Anyone comparing Dick's to In-n-Out clearly doesn't have much experience with In-n-Out. While In-n-Out is an LA institution and Dick's is a Seattle institution, they both sell inexpensive burgers, and the fries are meh, that's where the similarities end. Having lived in Seattle for over 4 years, it would have been a travesty for me to not review the legendary Dick's Drive-In. This spot is my "go to" for whenever I feel like breaking my not-so-strict diet or whenever I am too inebriated to care what I eat. The location itself is situated in Lower Queen Anne in a relatively quiet neighborhood as opposed to their Capitol Hill location. This makes for amazing views of downtown testator and South Lake Union if you turn down a residential street and find somewhere to park. The staff at Dick's are alway friendly and quick and I've never had to wait for more than 5 minutes regardless of the number of burgers I ordered. In terms of the food itself, I can profess that Dicks's is probably one of the best cheap burger joints in town, if not the best. The burgers are always delicious and the fries and shakes are welcome bonuses. I typically order 2-3 Deluxe's with an order of fries which comes out to around 12 bucks, which is quite a good deal. That being said, I have had friends from out of town state that the mayonnaise based sauce that they use is a little overpowering. Overall, I would have to rate Dick's at a 5/5 stars for me personally. I've been eating these burgers for over 20 years. In the last few years however the quality of beef has taken a nosedive. I try to look past the occasional gristle in meat, but now the gristle content is through the roof. Like a cheap wrangler hot dog. Just loaded. It has steadily increased over the years. Then came the bone fragments. I find AT LEAST one in every single patty burger, but have found more. Don't forget the lettuce. It tastes very near to the way bandaids smell. The fountain drinks are great. Best crushed ice. French fries are great when they're fresh. Great with tarter or dip em in a milkshake! They also have great ice cream and sundaes. I like peppermint ice cream with hot fudge, or vanilla ice cream with butterscotch. Cones. All still classics! However: I'm tired of cruddy meat. Used to say grade A Beef on the menu. I was here last night around 11:45pm and if I could give this place zero stars I would. And ontop of that We were waiting for over 25 mins and it wasn't even busy like that. First off the icecream/shake machine was beyond corroded with excess icecream mixture and it was highly disgusted and that's bacteria sitting on the corroded excess icecream. And as someone who worked in a burger place you should be at least cleaning that when it gets nasty like that so you're not spreading bacteria around.. and on top of that the sponge was dirty as well and they were using that to wipe the outside of the cups... my burgers weren't even warm and the fries were overly dry and ontop of that they gave me wilted lettuce on my burgers.... I had asked for a chocolate sundae and a chocolate cone and the cashier came back with vanilla and then went and got the right icecream... my friend is allergic to anything with nuts in it and when she ate the icecream she ended up getting a severe allergic reaction.. the scoopers should not be cross contaminated like that. I was also getting ignored until I raised my voice and yelled EXCUSE ME!! For someone who spent the amount of money that I spent, nothing should've been wrong with my order at all.. and there's no reason my friend should've had a allergic reaction and there's no reason we should've got sick off the food, literally so sick to the point where we are throwing up.. this experience was beyond irritating and disrespectful and I had it! With all the hype I came here expecting a great drive thru burger. Maybe something like a Tommy's original, Pick n Quick, In n Out, etc, or even a diner burger. What I got instead was an oversized White Castle, pre-cooked, greasy, with a bunch of soggy fries. 100+ plus reviews for Dick's. Surprised that I have not written a review for it after countless visits. Well, let me put it out in the universe that Dick's is an awesome burger chain. Have visited the Wallingford, Capitol Hill and this location and found the Queen Anne one to be the best. Probably this is because of its location and because it is an actual restaurant with seating. Though the drive-in part of the restaurant name makes no sense as there is no drive through nor is it one of those places like Sonic where your order gets brought to your car. I don't think this is even feasible in urban Seattle. The menu is simply burgers, fries and shakes. There is really little variation from these items other than pieces of cheese or extra meat. The big thing to be aware is that condiments cost extra, like ketchup. Usually this is no big deal since I get an order of fries which is already seasoned enough for me. The burgers here are good and I usually go for the deluxe which has a special sauce which makes it tasty. Burgers seem fresh too which is great. Probably because the beef is the main item they serve. Also, I like their vanilla shakes though it is a bit of pain to sip using the straws they have. A bit too much pressurized for me to down. Overall, I like Dick's as a cheap burger fix place. It is conveniently located in Queen Anne with good parking and spacious dining area. It makes for a quick dining stop before or after an event at Seattle Center. read more

You can't visit Seattle without trying some Dick's Burger, but since I live here.. I always try to stop by whenever I'm downtown for any reason. I even waited in the long line out the door after a Macklemore concert lol To me, Dick's is simple and affordable. I know there's always comparison to In N Out in Cali BUT who cares? This is what we're known for and that's what they're known for so it is what it is. And if I had to pick between both, I pick Shake Shack LOL. Location here is always a bit sketchy so I try not to bring my kids depending on the time of day it is, but I only come here to dine in. Nothing has changed about this place and that's what I like. We made a quick stop to grab a bite at Dick's before heading back to rest. Someone we ran into suggested the local burger place, Dick's Drive-in. They mentioned it was cheap and delicious. This place reminds me of the old school early beginnings of McDonald's. The menu is limited which would not be a problem if the food was good. They have burgers, cheeseburgers, fries and drinks. I wanted ketchup and I was told that this was a separate charge. The food is put together in an assembly line form. Everything is the same. Someone standing behind me in line compared this place to In-n-Out. That person must have never EVER tried In-n-Out to make such a comment. Even on a bad day, In-n-Out is 20 times better. I was not enthused about the food. It was nothing special or out of the ordinary and the portions were not very big. Far be it from me to disparage a legendary food spot, but I was very disappointed in this location. I think I just went to the wrong Dick's. I walked here from MoPop and was hopeful given the recommendation I received before boarding a plane to Seattle. What I found most disheartening was you cannot alter how they serve the burger. If you don't like chopped pickles with your burger, well, too bad because that's how it comes. Honey, please. The fries were, at best, limp and lukewarm. And cut wrong. They do them the same as Wendy's - not fries really, more like "potato planks." The burger was in no way memorable. The chocolate shake I ordered was good but, again, not memorable. Apparently, this is the equivalent of In-n-Out in California. Service is great, even though it is self-serve. The workers are courteous and jolly, even at 9:30pm. The decor is also quite soothing. I ordered Dick's Special which includes a patty, lettuce, mayonnaise, and chopped pickles. The bun is a bit too soft and soggy for my liking, and there is not enough lettuce in the burger. But, for the price, it is decent. One burger isn't exactly filling, but I wouldn't want to consume a second burger either. I've never been to a restaurant where you have to pay for your own condiments, although I kinda think that's cool because that's how I'll remember Dick's. 5 cents ain't bad anyway! Overall everything on their menu is pretty cheap and I came to the conclusion that they keep their prices so low since they accept CASH ONLY. I came here because multiple people compared this to In-N-Out. It's nowhere near the same. Their burger is pretty simple, consisting of a bun and a meat patty. You have to pay extra in order to have condiments like onions, ketchup, tartar, or mustard. It's kinda ridiculous because I don't know any other fast food joints that do this, but I guess that's the type of quality you can expect from a place that sells $1.60 burgers. The burger itself was pretty dry and the fries were overcooked. The worst part about this entire experience was how disgusting and unsanitary this place was. There were so many flies flying around the restaurant and their trashcans were so stuffed that they were overfilling and falling onto the ground. A lot of the tables were littered with trash and everything was sticky. It's as if the place hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The worst part was when an employee was throwing out the trash, he lifted the bags over several of the customer's heads as they were eating. I'm from CA and this place is nothing compared to in-n-out. The pickles made the burger taste a bit better than more burgers but not by too much. The service here was also sub-par. No one greeted us at all and the cashier looked so annoyed with me when I was getting my wallet out to pay. It wasn't even busy and it was raining so I had to go through my jacket to get my wallet. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We went in there for the first time and I asked for the deluxe burger with no lettuce. They said they couldn't do that, they're not allowed to customize burgers, I would have to order something else, and refused to add an extra patty to a burger, or make a burger how you like it by any means. Their reason, "to give the fastest service" they only make the burgers the way they are on the menu. What can I say about Dick's that hasn't already been said? Well, it's great that they are predictable. Every time I've ever been in here, they have given me the same great service and the same taste in food. My favorite is getting an old fashioned scoop of Rocky-road ice cream on a cake cone. It's good and creamy and full of mini marshmallows and almonds. The price of these delicious cones are great when you are on a budget or not. The line sometimes gets long when a nearby concert or movie lets out, but the line goes quick. The dining room is large and cozy and they offer plenty of free parking.
