 minutes from work and grab ont out of their mini fridge right up front by the registers. Family and I stopped here on the way home from Indy. We had a very good breakfast. We loved the family feel and the very gracious people. The menus were well displayed and the pie was the cherry on top. There was a lot of space so plenty of seating. The prices are fair and you get great service. Our family decided the way we'd conclude Christmas 2019, is to have lunch at Der Dutchman. I found it to be a wonderful idea as an alternative to stopping off at Skyline Chili White Castle or Burger King on my drive back to Pittsburgh.   I expected authentic Amish Cuisine, obviously my expectations were aimed too high,I found it quite disappointing. I didn't notice any Scrapple Chow Chow or anything that resembled Amish cuisine, I might as well have dined at Ryan's, or Golden Corral, for similar food offering & higher quality.,Dutchman's foods below average & has about the flavoring excitement of rice cakes & Tofu. The only food that had any good taste or flavor was their bread. When it came to the interior & decor of the restaurant,it was of a rather calming & pleasant feel of being on a country farm which complimented the restaurant's exterior. I was pleased with the service, the servers are all friendly, hospitable & attentive. I love their bakery with the variety of jams apple butter, & desserts. If I do return here in the near future it will only be for the bakery or if this restaurant is taken over & ran by new management with a better cooking staff. First of all the food is all homemade and tasted delicious! The service was excellent and even though the parking lot was completely full of cars our party of two had no wait for a table or service to our table at all! We were waited on immediately after being seated and were eating within minutes! The fresh homemade dinner Rolls were served hot and fast during our meal as well as our drinks were replenished and freshened. We were checked on but not hovered over by our delightful server Skylar! I like to judge breakfast by the smell. When you walk in the smell should be your appetizer. The smell wasn't what I expected but the atmosphere was good. Small Town decor in a big city building. Had the breakfast buffet for only 9.99. Great price for what you get. Very average buffet. Not alot of variety. I like the fact that everyone isn't sitting on top of each other it's spread out with plenty of seating. Food is good plenty of crispy bacon. Good gravy also. Would I bring a friend from out of town? Absolutely ! Fresh strawberry jam at the table also. No need to order off the breakfast menu. Just get the buffet. Breakfast ends at 11am. If it had more variety I may have given it another star. My mother-in-law was taking me out for lunch for my birthday, and we had our hearts set on J Gumbo in Delaware, but when we arrived, we discovered that they were relocating and had not opened yet. I have visited the location near Mansfield and I remember enjoying the food, so I decided to try this location. When we arrived, I was amazed by how huge it was. The staff and guests were extremely friendly. Everyone fell in love with my 1-year-old. And she fell in love with the food, my wife and I had never seen her eat so much. Everything was super tasty aside from the potatoes; they were a little bland. But the mashed potatoes were seasoned nicely. The roast beef was my favorite item. I also love the fresh rolls with the Peanut Butter spread!My mother-in-law and wife tried the Pie Surprise and enjoyed it a lot. The buffet was stocked fully, and the food was nice and hot.
