I have came by here on 4 separate occasions and every time it is suppose to be open. But it's closed. I'm not 100-% sure if this location is even still open anymore. Edit: I was finally able to go in and eat. It seems this place only has 2 employees and only 1 really doing anything. So it seems short staffed is the reason the hours vary. Took about 10min to get my food. But the guy was nice and friendly. My last complaint is the price. It was $19 for a half pound of bbq and 2 small sides. This seems steep for the amount of food you get. But I moved my review from 1 star to 3 because of the guy behind the counter. Even when busy he was still super friendly and professional. read more

New management seems to be doing a great job keeping the quality up and the place clean. Had the brisket sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by the taste. It's not the best BBQ ever (I grew up in Texas) but it did scratch the itch and was a leg up on other Asheville brisket. Worth a stop in if you are on the fence! read more

We ordered from Dickey's BBQ for a 6:30 pm delivery on Sunday from GrubHub. The food didn't arrive until after 7:00 pm. It arrived cold and required reheating. I ordered a loaded baked potato and it was just awful. Paid $11 for a lump of garbage that I wound up feeding to my chickens. The potato wasn't cooked thoroughly. They loaded it with toppings I didn't ask for, such as onions. They didn't include things I did ask for, like sour cream. (The sour cream pictured on the potato was from my fridge.) Unbelievably disappointed. I wound up eating pieces of the family meal instead. The Mac and cheese was just like kfc. The green beans were mediocre at best. The baked beans reminded me of those bushes canned bake beans. The only tasty thing was the ribs. Meat was so tender, it was falling off the bone, and the bbq sauce was delicious. The meal was supposed to include 6 rolls, but I guess the restaurant didn't get the memo because those were not included. Overall, it was not even close to being worth the $80 I spent on this, and I don't recommend this establishment in any way shape or form. Stopped in on a whim because I saw on another site that there is a new owner. Glad I did! The chopped brisket was on point. Slaw and fries for my side. Fries were cooked to order (rather than already prepared and waiting under the lamp). Tried the original and sweet sauces and enjoyed them both. You can ignore all the reviews posted before June 30th, 2024. The place is under new management, and these guys really know what they are doing. Beef brisket was super tender, place is really clean, and unlike the previous management, this place is run by someone who really cares about quality. My husband and I had a terrible experience when we ordered carry-out here. The order was wrong, some of it not fully cooked and the meat was really dry. Kept waiting for it to open even though the sign said they would be and they weren't each time we went. Finally opened. Brisket sandwich was all fat. Couldn't tell what kind of meat it was. Never go back. This was on Upward Rd in Flat Rock. There was 3 of us that ordered brisket and 1 ordered chicken. I guess the chicken was ok, but nothing to brag about. Very disappointed. This restaurant is a total FRAUD. I placed a delivery order on their website. Over an hour after ordering, they texted to say the order was canceled. I asked for a refund. They didn't respond. I called the next day and was told I couldn't get a refund, even though they canceled the order that I placed through their website. I waited over two weeks and then disputed the charge on my credit card. The owner reached out to me asking me to cancel the dispute because then they'd refund the charge. I canceled my dispute, and then the owner emailed to say they wouldn't refund the order. AVOID. This place will steal your money. Update: The social media team who commented below hasn't answered any of my emails or my message on Yelp. This company is going out of its way to appear as though it has customer service, but still refuses to refund an order that it canceled. Disgusting business practices. Let me start off by saying I have eaten at dickeys before and I found The food to be OK. The last time I ate at dickeys barbecue I found a red long here in my cookie wrapper. But for some reason I decided to go back today to get the brisket taco and fries. I ordered my food and look to the right and saw the meat just sitting out exposed to all kind of things. I'm from New York so I don't know if that's a southern thing but it's disgusting. I wanted to walk out but I already order my food and my conscience wouldn't let me do that. Nice staff but Confusing process because they put on the door call in or order online. When I ordered by Yelp it told me food would be ready in an hour but when I called 30-40 mins later the food was complete. That sucks because I was very hungry and the condensation from the food in the plastic bag made everything soggy. I didn't receive my jalapeños (that I was charged $1 extra for.) they gave no spoon or utensils for the baked beans. Food was okay. I am sooooo thankful to have a local restaurant that serves TEXAS BBQ!!! Local being proximity, this is a chain. This is one of the few local businesses that keeps a great staff. These employees make eye contact AND smile. I love the Brisket. Dickeys offers original, sweet and spicy BBQ sauces. Delicious! The side offerings are made to order. Everyone was surprised I had never heard of Dickey's! But, I suppose being around since the 1940s will do that. I tried this place out purely out of convenience since I had just got my nails done next door and was starving. If I were a family, or anyone else, this place would have my rave review. Kids eat free? Free ice cream? Ridiculous amount of sweet tea?! Any one with an eagerness in sending themselves and their kids into a sweet, Southern, sugar-rush would be catered to nicely. I enjoyed the brisket; it was cooked well and had a great char on it. The mac n cheese was too commercial for me, not matching this chain's attempt at keeping the homemade persona; it reminded me of the frozen kind you buy when you just don't care enough to acknowledge that the ingredient reads "Cheese-flavor". My favorite in all of this was surprisingly the coleslaw! It was made just right---not too creamy, not too watery, add a little pepper and you are in coleslaw heaven :) Overall, the service was super-friendly and the food as pretty good. I wouldn't say this is the best barbecue joint out there in my experience, but it's a nice place that delivers a strong edge in the category it's in. Customer service at its best at this location on our visit - 5 Stars!!!! We showed up with about 30 min to close and I was kind of expecting the "come on we are cleaning up to be able to close on time" look if you know what I mean. Well that didn't happen. They warmly greeted us at the door with open arms in fact there were approximately 6 other sets of guests that came in after us even a few 5-10 min past close time and they still warmly greeted and served the guests. Great team spirit!!!!! The decor is typical Dickey's franchise if you haven't been into one. That being said this establishment was very clean on our visit even near closing. The food. Well I have a new favorite sandwich "The Westerner". I chose pulled pork and smoked sausage HOLY BBQ it made me want MORE sooooo tasty!!! I chose Fried okra and baked potato casserole for my sides. The potato casserole was just warm not hot hence my 4 stars. Did I mention free ice cream!!!!!! (yes at every Dickey's) I will be a returning customer to this location many times over as long as I get the same type of service and smile I got on this visit!!!! read more

The macaroni and cheese was a squishy block, not resembling macaroni at all. The baked beans seemed as though they were straight out of a Campbell's pork and beans can. The pulled pork was so fatty that I didn't even want to feed it to my dog. The pecan pie was stale. They need to close. read more

Well I gave it another try, courtesy of the restaurant. Happily, I had a better experience. I found the pulled pork to be smoky and tender, albeit a little under salted (an easy fix on my plate). Got slaw as requested this time - fresh, creamy and crunchy. Bread is still a little too sweet for my personal taste but think "dinner roll" and you'll like it. The vinegar sauce is still missing a little something in the middle and spicy end for me, but those favoring a thicker tomatoey sauce will probably like their smoky version. I wish they had Texas Pete. Had the green beans and they were good - I like lots of black pepper so these hit the spot. Super nice customer service. I'll come back. We've lived in Asheville awhile and because it was close decided to try Dickeys. 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon. They were out of potato salad and chicken and corn bread. For the prices I was expecting better food. BBQ was VERY fatty, potato salad definitely tastes store bought & the baked beans did as well (although the baked beans were probably the best thing I ate).
