Went for my first time. Absolutly the worst fries I've ever had. Soggy grease covered, and not crispy at all. Their generic onion rings as as good as anything in the grocery freezer section. I went here for the first time today and considered it a-OK coming from Seattle. I will have to say i still like the dick's in Seattle a whole lot better. I had a double whammy which was pretty good for the price. The fries on the other hand tasted like they were sitting under the lights for more than a few hours, definitely not fresh but not frozen either. I paid under $5, which is dirt cheap. The pies are awesome. Yeah, they look exactly like the rectangular pies from McD's, but they're filled with real cherries, and the crust is much tastier. I don't remember much else about the food, 'cause we were drunk, but I do remember all the dick jokes we were making on the way over. All in all it was pretty good - cheap, fast, very entertaining, and I didn't have any gastric disturbances. People who are saying Dick's "isn't in the best area" or that there are too many junkies/homeless people around, should visit the "bikini coffee shop" at the no-tell motel between the rescue mission and the Hell's Angels Clubhouse to put things in perspective. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch on the way to the airport. Seemed like a popular local place since there was a long line and many people eating outside. My husband liked the burger (but wished he got more than one) and I had the chicken sandwich (it was just okay). We also shared fries (not crispy enough) and onion rings (they were good). read more

Usually this place is hot and fresh. Mindful if the HOT FRESH. This time burgers were premade with cheese that wasn't melty. Burgers seemed to have less of that good greasy flavor that they usually have. We get fries and a whammy. This was a disappointment this time around. We usually will hit Dicks on the way out of town when we r passing through. We will give it one more try sometime in the future and see if this is a permanent trend or not. read more

I grew up in Montana, and went to school at the U of M in Missoula, and I don't think there was a college road trip anywhere near Spokane that didn't involve a trip to Dick's. It can be a little hard to find coming off the freeway, but even if we took a wrong turn (which we did many, many times) we always found our way to Dick's rather than stopping at another, possibly more convenient, fast food restaurant. Even now, I don't think I've passed through Spokane without stopping there. The Prices are great, the food is great and fresh, and you can watch them making your meal behind the big windows, so you know you're getting quality grub and it helps pass teh time when the lines are long. Speaking of long lines, I have to agree with what I've read in other reviews about the great crowd of people hanging around outside waiting to get to order and be fed. Sure, there are some pan handlers, but there are a bunch of great people there too. Once, three of us were headed back to Montana, and we were about as broke as you could get, and we had pooled all of our money together, including change dug up from under the seats in the car, and were discussing what we could afford to buy and whether or not we all wanted to share a beverage or an order of fries, when the lady in front of us turned around and handed us $10.00 and told us to get what we wanted. We politely refused, but she wouldn't take no for an answer, saying she was a mother, and by god we were going to eat a decent meal, which we did. For $10 dollars plus our change, we ate like kings. This place is a SCAM, im from Seattle, I came across this when i was staying in spokane. I thought, well im always up for a Dick's hamburger! I went there and the Panda instantly threw me off, along wtih the horrid menu. There wasnt even a Deluxe or Special on the menu, i ordered a burger and a drink w fries. Well....I have been eating Whammy's (Dick's Signature burger) since the early 80's. It h as changed a lot - like all other burger places - because the patties have shrunk. Pros - custom selected onions from supplier down south (the onions make or break this burger), condiments like catsup are free (in Seattle, you pay extra for catsup and mustard - .05 each), and you can custom order a Cherry Cola. Oh - the fries are as fresh as can be - cut and fried right before your eyes. Cons - the Whammy patties are smaller and dried out/rubbery sometimes. When I ask for extra onion, I envision the smart-ass minimum wage employee taking delight throwing on the whole onion. But, the fries are the real attraction (besides the really fressh sweet onions). We used to cruise Riverside Ave. with a bag of food for each of us from Dick's. Remember when?... Last but not least - they never take checks or credit card. Cash only. That's alright since they have cut out the overhead for great fast food. read more

I brought some people who had recently moved from out of state here to get the full "Spokane experience", having not been here myself in several years. All that I can really say is... What happened? Tasteless (things that looked like) cheeseburgers, a bag of grease that had some potatoes on the side. The whammy used to be that feel good bad-for-you comfort food that everyone craves. The wait was longer than I remember, which is fine... Minus the fact that it was freezing, and there were some scary people about. Not their fault, just the wait played into that. If you don't mind a lot of grease, this place is a decent place to get a burger if you want something a little different than your standard McDonalds meal. There is a good variety of food on the menu. Their shakes are good, their Coke fountain is dialed in well and not watered down. You can even get fried chicken if you want it, rare for Spokane. There is no where indoors to order food so in the wintertime it can be freezing despite overhead heaters, and in the summer you fry. It's also in the midst of downtown Spokane so you can expect to run into the occasional "character" and homeless person, especially at night. For the people that have grown up in Spokane, Dick's hamburgers is a local icon, but for those who haven't you need to try it. Dick's has delicious burgers, fries, chicken, shakes, and pizza, everything you want for dirt cheap. It used to be owned by the sweetest old man who worked there until they day he died. He gave ownership to a women he worked with for years and his son. They also own Frankie doodles which is right next door. Dick's is really old fashioned; they only take cash, they never write down an order, everything has to be from memory, and they have a very simple menu. Nothing at Dick's has changed since the day they opened. I highly recommend going to Dick's if you come to Spokane. read more
